Chapters Ponyville High: Friendship 101
It was an exciting day for the girl whose long purple hair with a pink streak danced lightly in the morning breeze. Her eyes were gazing blankly at the huge brick building standing before her. She was a little nervous, because today was her first day of high school. Twilight Sparkle had been personally chosen by Princess Celestia to attend the local high school in Ponyville. The benevolent ruler wanted her young pupil to expand her knowledge and more importantly…to make some friends. The princess felt this particular school would best benefit Twilight, even though there were numerous prestigious schools in Canterlot.
The excited yet nervous girl walked nearer to the front entrance. Along the way she adjusted her dark purple sweater vest with a pink star design at its center. A knee length lavender skirt and simple light brown shoes completed her wardrobe. Twilight came to a halt near the main entrance. A number of thoughts coursed about her mind.
“Excuse me,” she heard a soft voice speak. It belonged to a girl with long pink hair, wearing a yellow sweater and a pink skirt.
Twilight broke out her daze and looked at the girl.
“I didn't mean bother you, but can you move please?”
Twilight grinned nervously and said, “Oh, I'm sorry.” She promptly moved out of the girl's way. Then she asked, “What's your name?”
“Oh…Fluttershy,” the girl whispered as she ran way.
Twilight let out a heavy sigh. “I have a feeling that everyone in this school is going to a bunch of weirdoes,” she said aloud as she entered the building.
Upon entering the school, she was greeted by a loud party horn that had been blown by a girl with wild curly pink hair. She wore a pink striped shirt with blue jeans that were stitched with two blue balloons and one yellow balloon. The gleeful girl
cleared her throat and sang:
Welcome welcome welcome
A fine welcome to you!
Welcome welcome welcome
I say how do you do?
Welcome welcome welcome
I say hip hip hurray!
Welcome welcome welcome
To Ponyville today!
“Hi,” shouted the girl in a high-pitched voice, “My name is Pinkie Pie and welcome to Ponyville High!”
The new student was quite amazed by the shear level of energy Pinkie possessed. “Hello, my name is Twilight Sparkle,” answered Twilight.
She grinned at the new girl and replied, “You silly billy, I already know that!”
“You do?”
“Yeah, the principal told me to come and get you,” answered Pinkie, “Follow me!”
Twilight nodded and followed Pinkie through the hallway. As they made their way through the halls, Twilight saw that Pinkie waved to every student, greeting them with an energetic “Hello or Good morning”.
Twilight looked at Pinkie curiously blinking her purple eyes at her. “How do you know every student?” she asked.
“Because all of them are my friends!” declared Pinkie with huge grin.
As the two arrived outside the principal's office, there was a girl seated in one of the three chairs beside the door. She had rainbow colored hair, and was wearing a cyan blue hoodie with a cloud and rainbow lighting bolt along the front, accompanied by a white shirt underneath. The girl’s look was topped off with blue jeans, and conversing purple sneakers.
“Hey Rainbow Dash.” said Pinkie, “Have you seen the principal around?”
Rainbow Dash shrugged, “No. Why?”
“Well, she told me to bring the new girl to her office and I did.”
Rainbow Dash looked over to Twilight and nodded. “I'm guessing she's the new girl.”
“That’s right, my name is Twilight Sparkle,” she replied.
“That’s cool. My name is Rainbow Dash.”
Before Twilight could say anything, the door to the principal's office swung open and a woman with gray hair and glasses walked out.
“Principal Mayor, did you miss me?” said Rainbow Dash.
“No Miss Dash,” said the principal, giving Rainbow Dash a stern look. “What did you do this time?”
“I just made some toilets explode, nothing major,” remarked Rainbow Dash giving the principal an innocent look.
“I'll deal with you later,” said Principal Mayor giving Rainbow Dash an annoyed glare. She then looked to the new girl and
smiled. “Miss Sparkle here is your schedule for your classes,” stated the principal, handing Twilight the paper containing her schedule.
“Now Miss Pie, could you guide Miss Sparkle around the school for the day?”
“Of course I can!” Gasped an excited Pinkie Pie.
The principal’s eyes returned to the troublesome student. “As for you Miss Dash, in my office, now!”
“Whatever,” said Rainbow Dash apathetically as she followed the principal into her office.
Pinkie grinned at Twilight and then asked, “What do you have first period?”
“Let me see…History,” answered Twilight, “taught by Miss Starlight.”
“I have that one for my first period too!” expressed Pinkie.
“You do?”
Pinkie nodded and said, “Yeah I do. She's in room 104, I can show to the classroom if you want.”
“Thank you Pinkie.”
“No problem! That's what friends are for.”
“Friends?” asked Twilight in a confused tone, “What do you mean?”
“Well, everyone in this school is my friend,” stated Pinkie with a smile, “You know what a friend is…right?”
Twilight shook her head, “I'm sorry, but not really.”
“Well, I just have to be the best and greatest friend you’ll ever have!”
Just as Pinkie said that, the tardy had rung. Each student hurried quickly making their way to their classes before they’d be officially late.
“Have we been talking for that long?” asked Pinkie, “We should hurry to class. Miss. Starlight is really strict about tardiness.”
***
The students had all taken their seats and began gathering their books, notes and writing implements. Miss Starlight stood up from her desk and walked to the head of the classroom. “Good morning class,” addressed a woman with graying blonde hair tied in a tight bun. The teacher was wearing a white blouse with slacks.
“Good morning, Miss Starlight” replied the class in unison.
Twilight and Pinkie came rushing in from the hall. As they entered the classroom, Miss Starlight gave them a strong glare.
“Miss Pie, please tell me you have an actual reason for being late this time?”
The energetic girl grinned nervously. “Well, I was showing the new girl around and I sort of lost track of time,” said Pinkie hanging her head.
She hoped the teacher would go easy on her, especially since she had a valid reason this time.
The teacher shook her head and fought the urge to roll her eyes. “I see. Miss Pie, losing track of time seems to be your excuse for everything. Maybe I should get you a watch…but wait you’d probably just end up losing track of that too. Perhaps it’d be best if I change your seat…then maybe you'll be on time for once.”
“Please don't sit me, by who I think you're going to,” she pleaded with her teacher.
“Pokey Pierce, he also shares the same problem with you. This is your new seat,” announced Miss Starlight.
Pinkie sighed and sat in the desk next to the boy with messy light blue cornflower hair sporting a blue T-shirt with a safety pin design.
“As for you Miss Sparkle, right?” asked the Teacher, making sure she remembered the new student’s name correctly.
Twilight nodded. “Since you’re new, just consider this your warning.”
The student nodded to her teacher again. She didn’t speak, Twilight still felt quite nervous, that and being late didn’t help matters any.
Miss Starlight smiled, looking out at her class. “Now everyone, I want your attention. We have a new student with us today. Her name is Twilight Sparkle. Please make her feel welcome as she joins you in your studies. Now go on dear, say hello,” urged the teacher.
Twilight attempted to smile and lightly waved to the class. “Hello everyone,” she spoke softly.
The class replied with a serious of random greetings, but they all were done in a friendly manner.
Miss Starlight nodded her head. “Okay then. Miss Sparkle, will you please choose a seat? Then we can begin today’s lesson,” stated their teacher.
Twilight smiled and sat in a desk next to a girl with blonde hair, tied in a ponytail. Her fellow student was sporting an orange flannel shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots, and a belt with three red apples.
Once the new student was settled, Miss Starlight said, “Now class let’s get started. I expect everyone but the new girl to know the following questions. Understood?”
“Yes Miss Starlight.” they all said in unison.
“How was Equestria made?” She asked her students.
Twilight's hand was the first in the air. The teacher smiled with intrigue, wondering just what the new girl knew. “Okay Twilight, you’ve got my attention. Now please give us your answer.”
“Equestria was founded by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna's parents - King Solstice, and Queen Eclipse in the year 20,000 B.C.,” answered the new girl.
“And what does B.C stand for?” asked the teacher, addressing the entire class.
Twilight raised her hand again and replied, “Before Celestia.”
Miss Starlight placed a hand on her chin and smiled enthusiastically. “Well look at that, she doesn't even have a textbook,” noted Miss Starlight, feeling quite impressed. “Class, do the review on page 234 on your textbooks.” Before Twilight could raise her hand, “As for you new girl, I don't think you need one.”
“Egghead,” Twilight heard the girl seated next to her speak.
“Excuse me, I am not an Egghead. I just happen to be well read, thank you every much,” declared Twilight.
“That sure is a fancy way there to go and put it. Ah still think you’re an egghead,” replied the girl with the southern accent.
“So tell me then sugar cube, what did Ah do wrong?”
The teacher didn’t appreciate their little exchange, while the other students were trying to concentrate on the review.
“Applejack! Twilight! Be quiet, the others are trying to work!” shouted Miss Starlight.
“Sorry Miss Starlight,” responded the new girl. She turned back to her classmate. “What you did wrong was call me Egghead. My name is Twilight,” she snapped.
The girl simply crossed her arms. “Fair enough sugar cube. My name is Applejack. But just what kind of a name is Twilight?” asked Applejack.
“What’s that suppose to mean? What kind of a name is Applejack?” Twilight snapped back.
“A better name then Twilight,” mumbled Applejack.
“Girls!” shouted Miss Starlight, “Quiet!”
“Sorry Miss Starlight.” the two replied together.
Not wanting to get in trouble the two went back to what they were doing. Before the new student knew it, the bell sounded ending history class. Twilight quickly got out of the classroom as fast as she could. As she made her way down the hall, she bumped into a girl with curly violet hair. The pretty girl was wearing a white dress with three blue diamonds along the right side of the skirt.
“Oh, I'm so sorry,” said Twilight. She went to help the student with her dropped books, which had scattered on the floor.
“Don't worry dear, its fine,” she replied in a calm voice.
“Are you sure?” said Twilight handing the books to the girl.
“Getting mad over the little things is just foolish,” she responded, “Even if there are some people who get on my nerves.”
“Okay then.”
“What's your name?” asked the girl taking the last of the books from Twilight's hands.
“It’s Twilight.”
“I’m Rarity,” replied the pretty girl, “So you're the new student I've been hearing about.”
“What?”
“News here travels fast in this school,” stated Rarity. She giggled softly as she added, “Especially if you know Pinkie. ”
“I see,” uttered Twilight in a half-hearted tone.
“Is everything all right darling?” asked Rarity.
The new student shook her head and forced a smile. “Yeah I’m fine. Now where is room 109?”
“Over there,” said Rarity pointing to door across from the bathrooms.
“Thank you.”
“No problem,” replied the lovely student.
She stood there holding her books as she watched Twilight make her way to her next class. Rarity wondered if their paths would cross again. Given the nature of Ponyville High, she had a feeling that they would indeed meet again.

Chapter 2: Family Consumer Arts
Twilight ran as fast as she could to her next class. She didn’t want to be late again.
“This is my new school, I want to at least make a good impression.” thought Twilight as she ran past several students causally walking.
She was soon brought back to reality when she bumped into a girl with pale blue cornflower hair sporting a blue button down shirt with crescent moon and a magic wand design on it.
“I really need to pay attention more.” thought Twilight as she went to help the girl up.
“Watch where you’re going.” said the girl.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.” said Twilight as she went to help the girl, “Do you need any help?”
“I really, really need to pay attention more.”
“You better be.” said the girl standing up, “And no, Trixie doesn’t need help, especially from the likes of you. Next time I, The Great and Powerful Trixie won't take any mercy on you.”
“What?” said Twilight, confused.
“You heard me!” shouted the girl.
“I just bumped into you.” said Twilight offering a hand to help the girl up, “I didn’t mean to. I swear I didn’t see you at all.”
“Likely story.” said the girl, ignoring Twilight’s offer of help.
“Really, I'm sorry.”
“Well maybe you are or maybe your not. Trixie has no use to deal with the likes of you.”
“Excuse me?”
“Well take this as your warning, don't you ever touch Trixie ever again!” said the girl walking off in a huff, “Or else!”
“Who are you anyways?” asked Twilight.
“The Great and Powerful Trixie!” shouted the girl back.
“It's official, everyone in this school is CRAZY!” said Twilight as she continued on walking to her classroom.
Finally, Twilight reached the classroom door and opened it. She grabbed her schedule and gave a quick glance at it, Home Economics, taught by Bon Bon. As Twilight opened the door she saw the total chaos the classroom was. She slowly entered the room and grabbed a seat. She quickly gave the room a quick glance to see that no teacher was present.
“I guess you're not used to this.” Twilight heard a voice say; she looked over and saw Rainbow Dash.
“Not used to what?” she asked, confused.
“Having a teacher late,” replied Rainbow, “schools in Canterlot probably have teachers that are on time.”
Twilight gave Rainbow a small smile, “You saying that about the teachers is not what I expected you to say.”
“There are a whole lot of things you don't know about me.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Do tell.”
Rainbow Dash shrugged and sat next to Twilight, “If I want to join the Wonderbolts, I should at least have decent grades.”
“The Wonderbolts?” asked Twilight, “the running team that competes in the annual Canterlot games, right? They win every year, right?”
“Yeah,” replied Rainbow, “they run so fast, it’s almost like their flying.”
“I saw them at a show once,” said Twilight, “when I was real little.”
“You did?” shouted Rainbow Dash, “What was it like? Did you get to meet any of them? Did you get any autographs? Tell me!”
“I’m sorry,” said Twilight, “I was little when I saw them, I don’t really remember what happened that day.”
Rainbow Dash smiled, “Maybe I'm wrong about you Twilight.”
“What do you mean?”
“At first I thought you were a complete nerd, now that I talked to you. You seem like a cool person.”
“Thanks,” said Twilight, “I guess.”
“How did it go with the principal?”
“I just got detention, no biggie.”
The door slammed and a woman with curly blue hair with a slight of pink in it, sporting a yellow dress with three wrapped candies on it. She walked to the desk in the room, and gave a smile.
“Sorry I'm late.” said the woman, “My name is Bon Bon and I'll be your teacher. I heard we have a new student, is that right?”
Twilight raised her hand, “That's me.”
“Care to tell about yourself?'
Twilight slowly stood and faced the class full of students, “Hello, my name is Twilight Sparkle.”
“Hello Twilight.” said the class in unison.
“Now class, look over to the person sitting next to you that will be your partner for the rest of the year. Understood?”
“Yes.” said the class.
The classroom door opened and whole class turned what was going on. A girl walked through the door and handed Bon Bon
a piece of paper.
“That couldn't be...is it?” thought Twilight as she saw the girl went to sit down at an empty desk.
“Trixie, it's nice to see that you can join us.” said Bon Bon, “As you can see, we have a new student.”
Trixie turned and looked at Twilight, “You! You're in this class?”
“Surprise.” said Twilight giving a weak smile.
“You know her?” whispered Rainbow Dash.
“Not really,” whispered Twilight, “who is she?”
“Trixie, a total show off.”
“I see, she even talks in the third person.”
“Yeah, it gets annoying after a while.”
“Twilight, Rainbow Dash, is there something that you two would like to tell the class?” said Bon Bon as she saw the two of
them were talking.
“No.” They both said.
“Then pay attention.”
Time flew for some, however for Twilight and Rainbow it didn’t. The lesson was simple, bake a apple pie, sounded simple but ended it up impossible.
“Rainbow Dash!” shouted Twilight as she waved her hand in front of Rainbow’s face, trying to get her attention.
“Rainbow Dash!” she shouted louder.
“What?” said Rainbow Dash.
“The pie, it’s still in the oven.”
Rainbow Dash went over and opened the oven door to get the pie. As she got it out, something however seemed to go wrong. The pie was burnt.
“It’s all burnt!” gasped Twilight.
“Oops,” said Rainbow, “My bad.”
“How do you burn apple pie?”
Rainbow Dash shrugged, “I’m not the greatest baker in the world.”
“I can see that.” mumbled Twilight.
Rainbow Dash must have heard Twilight’s mumble because when she said, Rainbow Dash glared at her, “Not everyone can be perfect like you.”
“I didn’t say—“
“You didn’t have to.” interrupted Rainbow Dash.
“Look I’m sorry. What could have been so important to get your attention to let the pie burn?” asked Twilight.
“I’m not telling you.” said Rainbow Dash as she crossed her arms.
“Why not?”
“You’ll laugh.”
“Try me.”
“You really want to know?” asked Rainbow Dash.
“Come on, tell me.”
“Front row,” said Rainbow Dash as she pointed to a boy sitting in the front row of the room with spiky dark blue hair sporting a blue sweatshirt.
Twilight turned over to Rainbow Dash and smiled, “And who’s that?”
“Sorain, co-captain of the cross country team.” said Rainbow Dash as she continued to look at him, she sighed, “Don’t tell anyone.”
“That you have a crush?” asked Twilight, “What’s wrong with that?”
“He already has a girlfriend.” sighed Rainbow Dash.
“Who’s that?”
“Spitfire,” said Rainbow Dash with a slight tone of disgust in her voice, “Captain of the cross country team.”
Twilight looked over and tried to scrap the pie off from its container and threw it away. She let out a big sigh and sat back down.
“I guess we need to remake this thing.” Said Rainbow Dash as she examined the brunt pie left on the container.
“Maybe I should make the pie this time.”
“I would of never of guessed.” said Rainbow Dash sarcastically as she crossed her arms.
“Huh?”
“Sarcasm is a foreign language to you, isn’t it?”
Twilight gave a sheepish smile, “Heh, yeah.”

Chapter 3: Lunch Time with Pinkie and Friends
Third period seemed to go by pretty fast. Thankfully nothing crazy seemed to happen. It was just plain old math class. If there was a crazy place to be however, it was the cafeteria. Loud voices filled the room. It would be nearly impossible to hear yourself think.
The new girl was placing her food on her lunch tray. Then she heard a voice call, “Twilight, over here!” She looked over and saw Pinkie. Her fellow student was making a gesture for her to join her at one of the numerous cafeteria tables. Twilight picked up her lunch tray and made her way over to Pinkie. There she took a seat beside her. Twilight glanced over and saw another girl with long pink hair, the same one she had met before first period. The shy girl sat there gradually picking away at her lunch.
Twilight turned to Pinkie and asked, “Is the cafeteria always this loud?”
The shy girl looked up from her tray and remarked, “Yes, it is.”
Twilight looked at the girl. She tried to remember if she knew her name. "Her name is Fluttershy, right? I’m pretty sure, it is," thought Twilight.
“Oh Fluttershy, it's not that loud,” declared Pinkie in a less than mild voice.
“Pinkie’s right Fluttershy. I’ve been in louder rooms than this,” Twilight noted.
“I don’t know. It's pretty loud,” Remarked Fluttershy in a soft voice.
She half wanted to place her hands over her ears. The garbled sound of all the students talking at once seemed to assault her ears making her head hurt.
“So Twilight, how is your first day of school going?” asked Pinkie still brimming with excitement.
“It's been interesting so far,” she replied.
“Really how so?”
“Well for one thing, I learned that Rainbow Dash is a horrible baker,” Twilight noted, recalling second period.
“Well duh, everyone knows that,” remarked Pinkie.
“And I also learned that she has a crush on somebody,” said Twilight. She gasped and covered her mouth after realizing what she had just said. “Why did I say that?”
“What? You man that Rainbow has a crush on Soarin?” asked Pinkie. “If that’s the case, I already knew that.”
“Um, pretty much everyone in the school knows that,” added Fluttershy, “Oh I shouldn't have said that.”
“Why its not like anybody can hear you.” said Pinkie, “You worry to much.”
“She’s right,” added Twilight, ”I can barely hear myself think.”
“Rumors aren't nice to speared around,” remarked Fluttershy making a valid point.
“It isn't a rumor if it's true,” stated Twilight.
“If what's true?” said a voice behind the new student.
Twilight turned and looked behind her. There she saw Rainbow Dash standing with a lunch tray.
“Nothing,” Twilight remarked sheepishly hoping the noise of the room had swallowed her previous remark, before Rainbow had come within earshot.
“What are you guys talking about?” asked Rainbow Dash as she sat in the empty seat next to Pinkie.
“Uh…just stuff,” answered Twilight feeling a nervous sweat form on her forehead.
“What kind of stuff?” Rainbow inquired.
“Crushes,” blurted out Twilight.
“Oh,” uttered Rainbow. She grinned deviously and then added, “Did you know that Pinkie has a crush on Pokey Pierce?”
Pinkie growled in frustration and waved her hands in the air. “Why does everyone say that?” she asked sounding quite annoyed. Pinkie crossed her arms and remarked, “I do not have a crush on Pokey Pierce! End of story!”
“Well then, if you don't mind telling us. Who do you have a crush on?” asked Fluttershy.
''Is it Applejack's cousin?” asked Rainbow, “Braeburn or whatever his name is?”
“How would you get that?” gasped Pinkie.
“Well ever since he transferred here from Appaloosa, you've been asking AJ questions about him,” explained Rainbow Dash.
She continued to grin at Pinkie. “Am I wrong?”
Pinkie crossed her arms and pouted. She let out an annoyed sigh and finally asserted, “I don't have a crush on anyone and that's final!”
“Fine, whatever.” said Rainbow Dash nonchalantly.
Pinkie promptly ignored Rainbow’s remarks and turned to her new friend. “Twilight, you got a little something on your face,” said Pinkie pointing at her right cheek. “You might want to wipe if off.”
Twilight was about to check her right cheek and reply, when someone threw something at her. She put her hands on her face and discovered that someone had lobbed a blob of mashed potatoes at her.
“Opps,” said a callous voice, “Trixie's bad.”
“Why did you do that?” questioned Twilight, wiping the food off her face with a napkin. Shaking her head in dismay, she said, “I didn't do anything to you.”
The other student huffed at Twilight. “Didn’t you? You deliberately ran into Trixie! And I told you, Trixie would get you back!” She declared.
Twilight blinking in confusion. “No, you said that if I did anything else to you, that you wouldn’t show me any mercy. You also said that was my warning,” recalled Twilight.
Trixie sneered at her, and still felt quite displeased with their prior meeting. “Trixie is well aware of what she said, however…
Trixie wanted her revenge!” She shouted, her voice being mildly muffled by the ambient chatter of the other students.
A stern expression crossed Rainbow’s face. She turned to look at Trixie and asked, “You do realize what this means…right?”
“Means what?” replied Trixie.
Rainbow Dash grabbed her tray and flung the contents at Trixie. Then at the top of her lungs she shouted, “FOOD FIGHT!”
Immediately following that dreadful phrase, the other students in the cafeteria momentarily quieted. They picked up various food items from their trays or their entire trays. Then in moments food had begun flying everywhere. The cafeteria was now a war zone of consumable mayhem. Twilight looked around to see where everyone was. Rainbow and Pinkie were throwing food at people, while Fluttershy hid under the lunch table.
“What do I do?” asked a panicked Twilight.
“You’ve never been in a food fight before?” asked Pinkie.
Shaking her head Twilight said, “No, what do I do?”
Rainbow Dash chuckled at her and said, “Simple, you grab food and you throw it at the other students!”
“It's pretty self expiatory!” Remarked Pinkie.
Just as Twilight went to pick up an item from her tray, a loud booming voice echoed, “What is going on here!” The stern quality of the shouted words brought the fight to a grinding halt. The students quickly stopped what they were doing and looked over at the door. To their collective horror they gazed upon the principal.
“You two, stop that at once!” shouted the principal.
Everyone looked over to see where the principal was pointing. Underneath one of the lunch tables, they saw a girl with blond hair wearing a gray shirt kissing a boy with orange hair sporting a red button down shirt.
“Big Macintosh!” roared Applejack as she ran to the table. “What in tarnation are you and Derpy doing?”
Big Macintosh looked up at Applejack and blushed nervously. “Sorry sis,” he muttered.
“Is he your boyfriend or something?” asked Twilight.
Applejack turned to look at Twilight. “Excuse me?” she asked sharply glaring at the new student. “What did ya say?”
Twilight swallowed nervously and repeated, “Is he your boyfriend? Is that why you're mad and jealous?”
The angry blond girl facepalmed and said, “What? Naw, he's my brother.”
“Oh.” Twilight hunkered down, wishing she hadn’t opened her big mouth. Maybe I am lucky that my brother is in military school, thought Twilight as Applejack gave her a strange look and then walked off.
“I think she's warming up to you,” said Fluttsehy.
“How do you figure?” uttered a confused Twilight.
Fluttershy smiled at Twilight. “Applejack acts like that at first, but when you get to know her, she's really nice.”
All conversations ceased as the principal surveyed the aftermath of the food fight. “Who started this!?” shouted the principal demanding to know. “I want names!”
Silence filled the room. Nobody said or did anything. They just stated blankly at each other remaining quiet.
“Who did this?” shouted the principal even louder. “No one is going anywhere till I get a name or names!”
“It was Trixie,” Rainbow Dash said softly.
“What?!” gasped the principal.
“Trixie started the food fight!” Rainbow said nearly shouting.
“Why would Trixie even start the food fight?” asked Trixie. Then pointing a finger she remarked, “Maybe it was Pinkie Pie.”
“Why would Pinkie start the food fight?” inquired the Principal still giving everyone an annoyed expression.
“Well.”
“Quiet Trixie.” said the principal, “Maybe you can you discuss who started the food fight when you stay after school to clean up this mess.”
“What?” questioned Trixie, “You can't be serious.”
“I am,” said the principal. “Meet me here, after school. And as for the rest of you…clean yourselves up, return your trays and then get back to class…is that clear!?”
No one said a word. They all simply nodded their heads. The principal turned and left the room. The students began cleaning up and placed what remnants of their lunches they could find back on their trays. Then they lined up to return the soiled trays. Twilight was in line with her friends, feeling like she had dodged a major bullet.
“Phew, that was a close call,” she said.
“Tell me about it. That was some quick thinking Rainbow,” noted Fluttershy.
“Yep, that’s me…always cool and collected in the worst of situations,” remarked Rainbow.
“It’s so true,” chimed Pinkie.
“Quite the modest one aren’t you Rainbow,” grinned Twilight.
“Yeah…I…hey!” snapped Rainbow.
“I’m only joking,” replied Twilight.
Rainbow chuckled and rubbed Twilight on the head. “You’re all right you know that.”
Twilight blushed lightly. While friendship was something new to her, she was starting to enjoy the wonderful feelings she got from interacting with the others. Though this happy moment wasn’t to last. Trixie stormed up to Twilight. Her face was smeared and dripping with an assortment of food. At first Twilight thought she was hallucinating, but she actually saw tears in the corners of the girl’s eyes.
She sighed at Twilight and said, “What do you have against Trixie? First you run into her, and now this! All I can say is that…this is war Twilight!”
A horrible feeling coursed through Twilight. She didn’t particularly care for this annoying student, but she couldn’t help feeling bad for her. Especially since in honesty, she wasn’t the true instigator of the food fight. Trixie continued staring at her with a look Twilight found most unsettling. She didn’t want to remain at odds with her. While friendship was new to her, she certainly didn’t want to make enemies, least of all on her first day.
Trixie was returning her tray and was almost ready to leave. Taking a deep breath, Twilight gave the situation some quick thought. Then she said, “Trixie wait!”
The angry girl stopped in her tracks and glanced back at Twilight. “And what do you want with Trixie now? Huh?” she asked still sounding somewhat annoyed.
“Uh…Again I…I’m sorry I ran into you earlier. And…” she began stammering. This sort of thing was still so new to her.
Trixie crossed her arms. The tone in Twilight’s voice had caught her attention. “Go on,” she said.
“It’s not fair that you have to clean this mess up all by yourself…so…uh…why don’t I stay after and give you a hand?” she proposed, not knowing why she even suggested it in the first place.
Trixie’s arms fell to her sides and her mouth dropped open. There was a strong sincerity in Twilight’s voice, unlike any she had heard from her fellow students in a long time. She walked up to Twilight and looked her in the eye. Trixie’s face had slightly softened.
“Do you mean it?” she asked doubtfully.
Twilight smiled at her and replied, “Yes. And I promise I will help you.”
Trixie leaned forward and said, “Do you Pinkie promise?”
Twilight gave her a dumbfounded expression. “What’s a Pinkie promise?”
Pinkie Pie grinned as she walked over to Twilight. “Oh I’ll tell you. It’s something I came up with,” she remarked. “It’s easy. You just say, Cross my heart, and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye.” As she said those words Pinkie made the accompanying gestures: she drew a cross over her heart, mimed flying and then placed her hand over her eye, mimicking sticking a cupcake in it. “You see, that’s a Pinkie promise. Oh and a Pinkie promise is never ever broken…NEVER!” she declared boldly.
Twilight blinked. It sounded quite serious, but she really didn’t want things to remain like this with Trixie. “Okay then, I Pinkie promise. Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye,” recited Twilight. She had also made the appropriate gestures as well.
Trixie smiled for the first time since the two had met. “Trixie will hold you to your Pinkie promise. But don’t think you’re off the hook just yet!” She replied. Trixie then turned and walked away from Twilight and her friends.
Twilight ran the back of her hand along her forehead and sighed. Rainbow Dash looked at Twilight funny. “Why did you do that?” She asked.
“I don’t know. I hated that she was so angry with me. I came to this school to make friends, not enemies,” declared Twilight.
“I think it’s sweet of you,” said Fluttershy. “I’ve never been fond of Trixie either, but you’re right. It’s not fair that she have to clean up this mess by herself.”
“Especially since Rainbow Dash was the one who really started it,” uttered Pinkie carelessly.
Rainbow covered Pinkie’s mouth and said, “Quiet, someone might hear you.” She then began laughing nervously.
“Well I guess I’ll be getting home pretty late after the rest of my classes,” noted Twilight, surveying the disaster area that once was the school cafeteria.
Fluttershy placed a hand on Twilight’s shoulder. “Oh don’t worry about it Twilight. If you like, I could give you a hand…if that’s okay with you.”
“Sure Fluttershy, I’d appreciate the help, and I think Trixie will as well,” replied Twilight. “Oh does this mean you want to be friends?”
“I guess so, if it’s all right with you?” replied the shy girl. Twilight nodded.
Pinkie stepped up and said, “Well if Fluttershy, who just became your friend, is going to help you, then I’d better help you too! After all I said I want to be your all-time best friend.”
“Thanks Pinkie,” replied an increasingly happy Twilight.
Pinkie Pie grinned. Then she looked over at Rainbow Dash who was whistling innocently. “Hey, why don’t you help us too. You are Twilight’s friend right? Besides you’re the one that started this whole mess during lunch,” said Pinkie.
Rainbow Dash let out an exasperated sigh, then she finally replied, “Fine. I guess it’s what a good friend would do. But I was really looking forward to watching the cross-country team train this afternoon.”
Twilight smiled at Rainbow Dash. “Don’t worry, with five of us cleaning up, we’ll get done in no time. You should still be able to watch them practice.”
Rainbow smiled at her and then the four of them returned their lunch trays and went to wash up in the restroom.
