The last starship troopers

I felt nothing but the turbulence of the dropship as we descended into a planets atmosphere. My black coated armor was not very heavy, and I would constantly question why we wear this. It offered no protection from our enemies.

Oh I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is damien. I am a soldier in the Terran federation. The branch of military is the mobile infantry. I have a prosthetic robotic left arm, and have seen over sixty battles over the course of a month.

Guess it's true what they say. "we're just meat for the grinder.". Anyway me and my platoon 'the timber wolves' are descending into planet Laban. It's recently been invaded by the arachnid bug army. The vermin just don't know when to give up.

The arachnids differ from species. Though we would normally be fighting a bug warrior. They have four legs with two tendrils on their sides, with massive jaws that could crush you in half. Let's not forget about how strong they are. Just one of them will leave at least four or five troopers dismembered before its found.

I feel a tap on my shoulder. "Damien! You better keep your head in the game or else those hoppers are gonna be separating it from your shoulders!". My lieutenant said to me. Her name was Natasha. She was bulky with grey hair. She had crimson eyes and she always was understanding, or a complete ball buster.

"yes ma'am!". I said. I felt the ship make its landing. I took a quick breath. A red light inside the dropship flickered several times. There were several other soldiers in here. At least nineteen others. All dressed in the same black armor with a useless helmet.

The dropships door opens, and immediately I am hit with the night sky, the rain, and the lights coming from orbs of blue plasma. I rush out of the ship. Everyone else does the same. I look up and see that another dropship is coming down for a landing. It's wide with a bulky square chamber for troopers to stand in.

It didn't get the chance to land. A giant ball of plasma came out of nowhere and hit the ship, causing the ship to explode. The orb of plasma continued it's path to space. I felt some sympathy for the lives in that ship but I had to push that aside or I would join them. I ran and rejoined my platoon. We ran up a hill only to engage a small group of arachnids.

I fired my Marita rifle on a bug that was rushing me. I blew off a tendril and a few of its legs before hitting the nerve stem. Looking over shoulder I could see an old friend. He was pinned down on the ground with a bug standing over him.

My eyes widened as he was instantly ripped to pieces. The bug pulled his arms off with little to no effort, and did the same with his legs. Then it did a few stabs to finish him off. I felt my anger rise, and I raised my gun. I started to fire. The green blood splatters told me I was hitting it.

It made a hissing noise as it started to charge at me. I kept firing my weapon at it, the automatic weapon, against the armored alien. The bug was getting close, and I had to start backing up. It was getting way to close now, and I started to pull the second trigger. The shotgun blast helped kill the bug way faster.

It was almost a few feet away from me. I sighed in relief. Me and the rest of the timber wolves platoon started to advance to clear out the area. That's when the ground started to shake. Cracks in the ground began to shake.

I gulped hoping that it wasn't what I thought it was. I continued to fire my gun. Killing as many bugs as I could. Looking around I could see soldiers everywhere suffering the same fate as my squad mate. Either they were spared from a gore filled death, or they were given no mercy.

The bugs had no exception. Either our machine guns blew them to pieces or they were hit in their nerve stems. While I enjoy blowing off their limbs and jaws, I know that it's best to put them down as fast as possible.

The earth quake began again and from the cracks in the ground emerged a massive bug that was armored from head to the back of its body. It was all black and had green glowing eyes.

I barely had time to react when it spewed a corrosive liquid that caught fire the second it came in contact with the air. It zoomed past me and began to melt four men to death. "AAAHHH!!!". They all screamed in agony. They finished melting into a skeleton state.

"TANKER!". I shouted. The tanker positioned itself to shoot it's fire at me but didn't get the chance to. A blue orb came down and got every soldier and every arachnids attention. The blue ball then changed color into a rainbow colored ball. I closed my eyes, still seeing the rainbow lights. Then I saw nothing at all.

Pov twilight
Me and my friends rainbow dash, rarity, pinky pie, applejack, and Fluttershy were all invited for a day at sea by a captain known only as calaeo. She was a parrot pirate captain, who helps equestria during its time of need. She was at the helm of the ship steering with her usual grin.

"so why did you invite all of us out here today?". I asked. Calaeo kept her usual face. "the princesses told me how hard you and your friends have been working lately. So they thought about a day at sea te let ye relax.". She said. She recently has been trying to talk normal equestrian, and it's been going great for her.

I was a little angry to be tricked into going to sea for the day. Though I do feel like I could use the sea air. It really was nice to feel the air fly against my face.

"twilight! Do you see that?". Rainbow dash yelled to me. Everypony, and parrot on board the boat looked to the left to see a blinding rainbow light. It was a ball heading straight for an island in the distance. It had a very large magical aurora around it.

Calaeo had a curious expression on her face. She started to turn the wheel to, and as she did the ship changed direction towards the island. "I say we check out that light show.". She said. "I agree. That ball had a massive amount of magic in it.". I added. Fluttershy seemed to have been... Excited? "ooo. I wonder if the light was something wonderful and happy. It was full of rainbows after all.". She said. She kinda sounded like pinkie pie.

"let's not get our hopes up sugercupe. Looks can be deceiving.". Applejack said. I put my hands on the side of the ship to keep my balance as we gained speed.

"let's hope Fluttershy is right.". I muttered.
