WARNINGS: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH! If you can’t handle that or how the deaths are described, leave now. Also, this is one of the most depressing stories I’ve ever written. So, be prepared. This is a creepypasta, a darkfic, and a sadfic. If you can’t handle it, leave.
“Twilight! No!”, Spike screamed as Twilight was sucked into the vortex that lead to another world.
She had made it with a complex spell in hopes that she could peek in and make contact with somepony on the other side and trade information about their worlds. She had never intended to go into said world, only talk to somepony from her side of the vortex.
But something went wrong, and memories flashed through her mind as she tried to grab the little dragon’s claw.
Spike’s first birthday.
Their first Nightmare Night together.
Telling scary stories with Spike hiding under the covers.
Tucking Spike in bed every night.
Then, she thought of her friends, and the day she met them.
Would she ever see them again?
She hoped so.
She closed her eyes. When she opened them, she was in the other world.
“Everything is... transparent.”, she mumbled.
She could see through every tree, every bush.
She noticed she was near Sweet Apple Acres, and she trotted towards where Applejack’s farm was in her world, hoping it was the same here.
On her way, she passed the Cutie Mark Crusaders clubhouse.
Or, what used to be their clubhouse.
Now it was a pile of rubble.
She went through the rubble and gasped.
Inside the rubble, still wearing their capes, were three skeletons.
Tears stung in her eyes, and she ran towards Sweet Apple Acres.
She had to tell somepony! But, in the back of her mind, there was one nagging thought.
This was where the three fillies had hung out most. This should have been the first place her friends had checked!
Something was wrong.
Of course, I should have known something wasn’t right here, she reprimanded herself.
I mean, I can see through everything around me!
Twilight felt guilty for not noticing before.
Finally, she arrived at Sweet Apple Acres.
Panting, she looked around for anypony.
She sighed in relief as soon as she saw Applejack.
“Applejack! I don’t know how to tell you this, but Applebloom and the other Cutie Mark Crusaders are dead!”, she exclaimed.
“Now what are you so worked up about, sugarcube? Of course they’re dead, we all are!”, her friend exclaimed, not even turning around.
That was when Twilight noticed it.
Applejack was transparent too.
“What happened here?”, whispered Twilight.
Finally, Applejack turned around.
“What the hay are you talkin abo-“ Applejack was cut off when she saw Twilight.
“Twilight! How in Equestria are ya alive again?”, she exclaimed.
“I’m not the Twilight you know.”, explained Twilight.
“I’m from another world. Can you tell me what happened here?”, Twilight asked.
Applejack’s face softened.
“Oh sugarcube.”, she mumbled.
“Of course I’ll tell ya what happened. It was a world war. Every species went to war against one another. The ponies’ main enemies ended up being the griffins and the yaks. But what we didn’t know was that they had changelings on their side too. The changelings snuck into Ponyville, pretending to be Luna and Celestia. They said that they had packages for everypony. We all thought that it was just packages of supplies. Everypony opened theirs except Sweetie Belle. She took hers with her to the clubhouse, saying she didn’t have time to open it, that she had a brilliant idea about how to earn her cutie mark. She said that you had inspired her, and she hoped that she could get her cutie mark from being good at magic. She and the other crusaders were far enough from Ponyville that they didn’t hear the explosions. Half of the ponies in Ponyville survived the blasts. But then, when Sweetie Belle tried a spell, she misfired, accidentally hitting the package. It exploded, but you were there to cast a shield around the three. You had survived your explosion, and you flew to tell Sweetie, who you had hoped hadn’t opened it yet. You got there just in time to see it about to go off, and you cast a spell around the fillies. You sacrificed yourself to save them, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. As the clubhouse exploded, large bits of glass broke through the shield, and each filly was impaled. Then, since the bomb had been set off in a tree, it caught the remaining wood on fire, and the fire spread towards Sweet Apple Acres and Ponyville. What was left of your shield protected the Crusaders’ bodies from being burned, but everypony else was burned, either alive, or dead, because most ponies were too hurt to try to fight the flames. The only ponies who survived the fire were the pegasi, because of their homes being in the sky. But even most of them died from the explosions themselves. I was in Sugarcube corner, the first place to explode because Pinkie Pie thought that the package might have been a present. It was her birthday, after all. The only one out of the element bearers to survive was Rainbow Dash, because she dropped her package while she was flying. Unfortunately, the package landed on Fluttershy’s cottage, and it exploded, instantly killing her and all of the animals. She still takes care of the critters, even in the afterlife. Now ponyville is literally a ghost town. Rainbow visits us sometimes, but she can’t see us like you can.”, Applejack finished.
“That’s the worst story I’ve ever heard!”, Twilight said, tears running down her face.
“We’ve gotten used to being like this.”, Applejack said, gesturing to her see through body.
“Used to it?! How can you be used to it?!”, she screamed.
“Sugarcube, that all happened about sixty years ago. We have all come to peace with it. The only reason that you, Pinkie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and myself have stayed here on this world was for Rainbow Dash. Even though she can’t see us, we still want to be here when she visits. We are all being loyal to the element of loyalty.”, she said.
It was silent for a while before Twilight spoke up.
“What about Spike?”, she asked.
“What happened to him?”, she continued.
“As a dragon, the other dragons forced him to fight on their side. They said they would kill him and everyone else he loved if he didn’t. So, he put on a brave face, and left a week before Ponyville was gone. You had to be held down and your magic temporarily disabled as he left. We don’t know what happened to him after that.” Applejack said, a ghostly tear falling from her face.
Twilight was heartbroken. To her, Spike was her son. It must have taken a lot from the others to not let her go after him, even after he was gone.
As if reading her thoughts, Applejack spoke again.
“You had a tracking spell on you. Everypony was with you at all times, until that day. Rarity was supposed to watch you all day, but she never showed up. We didn’t know it until we were all dead.”, Applejack said.
Twilight said nothing, her head hung low.
“What was the war over?”, she finally asked.
“Land. Every creature wanted all the land to themselves.”
After more silence, Twilight spoke up again.
“The Cutie Mark Crusaders never earned their cutie marks here. In my world they did.”, Twilight said.
“I’m sure they would be mighty pleased to hear that if they were still hear, sugarcube. What were their talents anyway?”, Applejack said, wiping away another ghostly tear.
“They all got the same cutie mark. Their talent is helping others with cutie mark problems.”, Twilight said.
Just then, a portal opened, and Starlight was on the other side, with Celestia and Luna.
“Come on Twilight, grab my hoof!”, shouted Twilight’s student.
Twilight tried, but her hoof went straight through her friends hoof.
