But one pony strayed and trotted in the snow outside. It was a tiny little yellow filly named Applebloom. She had a winters hat on with stitched on apples along with a scarf that seemed to be to large for her and tended to drag on the ground. In her mouth the a green bow, and attached to that bow was a little red box. She stopped at a house that looked like every other house you see in Ponyville except this one was the house of applebloom's close friend Scootaloo. She merrily pranced up to the door, placing the present on the ground and knocking on the door. The door soon opens standing in its place is the small orange little fully named Scootaloo. "Oh! Hey applebloom! I wasn't expecting you today." scootaloo said with a cheerful inflection. "yeah well I thought I would give you your gift naw instead of after the holiday." applebloom said pushing the small little box to scootaloo "really? You got me something? Your one of the nicest pony in equestria!" scootaloo said looking at the decorative box. "aww, I was nothin' really nothin' that special. Although ah but a lot of work into it" applebloom said. Scootaloo began to motion her into the house "come in, sit down enjoy the nice heat! Ponyville's winters are always bad...". "Ha, got that right!" applebloom chuckled and walked in removing her hat and scarf placing it on a tiny hat rack. The both sit on the couch and scootaloo staring at her newly obtained gift. "go on! Open 'er up!" Applebloom said as if anxious to see what scootaloo thinks of her gift. Scootaloo makes quick work of getting the bow off, she then very anxious throws open the box and pulls out a hoof knitted blanket with the Cutie Mark Crusaders logo on in, it was just the size for a filly like scootaloo. "Whao! You hoof knitted this!?" scootaloo said shocked at the craftsmanship "well ah had some help from applejack but it was mostly me" applebloom said humbly "I mean it's not THAT good I'm not rarity". "are you kidding? This is great! I love it! I was right your the nicest pony in equestria AND the greatest friend ever! I feel bad now I didn't get you anything..."scootaloo said. "oh don't worry bout it! Ah don't mind it's about giving' right?". scootaloo gave applebloom a hug to thank her for the blanket. "Oh! Hey! I forgot! Have you seen rainbow dash lately?" scootaloo asks breaking the hug. "Hmm... Come ta think of it nah I haven't" applebloom replied puzzled as to why, normally she stops by every other day. "Well I gotta find her, I got her a gift and I wanted to give it to her!" scootaloo said while migrating to the drawers underneath the TV. Scootaloo pulls out a box that's a cyan blue like rainbow dash and the bow was 3 colors red, yellow, and blue. "it's a gift for Rainbow dash, I wanted to give it to her earlier but never got the time." scootaloo said staring at the box. "well maybe some of 'er friends can help us find her!" applebloom said optimistic and cheery. "yeah, I bet if we ask around we can find out where she is!" scootaloo concluded. "how about we ask pinkie pie?" scootaloo said knowing that she was the closest nearby. applebloom already wearing her winter cap and long scarf said "well then we Better hop to it then!". The little fillies’ scootaloo and applebloom soon departed. Scootaloo wearing a hat the color of her mane, and a scarf that fit her better the appleblooms did with her. Scootaloo was caring this gift in a bag strapped to her side."so you think pinkie knows where she is?" applebloom said "we're about to find out!" the seemingly instantly seemed to appear at pinkie pie door. Scootaloo and applebloom approached the door but before the could knock the door flew open, standing in its place was Pinkie Pie an energetic pony who loves to party and at times pranking. "oh! Hey girls come in! Come in!" pinkie pie said jittery and bouncing around. The little fillies placed down there hats and scarfs and began to question pinkie. “Hey pinkie have you see-" applebloom began to say but got cut of by pinkie pie " Oh! Do you girls want something? Anything? It's so nice having visitors! Normally with Ponyville's harsh winters no pony comes in!". "uuh... Nothing really we just want to now if you knew where rainbow dash was?" scootaloo asked and preparing for a crazy answer. "Dashie? Hmm, no she always disappears around this time of the year. I haven't the slightest idea why." pinkie pie said slightly disappointed. "aww! We thought you might know. I wanna give her this gift... Well thanks anyway!" scootaloo said placing her hat back on and scarf. As the fillies opened the door pinkie shouted "WAIT! Try going to fluttershy about this, she may know more!" the two fillies looked back and nodded. It was off to fluttershy's cottage. After a chilling walk from sugercube corner to fluttershy's cottage the fillies knock on the door, soon hearing a faint voice from behind it. "hello? Who is it?" the orange filly anxious to get answers said " its scootaloo and applebloom open up!" scootaloo yelled. The doors lock soon clicked and the door opened, the yellow Pegasus standing in its place. "oh dear, what are you two doing out here? It must be 10 degrees!" fluttershy said worryingly and motioning them to come in. "don't worry about us fluttershy we're fine, we need to ask you a question" scootaloo said closing the door. "oh? And what would that be?" she said offering the fillies hot chocolate, which the gladly took. The fillies now sitting on the couch with fluttershy across from them in an other chair. "well we been wonderin' where is rainbow dash?" applebloom said leading into scootaloos thought "we asked pinkie pie but she said that she always disappears on Christmas, what's going on?" scootaloo questioned. Fluttershy's looked changed from happy to an uncomfortable stare at the floorboards. "W-well... Rainbow dash told me not to tell anypo-" fluttershy said before being cut off by scootaloo "please tell us fluttershy! If shes miserable i wanna help!". "yeah we all wanna help 'er out we can't just let'er ruin the holidays for herself!" applebloom added. "oh fine... A long time ago, soon after our cutie marks appeared fall came around. Now normally that means more work for weather ponies, and it did. You see rainbow dash's father was a weather pony, moving clouds and such. So dash saw that and thought I was spectacular then again when your young you idolize one parent. Now rainbow dash's father called a family meeting, for dash's family this is an odd thing, dash knew something was wrong. Her father soon told dash that he well be leaving for a long time, he never said where, why, or how long, and dash was heartbroken that her idol was leaving. Now months after this happened and her father gone dash now being more mature got some heart smashing news her mother was found dead somewhere in the everfree forest, along with her mother also lay her father also dead. This destroyed dash and the day their dead bodies were found was December 25... And now whenever this time comes around she isolates herself in her house, and doesnt come out until the 26th" fluttershy explained with dismay in her voice. "o-oh my god... Poor dashie..." scootaloo said nearly with tears in her eyes. Everyone was silent for a moment until it was broken by scootaloo "fluttershy could you fly me up to rainbow dash's house?" scootaloo said "yeah an me too!" applebloom added. Fluttershy replies with "o-oh, well I'm not the greatest flyer but I suppose I can...".”great! Applebloom get ready we're gonna go cheer up rainbow dash!" the orange filly said triumphantly. after a run to twilights to put a spell on applebloom allowing her to walk on clouds and returning to fluttershy's . "y'all ready?" applebloom said. "yep" "uh huh" fluttershy and scootaloo replied. The yellow Pegasus set off with its little cargo to dash's house. The reached the destination after a few minutes, rainbow dash'a house in the clouds. Scootaloo always pictured it bigger but still nice. The two fillies walked up to the door, fluttershy waiting behind. Applebloom knocked first, no answer. She tried a second and third time, and no answer. So scootaloo called out "hey rainbow dash open up please!" it was quiet for a little bit, the the sound of hooves trotting against wood. Then a click of a lock, then the door opened to a very color drained rainbow dash, she seemed to looks like what she did discorded, but with messer hair. She finally said something after a minute of staring at the fillies. "how did you get up here pipsqueaks?" she said in a slightly monotone voice with a confused inflection. "well fluttershy brought us up, I wanted to give you something but..." scootaloo was interrupted by dash "look kid, I like you and any other day I would let you in but not now..." dash says beginning to close the door scootaloo shoves her hoof in its way. Dash looks down at the tiny filly hoof blocking the door and opens it again. "Look okay I get it you wanna spend time with me but christmas isn't a good time for me..." scootaloo looks at applebloom as applebloom walks back to fluttershy. Rainbow dash was about to close the door again when, scootaloo looking up from dash's gift and says "you need to let go..." dash pauses and opens the door slightly. "What did you say?" she asked. "y-you need to let them go dash..." scootaloo said now stuttering. "your parents. You need to let them go. You can't mourn over them for the rest of your life. You're going to come to a point where you will need to but you can't, you need to do it early on..." dash now with the door all the way open is feeling so many emotions fear, angry, shock, confusion, the list goes on. "h-how do y-you know about my parents?" dash asked who seems to be tearing up. "I just do. And if you will listen to me and let go-" she didn't get to finish before dash pushed here "shut up you know nothing about me and my family!" dash said in anger and tears running down. The faded cyan pony shoved scootaloo cauding her to fall to the ground on her back. Scootaloo looking up, shocked about her idol pushing her so roughly "do you know how hard it is to watch your childhood idol and father fly away only to be seen again in months when he's dead?! You know how terrible It feels that I didn't even get to see him very much and how he didn't even bother to come back home?! Or tell me anything?!" scootaloo on the ground being yelled at by dash, tears starting to roll down her face. "Yes. She does" a voice broke through the air like a rock being thrown at a mirror, it was applebloom "she may not know how all this feels directly but do ya know how it feels to be invisible to yer idol having her barely notice you? Trying yer damned hard ta get her to notice ya? And! Havin' her scream in yer face about yer problems that she just wanted to help with but was denied?" applebloom said courageously at rainbow dash. There was silence. No pony said anything for a good 3 minutes rainbow dash looked down at the orange filly that was scared and shivering from fright. Rainbow dash finally breaks the silence "a-am that bad of a mentor?" rainbow dash said while backing away from scootaloo her voice cracking. Rainbow dash soon laid down on the clouds and weeped softly scootaloo finally back on her hooves trotted over to dash. Scootaloo was standing in front of dash with the cyan blue box smiling softly at dash. "open it dash" scootaloo calmly said. Rainbow dash sniffling slowly removed the ribbon and slowly opened the box. there Was a hoof drawn picture, seemed to be done in crayon. Is was a picture of rainbow dash and scootaloo flying though the clouds together. Rainbow dash's hooves began to shake and tears run down faster with a soft smile on her face. "look in there again" scootaloo added. Inside was a locket in the shape of a cloud and the two pictures inside of it was scootaloo and dash. "that locket wasn't cheap either... I had to sell my scooter for it..." scootaloo said with a slightly sad inflection. "s-sell your scooter? For me?" dash said stumbling on her words. "Yeah, it was hard to parts with that thing but, it's about giving right?" scootaloo said. Even applebloom was shocked scootaloo would rather die than lose that scooter. Rainbow dash stood up her legs wobbly "scootaloo... This is the greatest gift I've ever gotten..." she said still sniffling. Scootaloo began to blush from rainbow's comments "oh come on its not that great..." scootaloo said humbly.”ha. Yeah sure it isn't pipsqueak". Dash said with sarcasm. At this point the colors seemed to rush back to rainbow dash. "Well it’s still Christmas eve, and I owe you something scoots. So how about we check out the scooters and skateboard shop? That got some good scooters there, I'm sure you'll find one that you like." rainbow dash said cheerfully. "Ya mean it dashie?!" scootaloo said jumping up and down. "Course I do pipsqueak! Let's go!" rainbow dash said as she jumped off the cloud with scootaloo on her back and fluttershy following with applebloom. "that was really brave what you said back there applebloom..." fluttershy said, "oh it was no problem, she's a great filly and she's got a great idol, I'd fight for her even If it meant I could die trying!" applebloom said dramatically. Fluttershy just smiled and continued to fly home. THE END
