What a Strange Dream....
What a Strange Dream..
Load Full StoryWhat a Strange Dream...
Hey I'm Blake, and I have been having the strangest dreams lately. The weirdest part is that they almost seem real. It all started with this strange new land, that I had never heard of before, appearing in my dreams.....
"Goodnight!" I called out towards my family as I made my way up the stairs to my bed.
"Goodnight!" They called back.
It had been a long day and right now I longed for sleep. As usual, the day had been a blur. Life is so busy when you have a wife and kids. Not to mention a job, it just makes time fly by. But none of that mattered to me, as I climbed into my soft comfortable bed and let sleep overtake me.
I awoke in a different room altogether. As I slowly, groggily, scanned my surroundings I discovered I was once again in the treelike house that was the towns librarian's. The walls containing various books, all neatly organized, and the telescope aimed out the window from the stargazing that took place the night before. Not only that, I could hear the mare's voice waft up to the bedroom, as she prepared what smelled like breakfast. This all confirmed the fact I was back in this world.
That's right, I said MARE. You see, all the residents of this world are multi colored ponies. As strange as it seems, it's true. Also I am known as "Gizmo" here, on account of my cutie mark being a set of gears.
Back again I see. I thought to myself, as the smell drew me out of my rather inviting bed, down the stairs, and towards the kitchen. The place wasn't hard to navigate when one of the residents is extremely well organized.
I entered the kitchen to find the purple mare, named Twilight, making some roasted grass and daisies. She kept referring to a cook book as she performed each step of the recipe. To tell the truth, the look on her face was kind of cute.
She noticed my approach and greeted me saying, "Oh good morning Gizmo, I made breakfast." She wore an white apron that had the words, "Cook by the book." on it. I still have no idea what it means out of all the times she has worn it.
I smiled then replied, "I could tell. It looks very tasty, my favorite too." She blushed at that. I walked into the next room and sat at the table, as she trotted in happily carrying our plates and food in her magic.
We had just begun eating when a loud thud sounded from the door.
"Must be the mail." I said, standing up, "I'll get it." The bookish mare nodded in acknowledgment, as she pulled out a book.
I casually walked over to the door and opened it, revealing the ditzy mail mare, Derpy. Judging from the pegasus shaped imprint on the wall, she missed the ground again. I really didn't mind, seeing as Twilight could easily repair it with her magic. Even if it would be the fifth time this week.
"Hi Gizmo! Here's your mail, sorry about the wall. I just don't know how I keep missing the landing like that." She told me as she handed today's newspaper to me. She wore a sheepish grin.
I gave her a warm smile. "Don't worry Derpy I'm sure you will make it someday. Thanks for the mail! You have a nice day."
That made her grin as she waved goodbye and flew off upside down. I nickered and shut the door.
I walked back to the table, paper in hoof, and opened up the paper. Twilight was too engrossed with her book to ask about it, so I just let her be. I looked at the front page story and my eyes widened in surprise at the title.
"Blake needs to wake up because he is thirsty."
At that moment I shot awake. I looked around to find I was Blake again and I was in my bed, next to my wife. Thirst tickled my throat, so I decided to grab a glass of water from the kitchen. The room was dark, but all my experience with the place made it no need for light. Strangely enough I didn't feel too tired. Must have been because of the dream. However that didn't change the fact that I was a bit groggy.
I made my way silently out of the room as to not wake my wife. Then I crept down the stairs, my thirst niggling at me the whole time. I walked down the hall, and to the kitchen. After arriving at the the doorway of the kitchen, I fumbled for the light switch. Soon my hand found the switch, and I flicked it.
"SURPRISE!!" A particular pink mare screamed, jumping out of no where, scaring me half to death.
Twilight jumped awake, nearly falling out of her bed.
Her hair was a mess, and she felt groggy. She rubbed the back of her head with a hoof as she said to herself, "Wow, what a strange dream."
A few hours later, she was happily organizing her books when the bell, announcing somepony entering, rang. An earth pony stallion walked in. Twilight glanced towards him, "Hi there, is there anything I can help you with?" She asked.
Twilight had never seen the pony in town before, but before she could inquire his name, he asked, "Sorry to intrude, but do you have any books on arcane sciences and ancient pony technologies?"
That almost made her day. She very rarely meets anypony GENUINELY interested in books. Nearly forgetting to ask his name, she set off to find all the books she had on the subject. While she did, she replied saying, "Of course we do! By the way, what is your name?"
He smiled and told her, "My name is Gizmo, and thanks!"
