Twilight was walking through Ponyville as she got back from taking a trip to Rainbow Falls. She had been at Rainbow Falls because she liked the area and she doesnt see it often which is why she took a trip there.
As she checked all her luggage she decided to go straight to her castle to see how much mail she had gotten.
As she walked their however she decided to take a bit of a detour and go to Fluttershy's cottage first since she wanted to see her friend.
As she got inside however she walked into the living room to see Angel Bunny eating a salad. Twilight turned to him.
Angel rolled his eyes and pointed to the outside to the back. Twilight looked outside and decided to go their when she went outside she saw Fluttershy in a white karategi. The leg sleeves stopped short above her ankles exposing her feet and was barefoot while practicing Karate.
Twilight had no idea Fluttershy was into the martial arts as she was afraid of everything and was an animal caretaker.
Fluttershy noticed Twilight and turned around to see her. She didnt know how to say.
"Twilight! Hi uh....Nobody told me you were coming over. I thought you hated the woods." Fluttershy said in a soft hesitant voice.
It took a while to speak
"I know. I couldnt wait for you to come back into town. Can I talk to you?" Twilight asked. Fluttershy nodded
"Yeah of coarse we can...um do you want to go inside and talk?" Fluttershy asked but Twilight shook her head.
"No its okay...you seem busy so I wont occupy your time. You suprised me I didn't realize you liked the martial arts...you seem so timid." Twilight said.
"Its Karate and it's a martial art...also I'm not scared of everything that lands on the ground Twilight. Sure I was shy throughout my childhood and shy when I met you the first time but I've gotten past that barrier." Fluttershy said.
Twilight realized that Fluttershy had a point. She knew that Fluttershy had been shy in the past but since then she had grown out of it. She was still suprised that Fluttershy knew Karate and it was still to hard to wrap her head around.
"How long have you been learning Karate?" Twilight asked, Fluttershy thought about the question for a few moments and then spoke.
"A couple of years. I'm pretty good at it now." Fluttershy said
"What belt are you?" Twilight asked and then mentally slapped herself due to sounding so annoying. Fluttershy shrugged.
"Red belt. The highest one attainable. I'm just not wearing it because I didnt want to take it out." Fluttershy said. Twilight nodded. For some reason Twilight wanted to learn it.
"Fluttershy can I admit something to you..." Twilight began to say as she hesitated as she didnt know if she should really tell Fluttershy this.
"Yeah...go right ahead. You can tell me anything." Fluttershy said. Twilight looked away for a few minutes and the looked at Fluttershy and spoke.
"I've always wanted to do Karate...unfortunately I was always a recluse who liked reading....I've read so much about Karate yet...I'm still a bit ignorant on how to practice it. I wish someone could teach me but at the same time I dobt want to travel far away just to go to a class" Twilight admitted.
With that said Twilight turned to leave.
"I can teach you if you want." Fluttershy offered. That stopped Twilight in her tracks.
"You would do that for me? Could you teach me more in the future" Twilight asked. Fluttershy smiled.
"Of coarse I would! Your my friend. I dont mind either. Yes I will teach you more later on. Come we can learn outside." Fluttershy said. Twilight nodded and she followed Fluttershy outside.
Soon Twilight was wearing a karategi and was barefoot with the leg sleeves stopping above her ankles exposing her feet and were kneeling on the mat. Fluttershy had laid out a mat for them to practice on.
Twilight felt unsure about learning but at the same time she wanted to learn so badly.
"First we should learn all the basic blocks. I'll try and show you alot of moves but I wint be able to show you everything. So we will have another lesson in the future. I'll walk you through each one of them. The reason for this is because you should only use karate to defend yourself if you are attacked unless your at a karate tournament. Never use Karate unjustifiably. Never strike somone unless they strike you. Karate isn't about dominating somone or feeling powerful. It's about defending yourself. Karate emphasises defense." Fluttershy said.
Twilight nodded as she listened intently, she was going to make sure to never break that rule.
Twilight and Fluttershy both stood up. Twilight felt nervous as she didnt want to look stupid in front of your friend.
Fluttershy demonstrated the middle level block and the downward block and walked her through them.
"Those two blocks which are middle level and downward blocks are the easiest to do. Their much quicker to use against an attacker that's trying to strike at your legs or below your head." Fluttershy explained.
"Got it." Twilight said. Twilight went to do the two blocks but hesitated because she was nervous.
Fluttershy gave her a reassuring nod to tell her that it was okay. Twilight demonstrated both blocks in succession.
"That was good for your first try but they both need to be done quickly. You dont want to take to long to do them." Fluttershy said.
"Sorry about that." Twilight said. Fluttershy smiled and demonstrated them again as Twilight paid attention.
"See you need to use that perfect speed in delivering them before you are knocked down or hit by your opponent. Try them again." Fluttershy said. Twilight nodded.
Twilight did them one more time and it was a bit better than last time she did it. Twilight repeated the blocks several times.
Fluttershy watched her do the blocks in rapid succession and repeated. She looked over to Fluttershy who just nodded to her.
Twilight repeated the blocks in rapid succession again and just repeated it and repeated it.
"It may not seem like it but blocks are very important. You dont want to get hit so you should repeat these blocks over an Dover again until you remember them enough to use them against and an attacker.
Twilight did just that as Fluttershy watched her intensely. Twilight knew she looked awkward doing this, she knew she could never get to Fluttershy's level.
"Keep doing that Twilight. You must always be on the defensive not the offensive unless the situation calls for it. And never attack in anger but attack because of necessity." Fluttershy instructed.
Twilight repeated the blocks over and over and over, she was pretty happy she was learning these so she could use them to prevent herself from getting hurt to much.
"That's it. Just like that. But remember not to leave any openings. Never hesitate or your attacker will get the best of you." Fluttershy said.
Twilight began to sweat as she demonstrated the block over and over again. She didnt hesitate anymore, she wasnt nervous anymore as she was getting more confident.
Twilight did it a few more times and then stopped and looked up at Fluttershy who gave her a nod of approval.
"Good job Twilight. That was exceptional for your first time doing this. Always remember that those blocks are most important because they are near your ribs. Now I'll teach you two easy kicks that you could use."
"The first is a Karate side kick, in order to do this one you will rotate your body until your side is facing your attacker, once you do that you will pivot on your front leg and causing your foot to pivot 180 degrees and once you do that bring your rear leg forward and until your foot is facing your attacker and then you can thrust it forward." Fluttershy explained.
Twilight scratched her head in confusion as Fluttershy showed her how to do it. Once Fluttershy finished she went back into your standing position.
"I'm sorry...can you show that again?" Twilight asked with a blush as she felt like she didnt get it. Fluttershy smiled.
Of coarse I will. You need to rotate your body and once you do that bring your knee up near your waist so your foot is facing your attacker. Once you do that thrust your foot forward." Fluttershy said.
Fluttershy helped guide Twilight in doing the kick the first time and once she did that she had Twilight kick.
"That's it but you need to put more force into the kick. If you just kick your opponent like you did now it will just be sloppy and ineffective. Put more force into it." Fluttershy explained.
Twilight nodded and did just that. She looked over at Fluttershy who shook her head.
"Your not confident in your kicks. Give it more force. Like this." Fluttershy said.
Fluttershy did the kick along with Twilight. Twilight watched her for a bit and then did what she did. Twilight's one was a bit messed up but Fluttershy was going to fox that.
"When you kick your foot out dont make your leg lean to the side. Have it in a straight position when you kick it out." Fluttershy said.
Twilight nodded and corrected herself. She did the kick with Fluttershy a few more times and then Fluttershy stopped her.
"Okay Twilight that's good for now. Now I'll teach you one more move for today and you can learn more next time." Fluttershy said.
"When do you want to do that?" Twilight asked wiping the sweat off her forehead.
"Anytime you want but I want to teach you often. Dont you want to learn often?" Fluttershy asked. Twilight caught her breath and spoke.
"Yes I do. Tell me what days you can do it." Twilight said. Fluttershy nodded and spoke.
"Now we are going to learn a more simple move. It's easy to carry out, you strike your opponent with a puch. I'll demonstrate and you can do it yourself." Fluttershy explained.
Fluttershy demonstrated by using both hands. And then turned to Twilight.
"That's it! That's all that you really need for that move, just remember to actually put force into it though." Fluttershy explained.
"Okay." Twilight said as she brought up her hands. She then did the punch herself.
"Thats.....okay...but you need to remember to keep your eyes on your target when you do this. Dont keep looking at your limbs. You must try and direct your limbs without using your eyes to look at them." Fluttershy said.
Twilight nodded and then performed the punch repeatedly. Fluttershy simply stood by and watched.
Twilight did the punch with both hands repeatedly and in consistant pattern. Over and over Twilight did this move.
Twilight realized how well she was doing in this lesson it was like she had a real drove for it even when she only had a drive for her studies and royal duties.
"That's it! Keep doing that Twilight!" Flutterhsy stated. Twilight listened to her and did it again and again.
Twilight's face was a bit sweaty from the lesson, she had realized that Fluttershy should become an instructor for this.
Twilight did this a few more times and then stopped.
"Twilight that was excellent. We will do more in the future though because I think you have true passion for this. Is that correct?" She asked. Twilight breathed heavily and smoothed her hair back with her hand.
"Yeah I do. Thank you. I would appreciate more lessions." Twilight said. Fluttershy smiled.
"You got it....I-I hope i wasnt to mean..." Fluttershy said. When Twilight heard this she put her hand on Fluttershy's shoulder.
"You werent mean Fluttershy, you were absolutely perfect. Thanks again. I was very satisfied by this lesson. You should give yourself more credit for being able to teach this. Have you taught other people?" Twilight asked.
"Aw Thanks Twilight! Um...not really....people know that I know about karate but they dont ask me to teach them because they go to schools to learn that." Fluttershy said.
"Your welcome." Twilight said. Twilight and Fluttershy got dressed into their regular clothes and Twilight left Fluttershy's cottage and went back to her castle.
When Twilight got back to her castle she realized that she had a good time and hoped to learn more from Fluttershy in the future.
