Case "Sour" Sweet - 1 'The Bipolar Diva of Kindness and Terror?'
You, are Crystal Prep's most well known teenage investigator. Voted in the school's yearbook as most likely to become a famous detective. You've never turned down a case that's come across your desk in the Janitor's closet, ranging from the insanity to the down to earth. All without charging a single dime. Why would you? It's not like as if you could turn it into a living, anyway, there just wasn't enough money into it. But it was a chance for you to test your intelligence. Over the course of your many performed investigations, you've had to crack multitudes of cases with some that not even the likes of the famous Canterlot High Mane Seven could solve. You've cracked the hardest riddles, solved the most mind-boggling puzzles, and your skills in logic was put to the test.
There's never been anyone quite like you before in Crystal Prep's Yearbooks and you highly doubt there ever will be one again. Never the less, here you were once more in your makeshift Janitor's Closet Office looking through your multitude of files ranging from the solved back in Freshman Year to the most recently solved. A few weeks ago you just got done solving the mystery behind the disappearance of Indigo Zapp, a student that hadn't been seen since the day after Friendship Games and following nearly five weeks of absence you were called into action to put the mystery to bed. Needless to say, it was quite an adventure that sent you from CHS all the way to Camp Everfree and the Everfree Forest, filled with twists and turns, dead-end clues, misdirections, and even at one point a fight for your life against a humanoid creature wearing a white hood, jeans, black shoes, black gloves, and wearing a mask only to discover that it was no creature, but Indigo Zapp herself.
You still, to this day, can't believe it. It shouldn't have been possible because she attacked you like a rabid animal, she even snarled, growled, and moaned like one. After getting her to intensive care, she eventually explained her story, she and her family had been taken by a faceless creature in a suit that warped her mind into killing her family and turned her into that... thing... that attacked you. It should've been impossible to believe, but after witnessing first hand the events at the Friendship Games during the flag relay with Twilight turning into that creature, her story was just too hard to not believe it.
Ever since then you've been having reoccurring nightmares with a faceless creature taking you away and forcing you to kill your own family and becoming just like Indigo, but in your condition, more mentally unstable and more likely to kill. Admittedly, you weren't exactly the most stable individual either. Those events combined with your long period of being the go-to detective most Crystal Prep students went to for help, hasn't exactly helped your mental stability. You just had the feeling you could snap one day if someone were to push you the wrong way and send you into a frenzy that you feared you'd never be able to come back from.
Looking through the case file you slowly looked through all the pictures you took, all the notes you had written down, and even the clues that still alluded you. Indigo's Medical Files from when she was a kid. You had found those in the town sewer system following, what you had at the time believed, a lead that turned out to be a dead end with the only fruit you found out of doing it was the files. You still don't know how they even got there or what their main point of being there was. Her files history though raised eyebrows that lead to you keeping them. They were from the old abandoned mental hospital that burned down many years ago. And though some of the information had been redacted, you worked with what you had on hand, eventually leading you to the mental hospital, and then finally Camp Evrefree where you proceeded to solve the mystery. But the loose end of how her files got in the sewer was never tied up. You figured Indigo had to have been the one who did it, but why would she? At that point, she had lost control of herself from what you figured. You just wish you had found more clues, but there was no point to dwelling on it. You put away the folder and laid your head down on your desk to take a nap, when all of a sudden, you heard a knocking on the door.
"Come in," You said.
In came none other than Sugarcoat.
"Why'd you come here? Shouldn't you be in class?" You ask her as she sits down in the chair across from you.
"I should be asking you the same thing," Sugarcoat... deadpanned? You couldn't really tell with the fact her voice usually stayed more monotoned than Maud's sometimes.
"Heh. Touche," You replied jokingly, "Seriously, why'd you come here? Not many have ever since I cracked the case behind Indigo Zapp's Disappearance."
"Well... you know Sour Sweet, right?"
"You mean the bipolar diva of kindness and anger? Yeah, it's impossible NOT to know her. She's got more anger issues than a woman on her period,"
"Well... it's just that... something's been off with her recently ever since the Friendship Games,"
"In what way are you talking about? Because there's always been something off with her, I just don't see how anyone like her can stand being bipolar like that and not get treatment for it. I'd practically go insane with two different personalities going off of me like that,"
"Well... She's been acting rather weird when she's been around other boys lately, and I don't mean in the lovey-dovey kind of way, I mean in the way in that sometimes she just... stares at them..."
"That... is a bit strange, I'll give ya that much,"
"Not only that but she often recently seems to just stare at boys bathrooms for long periods of time as well, almost condescendingly,"
"Red flag," You reply sitting straight up in your chair in surprise.
"But more recently, like, I think, two to three days ago? She's had a tendency of just holding on to her lower section during anatomy class in biology... is that a red flag too?"
"Crimson," You stated, "So, you think she's hiding something and you want me to find it out, do ya? Why can't you and your friends find it out? You, Sunny Flare, Lemon Zest, and Indigo Zapp are closer to her more than anyone."
"Please, you have to help me and my friends! Sour Sweet's actions have us worried, and we've tried to get her to tell us but she just won't, she keeps dodging all of our questions, keeps trying to change the subject, and just yesterday ran away when we tried to confront her about it! You're our last hope to get her to talk, not even the school guidance counselor can get her to sing, and she can make anyone crack within forty-five minutes!"
"Damn... looks like Sour Sweet's gonna be one tough cookie to break, but nothing I can't handle. I've dealt with worse, I mean if I can make former Headmistress Cinch crack about her addiction to alcohol in just one day no less than a week after the Friendship Games then I certainly can make Sour Sweet talk,"
"Thank you so much," Sugarcoat replied as you stood up, put on your trench coat, hat, and badge, "Uh... pardon, but, where did you get those?"
"You'd be amazed at the advantages of having two cops as parents," You smirk as you head to the door, "You better take your leave Ms. Sugarcoat, don't wanna fall behind on your grades now do you?"
"Like you shouldn't as well?" Sugarcoat snarked as she got up.
"As long as my works picked up and finished by the morning I'm never gonna fall behind," You went as Sugarcoat started to leave.
"Whaaatever," Sugarcoat said before leaving, closing the door behind her.
As soon as you made sure she was gone you went back over to your desk and opened one of the drawers and pulled out your trust customized six shot revolver. Made specifically for tranquilizer rounds because you just didn't trust yourself with live ammunition. Loading it up and putting it in your side holster you left your office and headed out into the school. As long as there was the slimmest chance of danger, you made sure you were prepared for the absolute worst possible outcomes. Right now, you were on your way to the biology class that Sour Sweet went to, just quietly observing the halls and occasionally looking at the cameras and not taking your eyes off of them until you passed them. Reaching the faculty elevator, you used your personal janitor's key to open the door, closing and locking it behind you as you passed by it, and inside the elevator used your thumb to hit the third-floor button.
Once it reached the third floor, you stepped out and opened the faculty door, checking to make sure it was locked before leaving, heading off towards biology just in time to hear the bell ring. As the students came out one by one, a few of them gave you some strange looks, but you honestly didn't mind as you had become used to it over the course of your detective work. Eventually, through the chaos you reached biology class just in time to see Sour Sweet be the last to leave, giving her a quick look before heading up to the teacher, removing your hat out of politeness.
You introduced yourself as she introduced herself, you asked a few questions from her concerning Sour Sweet and while she did respond to some, she was more confused at best, which was the point you told her about the situation and she was rather quite shocked to learn about the recent developments concerning Sour Sweet. You asked her to see if she could possibly give any theories as to why she would be acting this way since the focus of this week's topic was anatomy after all. She gave a few theories like possibly reminiscing of her past life before gender reassignment therapy if she was a transgender, maybe had a recent transgender epiphany, or maybe even the possibility of her really being a boy in disguise. You thanked her for her help and headed out. Now you had three possible leads to work off of, all three having some possibilities, with maybe the slight exception of the boy in disguise one. That one maybe needed a little more proof before consideration.
Never the less, you headed off in search of Sour Sweet's closest friends, maybe they could help shed a little light on the situation a bit more.
