Captain Clopper opened his door. His mane was beyond messy, and his eyes had bags under them. He wanted to pass out then and there, but couldn't. He needed to feed his son. "I'm home!" He yelled, his voice a bit raspy. He heard running before his son jumped onto him, hugging him.
"Hi dad!" The black furred, red maned foal said excitedly. Clopper ruffled his mane with a hoof.
"Hey squirt. Ready to go?" The foal nodded and turned to show the saddlebags on him. Clopper walked to the fridge, opened it, and pulled out a well-packed lunch. He levitated it to the foal and smiled. "Wake me up when you get home, it's Friday!" The foal smiled widely and ran out, closing the door behind him. Clopper stumbled into his and his son's room, collapsing on the layered blankets on the floor they slept on. Just as he was about to fall asleep, someone knocked on his door. Getting up, he walked to the door, and opened it. "What?" He asked.
"Captain Raven Von Blackburner Clopper?"
"Yes, that's me."
"Princess Luna has requested your presence tonight." He felt a huge spike of anger, but kept it down.
"I'll be there." He said, and closed the door. He went back to bed and fell asleep...
Clopper woke up, trying to hit the snooze button on his alarm, but heard an 'oof' when he did so. He found that odd, and looked at his alarm, but saw his son. His eyes snapped open and he shot up. He pulled his son into a hug. "Are you okay? Did I hurt you?" He asked almost frantically. His son rolled his eyes.
"I'm fine, dad! It was a tap on the noggin!" Clopper sighed in relief, and got up.
"I have to meet a someone tonight, so I'll cook now." Clopper went to the kitchen and began to cook spaghetti and a tuna sandwich. His son followed him.
"Who are you meeting?"
"Princess Luna."
"Ooooh, she's pretty!" Clopper nodded.
"She is, I suppose. I'm making you supper now so I can cancel my work for tonight." 10 minutes passed, Clopper hearing about his son's day. After serving the food, Clopper took a sandwich for himself and left, saying goodbye. He sighed once he closed the door. "I can't wait to hear from that bitch." He grumbled, and walked to his work at the whorehouse. While walking there, one of his colleagues started walking beside him.
"Hey!" Clopper nodded to confirm her presence. "You okay?" She said softly.
"No. Luna wants me to meet her." She nodded.
"Damn, that sucks. Why do you think so?"
"Probably to claim my son. I'd give her custody, he deserves better than his piece of shit father." The mare shushed him, draping a wing over his midsection. They entered the whorehouse they worked at, and sat on one of the couches in the lobby. Clopper being sobbing, the mare rubbing his back.
"You're better then your father, don't compare himself to you." Clopper buried his face in his hooves and began to cry. The mare pulled him into a hug, allowing him to cry into her chest fur while desperately clinging to her. The owner of the whorehouse walked into the room, and her eyes widened.
"What's wrong, hon?" She asked Circuit Breaker, the mare that was holding Clopper.
"Luna wants to see him." The owner nodded.
"Captain Clopper?" He looked at her, his eyes bloodshot. "I'll cancel your shift for tonight for you. I hope the meeting goes well." He nodded, and continued to be held by Breaker.
He left later, thanking Breaker, and going to the castle.
Captain Clopper walked through the throne room doors and bowed, before looking up with narrowed eyes at Princess Luna, who was sitting on her throne. "Hello, Captain Clopper." She said in a curt tone.
"Why am I here?" Clopper asked immediately. "I have a foal to look after, you of all ponies should know that." She frowned.
"I'm honestly surprised you haven't put him up for adoption." Clopper scoffed.
"Well I wanted to try to be an actual father, so excuse me for trying." He had a sarcastic tone to his voice.
"Well, the fact you still have him, this will make this far easier." She levitated a scroll to him. Breaking the seal, he opened it and read it. "Now if you could just sig-"
"I need a quill." Luna looked surprised.
"What?"
"Gimmie a quill, I'm going to sign this custody form."
"I expected you to object." He scoffed.
"Any good father would want their foal to have an at least decent life." A Guard gave him a quill and he put on signature.
"Excellent." Luna said, taking the form. "When will be suitable to pick him up?"
"After school." Clopper said, already walking out. "It's Friday, and that gives me time to explain to explain what's gonna happen to him." Luna merely nodded and he was gone.
A day later...
Raven Crowbar entered his house, only to his his dad packing a small bag, all of his things. "Dad?" He said, Clopper looking up at him.
"Hey son." He sighed sadly. "You know how I always said: 'Eventually your life will improve.'?"
"Yeah?"
"You're going to move in with your mother." Raven was confused. He had a mom? "It's Princess Luna." He was beyond shocked.
"PRINCESS LUNA IS MY MOM!!!???" Clopper nodded.
"Yeah, I signed some custody papers, the Guards should be here soon to pick you up." Raven was surprised. He liked Princess Luna, but he didn't want to leave his dad!
"Wait, what?! I don't want to leave you!"
"Well, you are. I'm sorry.." He grabbed his son and pulled him into a hug. "I'm so...so sorry..." He holds him tightly. "I just want you to be happy..." His voice drifted off into but a whisper. "Is it too much to ask?" Raven hugs him back.
"NO!" He cries. "It is enough to ask! Please don't be sad!" Clopper smiled sadly at patted him on the head.
"Thank you. I'm sorry for abandoning you like this, but you have no future here. There, you do, and that's all I want...the Guards should be here soon." As soon as he finished that sentence, a sharp rap on his door presented the inevitable. Clopper released his son, who grabbed the saddlebags filled with his few possessions. Clopper opened the door.
"Captain Clopper." One of the two Guards said. "We are here to pick up Luna's son." Clopper nodded, and after another hug and goodbyes, his son left with a last glance to his dad. The door closed...and Captain Clopper sunk to the floor, once again burying his face in his hoofs and crying.
But there was a mere speck of hope under the sadness...
That his son would have a life away from the shithole he calls his.
