Chapter 1 | Uninvited.

My name is Connor Aston if your somehow a human reading this then your probably wondering where I am. well, it's better off if I just tell you my story. It all started on a dull winter Friday, in an ordinary house, in an ordinary British neighbourhood. I had just finished work and my house was fairly well kept, so I had decided to sleep for the rest of the evening. I soon woke from my sleep by a few short but loud thumps to my front door. I groaned and I glanced over to my bedside table to view my alarm clock that read, '9:44 pm'.

"You've got to be joking me. Who'd be knocking at this hour?" I asked nobody in particular as I stumbled out of bed. I then yawned with a stretch before making my way downstairs still outfitted in the clothes I had used for work. When I arrived at the front door I could faintly make out a creature through the glass that was unlike any I'd ever seen. From where it stood, it seemed to be the height to the handle of the door. I would have called it some kind of horse, but there were some noticeable exceptions. The muzzle was too small, the eyes too large and too far forward, the head too round, the torso too compact, and the legs too short and stocky. Also, the mane, tail and fur were varying shades of purple, and there was a single spiralling horn coming out of the creature's forehead.

To my understanding, such a thing did not exist on Earth so I was lead to consider this was a dream or a hallucination. So I spun around so that I could go back upstairs to go to bed so that I could forget what I had just seen but suddenly the handle on the door began to shine violet and move whilst this 'hallucination' tapped on the glass impatiently with its front hoof. I then noticed its horn was also shining with the same violet hue.

I then sighed as I realized it must've noticed me even if I was still somewhat hidden in the darkness. But I suddenly froze when it spoke.

"Hey!! You! Could I come in?" It said into the letterbox. "It's cold out here!!"

(It talks?) I thought. (Of course, it talks. It's a psychic purple unicorn that just used it's mind to attempt to open my door. Why wouldn't it talk?) By this point, I was convinced that I was in the grip of a powerful hallucination. The only question was what had caused it. But I didn't get time to think of a cause when suddenly the keyhole of the door begun to glow with the same violet hue and the sound of the door unlocking was heard. The door then swayed open and the creature walked in uninvited whilst letting large amounts of snow to flutter inside. It walked up to me and it closed the door behind it. By now I had already seen its wings on it's back leading me to confirm this really was a hallucination of a magical creature.

"What the hell are you?" I finally asked as it began to study me.

"Uhh me? Well, I'm Twilight Sparkle, I run a school in --"

"No, no, no. I meant WHAT are you? We'll get to who later." I interrupted.

"Oh. Right. Sorry." Twilight grinned sheepishly. "I'm an alicorn princess, one of the four princesses that rule Equestria."

I nodded. "Okay then 'princess', what's Equestria?" I really wasn't convinced it was a princess since it didn't wear anything royalty would wear, to be honest, it didn't wear anything at all, other than the layer of snow on its fur, mane and tail.

"If we're going to do this," Twilight asked, frowning, "could I have a seat? It sounds like there's a lot I need to explain."

"And you can start with the explanation for you coming in uninvited," I added before it grins sheepishly again.

"Sorry about that..." Twilight said.

"Well, it's okay. It's too late now. Come on." I said before leading Twilight to my front room. I didn't really know what to do so I rolled with this so-called hallucination for now. I then turned on some lights and I turned up the heating before sitting on the couch opposite where Twilight was sat.

Twilight looks around before finally looking back at me. "So, anyway. Equestria is a nation of ponies like me, in a world very similar to this one, but in a different... position."

"Position? You mean outer space?" I asked Twilight while scratching my chin.

"Mm... yes... and no." Twilight tapped a hoof on its chin. "You know how there are three ways you can move around: left and right, up and down, and back and forth?"

"Uhh... Don't you mean the three dimensions?" I asked while recalling my science lessons back in college and high school.

Twilight's eyes lit up. "Dimensions! That's the word. Thank you. Well, some of my books discussed other dimensions, ones we can't see, and how it's possible to move along those dimensions to reach other places -- whole other worlds. And depending on how far you go, they could be almost alike or completely different."

"Aren't you talking about parallel universes?" I asked before looking at her for a reply.

"You have a word for them?" it asked. "So you know what I'm talking about?"

"Well, yes, but around here they're something you only read about in fictional stories. They're not supposed to be real."

Twilight giggled. "Yet here I am. If you'd like, when I rest up, I can give you a demonstration and take you with me back to Equestria."

"Hm... No thanks. I like my life as it is, I wouldn't like to lose my current job." I said casually. "But how exactly did you manage to get here from... wherever Equestria is?"

"That was the difficult part," it said. "I spent months analyzing teleportation spells to discover a way they could be adapted to those hidden dimensions. After I finally found a way to make the trip, I had to memorize other spells to prepare myself for whatever was on the other side. There was Home Away From Home, for if I landed someplace I couldn't survive. And if I needed to blend in, I can--"

"Hang on a second." I held up a hand to stop Twilight. "Spells?" It had said the word so casually that it didn't register as unusual at first. "As in magic?"

"Of course. What other kinds of spells are there?" it asked.

"Okay, this is the part where I say you're screwing with me," I said as I crossed my arms, "because magic is not a thing that exists. Not in this universe, anyway. Maybe things are different in your freaky dimension."

"That... doesn't make sense," Twilight said sceptically. "Remember when I opened your door?" I nodded. "Well, that was magic."

"Okay, I get it. Still, magic or otherwise, we don't have the ability to teleport across universes." I replied.

Twilight pondered my words before saying, "I'm curious to learn more about this world, about you. Who are you? What are you? Where am I?"

"Fair enough. In no particular order," by which I meant the exact order it asked those questions, "the name is Connor Aston -- or just Connor is fine. I'm a human, officially known as Homo sapiens. If you have monkeys on your world, we're very closely related to those. And right now you're in the United Kingdom."

Twilight nodded at my answers. "Okay. Am I right to think that you humans are the dominant race in the United Kingdom?"

I snickered. "We're the dominant race pretty much everywhere. In fact, we're the only species to have developed any sort of civilization. I take it that's not the case where you come from?"

"Not even close," it said. "In addition to the ponies of Equestria, there are nations of donkeys, zebras, buffalo, dogs, cats, bears, griffons, dragons,..."

"Thank you. I didn't need you to elaborate." (Wait, they have griffons and dragons too? Hell, why not? Maybe instead of humans, they have elves and fairies.) I thought.

"Sorry." Twilight peered closely at me. "By the way, I hope you can forgive me for asking but are you a male human or a female human?"

I was vaguely insulted by the question until I realized that I would need to ask Twilight the same thing. "Uh... male. You can usually tell the females by the, uh, pair of mammaries they have up here at the breast. In fact, that's what we call them: 'breasts.' Well, among other things. Anyway, which one are you?"

Now was its turn to be vaguely insulted. "Female, obviously. Not as obviously as I thought, but since I'm not wearing any clothes right now, I figured you'd be able to..."

"The day I start looking at horse genitalia to sate my curiosity is the day I kill myself," I said to it -- to her. Come to think of it, Twilight's voice was fairly feminine by human standards, but I had wanted to avoid making any assumptions about her.

"Pony genitalia," she corrected. "Do you consider those parts ugly? Is that why you've covered your own?"

"No-- I mean... I don't know. We, humans, cover those part because it's inappropriate to be nude whilst out and about." I replied.

"Interesting," Twilight said before scratching her chin.

"Oh. By the way. Why DID you want my help?" I asked while recalling to what she told me through the front door moments ago.

"Oh yeah, about that. Well... with the whole of me going to your dimension thing. It left me rather... drained... I might need a place to stay until I recover." Twilight replied before grinning sheepishly.

"I see. Well, you can sleep on the couch if you want. I don't have another bed or bedroom." I said before getting up while just wanting to go back to sleep to end this mysterious hallucination.

"Okay, seems fair since I did come in unannounced." She replied with an awkward giggle before she began to stretch with a yawn.

"And uninvited," I added again before chuckling whilst I looked through the drawers for a spare pillow and blanket Twilight could use. "But it's... alright. Just get some rest."

She then nodded before smiling, "Thanks, Connor." She said before laying down on the couch. I then gave her the blanket and pillow that was much big enough for her. I then began to leave when she said, "Sweets dreams."

I felt flattered at Twilight's response since it was a long time since I was said that. I smiled, "You too." I said before heading back to my room to go back to sleep.

Apart of me was hoping this was a dream of some sorts that was so lucid that I conjured up an unrealistic magical pony, whilst the other part of me was hoping it was real. I don't know why I hoped she was real but it's probably because she reminded of my little sister who passed away whilst in birth. Either way, I will find out tomorrow. Good night Twilight... Sweet dreams.
