Flaming entered the large-ish room and was surprised to see her little sister sitting on a small stool, watching Philomena’s newly laid egg. She was frowning at the bright egg, tilting her head in... an emotion Flaming couldn’t quite understand. Her ears were flat down on her head, and she didn’t notice her sister entering. “Uh... what are you doing?” Flaming asked skeptically, raising an eyebrow. “Waiting for de egg to hatch.” Fire said in her small lisp, still staring at the egg. Flaming nearly face hoofed, then remembered this was a four year old. Yesterday, Fire had been watching that egg for several hours while Flaming was a school. Or, so her mum had told her. She ought to know... “Um... ya know that isn’t gonna happen, right?” “Yeth it will!” Firebird yelled angrily, glaring at Flaming. “I jutht hafta be pathient.” Flaming groaned and facehoofed. If she kept this up, Fire would be nearly school age. She then said calmly, “I’m glad you’re being ‘pathient’, but Philomena only laid the egg last week. It might not hatch till next year, Phoeny.” Firebird’s eyes widened in realization, and she looked at Flaming, despaired. That one look alone made her feel extremely guilty. “N-next year? But, dat’s ageth away-“ The door burst open, and Sunset came in, saying worriedly, “Girls, what’s going on?!” The door had scared the two girls, and, in her fright, Firebird lost control over her magic and a pink beam shot from her horn, hitting the egg and engulfing it with magic. Magic swirled around it, and small sparks, growing bigger by the second, began emmitting from the egg as it glowed brighter and brighter. Eventually, the magic faded away and the room was blinded in a bright flash of light. Sunset shielded her daughters from it, and thankfully, the glow faded away, leaving the egg exactly as it was. Flaming deadpanned, “Talk about anticlimactic.” As soon as the words left her mouth, a small crack resounded from the egg. The three stared at it, and cracks began forming in the egg itself. A piece of the it was cut out, revealing a tiny pale yellow and orange beak. The rest of it burst into nothing more than tiny shards, revealing an adorable baby phoenix. She had the normal colours of a phoenix, although they were unusually paler, similar to Firebird’s own colour scheme, strangely. Beneath the feathers on the top of her head were little firey wisps with tiny glowing white orbs at the tips. Spread all across her body and wings, there were small teel and pale pink spots, all connected with a tiny white line. Spotting the three ponies staring at her, the baby gave out a tiny chirp and fluttered her wings in an attempt to reach them. Upon failing, she flopped back in the nest and chirped, disappointed. Firebird couldn’t help but fall for it’s adorableness, and she trotted towards it. The phoenix chirped once more, and Firebird giggled, “Hey, you know your own name! Firefern!” Flaming stared. and uttered, “H-How d-did you know that?!” Fire rolled her eyes, giggling, and said, “She told me, you thilly-billy!” Suddenly, a bright flash appeared on Fire’s flank. They all stared as, to their enormous shock, a cutie mark appeared! It was two phoenix eggs, one laying in front of the other, with a small pink magic burst behind it. Surrounding that were nine symmetrical creamy white dots in a circular shape. A stunned silence followed. Sunset could barely breathe, let alone think properly. Firebird hatched the phoenix egg. She got her cutie mark. She could understand phoenixes. AT THE AGE. OF FOUR. Sunset was sure her brain broke in that silence. Firebird lept into the air, yelling, “I WOVE IT I WOVE IT I WOVE IT!!!... what is it?” Flaming said, stunned, “You... you got your cutie mark. YOU GOT. YOUR CUTIE MARK. HOW?!” Fire looked up at her mother and tilted her head slightly, saying, “Are you okay, Mummy?” ... “Well... I... I’m certainly... p-proud of you, Phoeny, but, um...” Without warning, Philomena swooped in, and landed next to the little nest. She chirped at her new little baby, and nuzzled her head affectionately. She turned to Firebird amd squawked to her, and Fire smiled, “You’re welcome, Fiwomena!” Flaming stared, and said, “She can understand phoenixes. So did not see that coming... uh... congrats on the new... arrival, Philomena?... Con... congrats...” An hour later, Firestreak returned to the castle and saw Sunset staring into space. “Hey, Sun, you okay?” “Define okay.” Firstreak grew worried, and said, “Is something wrong with you? What about the girls? Are they sick? Are they alright?!” “No, no, they’re fine. I’m not sick or anything. I think I broke something though, with what happened today...” “WHAT?! OH, CELESTIA, SUNSET. JUST TELL ME!!!” ... “My brain...” Author's Note This was alot of fun to write, and I hope you enjoy it! The next two chapters will hopefully be coming soon, so *sings* BE PREPARED! Canterlot city was covered with rain as the night was at it’s peak. In the castle, a little filly was sleeping restlessly, squirming in her small bed. BOOM Firebird gave a small yelp as she sat up bolt right in her bed. She looked around nervously, her eyes drifting outside as she slowly realized it had been the thunder that had awoken her. Frightened, she whispered softly, “F-F-Flamy?” BOOM Pop Teleporting into the throne room, Fire looked around, terrified at her dark surroundings. The guards were on the other side of the door, and they were far to big to open on her own. She slowly stuttered, “M-Mummy? D-D-Daddy?” BOOM She screamed, and raced off, not even thinking about were she was going, only thinking of getting away from the scary booming. Firebird continued to scream and flailing her hooves wildly as a tail picked her up from the ground. Realizing her hooves were no longer on the ground, she opened an eye and spotted the snake-like tail wrapped around her. A voice then spoke. “Well, isn’t this an adorable scene. Shouldn’t you be in bed, young mare?” Firebird looked up and her eyes shrunk in fear upon seeing the creature before her. Bat and pegasus wings, horns like she’d never seen, huge tooth, multicolored body... Without warning, she screamed in alarm, causing the creature to yelp and cover his ears, nearly dropping her. While it only lasted a moment, Discord felt as if his eardrums were about to explode. “Hey, come on what gives?” He was a bit surprised when the filly whimpered, wings flaring out and practically covering her whole body and shaking in terror, crying. Guards burst in, having heard the scream, but some nearly face hoofed when realizing it was the ‘Lord of Chaos’ himself. Pansy Glow came in after them, rubbing her tired eyes. She had a light greenish-yellow coat with magenta eyes, and a dark pink curly mane with several light pink stripes. She yawned, and said, “Dis... Discord? Wha... what’s happening?” “Pansy! What are you doing up?” “I could ask you the same thing... wait, who’s this?” “Oh, just the little princess out of bed. No biggie. Although I swear, my ears were about to explode!” Pansy took one look at the shaking filly and gasped. “Discord! What did you do?!” He held his claw and paw up in defense and said, “I didn’t do anything! I swear! She just looked at me and screamed!” Pansy flew up and gently took the filly from him. “Discord, this is Sunset’s daughter! She’s four, and would have never seen a creature like you! Just look at her, she’s terrified! Oh, it’s okay, Firebird, calm down, you’re safe...” Firebird looked up at the kind mare through her tears and snuggled closer to her, slowly relaxing. “Honey, it must be the storm. Don’t you remember how scared Topsy used to be?” “Well, yes, I do, but why is she down here?” He took her in his paw, looking closer at her, noting that she was less frightened, but still a bit. “Hmm... must be the magic. Alicorns can be like that, after a-“ BOOM Fire gave another scream and clung to Discord’s neck, shaking and sobbing. He was rather surprised, but gently stroked her, like he did whenever little Topsy was scared of anything. Sunset came running in, saying, “Pansy?! Discord?! Where’s Firebird?!” Discord waved his claw dismissively, “Oh, relax, Shimmer. She’s right here. You might want to cure that... storm-ophobia... of hers, though.” Sunset nodded to the guards, who took their leave, before Discord handed the filly to her. She sighed, “Thanks, you two, when I realized she was gone... well, i’m just glad that she’s okay.” “Well, she was screaming an awful lot. Nearly had my ears exploding!” “Like that can happen to you...” “Well, just be glad that I found her, safe and sound.” Pansy stated meekly, “Um, well, she was terrified of you to begin with...” Firebird looked up to see her mother, the kind mare and the weird creature talking together. He didn’t seem so bad, now... Discord spotted the filly staring at him curiously. He smiled, and said, “Well, I suppose that ought to wrap up this meeting. I hope to see you again soon, Sunrise Shimmer-“ “SunSET!” “Yes, yes, whatever. And I know, i’ll be seeing you again soon, little missy!”, he finished, booping Fire on the nose before teleporting himself and Pansy away. Sunset chuckled, “Welp, that’s Discord for you. Sunset was walking throught the castle with Celestia and Flaming Sun at her side, the ten year old talking happily about school. “And then Novelty put the sodium chloride in, and it was alright for a moment, but then the whole thing just exploded over our faces.” Celestia chuckled and said something to Flaming, Sunset not listening. She had a strange feeling, but was unable to place it... “Um, excuse me, Lady Sunset?” She turned slightly to see a sheepish looking guard standing before her, and recognized him as one of three guards set with watching over her younger daughter. “Yes, General? Is something wrong?” “Well, uh, it’s about your daughter, your assistance is required as she is being rather stubborn.” Sunset hung her head and sighed, “Thanks for letting me know. What’s she done this time?” “Er... you may wish to see for yourself...” “NO!” “Please, Firebird, just give me the crayons and...” “NO!!!” A small burst and a yelp could be heard from inside the chambers as the small group arrived. Sunset opened the door and her eyes widened the sight before her. The left wall was completely covered in multicoloured crayon drawings, mostly scribbles that were unidentifiable, except one. Firebird was standing at the base of the wall, frowning and tongue sticking out in concentration and she scribbled on the walls, doing her best to get... whatever it was right. Finally, after a tiny scribble more, she beamed and said, “Yay! I finithed da pwinthethes!” “Firebird Phoenix!” Fire lept a meter into the air and whirled around, seeing her rather angry mother standing over her. “Uh... ta-daaa?...” Author's Note I’m sorry, I know how short this chapter is, but the story was originally short, and I couldn’t figure out how to make it longer. Also, i’m really sorry for what my stories are like so far. Despite what i’ve been told by my friends and family, I really don’t think they’re that good, especially the early on ones which are really boring. I’m one of those people who just wants to skip ahead and get to the exciting bits, so things are pretty rushed and kinda hard to understand sometimes. So, i’m sorry for how these are turning out. Anyway, there you have it! That, bronys and pegasisters, are the first four stories completed. The next one should be coming out soonish, (dunno when) sooooooo yeah.
