//-------------------------------------------------------// Corey's Reflection -by CoreyJack1123- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Humble Beginnings //-------------------------------------------------------// Humble Beginnings A stallion woke up, feeling dazed. He looked around, and saw he was outside a forest. He couldn’t remember how he got there. He began to scratch his head, when he felt something was off. He turned his attention toward his forearm, or ,at least, foreleg. The stallion couldn’t understand why this felt so off. He tired to remember, but was drawing a blank. He knew he had amnesia, but couldn’t figure out why. He couldn’t remember is own name, could he? He pondered over this for a while, then he remembered something. He remembered that his name was Corey. * * * Corey began to look himself over. He saw that he had a medium build, for a stallion. He also saw that he had a tan coat that resembled sand, and that his mane and tail was a chocolaty brown. His mane style was shaggy, yet was fairly decent. Again, this feel off, yet was also familiar. Like, that he seen something like this before, just not like this. Before he could think this over anymore, he thought he heard someone head towards him. He turned and saw four differently colored horses run towards him, and weirdly two flying towards him. He realized the two flying horses was pegasi, and one of the horses running toward him was a unicorn. Then, he realized that one of the horses was both a pegasus and unicorn. “An alicorn….”, he whispered to himself. Again he didn’t know how he knew that and it was being to drive him mad. “Are you ok?”, the alicorn asked. Corey confirmed that she had a purple coat and a purple mane with a pink stripe running through it. As they all got closer, he could see that all of the horses, no ponies, were female and could make out definite features with clarity. “Hellooo?”, said the blue pegasus, trying to get his attention. “Huh?”, Corey said, in a daze. Suddenly, coming out of deep thought. “Great, he is just like Twilight.” the blue pegasus said, with an annoyed tone. “Hey!”, said the alicorn, whom Corey assumed was Twilight. “What?! You know it’s true!” the blue pegasus countered. The others was about to speak up when Corey butted in, “That isn’t nice to say to someone, uh, Rainbow?” The name seemed right due to her rainbow hair, but again the reason left him. The blue pegasus looked shocked, “How don’t you know who I am? Everypony as heard of me!” This earned an eye roll from most of the others. The pink pony, who was literally all pink, seemed to be in her own world. “Now is not the time Rainbow Dash!”, the white unicorn with the purple, curly mane said. “Well, if he doesn’t know who I am then he probably doesn’t know who the rest of us are!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed. “I mean we saved Equestria countless times now!” “We didn’t do it fer the recognition, Rainbow Dash. We did it ‘cause it’s our home!” exclaimed the orange colored pony. “Um, girls I-”, started the yellow pegasus with a pink mane. “Hey-”, Corey began, but stopped as to not interrupt the yellow pegasus. “EVERYPONY I HAVE A QUESTION!”, yelled the pink pony. Everyone stopped, and Rainbow Dash asked, “What is it Pinkie?” “Whatisyourfavoritecolor? Wouldyoumindhavingapartynow? Ifsowhatdoyouwantthethemeto-” Pinkie said, before being interrupted by Twilight. “Pinkie, you slow down a bit so everypony can understand you better.” “OK!”, Pinkie responded “W-h-a-t-I-s-y-o-u-r-” “Not like that I meant like how I am speaking right now!” “Oops, sorry. What is your favorite color? Would you care to have a party right now?-” “Excuse me, darling.” interjected the white unicorn, “But why is that important, right now?” “Because I want to throw him a party!” “Do you even know his name?!” Rainbow Dash interjected. “Nope!” Pinkie said, seemly unfazed. “Uh, I think she had something to say.” Corey said, pointing toward the yellow pegasus. “Yes, Fluttershy?” asked Twilight. “Um, I was thinking, why hadn’t anypony ask how he is doing? He could be hurt.” Fluttershy answered. The others (except Pinkie) stopped, and began scratching their heads. Why hadn’t they stopped to ask if the stallion was hurt? “Because the author was lazy and didn’t want to do it.”, Pinkie said aloud, startling everypony. “What was that Pinkie?”, Twilight asked, shaking in surprise. “You know what? Nevermind.” Twilight turned to Corey, “Are you hurt?” “No, not as far as I can tell. My name is Corey, by the way.” Corey said, while extending his hoof. Twilight flinched in surprise, he didn’t act most other ponies would. It was refreshing to be treated like a normal pony again, but somewhat off putting. She quickly recovered and shook Corey’s hoof. Twilight sensed something was troubling Corey, which, she reasoned, would explain his odd behavior. Rainbow Dash started to say something, when all of a sudden Corey pulled himself away from Twilight and began to apologize profusely, “I sorry princess, please forgive my rudeness.” “No, that all but confirms it.” Twilight muttered to herself. She looked at Corey with a stern look in her eye, “What’s troubling you, Corey?” Corey took a deep breath, and explained the situation the best he could. “Look, truth be told, I know as little as you all do. What I do know, is that I have amnesia.” Rainbow Dash looked unimpressed, as if she was expecting a bigger reveal or something. She rolled her eyes and said, “How did you get amnesia then?” Corey simply raised his eyebrow. She couldn’t be serious! Does she not know how the condition works? Corey was about to say something, but Twilight beat him to it. “Rainbow Dash! You just can say something like that!”, she growled. Everypony except Rainbow Dash backed up (nopony realized that Pinkie had disappeared), afraid of what was about to go down. Fluttershy was about to interject, when Rainbow accidentally cut her off. “And why not Twilight? It’s a valid question.”, she retorted. Twilight responded, “Because somepony with amnesia can’t remember most things! Not only is it rude, it is counter-productive.” Corey stepped in before the argument could go on any farther. “It’s fine Twilight-” “No it isn’t Corey!”, Twilight exclaimed. “Rainbow Dash shouldn’t act like that to anypony!” “Well-”, Rainbow began. “She doesn’t believe me, and I don’t blame her.” Corey stated. Everypony, including Rainbow Dash, did a double take. “Wait, you agreeing with me?”, Rainbow stated, in a confused manner. “The one who trusts you the least?” “That is what I said, is it not?”, Corey answered flatly. “But why?” Fluttershy asked. “Because if somepony,” the word fumbled around Corey’s mouth. It felt odd… like everything else. “suddenly appears with no recollection of their own past, I would be skeptical as well. I mean, it seems to convenient to me.”, he said, shrugging. Corey suddenly felt the wind get knocked out of him. He wasn’t hurt, but he was very surprised. He saw a big red and blue…tank? He was pretty sure it was a tank, yet every fiber of his being screamed that it couldn’t be. He shouldn’t be able to find a tank here. Corey looked around to see what hit him, and he saw confetti, lots of confetti. He looked over to the others and saw they had there attention directed else where. He followed their gaze toward a very pink pony atop the red and blue…tank. “Pinkie, where did you get that?!”, Rainbow Dash asked, slack-jawed. “Isn’t that the Party Howitzer that belongs to Cheese Sandwich?”, Twilight asked in amazement. “Yeah, Cheese Sandwich let me borrow it!”, Pinkie squealed in delight. “I want to throw a big party for Corey, because of the amnesia and all of that.” “When did you leave to get it?”, Twilight asked. “Never mind, Corey are you ok?” Corey sat there, pondering on how Pinkie had managed to get the Party Howitzer in that short amount of time. He regretted it immediately. His head began to hurt from trying to rationalize the situation. Everypony else, except Pinkie, sat there worried about Corey. His face looked similar to Twilight’s when she had a mental breakdown. It was unnerving. “Um, Corey? A-Are you alright?”, Twilight asked nervously. Ready to bolt if he suddenly snapped. Corey took a deep breath, and seemed to calm down. His eye was slightly twitching, but other that that he seemed fine. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just a slight head-ache.”, he said, rubbing his hoof along his forehead. “I’m just going to lie down for a bit…” And like that, Corey passed out. Author's Note To those who read this when I publish this in October, I was having a Twilight moment. I wasn't how I wanted to be, so I did it again. Now, I like where it is going. I will continue with the story, and I will try to update every week, if not two. Comments and critique is encouraged. //-------------------------------------------------------// Baby Steps: Part 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// Baby Steps: Part 1 When Corey awoke, he saw Pinkie setting up tables and chairs, no scratch that, at least twenty tables and chairs. Complete with table clothes, silverware and decorations. He began to panic, how long had it be since he passed out? He saw the orange mare walk past him and he called to her. “Um, Miss!” The orange mare looked in his direction, and trotted toward him. “Well I’ll be! Ya finally woke up! It took ya long ‘nough!” “How long was I out?” Corey asked, with fear in his voice. “ ‘Bout five minutes, give or take.” she said, realizing how scared Corey was. “Um, most ponies usually wake up ‘round the two minute mark, so it seemed longer that it was…” “How did she get all of that set up in five minutes?” Corey asked, exasperated. The orange mare started to say something, and then froze. Then, it looked like she was going to say something again, and froze yet again. Finally, she said, “Every time I ask myself that question it leaves me with a headache so bad, it feels like a barn fell on top of my head. Better not question it, sugarcube.” The orange mare started to walk away, then stopped suddenly. She quickly turn around and extended her hoof. “I’m sorry ‘bout that, my name is Applejack by the way.” Corey shook Applejack’s hoof. “I’m Corey, nice to meet you.” Corey mentally told himself that would make him look like an idiot. Applejack already knew who he was, but another part of him said if he didn’t do it he would look like an idiot. “Well it doesn’t look like you lost yer manners.” Applejack said. “That’s good.” “Yeah, I guess so.”, he said, “Truth be told, it felt odd, but right. Ugh, I’m rambling on.” “Hey, it’s fine Corey. I personally don’t know much about this amnesia thing, but what I heard from Twi, it is very rare and your to poor sap that has to deal with it.” Corey raised an eyebrow at this. He knew that isn’t what she meant, but he really didn’t know how to interpret that. “Oh darling, you don’t mean that.”, a voice interrupted, “I think you mean he is the only known case, well one that we know about.” Applejack had a look of guilt wash over her. Cripes. Whoever was behind the voice made her feel bad. “I’m sorry. I misspoke.” “No, no. I knew you didn’t mean it in a mean way, I just couldn’t interpret how you meant it.”, Corey answered. “Trust me, I wasn’t expecting much-” Now it was Corey’s turn to have a look of guilt wash over his face. He heard somepony walk toward them, and turned to meet them. It was the white unicorn from earlier, the only one whom’s name Corey didn’t know by this point. He extend his hoof, “I’m Core-” The white unicorn accepted Corey’s hoof and said, “I’m Rarity-” before she quickly cut herself off. After a long moment, she finally spoke up “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt you. I was trying to formally introduce myself. I’m Rarity, by the way.” “I’m Corey, and I understand. I’m nervous anyway, so I would’ve messed up no matter what happened.” “Why are you nervous dear?”, Rarity asked in confusion. “Due to Pinkie setting up those twenty tables in five minutes.” Applejack answered. “Ah.”, Rarity finally said. Nodding her head. “Well that’s Pinkie, once she sets her mind to something, she’ll do it.” “So, do you happen to know what she is doing?” “Well, she is planning your party, dear.” Corey face-hoofed, slightly worrying Applejack and Rarity. He silently murmured “Something tells me I should have known that.” Corey face-hoofed again, “That was one of the questions she asked me. How could I have I forgot that?” “Um, are you alright, sugarcube?”, Applejack asked? “Yeah,” Corey said harshly. However, Applejack and Rarity knew it was aimed at himself, rather that them. “Just catching up that’s all.” “You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself, dearie.”, Rarity said, softly. “I’m sorry.”, Corey said, apologetic. “I mean Pinkie throws parties for ponies knew to Ponyville. I mean, she threw one for Princess Twilight before she was a princess-” Corey suddenly stopped once he realized what he said. He tried to see if he remembered anything else… “COME ON!”, he moaned. “What, what wrong?” Corey heard Twilight ask. “Oh, Corey just remembered that I throw parties for new ponies that comes to Ponyville, and he tried to see if he remembered anything else. He couldn’t.” Pinkie explained. “Seriously, I forget how much Pinkie does stuff like that.” And again, Corey realized what he said. He wanted to scream, but decide that wouldn’t help matters. So he covered his mouth with his hoof and let out a muffled scream. Twilight came over toward Corey, to consul him in this high stress situation. However, he seemed to be calming down. Twilight though it was odd how well Corey was handling it. Most other ponies, including her, would have had a bad mental breakdown. He was having a breakdown, but he seemed to have it under control. “Um, Corey, there are two purposes to this party. One, to have fun and welcome you to Ponyville, and two, to see if anypony recognizes you.”, Twilight stated. “That is an excellent idea Twi!” Applejack exclaimed. “It was Pinkie’s idea, wasn’t it?” Corey asked, curiously. Twilight nodded. Corey sat down. “That determines it.” “That determines, what exactly?” Twilight asked. “I am scared of Pinkie.” Corey answered. “Why?” asked Rarity. “Because she set up twenty tables in five minutes, can predict events before they happen, always knowledgeable about random obscure things, and seem to have a one track mind, but will throw you for a loop in a moment's notice. Who wouldn’t be scared?” “Aw, I’m harmless. I promise!”, Pinkie squeed, suddenly appearing besides Corey. Corey jumped backwards, letting out a slight gasp. Speak Pinkie’s name and she shall appear. “Stuff like that is why I’m scared of you!”, Corey exclaimed. "Well, don't be!" Pinkie said. "It's almost time for your party! We wouldn't want the party comers to feel unwelcome!" Pinkie began hopping toward the tables. It seemed the party was about to begin. Author's Note Sorry, I wanted this chapter to be longer. But I also wanted to upload today as well. This chapter is to get Corey situated in Equestria. So, this will be pretty long. Maybe another chapter or two.
