Chapter 1: Into the Royal Guard
It is time I told you a story about one pony in detail, more importantly a guard. This one guard has made a major difference, in Equestria and everywhere else. This will tell of the many deeds he has done, as his many tales originate from. I shall not let you wait any longer, here is his first tale.......
“But..... I don’t know what I can do to get my cutie mark...” a little white colt spoke out. This young colt, having a blonde mane that almost flowed and blue eyes that shimmered in the light, was attempting to find out what his cutie mark would be, as with all young ponies. The thing with him was that his younger sister Fleur had already had hers, and he was growing anxious to get his. “Don't worry Max, you will soon find yours, some just take a while to get,” Fleur replied. She was always such a nice sister, more mature than the rest her age. She was always there for me, in which I promised that I would try and be always there for her. “I hope it comes sooner... I just want one.,”max said. “Well you're not gonna get it just sitting here now, are you?”Fleur replied. “No.... I guess I can look around and see what I can do then...”. At that moment Max had ran outside, seeing what there could be done around Canterlot. Of course, this was a big city so there had to be some things that weren’t being done.
Throughout the day, this colt had done about everything. From the bakeries throughout the streets, to the barbers in their parlors. Even going to the farms in Ponyville to see if he could do anything, but there was nothing he could help with. He had tired himself out, coming home to crash on the bed. Fleur had came in to check up on him, but seeing him already asleep. She walked over to the bed, tucking him in and giving a light kiss on the forehead. Smiling, she quietly whispered goodnight to him, closing the door ever so slowly without a single sound. It was a long night that night, waking up in the middle of the night with a blank expression on his face. He couldn’t sleep no more, feeling as if it were morning already. He couldn’t wake up Fleur, otherwise she would get upset for doing so. Both of their parents were out of the house, so he could not rely on them for comfort or as to why he could not sleep.
So he decided to go outside in the pure darkness of the night.
It was a cool summer night, a little humid but not overwhelming. The smell of the busy city offset him, as it was a little musky and industrial. He wanted to get away from it and go to somewhere he can rest his uneased mind, where it can clear from all the stress of trying to find out what his cutie mark would be. He ventured out of the city, noticing how dead it was down there. The only place that seemed alive was the castle, in which fluttered with lights, as they danced around in the windows. Whatever was going on in there must be very lively, but it didn’t matter right now.
Max had to get away from here, so he ventured along. He entered a thick wooded area of the forest, where it was difficult to see where you were going. The vegetation literally soared above him, getting tangled every so often. He kept to a path that was already worn into the ground, possibly somepony who has already been in here. The path lead to a clearing with a lake, a serene view to him. Max had tired himself out, exhausted. He lowered himself to the grassy knoll below, soft as his bed was. It was quiet up here, and the air smelled of dew and a fragrance that max was unaware of, perfume.
Somepony else was here, or was here. Either way it made Max a little bit suspicious of what was here, keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary even though he just found this place. It then started to get a little uncomfortable, as if that something was watching him. Shivers went down his back as he started to walk away from the clearing. He took the same path back, occasionally looking back to see if it or whatever it was was still following him, but to see nothing was there. As he progressed on, rustling and breaking of branches, there was something definitely behind him. As to what it is, he didn’t want to find out. His trot turned into a gallop, racing off the path, trying to get away from whatever it was. The rustling behind him started to grow louder, and closer. He knew he couldn’t outrun it, for he was just a little colt. He tried weaving through the trees, but the sounds behind him didn’t have any give to the maneuvers. Finally, Max exited out of the forest, running back onto the road towards Canterlot. The sounds stopped a few yards into the forest, as if it didn’t want to come out and be seen. Max looked back, to see its eyes. They weren’t fiendish or monstrous eyes, but a gentle and almost feminine look to them. they had a blue color to them that glowed against the darkness. Even by that, he still didn’t want to see what it was so he trotted along the road back to Canterlot.
The gate was closed, and no way to get in. Two guards stood outside the front gate, keeping from any intrusions happening as it was their job. Max thought that maybe they would let a little colt like him in, so he trotted up to the gate. They both looked at him with a blank expression on their faces, stopping him dead in his tracks. “Why can’t I go inside? I live in there,” max complained. “We can’t let you in due to curfew, plus it would seem odd for a colt to be out here at this time,” one of the guards said, giving a suspicious look back at him.
