The Trials of the Gods
The First
Load Full StoryWhen one enters this place they are hit with the wonderful smell of both rotting and fresh bodies that scatter the floors. The blood and gore would over power most stomachs and destroy most minds with ever lasting scars. O our pour sinful hearts. What did any of us do to deserve this blur of existence. Every time we move a limb, screams intrude and hold our ability to hear captive tell we can end each others lives for a moment of peace. I found a place behind some rabble to catch a quick breath. Blood of everypony covers me from head to hoof. Mixing into every deadly poisons then plants themselves in my lifes veins with only the goal to kill me. The only way I can be cleansed of these creatures are to win the gods blessings and become their holy vindicator.
I began to wonder if the gods would approve of my cowardice choice to hid like a Foal as real stallions are killing each other right now. I grab my ax and shield and stood stalwart and faced my trial of endurance. Many had fell to my ax as I wanted to plead to the gods for strength to endure a little more tell it was over. I didn’t as I knew others were begging for strength and I will over come their strength all on my own. As I swung my ax into skulls I saw ponies I knew when I was little. Their blood also mixed into poisons that seek revenge. I chopped and chopped until my ax head had broken when I missed and hit a wall behind my target. He pleaded me to not kill him, even claimed that he was good friends with my father. That was a lie I didn’t have a father nor mother only the gods and my wits. I threw his head against the wall and took his concealed dagger from behind him and moved on to the next pony.
As I walked to the next room a had walked behind a mare that had just finished a fight with a stallion. She was exhausted, though not for long as I threw the dagger with all my force into the back of her skull. I think I saw her before the trials hugging her children for the vary last time. I picked up her dull sword and had marched to my next challenger. This one was a unicorn who started using magic to give him an edge in his fights. He saw me walk towards him his eyes widen and with hast quickly finished his opponent then his horn shot an magic arrow at me. It destroyed my shield as my sword destroyed his horn. He cried for mercy, but cheaters don’t get mercy in the trial of strength. Stupid unicorn should have stuck to his books like the rest of the weaklings. I tore, ripped, and dismembered him I then saw a miracle happen; a door appeared one which only I saw.
I still don’t fill guilt for what I did to the ones I exterminated as those insects were not worthy of the gods blessings. The door had led to a blank room enclosed on all four sides It had clean air, though a feeling of disappointment covers the room like thick chocking fog. The door closed behind me, then I could have swore I saw shadows form in the corner of my eyes, though it was just apart of my imagination for when I looked they where gone. I was perturbed by the deep voice that echoed threw out the room. It claimed to be one of the war gods, even naming itself and at that moment I knew I had become victim to an Illusion of that weakling unicorn.
“Your not a god. Your a weakling, a insect.” I had yelled with painful struggle as I could feel hands around my throat. I started to get my mind back at a rapid pace and plunged my sword in his neck.
Weaklings every single one. The gods of wisdom and Knowledge made unicorns to further advance society outside of the trials not to kill those whom is worthy of being their. This is why most that live in war cities are chained and forced to do work they were made for. The gods made the earth ponies for two purposes and we hold these with head held high. We were made to tend farms and for entertainment for what else are we meant for? Why are there more of us then other races? We are made to withstand the trials.
I stood up carefully as not to give someone an edge against me. I went back into the blood lusted hoard that I will end or be killed trying to.
I didn’t hid to catch a breath any more as the dying breath of my opponents gave me air and strength to keep fighting. I didn’t feel the same as when I stepped in this holy sanctum. Now I feel the God’s hands all over my body giving me ease as I slay those who are not strong enough to survive this trial of Endurance.
The sanctum was becoming less of a challenge now as many have fallen. All the stands is me and my strongest opponents. This room that had been full of ponies now lay bare of any life other then my own. The God’s never cared about honor among your dead enemies as many ponies would strip the dead of anything and everything, but I didn’t it’s not because I had a moral code I just didn’t. The army of Ponyville disagreed with me on that one sense the town lives next to the most dangerous forest; the army’s soldiers take everything from their enemies in order to give the FCC a fighting chance against the Timber Wolves.
As I take a couple of step into the closest door; I hear the faint muffled sounds of weeping to my right. I turned to find a mare crying into the chest of an older stallion. So I adjusted my grip on my hammer and moved towards her. I’ve seen this mare before her mane gave it away. Light crimson with pale grayish strips. She and I went to the same school it was Chiffon Swirl. I didn’t know who was the stallion until she started saying her goodbyes to the corpse.
“I love you Carrot with all my heart. I’ll never forget you or the memories we shar...” She stopped after hearing my hoof break the shaft of a spear. I slammed the hammer in her skull as she turned to me.
As I look around the room to see if any other threats were there. I saw no threats and moved to the next room where I heard fighting. There were two shielded fighters a earth stallion wielding a ax fighting a pegasus mare wielding a dagger. I quickly thought of taking down the pegasus first as it would be easy, but decided on the stallion as the mare was going to pass out due to exhaustion. I cracked his skull open with ease his skull caved in as blood covered both her and I. Her eyes didn’t widen as she gave in to her fate. She closed her eyes as she dropped her shield just to slit her wrist then throat. She wanted to go out a way most cowards do without true courage. As her body hit the floor large loud bells rang in the distance. As I moved to them I felt as if I were gliding on rolling fog. I came to the opened part of the sanctum where a coward stood high above us. With me stood twelve others waiting for a speech of our success, but are met with the most hated Pony.
The so called “War Matriarch” stands with her head up high as she looks at us. She’s a damn milksop as she hasn’t even step foot into the next trial. She's scared to die like her brother within the flames of the gods. She claims that she is only destined to “help those worthy prepare for what is next” like we don’t know what’s next. The apples on her flank show how soft and weak she really is and how fast the next trial would end her quickly. I only stand there so the rest of the church can recognize the next Holy Vindicator rise above all the trials.
Author's Note
Hello everyone. Im new to the website and new to writing as this is my favourite way of letting off steam by getting enveloped into my worlds. I now will share some of these worlds with you all.
This AU might be confusing but it is told through first person narrative and im not use to it, but I hope to get better with time.
I'll try to make new chapters on a regular basis.
