Author's Note

If anyone is curious, I will explain. When I first created Lily, she was the Nightmare version to my original OC, Lotus Moon. On a random whim, I had the thought that Lily and Sombra would make a good power couple...similar to the Sombra x Chrysalis ship...or Sombra with any other pony.

But for me, Lily x Sombra is my personal OTPC (One True Power Couple) and this art was done by StellarDusk

And since I've never written a story like this before, criticism is encouraged

For My King

Lily flies away from the lair of the recently returned Grogar in a furious huff. She had gone there after witnessing Sombra’s second defeat at the hooves of the Mane 6. She pleaded with Grogar to revive him again, even bowed to him, and offering her loyalty to him in return for Sombra’s revival. And what did he say?

“Sombra was a fool for thinking he could do this on his own. I warned him that breaking those pesky 6 ponies apart instead of fighting them together would be his undoing! He didn’t listen. Why would I bring someone so foolish back only to watch him fail again?” Grogar sneered

“But I could possibly convince him to listen to you! He’s simply an ambitious and proud stallion! He would be a great asset to you if you just give him a chance!!” Lily protested.

“SILENCE!!!” Grogar stamped his cloven hoof and flares at Lily. While his glare made her sweat a little, she didn’t let it show on her face and stood tall. He walked down to her and stood muzzle to muzzle with her, towering over her by three inches. “While you may think it wise to try and bring him back, I don’t dare waste precious magic on such a meaningless task. And I would think one such as you, a ‘dark alicorn’ would see that he cannot be reasoned with. So let...it...go.” And with that, he stalked back to his platform.

Lily growled under her breath and turned to leave, only to be stopped by Chrysalis. “Hmm as black as your heart seems to be, I can sense the love there.” She licked her lips. You cared for him~”

“Back off Bug Bitch! I may not look as powerful as you but push me far enough and I’ll pin you to the wall by your wings and limbs, gut you from your belly to your brain with your own horn, and feed your insides to the Timberwolves.” Lily’s eyes glowed and her horn hummed with magic while a slightly terrified Chrysalis backed away.

“Now that’s not very nice.” A far too sugary voice chimed in. Lily glanced over to see Cozy Glow hovering near her. “You don’t have to take out your anger on her just because you were turned down...or use such vulgar language. You should just talk about how you feel. Then maybe we can all come up with a solution.” Confidence beamed in her childish, pudgy face.

“Shut your fucking diabetic pie hole, you backstabbing hellspawn, or I’ll turn you inside out by sticking you in a blender on purée till you can’t even be recognized as formally being a pony!” She snapped, voice booming and sending the small filly into Tirek’s chest.

Tirek was next to try to speak but the look in Lily’s eyes said if he did, his horns would be snapped off and forcefully put somewhere they shouldn’t be before something worse, unimaginable, and highly graphic happened. So he kept his mouth shut. And with that, Lily stormed out of the lair and made her way back to the Everfree Forest.

When she landed, she landed hard enough to make a small crater. Still seething with rage, Lily huffed and snorted. “That bearish old goat! How dare he defy me! With his power, he could have easily brought Sombra back and he refused! If he were so ancient and more powerful than me, I’d...I’d...RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!” Lily set off a blast of magic that tore through the ceiling of the castle and possibly even the skies. She continued to huff deeply until she caught sight of her reflection. Her eyes. They were beginning to glow green with light purple wisps of smoke radiating from them. Just like her beloved. The only normal part of her eyes was her lilac slit pupils. This sight only lasted for a moment before she blinked and her eyes returned to normal. The gears in her head started turning and she gave herself a wry smile.

“If the All Powerful and Legendary Necromancer, Grogar won’t help me...then I will just have to bring my beloved back myself.” And with that, she set off to put her forming plan into action.

The scene continued to play out in Lily’s head. Sombra, standing tall and determined to break the Mane 6. Them, standing together against him as Princess Twilight makes her little speech. They lock hooves and overpower her beloved. Sombra, being destroyed once again, screaming in defeat as his dark magic is undone. And all she could do was stare in disbelief before flying away. “I should’ve jumped in and tried to protect him. Not hover like a dumbfounded foal. Next time...I will protect him myself.”

Lily flew to where the Tree Of Harmony formally stood and grabbed a few dark crystals that weren't obliterated. Next, she ventured around to various places to collect the rest of the items she needed. After that, she made her way back to her castle, formally the Castle of the Two Sisters, where she had the book she needed. A book of dark magic and spells, not even the Princesses would bother trying to cast. Of course, it's not like they couldn't cast those spells, they just wouldn't. Their world was governed by light, love, hope, and friendship. Lily didn't feel she fell into that category and she had absolutely no problems casting this sort of magic.

Heading deep into the Everfree Forest, so deep that no light could penetrate the trees, Lily set up in preparation to cast a resurrection spell. "To cast this spell takes a great sacrifice that can be anything, even death. The consequences don't scare me. So long as I have Sombra at my side, I fear nothing." She mumbled to herself, all the while, multitasking. She set the crystals at five corners, drew the circle to connect them as well as the runes in the dirt, and drew in magic from deep within her reserves to create her own dark crystal which was filled with her magic. Once the preparations were complete, she read the spell and chanted in an ancient language, charging up her horn. The circle began to glow and the crystals absorbed the magic from her as the winds howled around. Lily's eyes glowed green and she was in a trance. A single question sounded in her head from the ether.

"What will you pay for such a steep venture?

Without skipping a beat, Lily answered, "I have nothing to give...except all that I am. Tether my life force to my beloved. And I will be his source for all that he needs."

With her answer accepted, a light enveloped her before turning into shadow, consuming her entirely. Soon the shadows made their way to the open. It engulfed the center crystal and writhed around it before connecting to the other five crystals. A loud humming sounded until an explosion of shadow covered the area. By this point, Lily was on the ground disoriented, waking up from the trance she was in. When she regained her faculties and looked around. She saw the shadows forming into one solid being. When they became solid, there he stood in all his shadowy regal stature. His ashen coat covered in a red cloak, silver shoes on his hooves, his crimson curved horn, raven black mane flowing in a now non-existent breeze, and piercing eyes.

King Sombra had returned.

He looked over himself, seemingly bewildered. It took him a few moments to notice Lily and assess her properly. When he was done, he approached her. "And who are you?"

"I am Lily, my King." She bowed to him. "I am the one who brought you back."

"Clearly. And I must thank you for that. As now you will be my first foot soldier." His horn flared to life.

Lily's horn hummed with magic as well, summoning shadows to trap Sombra and tether him to the ground.

"What is this?! How is it you are more powerful than me?!"

"I am as powerful as Celestia and Luna if they were to let their darker sides free." Lily paced around Sombra. "Now it was not my intention to pin you like this, my love, but if I have to in order to get you to listen then I will. After your previous failure, I think we can benefit from each other."

Sombra's ears perked. "What do you mean?"

"Do as your enemy does. Work together. Which is now a fitting thing as my life is tethered to yours." A silver infinity insignia glowed on her chest as well as on his, signifying their bond. "Together, we can slowly and systematically cause destruction, tipping the balance in our favor. And when the right moment is upon us, we will take all of Equestria for ourselves and the lands beyond it!" She grinned. "King of Equestria is one thing. King of All an entirely different level! And to rule over all that land, you will need a Queen by your side. I am the obvious choice."

Sombra considered her words and the situation she was in. When he looked calm enough, Lily released him. Sombra stood and walked over to Lily. "Work together, you say? What about Grogar?"

Her face scrunched into a scowl. "Grogar is an old fool. I offered him my loyalty if he gave you a second chance. He refused. He doesn't deserve my loyalty or yours. In time, we will be able to overthrow him as well. And just think. It could be him bowing to us. We can take his power and make it ours."

Sensing her sincerity, Sombra placed an iron-clad hoof on her cheek and smiled. "You are a beautiful and ambitious mare. I do believe you will make an excellent Queen...my Lily."

"That is all I want, my beloved Sombra. The chance to rule at your side and make all your ambitions for total conquest come true."

"Very well. Then let us be off to our castle. We have much to plan." With that, Lily strode off towards the former Castle of the Two Sisters, which is now the Shadow Castle.

"Yes, my shadow King."
