Chapters I woke up and immediately found myself overcome with dizziness. What happened? Where am I? I rubbed my head as it continued to throb uncontrollably, I tried to think about what happened to me while I sat up in the... corpses? I was sitting in a pile of corpses. Why are there dead ponies here?
Getting to my hooves, the world spun around, as more questions flooded into my head. What made me mad the most is that I didn't have the answer to any of them. That's when I caust sight of my wings, they had been chewed down to mere nubs and I had to touch them. It didn't hurt. My wings had been chewed off, but it didn't hurt, in the slightest to touch them. I staggered over to the dresser by the door, its mirror had been broken and blood stained the wood below it.
I looked terrible. My mane was matted with blood and what I hoped was just mud. I looked as if I hadn't eaten in days. I hadn't I could tell by the way my stomach begged for me to feed it. I reached up toward the mirror and saw a rusted knife tird to my leg with some type of crude green and red tape. I sighed and looked back at the corpses on the ground. I swore that I saw the small colt move, but the feeling passed and I stumbled into the next room keeping my hoof on the wall so I wouldn't fall over.
It was a living room. The thing that I noticed right away were the large red letters on the door that read 'Please Dumbass Dont open This door' the r trialed off toward the handle and another corpse laid off to the side of the door. I tried to ignore the obvious sign and sat down on the couch, realizing my mistake, once my body absolutely refused to get back up. On the taable in front of me was a toolbox. I opened it, then smiled as I realized it was mine.
Inside were plenty of tools most were screwdrivers, others I couldn't quite figure out what their purpose would've been. At the bottom was a neatly kept diary, that reflected the quality of the tools. This had to be mine too. And probably could answer a great deal of my questions.
Week 22 Today I saw a cute mare down at the new shop that opened last week, I didn't quite catch her name. I was to bust being a idiot and trying to impress her that I barely caught it. I think it's Salsa... oh, I forget the second part. All I know is she's purple has pink eyes red hair. a slender build and ohhhh, I wanted her. Dip! Her name is Salsa Dip and she will be mine.
I looked down at the blade on my leg and I smiled, I remembered how it had gotten there. She gave it to me for protection. And I had left her for dead. I felt a lump in my throat as I fought back the urge to cry. Did I really... leave her? No. I wouldn't. Would I?
Week 27 What the buck's going on? I show up for work and my boss is dying on the job. He complains about me sleeping while operating heavy machinery and goes and dies on the job. who's the one irresponsible now? On the other hand I finally worked up enough courage to ask Salsa Dip to marry me, she laughed at me. I felt crushed, but she thought I was joking and told me she'd think about. Something to do with it only being a week since we started dating. I didn't care best week of my life.
Week 28 The infection is here! in Manehatten of all places, I thought it had been a joke, but it wasn't. I mean ponies eating other ponies is absurd, who'd do such a thing. I'm a vegetarian, I know Salsa isn't but she's never eat a pony I gotta get out of Mane- \
Blood smeared the rest of the pages and I flipped through frantically trying to find the next entry.
Well I'm officially, Fucked. Damn that Twilight. Damn all of Equestria... I miss my Salsa, at least I know she's still living. I got nailed by one of those flying, mutant, Zombie things. at least I won't die alone. I'm pretty sure I'm close enough to her that'll she'll sense me. We need to get to sanctuary, but they keep fucking moving. How do they expect ponies to keep up with them. I'm not leaving these kid, but I'm too weak to fly them, even if I could fly.
That's all? Looking down I saw a large cut, as if some one had tried to cut me open for food but couldn't do it. I felt my heart skip a beat as I looked back into the roof I had woken up in and I saw the colt stand up and turn toward me, with eyes that displayed nothing but primal hunger. And rage.
"Hey? how are you feeling?" I asked standing up and backing away toward the door. out of the corner of my eye I saw the mare who had written those wordson the door slink into a upward position and look at me with the same hungry eyes as the colts, as if she wanted to rip my throat out with its teeth and keep gnawing on me until there was nothing left. I looked back at the colt.
Two? There were Two in the doorway now. I instantly turned and opened the door and a wave of nausea washed over me as the foul smell of rotting flesh, and burning flesh washed over me.I gagged and watched as dozens of beaming yellow eyes fell upon me. Flies flooded into the living room and I fumbled to grab my toolbox and disappear into the hall most opposite the walking corpses.
Jumping into a room I blocked the door and saw something odd in the window... sunlight.
Why is seeing the sun so different?
I didn't have time to fully take in it's beauty, they had found me and the wooden door started to dissolve. The green and black liquid quickly made a pony sized hole in the door and I froze as the first lithe and decade pony fell through the door giving a gut wrenching moan. I wanted to cry. I didn't want to kill it it, but I had no choice. I quickly turned and threw out my hind legs as far as they could go, reopening the cut on my chest, but killing that thing in the process."
"Hey, we got a live one in here guys!"
I turned to the window shocked. It was a pegasus. grey coat and red mane seemed to be a becon of hope.
"Kill it." I heard another voice call from below.
Wait. What? I looked at him as he pulled out a rifle and aimed it at me. I looked back at the door, no more were getting in then back at the stallion 'charge me' I saw him mouth the words and froze. 'Do it. Now.' He continued.
I charged toward the window and threw myself onto the pegasus. I heard his gun fire and a bullet cut threw my flank. I started to fall and grabbed onto his hind leg and he brought the but of his rifle down on my damaged wings. I felt my grip slip as every thing started to go black. and everything seemed to slip away.
I gasped as the world came back to me in a flurry of smells and new pains. A small fire was lit next to me as the grey pegasus looked at me in shock.
"Oh, shit you're alive." his voice was calm, but I could tel he had to be terrified.l
I nodded. "More or less."
"Less is more like it. you fell from three stories and your back cracked so loudly you woke up the Tuna.
"Woke up the Tuna?" I tried to tilt my head but felt a surge of pain shot through my head. I winced and glared at the pegasus. "Why'd you tell me to jump if you were just gonna try and kill me."
"Have you seen yourself lately? You look no different then those things we fight every fucking every fucking day." We? He sighed and took a pot out of the fire and sat it in front of me. "Go ahead and eat. It ain't much, but you need it a lot more than I do. You're luck we found you" There was that 'we' again.
"Umm, is there somepony else here with you?"
He nodded and pointed behind me. "If you didn't come chargin out of that window, I would've put a bullet righ threw your head. Though Sammy thinks we should do that anyway."
I sniffed at the food but my attention quickly turned to the pegasus. He radiated, not in a bad way, but in a it's super delicious way. I'd never thought to eat another living thing before. But why did he seem so... good looking?
"You alright?" he asked nudging the pot toward me once more. I nodded. "Cause you're starting to look like one of them hybrids to me, that's what Sammy thinks you are any way. You ain't, right?"
I shook my head. "I don't know."
He didn't like that answer. He backed away and gripped his rifle tightly in his hooves. I doubted he could shoot it like that. "What do you mean you don't know? I seen the bite marks on your wings, now are you dead or ain't you."
"I'm not!" I insisted throwing my hooves up in defense. "Even if I was I'm still a vegetarian. I'd never eat meat much less another pony."
He seemed to relax, but I felt my body lurch forward toward him, it wasn't me moving. I felt something rip through my side and I turned back to see the fain blue glow from Sammy's horn. "Get away from that thing, Luke!" He Shouted. I felt another bullet tear through me, I hated Sammy. A lot. I also hated getting shot. It hurt, like hell.

My escape from Manhatten (Prologue)
I held my tool box in my mouth all the tools inside it clean, I'm clean, freshness. I'm kinda a clean freak but I don't mind getting a bit dirty, when it's required. Like today, my first day working for Toolset INC, the highest ranking construction company in Equestria. The only reason that I got in was because my current marefriend, Salsa Dip, used to date Toolset. I was supposed to help with the groundbreaking for the newest clothing store for Photo Finish, but something was holding us up.
I managed to squeeze passed all the other ponies and out into the yard, of what was soon the be Sharp Image; a Shaper image.There was a homeless pony causing quite a problem. He was thrashing about rapidly and most everypony smiled, I was terrified. He screamed at us, "Kill me! Kill me!Kill me!" He sounded pained and nopony was up to granting his request.
"Hey new girl, get that guy out of there." My boss looked at me from his chair, with a look that said 'If you don't your fired.' I went up to him and tried to calm him down he thrashed and his chest thrusted upward. His eyes fell on me and became a deep shade of red, he was crying blood. I backed up and heard my boss whistle, "Get on with it."
I looked back at the homeless pony."Excuse me, Sir, can you please go be crazy somewhere else? This is my first day and I really need this job." He spat out blood onto his chest, then stopped moving, he feel.I put my hoof on his neck, he had no pulse. I looked at my boss and shook my head, he motioned for me to come back and I did. "He just stopped moving I don't-"
"Now he decides to move, about time." I turned back and saw that the pony was back on his hooves."Go help him out of there Sky."
"But, Sir, he had no pulse." The pony started to move slowly at first then broke into a full gallop, he sprinted and tackled my boss off of his chair. He tore into his neck with one swift bite. Looking at me he got to his hooves again, I backed up, then ran. I didn't see it but I knew, he was right behind me. I felt him, heard his hooves pounding the ground behind me. The other workers did nothing to help, just stood laughing. They must've thought thus was some hilarious side show.
I looked over my shoulder at the pony following me. It's eyes, void of all sanity as if it wanted to rip my wings off. I jumped into a moving cart, he seemed to lose interest in me and jumped on an unsuspecting mare. I slumped down and decided to go back and check on my boss, as I walked back I saw some similar looking ponies chasing others, but none seemed to have interest in me. I arrived back at the empty lot and found my red toolbox. It was special to me because my dad bought it for me when I got my cutiemark, also a red toolbox.
After making sure no one stole any of my tools, I noticed the yard was, empty. When I left there had to be at least fifty plus ponies, now only a bloodstained pavement. I heard a low screeching sound and walked around to the other side of some support beams. I saw My boss, pinned under a fallen beam, he had the same look in his eyes that the other pony did.Even though he had blood flowing out his mouth. I grabbed a hammer out my toolbox and hit him in the face, he did nothing, gave no visible reaction, lucky for me he was pinned under that beam.
I wanted to test his pulse but Screaming, caught my attention, Ponies where dying all around me. I decided it was time for me to leave. I needed to find Salsa Dip, my marefriend, we need to get they hay out of here. I turned and ran for the Salsa bowl, her business place. While I ran ponies tried to chase me but lost interest when a slower pony would run by. I stopped, tired, I was never used to running long distances, or running at all. I never ran for anything before.
I reached the Salsa bowl by mid day and found the door locked. I looked inside but only saw a lone figure laying on the ground, it wasn't moving. I shoved my hoof through the window beside the door then unlocked it. I locked the door back as I came in, I checked the pony on the floor, it wasn't Salsa. I sighed, relieved. "Salsa, are you in here?!" Dishes crashed to the floor in the back and I prepared to defend myself, holding my hammer tightly in my mouth.
"Sky!" I was tackled to the ground and felt a pair of lips press against mine. My good wing flapped open and I stared into Salsa's, eyes. the hammer was in the way, but I doubted, she cared She was a purple mare with red hair. She broke the kiss and grabbed onto my hoof, "we need to get out of here, Sky."
"I know, that's why I'm here, to get you so we can leave." She pulled me into the back of her shop and pressed my leg onto a counter. She took out a fat kitchen knife and tapped it to my hoof. "What the hay is this for Salsa?"
"Protection. Didn't you see those crazy ponies out there?" She pointed out the door,"That pony out there tried to bite me, he pushed himself onto this knife." She held up her hoof showing me the poorly taped knife on her hoof.
I tilted my head, "So you want me to wear a knife to?"
"Precisely, If you wear one we could watch each other's flanks." she taped the knife to my hoof tighter than it needed to be, but it was necessary.
"Come on Salsa, lets get the buck out of here." I peaked back out into the restaurant, empty, good. I grabbed Salsa's hoof and made my way outside, I didn't see anypony but I heard screams and shouts, that told me that the danger was still out here. With Salsa carrying my toolbox, all I had to do was make sure that nothing got the jump on us. We started o head down a street that was littered with papers and abandoned carts.
As we came to the end a little colt came running by two ponies chased after it screaming with blood pouring from their mouths, there was nothing we could do. another pony came galloping toward us and Salsa , accidentally, dropped my toolbox. I stopped to pick it up while she jammed her hoof into the ponies eye.
"Care more about that toolbox then your marefriend, Sky?"
"No! It's just, very special to me. My dad got it for me when I got my cutie mark." A pony came running at, then another, one more. A whole lot of them came charging for us they came from nowhere. I pushed Salsa into a nearby alley and jumped in th air waving my hooves.They came at me and I ran, I was hopping to distract them but some went down the alley. There was a scream, only thing I could do was hope it wasn't her.
Tears started to fall off my face as I continued running. I turned and stared at the ponies running at me."Go away!" The toolbox fell from my mouth and I went to pick it up. When I looked back up I came face to face with the fist of ponies. It's eyes bled out and so did his mouth, the insane look in his eyes scared me the most; like he didn't care about me at all. I quickly brought my hoof up and slashed it's throat but it kept coming I jammed my knife in it's eye, pulled it out, then ran. I had to get out of Manehatten.
I ran into the nearest building and barricaded myself inside. Opening my toolbox, I took out a bandage and used it to clean off my hoof, I hated being bloody now. A sound came from the back and I went to investigate, "Hello?" I peaked into the next room and something pushed my snout into the ground. I tried to stand up but couldn't , I heard a muffled whisper come from behind me.
"Let her up!" a red mare came toward me and the pony behind me lifted me up,"are you trying to get out of Manehatten?"
I nodded,"Yea, I was on my way out of town when I was separated from my marefriend."
"I see. Then how about we let you tag along with us until we clear the outskirts of town." She smiled slyly and placed her hoof in my face," Assuming you need help that is."
I felt my face flush."I guess I could use help some help. Would you mind if we stopped to see if my marefriend made it out ok?"
"She didn't." her hoof left my face and other ponies came into the now dimly lit room. The sun was going down it was around late afternoon I knew nopony would be able to survive the night and by morning, she would be right.
"She ain't dead. Shes smart enough to know how to survive." I smiled and bucked, knowing the pony who held me down was behind me still.
"Oh, what's her name then?" She smiled and her eyes darted over to the stallion I bucked.
"She owns the Salsa bowl, her names Salsa Dip."
"Oh yea, I know her.The only decent place to eat anything."
"I know right it's like everywhere else doesn't even, wait. we're supposed to be leaving."
"Yea, sorry, we should see if Salsa Dip, made it." She smiled and kicked the pony I bucked,"Lets get moving."
She led the way out the back door I followed along close behind her, behind me an unknown number of colts. Several ponies were still running in the streets but I never saw one the even remotely resembled Salsa, we looked down several streets, even the one I lost her on, but never saw her. Dead or Alive.
"Okay I'm not seeing her and it's getting a little to scary to stay so lets go ahead and leave," I said with much regret.
Salsa's POV
Dead bodies were everywhere, I was trying frantically to escape. The bodies were like a massive carpet, it made the me feel sick, bile rose up throat, but I held it in. What the hell did I get pushed into? I hear the dead crawling around in the darkness, I can't tell if they're leaving, or headed my way. I started to wonder if I was climbing out or deeper into the bodies, where did they even come from?
Nothing, my hoof connected with nothing, I'm free. I pulled myself out the mass of dead bodies as I did I heard a scream, it sounded nearby, but I wasn't for sure. where did sky go? I hope shes okay. Out the corner of my eye I saw one of those ponies charging at me, I tried to run, but my hooves hurt. It came closer and closer, finally it was at my tail. I Mustered all my strength and bucked it, he didn't care. I was fipped upside down. I feel dizzy, am I dead?
"Come on we need to get out of here." that voice, I've heard it before, sky, is that you? I felt myself get lifted onto her back and she ran away, she came back for me.
I managed,"Thank you.".........Darkness.
Ok this was Salsa she's going to play a major role later on, keep an eye on her.

The reason to keep fighting
"Come on now, you can't just pass out on somepony. Come on wake up we gotta get a move on, we're gonna get got if we stay in here.
My vision came back as a haze of blended colors. I managed to make out Applejack's form, "What's going on? are we dead yet?"
"We ain't gonna die, so long as we both work together."
I turned away from her and saw the door bulging as the zombies pounded on the others side. "tell me when they break in and kill us, I quit again."
I was pulled to my hooves and dragged along a few feet, I was still tied in her rope. "Quit, quittin. The only way where going to make it out this house, is if we both work together now quit your bellyaching and lets get a move on."
"Make me. I'm tired, there's no reason to keep on running from something that's all around us. We're going to die Applejack, if not today then tomorrow, if not then, whose to say we won't die the next day?" I untangled myself from her rope and threw it at her.
She picked it up and turned to the door, it was riddled with hooves now and the sounds of screaming seemed to get louder as I noticed it. The bed rocked steadily as they hammered against it. I was overcome with fear for a moment, the dim light from the holes they made in the door was the only light that came into the room. I was tempted to open the door just so there could be more light inside the darkened room.
"I'm not gonna make you do anything I got other stuff to worry about, so if you would just let me borrow some of your tools I'll pry open-"
"No! These are mine, nopony is allowed to touch them but me." I grabbed my toolbox and held it closely to my chest.
"Then can you open up this window, for me."
"What have you ever done for me, Applejack? I don't owe you anything. Do it yourself." I glared into her eyes, "I don't owe you anything."
She sighed heavily."It won't be long until they break in here, so I guess what got you this far doesn't matter to you anymore." She went over to the boarded window and tried to rip out the tightly-nailed wood. "Not to mention I saved your flank more than once today."
My eye twitched. I opened my toolbox that bloody diary was sitting on top, i moved it and pulled out a hammer, "Move over, I got this." I put the hammer in between the boards and easily pried the first one off. Light shined into the room, then I ripped off the next. As I ripped off the last one Applejack tipped her hat.
"Your still more than welcome to come wit me if your done feelin' the need to quit."
I thought about quitting once more, "what did you mean by, something got me this far?"
She climbed out the window and looked back at me. "Most ponies who didn't have a reason to live died during the first week of this infection. Next came the honest, I may be honest, but the ones with something to drive them, lived. Those ponies are the ones who will always make it, Unless your some type of lying backstabber. You aren't, are you?"
I shook my head, "not that I know of."
"Well that's good, by the way I never caught your name."
"You didn't catch it because, I didn't tell you, my names..Call me Sky, Applejack." She looked behind her and waved goodbye.
"I guess I'll catch you later then Sky." She turned and vanished out of my sight.
The top half of the door fell over and a fat pony fell inside the room. He was nearly dead, again, already, i jammed my knife into his head. turning around I picked up my toolbox then jumped out the window. I didn't call out to her, those things thought we were still inside and I wasn't going to make them think otherwise. I saw Applejack's tail disappear around a corner a few streets down. 'Damn that's a fast pony.'
I started to catch up to her and found her breaking into a store. I followed her inside, checking to make sure that nothing was following, it was good. I saw her collecting food, I knew she knew, I was here but I wanted to see what she was doing. She looked over her shoulder at me but continued what she was doing. Slinging a bag filled with various things over her shoulder she waved for me to follow.
We went through the back door and started our way out of town, I tapped on her shoulder and she snorted."What keeps you moving Applejack?"
She kept moving but looked back at me,"My sister and her friends decided to follow me out of Ponyville, so I got to make sure they get back safely. What about you Sky?"
"I'm not entirely sure what kept me alive, I should be dead according to my diary." I kept walking and pulled out my diary."It says that I'm infected and tried to kill myself, after that it's just a bunch of blood."
A zombie ran across the street in front of us but wasn't concerned about us for some reason, it ran right by us, but didn't even look our way.
"Seems like things our finally going my way Sky. I wonder why that there pony wasn't interested in us?"
We checked the direction the pony ran from and couldn't see anything that it would run from, the other way led out of town. We ran following the fleeing Zombie and he led us to a tall tree for some reason at the last moment it turned at us and jumped at Applejack, she quickly turned and bucked it away. I looked up in the tree and saw a white pony with purple and pink hair hanging onto a branch.
"Sweetie belle's in that tree!" Applejacks urgent tone put me on alert.
"Who's sweetie belle?"
I didn't get and answer Applejack, she went running into the mass of creatures below the tree.'That's suicide.' I didn't want to decide not to die and then end up dying anyway. She jumped onto the back of a zombie then the next, she was hopping over them. I reached into my toolbox and threw my screwdriver at the back of one of their heads. It turned toward me and I smiled. It rushed me and I found myself on the ground, holding onto it's neck, keeping it's mouth away from me.
It's face was revolting magets filled an empty eye socket, blood poured out from his mouth onto my face. I stuck my hind leg under it and kicked it off of me, as it came back I jammed my knife into it's empty eye and twisted it. something landed on my back and clung to my neck, "Run!" At the sound of Applejack's voice, I ran.
"Wait." I stopped and looked back, "I forgot my screwdriver." I saw Applejack still holding onto the tree trunk and the other Zombies turn, staggering toward me. "Applejack grab my screwdriver!"
She looked at me with a shocked expression. "What?"
"My screwdriver, grab it for me."
A zombie grabbed her leg and she bucked it with her other. "I don't think I got time for that Sky."
"What! of course you do, just pick it up when you run by."
"That's not what I-" I ran, not wanting to argue. I turned and looked at the pony clinging on my neck,"where am I running to?"
"I don't know, go that way." She pointed to a small house several Zombies hung outside but their was a light on inside. I quickly made my way over and sat the white filly down she opened he door and headed inside, I turned to face the first of ponies to come at me I easily stabbed the first pony, then had to move away as the next one bit down where I just was. I brought both my hooves down on it's head and smiled as the blood splattered onto my face.
I went for the next one when a screwdriver impaled into the side of it's head. Applejack came up to me and faced the sprinting ponies behind her. "I hope you're ready for some party."
"Actually I was feeling pretty tired, guess I'll have to wait. I hope you got something decent out that store Applejack." I jumped onto the first pony pinning it to the ground as I stabbed the next one with my knife. I brought both my hooves down on the pony I had pinned down, then shifted out of the way of the next one. Applejack's rope coiled around it's neck and I bucked the next one to come at me. As I continued to kill off the ponies with Applejack I wondered, 'Why are we doing this?'

Salsa's POV
" Hey Pinkie Pie what are you doing?" I asked as I walked up to the mare who saved me the night a few weeks back. Her mane was flat and she was sharpening her sickle, while staring at the wall, she was thinking.
"I don't know Dippy, just staring at the wall I guess." she looked back at me and smiled
"Are we going to leave manhatten today, Pinkie? It's been three weeks."
She shook her head, "Nope. I still got to make sure that I've killed everything that wants to rip my throat out. Why are you in such a rush any way, Dip?"
I Tapped my hooves nervously and she stared at me honestly wanting to hear my answer "no reason really just tired of sitting around doing nothing, I can't even work on new recipes right now."
She flipped her sickle then stood on her hind legs. Placing her hoof around my neck, I felt her tongue glide over my ear. "is that why you always check the ponies I kill everyday, what are you looking for somepony special?"
"Pinkie you're being weird again."
"Oh, you think that I'm being weird? I'll show you weird, no. I'll show you something more than weird, I'll show you something scary. Who's to say that I even found somepony alive in this city? What's to say that I haven't been alone this whole time." I saw her eyes start to lose what little happiness they contained and start turning red.
"Pinkie Pie, are you feeling alright?"
"I'm fine!" Her sickle found itself buried in the table in front of us. I pushed away from her slightly and smiled, she was scaring me. "How are you doing Dippy I'm sure you're doing just fine, aren't you, aren't you feeling, just fine?" My heart started racing as she pulled her sickle from the table. " Hows about we play little game, Dip." Her eyes went bloodshot and her ears flopped rapidly. She stood on her hind legs towering over me. "you could be the zompony and I could be the zompony hunter."
My blood ran cold, Pinkie was infected, how could I not have noticed? "Pinkie are you feeling okay?" my words didn't reach her, she was too far gone. My flank hit the wall, I was cornered Pinkie wasn't moving, probably trying to fight the infection still. I quickly ran passed her and out the door I ran down the hall, then heard Pinkie's hooves running up behind me.I ran down the stairs that led outside and threw myself into them. Looking back I saw her sickle flying toward me and barely managed to avoided it .
" where are you going Dip!" She suddenly fell and coughed up blood. Her hair puffed back out and she slowly raised her head. I stared at her as she reached for her sickle, " I guess that you know now, huh Salsa?" I nodded. "well I guess you would've found out eventually, I just assumed that I could keep it under control till I got back to Ponyville."
"But, I never saw you get bit before."
