Zombie Chronicles: New World Order
Knock Knock
Previous ChapterNext ChapterFor a while, I thought I’d never see my brother again... but then he found me. And with him came our father, and now our aunt and cousin.
I never talked to Jason much—mainly because I was at the orphanage while Jason was at CHS—but from what I’d heard about him from Riven, Clover, and Bloom—he'd been through a lot in the last few years... come to think of it, I believe we all had, with the end of the world and all.
I was relaxing outside my house on the porch when I glanced over to see Aunt Jess and Filthy Rich, alone, on their own porch. I guessed that they were together, now, but I figured I’d go over and catch up on old times—we all knew so little of what the other had been through in these last three years. I slowly got up and walked over to them, just catching their conversation.
“...I think we should tell him. About us, I mean...” Jessica said to Rich.
“I don’t know—I mean, he already knows about Rin and Len, but... this is different. It’s not like we can just say ‘hey, Jason—how was the year as the Trix’s punching bag? Guess what—I'm dating your mom, and you may be an older brother really soon.’...”
Brother?
No...
“Well, I wouldn’t say it like that, but... yeah—it's better that he knows this time instead of telling him after whatever happens next--”
I couldn’t just eavesdrop anymore, I walked up the steps and waved to her.
“Aunt Jess.” I smiled to her.
She slightly jumped, which caused me to let out a chuckle.
“Hey, Sonata... it’s been a long time.” She smiled back.
Silence... should I tell her? I mean, there was no point in not, but at the same time, if she wanted me to know, she’d tell me.
“Yeah... it has.” I said as I took a seat on a chair next to Jess and Rich.
More damned silence... It was like we knew what to ask, but not how to ask it...
“So... what exactly happened after you left the Kingdom?” I asked her.
Jess seemed to sigh and rest back while Rich took her hand.
“We wound up at Red Fountain—the school that Jason and Riven are from. We stayed there for the most of it, but then Jason left... we looked for him for 4 months, but we couldn’t find anything... we stopped, but Jess didn’t. She kept looking for him as long as she could, but... eventually, she stopped.” Rich said, Jess now resting her head on his shoulder.
At that point, they weren’t even hiding the truth.
“So... are you two... y’know...” I started.
“Yeah. We are.” Jess responded as she simply moved her head up.
I just nodded and decided to ask another question.
"What about Jason? What were you saying about him being a punching bag?" I asked.
Jess sighed and shook her head.
"After something happened with him and Clover, and I told him the truth about his father, he went back to Earth, where they found him... and I can only imagine what they did to him in that time..." She answered me.
Before I could say anything more, I saw Kyle out of the corner of my eye, somewhat limping from his energy still being drained...
“I’ll talk to you guys later...” I told them as I turned and went to talk to my brother.
The feeling wasn’t really life-draining anymore... it was more of just a woozy feeling. But it was still there, a week after the Trix did whatever they did with my amulet.
Heh... my amulet.
I know that Adagio would want me to have it and all, but it just felt wrong to have it—especially if I have no idea what it even did.
“Kyle... can we talk?” Sonata asked me, coming from Jess and Rich’s porch.
I simply nodded and we met at her porch, where I happily took a seat and relaxed...
“So... how’s everything?” She asked me.
I sighed and shook my head.
“I don’t know. Everything’s like a big ball of fire, right now, and I still feel like I got hit by a truck.” I honestly told her, sighing in pain as I took a seat.
Sonata took a moment before examining my amulet further.
“Yeah... they really drained you out. Maybe because Autumn didn’t have much left...” She said, looking at the dulled-out color.
“Okay... so what does that mean?” I asked her.
Sonata hesitated for a moment—almost like she was reliving a bad memory—and sat up.
“Back in Equestria... almost three thousand years ago... Witches and Sirens were sort of partners-in-crime. Sirens drained and stored negative energy while the Witches syphoned it. But, Sirens store it... and Witches can’t. So, before my sisters and I were banished, we were energy sponges for the Three—the Trix are their... descendants, or whatever.” She said, clearly not too sure on that last bit.
I let out a hum while I let the truth settle in—if the amulets stored negative energy, and the Trix absorbed it...
It must’ve been what Autumn was trading away to them, why he looked so weak when they rounded us up...
“Okay... so, what happens now? What, we’re supposed to just live under those animals until we die? Or they kill us?” I pondered out loud.
Sonata simply sighed and shrugged her shoulders.
“Worst case, we could just leave—all of us.” She said.
“Yeah, but where’d we go? Sanctuary’s in shambles and too close, everywhere else near us is under the New World Order--”
Gong... gong... gong...
"Knock, knock! Anybody home?! I’d suggest lettin’ me in, and soon.” That familiar southern accent called out.
We both glanced at each other... clueless over what to do.
I mean... what could we do?
