Dammit Vinyl

Octavia Pov:

"Tavi, can I tell you something?" Vinyl asked from beside me. We decided that we would leave for Ponyville immediately the following morning of my...outburst. We had been on the train for a few minutes after we departed from Canterlot Station when she spoke up.

"What is it, Vi?" I answered her question with my own.

"Is it wrong or weird that I'm very happy that you came to your senses with that place?" She asked.

"What do you mean?"

"Tavi, I've known for awhile now just how...evil that place was. I've wanted you to quit for the longest time since you have been coming home so angry and frustrated. It was starting to get to me with how much you seemed to hate your life." Vinyl admitted. I scooted closer to the alabaster unicorn and cuddled with her.

"Absolutely not. I apologize for worrying you about all that. I could never be happier with my life now that I'm free of that horrid place." I told her as I wrapped my foreleg around her and pulled her closer to me.

"There's more, Tavi." She said a little reserved.

"I don't want you to give up your love for classical music."

"Vinyl, I already destroyed my cello. Plus weren't you all excited to teach me you Dj'ing stuff last night?" I reminded her. She took off her glasses and looked me directly in my eyes.

"I know what I said and I'm still happy to teach you, but you just aren't...well, you without your love for classical." She said seriously.

"When we get settled in at Ponyville, I'm going to get you a new cello." She continued.

"But-" I tried to object, but Vinyl put her hoof to my muzzle, effectively shushing me.

"Tavi, please. You just aren't the same without your love for your cello." She said, her stern red gaze softening to a more pleading look. After a few minutes of looking into her eyes, I let out a defeated sigh.

"Alright fine. I suppose I'll give the cello another try." I relented. Vinyl smiled at me as I gave in to her request.

"I'll try to get you one as good as your old one, but I'll try to make it as different as possible so it hopefully won't remind you of that horrible place." Vinyl told me. I gave her a small smile.

"I'm incredibly lucky to have somepony as caring as you for a best friend." I admitted as I nuzzled her cheek.

"Aww, Tavi! Quit it, you're making me blush." She giggled. I laughed with her. We looked out the window of the train to see our destination of Ponyville in the distance as the train rounded the mountain.

"It certainly lacks the sophistication of Canterlot." I said as I stared down at the image of our new home.

"That's great! Because that means there's no snobs or uptight pricks like there are in Canterlot!" Vinyl said with her cat like grin as she rested her glasses on her forehead.

"I suppose you're correct. Looking back on everything, I'm glad I don't have to hold up to the rich ponies' standards anymore." I said. Leaving Canterlot was the best decision I have ever had in my life. Well, second best decision of my life behind meeting Vinyl.

I'll admit it. I was really impressed with Vinyl. The house she had in Ponyville was beautiful and much better than our apartment in Canterlot. It was much like the library we had passed as it was a huge still alive oak tree that was hollowed out to make it into a cozy house. As we walked inside I was even more impressed with how clean and tidy it was. The interior was wooden like I expected from a literal tree-house. There was a very comfortable and large looking sofa with a Television set and a marble coffee table in the living room. The kitchen was very clean and tidy like the rest of the house with pots and pans hanging from a ceiling holder. The kitchen counter had an impressive amount of space. The kitchen had two stoves and two ovens and a sink. They all looked like they were fairly high in quality. Moving out of the kitchen back to the living room where the staircase was, I went up stairs. I found that Vinyl only had one bedroom and that the bed was rather a large and comfy one. The entire second floor was her bedroom. Her room had vinyl records neatly shelved in their places along one of the walls. The wall to the right of the bed had various instruments hung up along it. There was a white Gibson Les Paul electric guitar, two very nice violins along with their bows, a saxophone, another electric guitar, this one was a cherry red Fender Base, and a very, very, expensive looking acoustic guitar. I heard hoofsteps coming up the stairs as Vinyl approached. I was sat on my haunches taking in the obviously very well cared for instruments when she came into the room.

"I was expecting to find turn tables and stereos everywhere up here." I told her as she sat down next to me.

"Nah, all that stuff's downstairs in the basement, Along with my own recording studio." She informed me.

"Is there a particular instrument you want me to teach you?" She asked as I kept staring at the six well cared for instruments hanging from the purple painted wall.

"Yes, but I'll wait until after we get another cello. I want to keep my promise to you and knowing myself, I'll try to use learning a new instrument as an excuse to not pick the cello back up." I said honestly.

"Whadya mean by 'Pick the cello back up'? You were playing it just yesterday." Vinyl chuckled. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Oh hush you! You know what I meant." I huffed with feigned annoyance.

"Well in any case, I'm proud that you are being mature about this and that you are willing to continue playing the cello." Vinyl said as she grinned at me.

"I did promise and if there is one thing I'm bringing with me from my old life to my new life, it's going to be that I always uphold my promises and that I will never lie, especially to you, Vinyl." I said with determination written all over my expression. Vinyl wrapped her foreleg around me and pulled me close to her.

"That's my Tavi!" She said happily. After a few minutes, Vinyl lets me go from her side hug as she stood up.

"Well, I finished settling everything in so let's go get you a new cello!" She exclaimed happily. I sighed in indignation as I stood up and followed my eccentric friend out of the room and consequentially out of the house.

We had been trotting through town for a good twenty minutes as we searched for a music store. Well, Vinyl wasn't searching as she seemed to already have someplace in mind, and I was looking around the sights of the town I was going to live in from now on. The ponies here were quite interesting to say the least. I saw familiar an excessively pink earth pony mare trotting up to Vinyl and I before she promptly shot up i with a loud gasp and seemed to hover in place for a minute before zooming off to do who knows what.

"Uh, Vinyl? What was that?" I asked before we continued trotting to wherever it was that Vinyl was leading us to.

"Oh Pinkie Pie? I'm surprised you don't remember her. She is Ponyville's resident party pony and tries her best to make everypony she meets happy and is a very friendly mare." Vinyl explained. One part of what she said confused me.

"What do you mean that you're surprised that I don't remember her?" I asked skeptically. Sure she seemed a little familiar but I would've recalled somepony so enthusiastic. Oh. Ooooh.

"She was that mare at the gala, wasn't she?" I said as I facehoofed.

"Yep. Oh look at that, we're here!" She exclaimed. I shifted my gaze from Vinyl to the building in front of us.

"Hoofin's Instruments?" I read out loud.

"Yep! Best music store in Equestria!" She declared before trotting through the double doors. I'll admit it. I was once again impressed. The store had to be enchanted or something as the inside had to be at least ten times larger than the outside. There was such a variety of instruments and other musical items. I stared in awe for a good few moments before Vinyl dragged me over to the wooden section of the store. We started looking over the cellos and bases that lined the area before Vinyl found one that peaked her interest.

"Tavi! Over here!!" She shouted from my right. I trotted towards the sound of her voice and rounded a shelf before I stopped next to her.

"Wow." I muttered. This probably was the best cello I ever seen. It was better manufactured than my previous one. It was very, very, very well made and it had a custom silver paint job. The bow that came with it had silky smooth hairs and was made of mahogany wood and had pearls encrusted along it.

"Vinyl, I'll admit that this cello is a thing a beauty, but there is no way we can afford this." I pointed out. She turned to me and flashed me a mischievous grin. She showed me the price tag and I gaped at it.

"How in the seven blue blazes of hell is this cello only one thousand bits?!? This should at least be ten thousand bits!!" I exclaimed.

"Because of the fact that this store gets a lot of business so the owner doesn't have to make his items ridiculously expensive. Plus he's already stupid rich so he doesn't need to worry about money." Vinyl explained. She picked the cello up and put in case before levitating it along with it's bow.

"Well, let's get this beauty checked out!" She grinned at my still very dumbfound look.

"O-Ok." I whispered in my shock. When we got to the check out, I almost fainted in shock at just who was there.

"Heya, Scratch! Long time no see! Ya stayin in Ponyville again?" The stallion said before his grin broke into a sly one when he spotted me.

"Oh, is this that 'Tavi' you were mentioning in you letters to me?" He asked.

"You betcha!" Vinyl exclaimed. I was still stammering over my shock at the identity of this stallion.

"You, You're-You're..You're..." I stammered. He and Vinyl laughed at my expense.

"Meet Tavi, My best friend since I was six. Tavi, this is my mentor/father figure, Eddie Van Hoofin." She introduced the two us.

"HOW THE HELL DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?!?!" I demanded from Vinyl.

"You never asked." She said simply.

"Wha-! I-,HUH?!" I stammered. The two of them would not stop laughing at me.

"I take it you're a little surprised." He said. It then clicked in my brain. 'Hoofin's Instruments'.

"Nice to meet ya, Octavia!" Eddie said, extending a hoof. I shakily reached my hoof over to his and shook his hoof.

"Holy Shit." I whispered.

"If you're Vi's best friend, there's no need to worry about paying me for that cello. It's yours, free of charge!" He said after he pulled away.

"CAN YOU SIGN IT?!?!?" I screamed before throwing a hoof in front of muzzle. Vinyl snickered at my outburst.

"Of course! Anything for a friend. Anypony who's a friend of Vi's can consider themselves a friend of mine, as well!" He said cheerily.

"Well, Ed. I'd love to stay and play catch-up with you, but I better get Tavi home before she faints." Vinyl teased after putting the cello back in it's case.

"Alright Vi! See ya 'round!" The old stallion said. I was still as statue for another ten minutes as Vinyl dragged me by the tail out of the store. I remained like that until we got home and Vinyl splashed me with cold water.

"GAH!" I gasped.

"Vinyl! Oh my Celestia! What the fuck!" I screamed. Calm down, I already told you everything and plus, I already magically dried you." She stated. I blinked before looking in the hallway mirror to find that my mane and coat were indeed just as they were before.

"Well I'm going to take the cello downstairs now, I'll treat you to brunch when I'm finished setting it up." Vinyl said before leaving to do just what she said. I finally shook myself out of my shock induced stupor before rubbing my temples.

"Dammit, Vinyl." I said aloud to myself. Vinyl will never cease to amaze me, even after we've known each other for twenty years now. The thing that amazed me most was the fact that it somehow took me twenty years to fall in love with her. What? Don't act like you are shocked that I'm in love with the eccentric mare! I love her to pieces, I just haven't...exactly...admitted it to her yet.

'Maybe I should tell at the brunch she's taking me to today.' I pondered to myself before deciding that that's exactly what I would do.

Vinyl was once again leading me through the streets of Ponyville. We passed by a building that looked like a cupcake.

"That's Sugar Cube Corner, It's where Pinkie Pie lives and works." Vinyl told me when I asked her what the place was. Vinyl steered me clear of the place and directed me towards the other end of town.

"Where are we going, Vinyl?" I asked her.

"The best restaurant in Ponyville." She said simply. After a couple more minutes of trotting, we arrived in front of a rather modest looking building with a sign that read "Veggies N' More". We entered the restaurant and I found that it was a rather charming little rustic restaurant with quite the selection. We took a nice little table for two and waited for a waiter.

"So, what do you think, Tavi?" Vinyl asked.

"I think this place is lovely, I would love to try the food." I answered. I looked through the menu and decided on the hayburger. Vinyl decided on the hayburger too.

After we were half way into the burgers, I decided to tell Vinyl then and there.

"Vinyl?" I said once my mouth was empty.

"Yeah?" She responded.

"I need to tell you something." I said timidly. How will she react? Will she hate me?

"Go for it, Tavi!" She grinned. I took a deep breath and I told her.

"I'm in love with you, Vinyl." I said, closing my eyes. I reopened them and looked at her to see her reaction and saw that she was just staring at me. I bit my lip, terrified of what she would think. To my surprise and joy, she leaned over the table and kissed me on the lips.

"I love you too, Tavi." She said before pulling me back into the kiss. After we parted from the kiss we decided to take the rest of our burgers to go. Vinyl than promptly dragged me back to house for some "fun".

Author's Note

Here we are with Chapter two! I think I got out of my short chapter spell I was hitting lately. I will try my best to make every chapter I release on all of my stories from now on at least over two thousand words.
