It was another beautiful day in Equestria City. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and its inhabitants could never be more happier. Likewise for me, also known for being very kind to most animals and people that I encounter, happily walked down the street. This time, the people at the animal shelter were doing good so I was free to enjoy this lovely day. Only one problem, nobody was with me and I was pretty much alone to enjoy this rare sunny day.
So I decided to see if Zephyr had any time, but from what I’ve heard, he’s on a road trip with a few of his friends for the weekend. I decided to see if Rainbow Dash was around. But my smile soon dropped as I thought about her. Ever since I’ve started working at the animal shelter, we’ve hardly seen each other. It's not like I want to be selfish. I'm happy for her since her team won the school championship. But with her busy schedule and with me having more responsibilities, we've less time to spend with each other.
‘I hope she’s at her house.’ I thought, doing whatever I could to remain optimistic.
I tried the door and waited for a few minutes until the door finally opened up.
"Oh, hello there Fluttershy," Her mother said with a smile on her face. She quickly stepped aside to let me enter. "I thought you were busy at the animal shelter today. I'm cleaning the house up right so I've been pretty busy myself."
I let out a small laugh at the irony that she was doing something similar to me. She was always doted on too much. "Everything looks nice."
"Thank you. It’s pretty rare to see you around here these day. Ah, but what am I doing? You're probably here to see Rainbow Dash, aren't you?"
"I am. Today was such a beautiful day that I would come here to see if she was available."
"Hmm… Last I checked, she was in the back practicing."
I still smiled even after hearing this dreadful news. It was very common for her to go and practice now. Nevertheless, I thanked her and walked throughout the house until I was at the glass door. I heard no noise and all it did was lower my spirits even further. For a moment I didn’t bother to look at first, but I heard a noise all of a sudden.
My smile came back to me, but when I approached the source, I didn’t move a muscle. In the middle of the space was Rainbow Dash, sweaty and seemed to be catching her breath. I felt my cheeks grew hot as I watched her muscles vibrate and flex with each movement of her legs. With a grunt, she placed the soccer ball back into the goal and let out a small laugh. There was nothing I could do as I gazed at her, unable to move my line of sight away from her. Trinkets of sweat were falling from her body and they reflected in the low light.
Her eyes opened up and finally noticed me. "Oh hey Fluttershy," Her voice filled with happiness. Another thing that has seemed to avoid my notice.
"H-hey Rainbow Dash."
The crimson flush on my face grew more as I looked at her getting off the ground and stretching. She had somehow just finished practicing, but she wasn’t tired at all.
"Is something bothering you? Your face turned red." I felt flustered and tried to find a proper excuse. "Were you running all the way over here?"
"Y-Yes!" I replied as I rushed for a response. "Uh… well, I uh… needed to stay loose. Especially when taking care of the animals like rabbits. You know how Angel likes to move around." I laughed nervously, hoping that she couldn't see my blush deepening in the bright light.
She raised a skeptical eyebrow, but seemed to accept my answer. "So what's up? What did you come here for?" She asked, putting emphasis on the word: what.
"No, nothing like that, it's just such a nice day out and it's been awhile since we got to hang out just one on one, so I thought I’d just waltz all the way over here and see if you wanted to hang out or something."
"Oh. Sure," She stopped for a moment to grab a towel and wipe the sweat off her body. For some unknown reason, I couldn’t keep my eyes away from her as the towel moved all over her skin. I felt like a fire was swarming all over me as I hid my face while watching her. Her skin looked as smooth as butter and her muscles were so toned and well-defined. I was starting to have thoughts, but I quickly snapped out of it, knowing that friends shouldn’t be thinking about each other like that.
"Fluttershy," she called out.
"Hmm?" I replied, albeit still hypnotized as I still looked at her.
“I see your eyes looking at something." she said with a small smirk across her lips.
"Oh... S-sorry," I turned my head away from her out of embarrassment when she pointed that out. My blush grew ever so deeper after looking at her.
She chuckled. "What's the matter? Surprised that girls have muscles?" She raised her arms in a flamboyant pose and flexed them to prove her point. My eyes had widened up as my mouth dropped. Her arms were huge, like mountains were sprouting from her body.
She laughed out loud, turning away to grab the soccer ball off the ground. "Oh Fluttershy, you’re are so easy to play with."
At that moment, I snapped out of my trance when she said that. "I-I am not!" I said assertively as I moved my hands on my hips.
"Oh please," She rolled her eyes. "You always were easy to amuse; there was this one that you got scared by a ringtone."
"That was because we were watching a scary movie. The fact I jumped at that paticular moment was just a coincidence." I said, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Sure it was," She laughed. "Just like during Halloween when I got you so good that you didn't come down from the roof for several hours."
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Oh yeah? That’s rich coming from the same girl who was scared of rollercoasters," I smiled smugly at her.
She seemed to be taken by surprise by my comment. "Wow," She gave me a flat but smug look. "Is it just me or have you gotten more sassier since the last time we've saw each other?"
I gave her a soft giggle, which quickly delved into laughter. She did her best to stay mad, but it got to her and started laughing. We laughed so hard that we could barely breath as we lied on the floor, clenching our stomachs. At last, we started catching our breath and got up on the ground.
Rainbow Dash spoke first. "So, what did you want to do?"
I bit my lip as I started thinking about the things that we could do on such a sunny day. "How about we go to the park? Sit someplace nice, catch up on old times, and maybe get a little ice cream."
"Sounds like a great idea," she exclaimed as she stood up and held her hand out for me. I took it and she helped me up. "Come on, I'll see if anything’s on my schedule and we’ll get to driving." She said, already beginning to climb the steps.
I stopped dead in my tracks. "Driving?" I asked, incredulously.
She stopped and turned her attention to me, raising her eyebrow to me. "Uh… Yeah, I can, I've been able to drive for quite a while now." She turned back and headed the rest of the way up the stairs.
I just stood there with utter disbelief written all over my face, before I shook myself out of my trance and catching up to her. "You have a driver’s license and you didn't tell me?"
"Don’t think about it. It's no big deal." She said. Noticing that her mom was nowhere to be seen, she cupped both her hands together and shouted, "Mom, Fluttershy and I are going to go to the park, can I borrow the car?"
"Sure, just don’t get into any trouble on your way back!" she yelled from somewhere inside the house.
I following her as she got her keys and headed for the front door. "It's the first real taste of freedom I’ve had for quite some time." I threw my arms out for emphasis. She just exasperatedly rolled her eyes at me as we made our way out the door, as she held it open for me to step out as she closed it when we got out. “I can’t believe you never told me about this."
She sighed. "Well, I would have, but I was busy with practice and watching the team. I hardly got any time to talk to you and whenever I did get time off, you were busy and I had other things I needed to catch up on." I kept silent and just sat in my seat. She sat silently as well as she drove. Then Rainbow Dash spoke. "You know, I’m glad you came over Fluttershy. I was getting lonely with you not around," she said as she placed her hand on my shoulder.
I gave her a smile as I laid my hand on top of her shoulder. "Thanks."
Everything was quiet. The silence was only broken from the faint sound of the car starting up. For the moment, I just spent my time stealing away glances of her, drinking up every detail as I looked at her. Though every time I caught myself gazing at her, I immediately turned away from her and scolded myself. We finally made it to the park. Immediately, I got out of the car, pausing for a minute to stretch my limbs, before walking to her side.
"Come on," I just grabbed her hand and lead her towards the center of the park. "So what’ve you been doing recently, Rainbow Dash?" I asked as I gave her a glance.
"Eh, not much really. But one time from what I’ve heard, a couple members of the football team pushed each other and it all ended up being quite a dog fight," she said.
We halted in front of an oak tree and I turned around to see her. "Really?" My stomach started twisting away into knots, having known about how scary that things can get.
"Yup. Definitely one hell of a fight." She wrapped her arm around my shoulder as we sat down behind the tree. "I was gonna try and stop it before I was ambushed by a few people."
"Were they boys or girls?" I asked.
She shook his head. "I didn't get a good look at 'em, but I doubt they were boys. They were too slim, they knew what they were doing and they were prepared for me. Couple of them were pretty fast and agile, pretty rough, and they seemed pretty ticked about losing. If I had to guess, it was probably our rival team. Needless to say, they were pretty salty about the whole thing."
"When they ambushed you, they didn’t hurt you, did they?" I asked as I put my hands on her face, trying to find a scratch or a bruise on it.
She grabbed my hands, halting my movement. "Relax Fluttershy; I made it out of there. They were bowling pins compared to me. They put a massive fight though. I pounded the hell out of a few of them before they fell back." Her hands gently stroked the back of my hands. I felt a cold chill crawl up my spine. Her hands were so rough and yet so soft. Feeling them grip tightly on me just made my stomach knot up even further.
"Well, if it isn’t the loveless losers." I looked over to see a few guys walking closer. I started to feel the anger emit from Rainbow Dash. "Isn’t that sweet? They’re holding hands." The leader said tauntingly.
We looked at our hands and immediately noticed that they were clenched together. Immediately upon seeing this, I let go, turning away to hide my blush. They laughed as I looked away to avoid eye contact. This provoked a growl of anger from Rainbow Dash as she stood up and walked over to him and his friends. Ever since their leader, my ex, dumped me, they've gone from being nice to being the biggest jerks ever to live in the city. He quit being a small-time bully and started bragging about how much money he had, taking every chance he had to humiliating others that he thought were uncool for his amusement and the worst part of it all was that he dumped me because I wasn’t “cute” enough for him anymore.
He was still taller than her by an inch or two, but in terms of build both of them seemed equal. "Piss off you pompous d-nozzle," she growled with her fist completely clenched up, ready to pummel his arrogant smile into oblivion. I gulped, looking back between the two. Before I would have been worried about her and try to stop her, but she's a lot more different and with her being coming more fit, I was more worried she would seriously hurt them.
Their leader and all his cronies laughed. "Or… or what?" He asked through his laughing fit.
Her hands shot out and snagged him by the front of his shirt. He stopped laughing abruptly when she yanked him to eye level. "Or you’re gonna have a taste of my special-deluxe knuckle sandwich that I have been reserving just for you." He got over his shock and shoved her off him.
He dusted himself off and she looked ready to throw the first punch, but I wrapped my arms around her own and pull her back. "Rainbow Dash please." I said. "Let’s just go, they’re not worth the trouble."
Knowing that she didn’t wanna fight in front of me, she reluctantly turned away from them. "Bah ha ha ha, he just got whipped by that twat, ha h-" Before I knew it, she spinned around and made good on her promise by punching him so hard, so quickly that most of his teeth had been knocked out. I didnt get a chance to stop her. He flew back from the impact into his friends, completely out cold. She take a good hard look at the other two with the redness in her eyes.
"When he wakes up, tell that piece of shit that if he ever insults her again, I'll make sure that he’ll receives more than lost teeth. Now leave us alone, unless you wanna be drinking out a straw for the rest of your life," She said as she wiped the blood of her hands. His friends all ran off carrying their leader and soon they were out of sight.
"Rainbow Dash!" I exclaimed.
"What?"
"You can't just knock him out like that. As mean as he was, people will start to get suspicious if you suddenly start beat up boys," I said as I crossed my arms and gave her a pointed glare.
"I doubt it." She simply rolled her eyes. "Like anyone’s gonna lose a cell about it if I suddenly pick a bone with them and besides, I can just say they provoked a fight and I had to get them off your back. That and I've been wanting to beat the piss out of them ever since they been harassing you."
I opened my mouth to retort, but I immediately closed when I realized what she was trying to tell me. But not wanting to let her get away with what she just did, I spoke. "But what if they decide to get revenge? They could kidnap you and do a lot of unimaginable things to you or worse..."
She shook his head. "You worry too much Fluttershy. We’ve been friends for years and you know as well as I do I’m not so easy to take down.”
I sighed, finally admitting defeat, and gave her a smile. "I guess you're right."
With that said, we went back to sitting under that oak tree. I got a napkin and cleaned up her hand. After that, we talked for what felt like hours. About what was on our minds and what we did when we were busy, about anything and everything, we just being in each other’s company. But before I noticed, the sun was slowly starting to dip below the horizon, giving off this golden glow that shined over the field.
Lazily, I turned my head towards her and felt my breath get a hitch. The final rays of the sun reflected off her, surrounding her in a heavenly glow. Every butterfly within my stomach came back quickly as I found myself gazing away at her, only this time I couldn’t turn away from her. She must’ve noticed I was looking at her because she turned to face me.
"Fluttershy, what are you...?"
I didn't answer. I started feeling my body move on its own as I began to lean in and kiss her. She went completely rigid, feeling my lips against her. For me, it felt like gasoline was coursing through my body, making my whole body weak. I had never felt better than any kiss I have ever with anyone that I have ever dated. With a jolt, I suddenly realized what I was doing and broke away from her in shock.
"R-Rainbow Dash. I-I’m so sorry," I said really fast. My face was completely red from the embarrassment that I felt as I had to hide my face. She probably hates me now. "I-I-I am so sorry, I had no idea what came over me! My mind and body just started moving on their own and-” The words ceased as she caught my chin, as she tilted my face and pressed her lips onto mine. This time it was me who went completely rigid. The feeling of relief coursed through me when she kissed me and with her returning the favor, we went back to kissing again.
The kiss was longer than I expected. It felt a little awkward from doing it at first as we suddenly found ourselves in this situation, but it was completely tender, loving, and from every everlasting second that continued, I enjoyed it. Pretty soon, we stopped because we needed to breathe. We painted softly, staring into each other's eyes. We didn’t say a word as we leaned back against the tree with me resting my head on her shoulder.
“You know, a part of me saw this coming,” she said with a sarcastic tone.
I lightly pushed her as I looked away, embarrassed but happy nevertheless. We could go on about what would happen between us later, but for now, we just sat besides one another against the oak being completely happy, because everything about that moment was perfect. Maybe we were meant to be together like this. With a smile on my face, I laid my head on her shoulder and watch the sun slowly go down.
