A Story or A legend
Canterlot in the past
In the school for gifted ponies, a certain purple unicorn was reading her favorite books in the royal garden. She had been reading for about an hour or so, and she still was not bored.
“Ok,”said Twilight Sparkle as she turn another page. “Add another potion to the mixture then you.....”
But then, a little bit of light began to reflect onto something shiny. It was something coming from The flower beds. The light beamed into Twilight’s eyes, she tried to cover her eyes with her Hooves to block the light, but to no avail.
“What on Equestria is that light coming from?” Twilight asked, as she remove her hoof from her face. She then Deciding to investigate, she got up on her hooves and walk towards the flower bed and levitate the shiny thing towards her it. Upon seeing what it is, she had a grin on her face like she was opening presents on Hearts Warming Eve.
It was a strange penny. It had a golden aura around it. On the coin it had a print of 4 ponies on it; a Unicorn, a Pegasus, a Earth Pony, and finally a Alicorn.
“Yay! A penny!!!” Twilight squealed. “It’s my lucky day! Better show this to Princess Celestia”
Twilight pick up her books, her pencils, her saddle bags, and finally her stuff toy Smarty pants. But as she began to leave the garden, the wind picked up a little the air turned icy cold, enough to give a shiver down her spine.
”Your destiny will soon be realized little one,” said a ghostly voice which Twilight didn’t hear. ”Soon you and your friends will be the guardians of The Cave of Video Games and then will you become legends like we were once”
Princess Celestia had been checking off the list for quite some time now. It had been an hour or so and she still wasn’t done with it. Just then a loud knock came from her bedroom door.
“Come in,” she said as she put the list and quill down.
The door open to reveal Celestia’s top student. The little filly came into her room putting her bag down onto the floor.
“Twilight Sparkle,” Celestia said with a loving smile on her face. “Is there something you want to tell me little one?”
Twilight searched through her bag to find the coin she had found earlier in the garden.
“Princess Celestia” she asked. “How verse are you in coins?” She went through books, quills, and other bibs and bobs.
“Well I have actually been quite versatile in coins through my years of rule over Equestria. Why do you ask?”
Twilight pulled out the coin with her magic showing it to Celestia. Celestia’s eyes went wide she had recognize that coin which she hadn’t seen in years.
“Where on Equestria did you find it?” She asked with a surprise expression on her face.
“I found it in the garden, It was under a lot of dirt in the flower beds”
Before, Celestia had thought it was all but myths and legends. But here it is, a myth now coming true in front of her eyes. She didn’t know if she should tell her the legend or not. After giving it a quick thought, the princess took a deep breath and began.
“Twilight have you ever heard of The Cave of Video Games?”
“No,” Twilight shook her head. “No i haven’t. What is it?”
Celestia walk towards her bookshelf. She search through the books until she found what she was looking for.
“Let me tell you the story of The Protectors of the Realms, ” She said as she opened the book. Twilight snuggled with Celestia, like she always does for a good story.
“A long time ago before there were Kings, Queens, or any kind of rulers. There were The Protectors of the Realms. It was said that these ponies came together after their village was threatened by a Dragon. They consists of Thunder Lawn the Earth Pony the muscle of the group, Light Feather the Pegasus the wise one, Jumble Weed the Unicorn the brains of the group, and finally Galaxia the Alicorn and the leader of the group.”
“Wow,” Said Twilight. She was invested in the story, like she was with any stories.
“These ponies had discovered a cave below the place where Ponyville was, before I had discovered it years before. According to legend, this cave was built before time even began. This cave had the power to transport ponies into other realms of video and games. So they named it The Cave of Video Games.”
Twilight was more curious then ever this Cave of Video Games. But still she did have one thing on her mind and that was.
“What happened to them?" She asked "And where's the cave?”
“They had vowed to protect those worlds from evil. However, the group had other intentions. For you see Thunder Lawn,
Jumble Weed, and Galaxia wanted to use the power for their benefits. They all believed that they were the ones to be granted full power. They all, except Light Feather, began to turn against each other. And then the war of the protectors began.
“Many took sides. The war tore their village into nothing more than a wasteland. It lasted for many years, it took the lives of many, until Light Feather had to stop her former friends with a potion that turned them into stone for all eternity.”
Twilight was shocked. She couldn’t help but think what would it be like for it to happen to her?
“Does that really happen to ponies when they get too powerful? Does it really make good ponies into bad ones?” She asked in a sad tone.
Celestia noticed Twilight’s eyes filling up with tears. her first thought was to comfort her from the stress she was going through. She wrapped her wings around the little filly and gave Twilight a little hug, before she hummed a gentle song to soothe the little unicorn.
“There, there little one. It will be all right," Celestia said reassuringly "You will never be like them. Do you know why?" She asked, to which Twilight shook her head in response.
“Because those 3 Ponies wanted the power all for themselves and that destroyed their friendship. Its because they believed only one was worthy to have the power for themselves,” Princess Celestia continued “They weren’t acting responsibly. That's why must we always be responsible for every ponies life.”
Still, Twilight Sparkle continues to doubt herself. She doesn't really know what to do. Celestia then picked up another book from the shelf and gave it to Twilight.
“What is this?” Twilight asked, wondering what the book was.
“This is a what I call, a book of special thoughts,” Explained Celestia. “Whenever I get worried about somethings the may or may not occur, I would always write down the places I’ve been, the ponies I’ve met, And I always look into my heart when I get myself into problems.”
With a have of her horn, Celestia gave the book to Twilight. The little unicorn felt a little better.
“Listen Twilight, I’ve been through the exact same thing when I was your age.” The Sun princess said.
Twilight could hardly believe her ears, “You have?” She asked.
“Of course, I used worry about my future and what might happen. Trust me Twilight, I have experienced my worst fears. But that hasn't stop me from being a good leader. Just because you fear in what might happen doesn't mean you need to give up. With great power there must also come great responsibility”
Celestia nuzzled her cheek close to Twilight, affectionately. They both looked at the window, watching the sun shines brightly.
“You think The Cave of Video Games is still around?” Asked Twilight.
“Probably, let just hope it it still exists let's hope there are some ponies that will use it responsibly,” Celestia answered
Years later
Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, AppleJack, Pinkie Pie, and Spike were traveling across Equestria, seeking the Cave of Video Games. Twilight had a theory about where it was.
“So what in Equestria is The Cave of Video Games?” Asked Rainbow dash while pushing through bushes.
“I believe The Cave of Video Games is around here somewhere," Twilight replied while checking on her book. "The battle took place before equestria was even found. so all we got to do is find the cave in around this aria"
"That still doesn't answer my question" Rainbow dash frowned, a bit annoyed not getting her answer.
"Ohh! sorry," Twilight apologized, blushing a bit. "The Cave of Video Games is a gateway to other realms, just like the mirror to the human world. But from the description of the story, it could be gateways to other dimensions"
Pinkie Pie had been looking through rocks and boulder, looking for the cave, but still nothing. She had been looking for hours now.
"Ohh cave where are you?" She asked. "We have been looking for you!!"
"Erm Pinkie," Fluttershy said a bit confused on what Pinkie just said "I don't think caves can talk to us"
"Well you never know when a cave might talk" Pinkie said analysing a rock from the top of her eye.
Spike and Rarity were looking through bushes, looking for this mysterious cave. To most of them, and everyone in Equestria, this Cave of Video Games seems to be nothing more but a legend. But they believed in what Twilight had told them.
"Hay Twilight, can we take a break" Spike asked. "Im getting tired" Said Spike out of breath from the looking.
"my hooves are getting dirty darling..." But before Rarity could finish what she was saying she had accidentally fell through a bush. The others came rushing towards Rarity.
"Rarity. Sugarcube!" exclaimed Applejack. "Are you all... right?" What they saw next was unbelievable! They all stood in a cave with humongous crystals, with very strange statues which were called The Statues of Consoles, and in the center there was a giant circle which seemed to be a meeting area. The others couldn't believe their eyes.
"This must be The Cave of Video Games" Exclaimed Twilight seeing the wonders of the cave.
"This place is AWESOME!!!" Shouted Rainbow dash as she flew for the ceiling.
"We should at least check this place out" Said Spike.
"Not so fast Spike. we don't what might be in here," Said AppleJack. "We should all be careful. Might be full of traps."
"Applejack right. If this place is full of traps then we should split up into groups. Rainbow dash, Pinkie Pie, Spike your with me. Fluttershy, Rarity, you go to Applejack" Twilight Sparkle Said as the group split up.
They all had to admit this place was beautiful. The ceiling above looked like the night sky, twinkling with stars that are like diamonds in the sky. Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow dash, Pinkie Pie, and Spike were looking at the cave paintings on the walls. One of these paintings was of the protectors standing proud. When Twilight look at the painting she had a terrible thought.
"What if I become like them?" She thought to herself. "What if I become like hateful, evil, not caring for anypony, and being a control freak?" she couldn't get that thought out for ages. Even after all these years.
"Hay Twily" Said Pinkie popping in front of her freaking her out a bit. "You ok?"
Twilight quickly took a deep breathe.
"Yeah... Yeah I'm fine"
But then Twilight noticed something strange on the painting. There was a strange circle in front on the painting. Twilight
reaching into her bag, pulled out the coin she had found years ago.
"Hey Twilight, what's that?" asked Spike.
"This is the coin that belonged to the protectors years ago" Twilight explained, before noticing a large slot in the wall "I wonder?" She said while placing the coin inside the slote.
Suddenly, they all felt a small earthquake coming from the ground, which took everypony by surprise.
"What in equestria is happening?" Shouted Applejack .
"Oh my!" exclaimed Fluttershy.
"I don't want to die!" Whined Rarity dramatically.
The whole cave shook as if it's about to be collapse. Rocks began to fall, electricity came out of nowhere, but then it stopped. Sensing the danger has passed, everyone got up from the whole experience. But then a hologram appeared before the Ponies and Dragon at the meeting circle. It showed a Pegasus with white fur, blue mane, velvet eyes and was wearing an armour, with a scar on her cheek and seemed to be in her 90s.
"Greetings chosen ones," She said in a stern tone, and spreading her wings out.
"Ooh! Chosen! You think it will be like the lottery?" Pinkie Pie asked excitedly. Applejack gave Pinkie a weird look.
"Pinkie how on equestria is it like the lottery?" She said.
"I know this might be a shock to you," The Pegasus began. "but all of you now the new protectors of The Cave of Video Games. Ever since my friends turned their backs against each other, the duty has fallen upon me to guard the cave myself. But now, my time as come. My heart will go out shortly, but you must carry out our legacy. You must protect these realms from evil and work together to achieve happiness good luck, and goodbye"
The hologram faded away and then a golden object appeared from the circle. In appearance, the object resembled that of a suitcase.
"What is it, Twilight?" Asked Fluttershy.
"I'm not sure." Twilight replied hesitantly "But if I had to guess, it appears to be some sort of case."She said when another hologram appeared with a title.
"Spider-Man?" Said everypony confused what even was a Spider-Man. But then a giant tornado of energy appeared in front of the main 6.
"It's a TWISTER!!" Shouted Applejack as she and the others tried to hold on to something.
"Everypony Hold on!!" Said Twilight but it was too late Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Rainbow dash, Pinkie pie, Rarity, Applejack, and Spike got sucked in the tornado screaming their heads off as their adventure begins.
