Pony Theories
Will Flurry Heart be Twilight Sparkle's Successor?
Load Full StoryNext ChapterYep, you read that right. Flurry Heart right off the bat. I've had some ideas ever since she was introduced, and they have progressed as the show went on. By now we all know how the show ends. Celestia and Luna retire, Twilight takes over the throne, yada yada yada.
Now, what happens when Twilight steps down from the throne, as she will inevitably do at some point? Thinking about it now, this also makes me think of one of The Brony Notion's theories about alicorns in general. In his video The Truth About Flurry Heart, he theorizes that Celestia and Luna are planning to return to a society of alicorns that they left during Discord's reign of chaos, and stayed in Equestria to help them rebuild their society. After Nightmare Moon's banishment, Celestia was stuck in Equestria for another thousand years, and then more disasters struck, so they stayed longer. Talk about some crappy luck. It seems no coincidence to me that, as Celestia says in the season nine premiere, Equestria is enjoying its longest period of harmony, and so now they step down. this fits too well with this theory, and it seems like they may be planning to return now, a very opportune time if you ask me. The land they have been protecting and ruling over for a millennium is finally at peace, a new ruler is ready to take over, taught by Celestia herself, and Twilight now has a protege. Oh yeah, there's also a genetic anomaly in the Crystal Empire that was born recently. The first truly natural alicorn. This is a big freaking deal. More on that later.
Now, what I'm thinking is that the rule of the royal sisters, and Twilight's future rule, are all unimportant. while some may say that Starlight will be Twilight's successor, I think she may eventually may be just ruling alongside her, as they are the same age. Remember, Celestia was thousands of years old when she took on a student and said student became an alicorn. Twilight and Starlight are same age. This may be irrelevant, but it would not be a good idea to leave Equestria in the hooves of someone the same age as you, as you are likely to pass on or retire at relatively similar times. A younger student is better. Even better than that is a student that is already an alicorn. What I'm thinking is that, after Starlight's possible transformation, she will take on the much younger Flurry Heart as a student. After Twilight's inevitable retirement, we are left with two options. Starlight, who is the same age and likely to retire soon anyways takes over, lasts a few years, and then Flurry takes over. OR Twilight retires, Starlight realizes that she is too old to rule, and her student, Flurry Heart, takes over for Twilight. In both scenarios, Flurry ends up ruling Equestria. Twilight may as well cut out the middle mare and have Flurry take over when she steps down.
This is where it's gonna get a little crazy, so bear with me. I think that Flurry would be a better ruler than any of the other princesses before her. There is substantial evidence to back this up, and logic would make her a better ruler as a whole, but let's start with some evidence. First, Flurry is the first even naturally born alicorn. Now, it's a well known fact that alicorns are considered immortal, correct? The topic of alicorn mortality as a whole is a subject for another time, but let me explain my thoughts here. Celestia was not born an alicorn, nor was Luna. They were changed into alicorns, as were Twilight and Cadence. They were born, they aged, they still age, though the Royal Sisters do so much slower. They are all mortal, they just have a much longer lifespan. Yes, I'm fully aware that Flurry was born like any other foal. But, she was different, as she was born an alicorn. This has never happened, in Equestria or the lands beyond. She is clearly special. I think that being born a supposedly immortal being may make one truly immortal. If Flurry is truly immortal, then she would be the perfect leader for Equestria. She will never die. She would age slightly, as all ponies do, but when she reaches adulthood, she will stop aging entirely.
Now, on to something a little easier to follow. Why is she not leader now? King Tutankhamen was leader of Ancient Egypt at age 10. having a young leader would be unusual, but not impractical. Innocence can be a very good quality in a leader, and who possesses more innocence than children? While waiting a few years would be a good idea, but once she can speak and comprehend language, she could be a ruler. She is also shown to possess very powerful magic, so she would be a good asset in a battle. I think the main reason she is not ruler now, among other things, is destiny. She may be destined to be Equestria's true leader, probably a permanent ruler, but so is Twilight. Destiny must be upheld, and breaking destiny is never good, but, again, a topic for another day. If Twilight doesn't fulfill her ultimate destiny, then who knows what the consequences could be? When Starlight broke destiny in The Cutie Remark, Equestria was practically destroyed. It was saved only when Twilight helped her realize that she was wrong. Discord started out evil, and his destiny almost destroyed Equestria, which was saved when The Mane Six reformed him, fulfilling his true destiny as one of Equestria's greatest, however annoying, ally. Destiny, when upheld, seems to keep Equestria safe, no matter how hard or bad things seems to be. Twilight must run her course before Flurry takes over, to keep the land safe.
I think I'll end this here, because if I tried to write down all of my thoughts, you'd be here for days reading this. Please, leave your thoughts in the comments, and I'll answer questions and tie up loose ends as best as I can. Thanks for reading!
