Victory over the light.
Chapter [8] Tempus narrabo.
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt had been nearly half a year since Nightmare Moon took over. Dawn Lighter was starting to get bored reading the same book repeatedly. The Book of Prophecies and Predictions would not budge any secrets that it might have still hidden. She grew anxious for something exciting to happen. So when Queen Nightmare Moon requested her presents, Dawn lighter was eager to comply.
“The nobles and commoners wish that I bring the moon down or make some way to measure time. I have elected that, in order to have time pass, the moon shall rise in the east, and set in the west. It being ‘full’ during the day, and ‘empty’ during the night. I need your help. What I need you to do is help me cast a spell that not only makes the moon do these rotations by itself, but also have it during the ‘full’ period give a warmth to the kingdom. This way, all the wildlife can have a little more sustainability.” Said Nightmare Moon.
“A wonderful idea, I have been itching to use the new spells that I have found, and this will be a good basis to understand my limits. When should we start?” Said DL.
“In two hours, for right now, I will announce to the nobles my plans. This should finally have me at peace, as I have fulfilled most of their requests.” Said Nightmare Moon.
Meanwhile, for those that were starting a rebellion. They had been going over the plan of infiltration. Moon Blue had acquired a blueprint of the castle and had been going over the layout with Flutter Moon.
“The secret room may not be on the schematic, but from what Moon Melody said, it shouldn’t be too hard to locate, as well as access. We need you to sneak in and get to the library. There, just get into the secret library, look for the book, get it, and get out. Nightmare Moon and Dawn Lighter just made an announcement to the nobles that they plan on doing something with the moon. So that should give us plenty of time for our heist.” Said Moon Blue.
“What if something goes wrong?” Asked Flutter Moon.
“Nothing should go wrong, as long as you don’t take too long to find the book. If you feel like something is wrong, just get out as fast as you can. We should have an agent on guard near the outside of the library if anything comes up. Somepony you know and can trust.” Said Moon Blue.
“And what if I get caught? Should I lie? What if they hurt me?” Said Flutter Moon.
“If you get caught just say you stumbled into the room by accident and got curious to where it would lead. Our scouts have informed us that the Queen has placed some kind of guard. However, we have no clue who they might be, or what they might be for that matter.” Said Moon Blue. “As to whether they hurt you, you are innocent until proven guilty. So just relax, stay quiet, get in and out with the book, and above all else do not-” but before Moon Blue could finish, Shining Moon came bursting in.
“Queen Nightmare Moon has addressed to the nobles that she plans on not only have the moon move through the sky, but also have it give warmth throughout the ‘day.’ This is great news!” Said Shining Moon.
“It is indeed. Flutter Moon, I believe our business is complete. You know your task, do it dutifully and do it tonight. And what I was going to say before I was interrupted was whatever you do, do not get distracted. You may go now, Shining Moon and I have some business to attend to with some potential allies of the earth pony race, farmers and such.” Said Moon Blue, dismissing Flutter Moon.
Nightmare Moon was on one of the balconies that surveyed the kingdom, watching the night sky with a glazed look. With a knock Dawn Lighter entered inter her presence and waited for Nightmare Moon to acknowledge her. “Come, sit next to me Dawn Lighter.” She said. “After we finish this spell, I believe we will bring peace to this land. I long for the night now, and I wish to sleep. So, I will be giving you most of my power. You will be representing me on any matter that may come up.”
“It will be an honor, my Queen.” Said DL.
“Come, it is time for our subjects to be able to experience the moon to a fuller extent. You are aware of the spell that I gave you?” Said Nightmare Moon.
“Yes. These two spells should do what the books said they would. Which one will we do first?” Said DL.
“First we will set in motion the moon, then we will make it give warmth throughout its light cycle.” Said Nightmare Moon. “Now then, link up with me, as I start the spell.”
Both closing their eyes, Dawn Lighter connected with the equilibrium of Nightmare Moon’s magic and they both swayed as she strengthened the spell. As Nightmare Moon was putting the final touches of magic on the spell, DL felt the familiar tug as magic was being taken out. With a final hymn from Nightmare Moon, the Queen finished the spell, and sent it, flying through the night air, upwards and onto the moon. They both gazed in wonder as the moon started to move on its own, without any tether to anyone.
“Well done, before we make haste to cast another grand spell, I believe we should rest for thirty minutes. GUARDS!” Shouted Nightmare Moon and two hooded guards entered. DL grew interested in these new guards that Nightmare Moon had somehow conjured up.
“What race are these from, and what do you call them?” She wondered.
“I do not know for certain the race, but it is close enough to our own to be able to pass as my guards. As to what I call them, I just named them as a very self-explanatory ‘hooded ones.’ They have been proven to be quite useful. Both as guards and as troops in case of any war that may arise. They are made from some shadow substance, but still have enough mass to wear armor and such.” Said Nightmare Moon.
“How interesting, who knows about these things exist?” Asked DL.
“I have them stationed in certain areas that are strategic points among the castle, but they relish staying in the dark. Few have set eyes on them, and fewer still believe that they are real, the rest think it’s just a trick of the light. They blend quite well into the background. If anything comes up, I have full confidence that they will deal with any situation.” Said Nightmare Moon.
“Ah yes, but how did you get them?” Said DL.
“They came from one of the same books that I have used for summoning in the past. One of the books I believe I have already told you about. In fact, after we are done with this second spell, why don’t you head over to the restricted area and study up on the summoning. There are quite a few creatures in that book that, if you can control them, can be very powerful and useful.” Said Nightmare Moon.
Realizing that she had not given any command to the guards, she quickly sent them away to fetch something to drink for the two of them. As they waited for the refreshments, Nightmare Moon conjured two chairs for them to sit in.
“Do you remember the moon?” Said DL as they both sat.
“How could I forget. All those voices and spirits trapped there.” Said Nightmare Moon.
“Do you think Senti-” But before DL could finish, Nightmare Moon interrupted her.
“If I want his presence here, I would get a body for him to manifest in, just like I had done for you Anima. Remember, you were the most faithful spirit, and that is why I chose you first. If you are not enough, then I will bring him here. But for now, I do not want to have too many spirits wandering freely here. There was a reason Celestia had banished you there.” Said Nightmare Moon. That was the moment when the guards returned and brought refreshments.
After they had finished their drinks, Nightmare told Dawn Lighter that it was time for the second spell to take hold onto the moon. As they returned once again to the balcony, they could already see their previous work in effect. As Dawn Lighter sidled up next to Nightmare Moon, they once again closed their eyes in unison, and she linked up with the equilibrium of Nightmare Moon and they both started swaying.
Once again, Dawn Lighter felt the tugging as she felt to magic relinquish from her, and Nightmare Moon sent the spell also into the night air, but this time, instead of going onto the moon, the spell infused itself into the moon, causing it to send waves of warmth throughout the land.
As they both opened their eyes, Nightmare Moon smiled. It had been a long time since Nightmare Moon had generally been happy, and this was going to be one of those moments. Turning to DL, she said, “now that all the spells have been completed, I believe I can rest in peace, basking in the glow of our accomplishment.”
“As for me, I will go study up on that spell book of summoning. Sleep well, my Queen.” Said DL, as she left the room. Her walk was also chipped with excitement at the prospect of what they had just completed.
