There was a soft knock at the door of Mocha’s house. She got up and smiled as she went over and unlocked it, opening it up to see the pony she was expecting. There stood a large mare, her eyes a milky light cyan, her mane a beautiful white, and her fur a delicate brown color. She wore a nice green dress and a caring smile. Mocha smiled more as the mare greeted her.
“Hello, Mocha~!” She said happily as she hugged her close.
“Heya Silkie!” Mocha smiled as she hugged her friend back,” Long time no see!”
Silkie released her and smiled a bit,” The orphanage needed some help, so I was a bit busy, sorry I couldn’t make it for tea time last Friday…”
“It’s alright,” Mocha reassured as she grabbed Silkie’s hand,” Hey, why not come on inside? I got some tea and sandwiches ready!”
“That would be lovely~” Sikie said softly as she was lead to the couch.
Silkie, her full name Silkie Smooth, was a simple mare, and friend of Mocha Love. She was an averagely sized mare for her height, shy, but caring. She was also blind, but she never let that get in the way of her doing things. Which is actually how she met Mocha Love.
Mocha smiled as she brought back the tea and sandwiches and places them down on the table in front of them, a small chocolate brown lab named Coco following her happily. She sat down next to and gave Silkie her tea. She happily took a sip of it and smiled at her.
“So, how has life been?” Mocha asked as she took a long sip from her tea.
“It’s been going good!” Silkie smiled softly,” My mom and dad visited me a few days ago, and we had a lovely time together, went bowling and sightseeing in Manehatten.”
“Ooo~! Did you get any souvenirs~?” Mocha asked.
“I did get a snowglobe and some chocolate… you can guess what was eaten~” Silkie giggled.
Mocha smiled,” That sounds lovely~!”
Silkie nodded and put her cup of tea down, squeaked in the general direction of the sandwiches, and picked one up and took a bite, savoring the taste of it. Mocha could make amazing coffee, but she could also make amazing sandwiches and treats as well. Mocha also leaned forward and grabbed a sandwich as well, gently nibbling on it as Silkie finished her own.
“So, how’s the cafe going?” Silkie asked as she placed her hands in her lap.
“It’s going good!” Mocha beamed,” Ever since I introduced to Buck Start to the menu, a lot of ponies have been coming in to get it and try it! Sometimes they come back and order something different, some even told me that, since the first one they had was so good, the others must be as well~!”
“That’s amazing!” Silkie replied happily,” I know you take great pride in your work!”
“I do, I do, but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember my begins back as a little filly trapper, who was good at her craft, but always eager to learn more~!”
“I think you’ve told me about that,” Silkie placed a finger gently against her chin,” Didn’t you say that one of your traps caught a poor stray dog?”
Mocha looked down a bit, slightly saddened by the memory,” Yeah… I felt really bad…”
“But you took the dog in and raised it, right?” Silkie questioned innocently.
“Mhm, I did, she was a cute little thing,” Mocha replied as she recalled her first pet’s name,” I think her name was… Lovely?”
“Maybe,” Silkie shrugged,” You have a lot of stories about animals that you’ve taken care of and trapped and hunted.”
“True… but either way,” Mocha smiled back on the fond memory of her playing with Lovely,” She was a good dog.”
“Did you ever have a pet, Silkie?” Mocha asked as she picked up Coco and petted him.
“Hm… I did have a pet bird named Tweety… she wasn’t anything special, well, to other ponies, but to me, she was a sweetheart~” Silkie smiled.
“That’s lovely~!” Mocha said as she placed her hand down on her lap.
“So, how’s the date hunt going?” Silkie asked as she took a sip from her teacup.
“It isn’t going so good, to be honest,” Mocha replied as she shrugged,” I’m just waiting for the right one telling me they love me.”
“Well, I hope they do come around and tell you,” Silkie replied with a gentle sigh,” You deserve an amazing pony and partner in your life.”
“Thank you, Silkie,” Mocha smiled.
The two had been talking for quite some time, the food was now gone, Coco was asleep on the chair, and all that remained awake were the two mares, the only things left was the tea. As they talked, Silkie remembered something important, yet still rather a fresh wound. Silkie shifted a bit, a worried look on her muzzle as she asked simply.
“Mocha… how have the nightmares been?”
Mocha stopped a bit, her pupils shrunk a bit. She slumped over a second later, rubbing her arm softly as a tear formed in her eye. Softly, she told her,” They’ve… been getting worse…”
Silkie’s ears flattened against her head as she pulled the coffee mare into a tight embrace,” Why haven’t you told me, or Caffeine?”
“I’ve told Caffeine… but she’d told me the same thing, go to the doctor and get it checked out,,” Mocha replied softly as she buried her muzzle into Silkie’s soft mane,” I’m just afraid of what they are going to tell me…”
“Mocha… I’m saying this as a friend, and a pony who cares about you,” Silkie said as she held Mocha’s head in her hands, looking down at her softly,” Please… promise me that you will at least go and get a checkup, I don’t want you to be in this much pain anymore… it hurts me as well.”
“O-okay…” Mocha looked down a bit.
“You aren’t just saying that to make me be quiet, are you?” Silkie asked, her face filled with worry.
“O-Of course not!” Mocha yelled, she then covered her mouth and quieted down,” It’s just that… why are you my friend when there is something like this wrong with me?”
“Because friends stick together,” Silkie replied,” We need to look past the flaws most of the time, and try to see the good, and bring out that goodness.”
Mocha as silent for a moment, then pulled her legs onto the couch and laid her head on Silkie’s shoulder. Silkie placed her hand on Mocha’s side and gently nuzzled her forehead, then wrapped her wing around her and pulled her close. Mocha sighed softly, liking the warmth a lot. She looked out the window and saw that the sun was setting. Her ears perked up a bit.
“Oh no!” Mocha pouted,” I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to keep you so long!”
“It’s alright, Mocha,” Silkie replied,” I was planning on staying to help with your nightmares anyways.”
“R-Really?” Mocha looked up at her,” A-Are you sure?”
Silkie nodded,” Of course, I want to help you get more sleep~.”
Mocha once again fell silent for a moment, the spoke back up,” Alright… you go into the bedroom and get changed and ready… I need to take a shower and such, alright?”
“Alright,” Silkie replied as she gently nuzzled Mocha.
Silkie got up and slowly walked to Mocha’s bedroom, her hips swaying a bit as she disappeared down the hall and into Mocha’s bedroom. Mocha herself got up and headed to the bathroom, and got herself undressed, and into the shower. Letting the warm water hit her fur and warm her up, much like Silkie’s warm embrace.
“I want to tell you…” Mocha said softly as she looked down towards the bottom of the tub,” But I fear the worse…”
She didn’t know, but fate had a plan for her. A plan that she would like to be a part of.
Silkie sat on the bed, her hands in her lap as she waited for Mocha to get done brushing her teeth and taking a shower. “Thanks, mom~,” Mocha giggled softly, tiredly, and jokingly.
“Goodnight, little one~,” Silkie replied as she laid her head back against the soft pillow, hugging her friend close to her bosom.
There was no reply as Mocha slowly fell asleep, her long tail wagging a bit as she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around Silkie. With one final purr, Mocha was finally asleep, allowing Silkie to calmly watch over her and make sure she is okay for the rest of the night. She looked around, not caring if she could see or not, but she did, mostly as a way of warning, telling all monsters that dared to stay within this room to leave or stay away, that this small mare she was protecting shall not be harmed in any way, shape, or form. A few hours had passed, Silkie still laid there, visualant, she wouldn’t admit that she had drunk a bit too much coffee before going over to Mocha’s, homebrew. She sighed softly as her wings unstiffened from non-use on her back, flexing the muscles a bit.
As she did so, Mocha softly snorted and her eyes slowly started to open up. She groaned a bit and pushed herself up, gaining Silkie’s attention.
“Oh! Mocha, you’re awake,” Silkie smiled softly,” Are you alright, do you need water, something to eat, or?”
Mocha blinked a bit as she looked down at the bigger mare, then responded softly,” N-No… I just… had a dream, been having it for a while…”
Mocha sat up a bit and sat on Silkie’s belly softly, her tail curling up around her a bit as she rubbed her arm softly, a very heavy blushing softly settling on her cheeks.
“Oh?” Silkie asked softly,” Is it the dream with the pigeons again?”
“N-No… something else... “ Mocha replied as her blush deepened heavily.
“Oh? May I ask what your dream was about?” Silkie asked, oblivious to the deep blush.
Mocha was silent for a moment, her tail tightening a bit around her as she softly whispered,” Y-You…”
Silkie’s ears perked up a bit, as she too blushed, but she wanted to make sure she got it right,” C-Come again?”
“You…” Mocha stated louder as she looked down at her friend.
“What about?” Silkie inquired, her hand now resting on Mocha’s hand.
“It’s hard to… put into words…” Mocha stated softly,” But… I can show you…”
“Mocha, you now I can’t-MPHF!?” Silkie’s eyes opened wide as she felt a pair of lips press against hers. They tasted of coffee, and a bit of mane fell onto her face.
Her blush was bright enough to block out the sun as she slowly closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around Mocha, her wings now a tad stiff. She wasn’t quite sure if this was happening, or maybe if she had fallen asleep without knowing it? Silkie was speechless, her mouth hung open for a bit as she contemplated what to say next. Her blush deepened a bit as she started to form the words she wanted to say to Mocha.
“I-I’m… sorry…” Mocha stated softly.
The words cut hers to ribbons as Mocha apologized for the kiss and advance to her, saying that she didn’t know what came over her. She explained that she had been having dreams of them together for a while now, but each time, putting off telling her, saying that it might ruin their friendship, which she held very, very close. Silkie listened as Mocha softly continued, then, when it was her time to speak, she told her side of the story. She told Mocha how she also valued their friendship, how she held it close, with barely even a few words out, she felt the mare shake. That’s when she told her, her feelings. She told Mocha that she had been holding the same feelings, and that, when she told her that she was looking for a partner, she was happy for her, albeit a tad jealous, but she would never openly state it.
Mocha’s shaking stopped as Silkie continued on. When she finished, the air was thick with silence. Neither had any more to say, now that they have aired out their own feelings and thoughts, but that air clung to them like sap from a tree. This silence hung there for a good few minutes as Mocha stared into Silkie’s eyes, and Silkie’s staring into hers.
“I-Is that true?” Mocha asked softly, her ears rising a bit.
“All of it is…” Silkie confirmed with a slight nod.
Mocha smiled softly as her heart fluttered a bit. She leaned down and kissed Silkie once more, before smiling a bit.
“W-Would you like to go on a date sometime?” Mocha asked softly.
“I’d love to~,” Silkie replied.
“Great~!” Mocha cheered softly as she clapped.
“Oh!” Mocha smiled as her eyes lit up,” This reminds me of a deer tradition… one from my tribe at least~.”
“Oh?” Silkie asked softly as she rose up a bit,” Really? What is it?”
“In our culture, we call it Nosuflor Matasuf, or, pre-mating, a way to see if a mate is right~.” Mocha explained,” Would you like to try it~?”
