With the light in her horn disappearing, Princess Luna returns from the dream world and returns to the castle. Usually, her job would require a lot of work to prevent some poor ponies having nightmares and worse things. However, there's not too many of them lately. In fact, she's still quite awake even after her shift, whereas she usually would carry eye bags. The sun had already appeared from the horizon, that means Celestia would meet her at the dining room. Hopefully she got those lovely pancakes ready for her.
Opening the large door to the dining room, Luna sees Princess Celestia on one side, already munching some of her pancakes, while another plate of them are on the other side of the long table. The white alicorn is quick to notice her sister's presence. "Good morning, dear sister! I've prepared breakfast for you."
Luna silently nodded. Ever since that cutie mark switching incident, Luna would try not to miss the chance to spend time with Celestia, unless she's really tired. Because both of them need to do so many things, and have a significantly different sleep time, they value their sister bonds more then ever now. Going over to her seat, Luna notices that Celestia's pancakes have oranges and pineapples arranged like the sun on top of the pancake.
"A motif of the sun... What is this? A hidden message about you, Celestia?" Luna called out jokingly. Like other siblings, Celestia and Luna have a bit of a rivalry going on between them. One of them is about how much influence they have in Equestria, who is the better and more known princess, and such.
Princess Celestia chuckled, getting another chunk of her pancake with her fork. "We all know what they say, Luna. Praise the sun." Celestia smiled before she get another mouthful of her breakfast.
Not going to let the chance to have some friendly banter with her sister, Luna presses on. "How ironic that you say that while we're currently eating the sun." Luna drives her joke home by taking a chunk of her pancake, making sure to get the sun motif, and eats it.
"At least everypony likes it." Celestia waves her hoof dismissively, before she takes another chunk of pancake into her mouth.
"Hah, I'm pretty sure ponies love to see the moon more." Luna continues. "You are not supposed to stare at the sun, while you can see the moon all night long."
"Oh, really? Remind me how many ponies decides to sleep when the moon is raised?" Celestia leans a bit forward, giving Luna the most annoying face she can give, eyes squinted with a smug smile. She knows that Luna actually likes doing something like this more and won't take it to heart. Luna actually chuckled at her face. Knowing that she's beaten, Luna decides to stay silent and finish her pancake instead.
Seeing that she had won, Celestia decides to do what other siblings do when they won against their younger sister: Gloat. "Praise Princess Celestia. The better and stronger Princess of Equestria." She dramatically raised a hoof to the air. This catches Luna's interest, not the hoof, but what she just said.
"Stronger? We haven't determined that you're stronger then me, sister." Luna said confidently. Despite their rivalry, neither princess rarely talk about which of them is stronger, for some reason. They only did once, and it was princess Celestia that came on top, which the white alicorn wastes no time reminding her sister about it.
"I think you forgot whose shield buckled under my simple spell. Should we try that again?" The princess of the sun smirks. Unlike her former student, princess Celestia very rarely shown any of her magic prowess other then raising the sun, and compared to her sister, doesn't really care much about her magical abilities. But that doesn't mean she's not powerful. During one magic sparring she did with Luna, a simple magic beam from her horn is capable to leave a dent on Luna's shield, even when Luna is the one who often trains herself.
However, Luna doesn't seem to be worried. Taking another fork full of pancakes, she surprisingly doesn't deny Celestia's statement. "Yes, you are superior in strength. However, I'm talking about something else."
"Do tell." Celestia eats the last bit of her pancake as she hears Luna explain. The dark blue alicorn spends some time chewing on her food before explaining.
"Physical and magical strength are important, as you know. But what about psychological strength?" Luna smirks, stabbing her last bit of pancake before continuing. "I dare say I thrive on that end because of the dream world, but yours might be questionable, sister."
Celestia takes a moment to digest Luna's accuse, before returning her smirk. This seems like a challenge, one that the white alicorn is happy to accept if it means triumph awaits her over her little sister. "Is that a challenge, Luna? You sounded like you are going to test me on that."
Luna was just finished chewing through her pancake. "You read my mind, Celestia. If you're so sure that you can prove me wrong, I can show you in the dream world."
Contrary to popular belief, Luna isn't the only one who are able to enter the dream world. It is accessible via an advanced spell, but the one in charge will still be the princess of the moon, who will have full control of it. Princess Celestia is one of the few ponies capable of entering the dream world, but haven't really did so because of how busy she is. Speaking as siblings, it will be tough to complete whatever challenge set by Luna in her own turf, but accomplish that, and Celestia will prove who's the better princess once and for all. Such opportunity is something she simply cannot miss, and the timing can't get any better.
"If I remember correctly, I should have some free time in the evening because of a postponed event, so I can get some rest before our little... activity." Celestia stood up and collects both empty plates to be cleaned later. "Shall I join you after the moon is raised?"
"That would be the most perfect timing." Luna declared. "If there is no nightmare emergency, which I highly doubt will happen during this time, we may proceed. Now, excuse me, but I'll need to get some rest for the day."
Luna got up from her seat, and was about to merrily trot to her room, when a cough from Celestia caught her attention. Her sister is walking to the other door herself, but she points at the table, where the two plates still reside. This makes Luna look around the room... wait, where are the maids?
"If you would be so kind, Luna. I told the maids they can have a break from the dishes of our breakfast." Celestia giggled, and flees out of the room, leaving Luna behind. The princess of the moon frowned, but a small smile crept up at the corner of her lips. It may be a set up, but she understands that Celestia still got a lot to do today. Besides, if her plan works well, she'll get back on her sister in the dream world tonight
Luna levitates the dirty plates and goes to the nearby kitchen. "Just you wait, dear sister..."
In the same dining room, but at a different time, both Celestia and Luna reenters the room, this time for dinner. Celestia herself just woke up from her evening rest, something she rarely get from her busy schedule. Luna, meanwhile, is about to raise the moon and start her duties, if any. Unlike Celestia, Luna doesn't have a strict schedule, but there's no telling what she'll encounter in the dream world. She can be very busy, have nothing to do, or somewhere in between. Right now, she hope there's nopony having a nightmare that needs fixing, or worse.
Luna notices that the castle's chefs have prepared her a nice looking apple pie, possibly provided by the Apple family. She sat down her chair, as Celestia does the same on the opposite side. "I hope you haven't walked out from our deal, sister?"
Celestia levitates her pie, ready to take a bite of it. "Of course I haven't Luna, what do you take me for?" She said with a confident smile.
"Excellent! I'm going to the dream world right away after I raise the moon. Join me when you're ready, sister!" Luna dramatically chomps down on her pie, slightly smearing her muzzle with it's filling, making Princess Celestia chuckle. The white alicorn choose to eat her pie more slowly. Princesses needs to keep themselves look proper, after all, something she hopes that Luna will pay more attention to. Meanwhile, Princess Luna is eating her pie at light speed. It seems she's very eager to their little challenge.
Realizing that Luna had almost finished her pie, Celestia is still having her dinner. "I'll have the spell ready, you can go ahead first." She said calmly.
The scroll where the spell to enter the dream world is in possession of Princess Celestia somewhere, but even for an alicorn like her, it will take some time to prepare. She should be ready once Luna had raised the moon, and monitor the initial condition of the dream world. After munching the last of her pie, Princess Luna bolted out of the room in a hurry, namely for her to do her duties, and to avoid more extra tasks.
Shouting as she ran away from the room, Princess Celestia can still hear Luna's voice from outside. "You're doing the dishes this time, Celestia! It's only fair!"
The alicorn chuckled. There's no way she'll give the maids a break when she knows Luna will do this to her.
The skies of Equestria darkens as night time falls. The stars and the moon, recently raised by Princess Luna, now brightens the sky. Almost as soon as she raised the moon, the alicorn quickly enters the dream world like she usually does. She did a quick scan of the state of the dream world, usually a nightmare would stick out like a sore thumb.
"Twilight is marrying a book... Flurry Heart is being a DJ again... Lyra is with... whatever that pink skinned creature is..." Like she said, there's no significant nightmares lately. The little ones can usually be solved by their own. Perfect, the night is all set for her and Celestia. "Excellent! I'll make sure Celestia doesn't stand a chance against me here!"
Her horn glowing bright, Princess Luna starts to work. Her magic is not as strong as her sister, but her control of her dimension is literally unmatched. She can almost make anything happen here, not too far from what Discord can do in the real world. She made a dome of magic, isolating her, and soon Celestia when she comes here, from all the vision of the dreams of countless ponies. She plans to let only let Celestia see specific ones, those that are dreams from the past...
Princess Celestia read the scroll for the third time, making sure it's the right one. Interdimentional travel always have a risk of being transported to the wrong place even if you miscast the spell slightly. After going through the spell again and again, the alicorn is sure this is the right one that will take her to Luna's dream world. Alone in her room, the alicorn uses a chalk to draw the rune on the floor around her. The spell is so advanced, that even an alicorn would need them.
After she's done drawing, Princess Celestia closes her eyes and lit up her horn. The rune under her turns dark blue, which in turn momentarily changes her magic to the same color. A few seconds later, a flash, and the princess is no longer in her room.
When she opens her eye, it looks like she's in a room, with all the walls, floor, and ceiling colored a dull gray. It's almost impossible to determine which way is up or down, or how big the space is exactly. However, one thing that helps her get her bearings is the sight of Princess Luna, standing not too far in front of her.
"Hail, sister! You have made here safely!" The younger alicorn happily skips to her sibling, who's still a bit confused.
Celestia looked around, this place doesn't reassemble the dream world compared to the last time she was there. "Luna? Is this really your dream world? It looks considerably different." She asks calmly.
When the younger alicorn lights her horn, a swirl of doors with different colors appear and surrounds both alicorns. Each of them looks like a simple wooden doors that most ponies have in their houses. "Worry not! I simply made preparations for our little challenge."
Speaking of the challenge, Celestia never asked what kind of challenge will Luna throw at her. Though, she's pretty confident that she can handle it. This shouldn't be as hard as defending Canterlot from a full invasion of Changelings, right?
"What do you have for me? Sister?" Celestia asked, willing to take any challenges to triumph over her younger sister. Though, it better not be video games. Luna approaches Celestia with a smirk, rubbing one of the white alicorn's hoof with her own.
"It's simple, dear sister. All you have to do, is admit that I am better then you."
Huh, it's pretty weird challenge, and unbelievably simple. That seems easy enough, too easy, that she wonders if this is just a joke from Luna, just to make her waste time going into her dream world. Celestia laughs at her sister because of this. "Oh, Luna. We've went through this since we're fillies. What makes you think I'll say it now?"
It's Luna's turn to smirk. With her magic, one of the doors surrounding them gets closer, an orange colored one. Princess Luna steps aside and places the door next to her, in front of Celestia. "Because, I know what can make you say it."
The door creaks open, blinding light coming from it forces Celestia to shield her eyes until it dims down mere seconds later.
