//-------------------------------------------------------// The Dragon-Ape -by Emperor Wolfgang- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue: Mysterious Book //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue: Mysterious Book Celestia's Sun rises into the sky overlooking a little town called Ponyville. The ponies woke up to start their day, or open up shop for those who ran businesses and school for young colts and fillies. At the Castle of Friendship, a young purple dragon by the name of Spike, was already up making breakfast for his big-sister figure/best friend and the Princess of Friendship, Twilight Sparkle. Pinkie had recently set up a surprise birthday party for her sister, Maud. Though she wanted a small party with just her, Pinkie, and her coltfriend, Mudbriar. So the rest of Ponyville had the party with a cardboard cutout of Maud. Meanwhile Pinkie, Maud, and Mudbriar watched the festivities from the hills under the shade of a tree. In the end, it was a great day for everyone. An audible yawn sounded from the doorway as Twilight walked into the room. She looked at Spike and smiled "Morning Spike." "Goood morning Twilight, sleep well?" "Yeah, I'm just still getting use to my new duties as the principal of the School of Friendship but I'm managing." Twilight said happily. Spike nodded and said while putting the pancakes he was making on the table "Breakfast is served Twilight. Bon appetit." he said dishing himself a plate as well and digging in, followed by Twilight. If your wondering where Starlight is, she's with Trixie helping her on a performance she's has going on in Manehattan and they won't be back for at least a week. As they ate their breakfast, Twilight spoke "By the way Spike do you know what today is?" Twilight asked with a grin. Spike swallowed his pancakes and answered "Another day at the School of Friendship?" "Well yes there's that, but it's also reshelving day here at the Castle!" Spike almost choked when she said that, but he swallowed and said "WHAT!? Didn't we just reshelf the castle library last month?" "Yes Spike, but that's just it: Last Month. It's a new month so it's time for a new shelving system." She said excitedly. Spike sighed and uttered "Only you would get excited over something as simple as reshelving, Twilight. Alright, how are we organizing them this time?" Spike would regret asking that question, for Twilight's answer made his pupils shrink. "We Spike, are organizing them by the amount of characters that are in the book. That means every letter, number, period, question mark, etc. The more characters in the book, the further and deeper into the library it will be!" Twilight said excitedly. Spike had stopped listening after 'organizing them by the amount of characters that are in the book'. EVERY character in the book! There are probably over 100,000 books in the castle library, and to count every character between their pages... They'd be there all day and maybe all night! Sigh, this is going to be a loooong day. Oh Spike, if only you knew... Twilight and Spike finished their breakfast in silence and after they were done, Twilight left to go get ready for the school day and Spike cleaned up the dishes before leaving to get ready for the school day as well. He is Principle Twilight Sparkle's executive assistant after all. At the School of Friendship... Hours later at the School of Friendship, Twilight was in her office doing some paperwork and Spike was busy filing the paperwork she had already completed. Twilight was currently looking over a student's registration form when she got a knock on her door. "Come in!" Twilight said. From the door appeared Ocellus, a student at the School of Friendship representing the Changelings. She had her saddlebags on as well. "Hello Ocellus, what can I do for you?" Twilight asked kindly. Ocellus, being her shy self, replied shyly "Um, hello Principle Twilight, sorry if I'm bothering you." "Oh no, no, Ocellus, your fine. How can I help you?" Twilight asked. "Um, it's not something I need help with per se, but rather I came here to bring you a book I found in the school library that I thought you should look at." Ocellus said grabbing the book from her saddlebag. The cover was banana yellow and had the words "History of the KONGS" on it and it's pages were a light yellow. Twilight took the book from Ocellus with her magic and gently brought it over to her desk before magically setting her paperwork aside in a neat little stack and setting it down in front of her and opening it's pages. Spike was still filing the finished paperwork but he was listening in on the conversation as Ocellus spoke to Twilight saying "I was in the library looking for a book on the History of Equestria when I saw this yellow book on the shelf and it had caught my attention. So I took it out and began reading. It spoke of creatures and races that I had never heard of but looked similar to animals that could be found in and around Equestria. Kongs, Kremlings, Neckies, Zingers, Tikis, Gnawtys, Snowmads. And locations that aren't on any maps like "Crocodile Isle, The Northern Kremisphere, and Kongo Bongo." Ocellus explained, presenting her analysis of the book. "Well, I'm just as lost as you now, because I've never heard of these terms either. Did you use the search spell enchanted books we have set up?" Twilight asked. "Yes, and this book isn't even registered into the school library. I don't think this book even exists on shelves because for one, there's no author and two, I also used the book to do a worldwide search for it but this book doesn't seem to exist." Ocellus exclaimed. Twilight put a hoof to her chin in thought. "This might be a book from an age long forgotten and that's why you can't find it. Hmm... I'll study it today after the school is out. You're welcome to come over to the castle and study it with me if you want." she said with a smile. Ocellus smiled and said "Thank you, Ms. Sparkle but I have a study session with my friends after school is over." Twilight nodded in understanding and Ocellus left so she can get back to class. Twilight set the book aside and went back to doing her paperwork. "Looks like reshelving the library will have to be postponed, I want to study this book!" she said. 'Thank Celestia!' Spike thought happily to himself. He really didn't want to count every individual character in 1000+ page books. "So any idea what the book is about? Or where it came from?" Spike asked. "None Spike, but I'm determined to find out!" Twilight declared. And with that they got back to work. Twilight bringing her paperwork back in front of her and Spike continued filing the paperwork. Twilight had no classes today so after school ended she, with Spike on her back, flew back to the castle with the book in her saddlebag. With his chores done for the day, Spike was now reading one of his Power Pony comics and Twilight was reading the "History of the KONGS" book that Ocellus had found. While reading, Twilight found something that caught her interest. A whole section on spells. Particularly she was looking at a teleportation spell that according to the book could open a bridge to the world the book describes. Reading over the instructions, Twilight looked towards Spike and asked a peculiar question: "Spike, how many bananas do we have in the kitchen?" Spike looked up from his comic and raised an eyebrow in curious confusion. "Last I checked we had about two bunches of fresh bananas. Why?" "Because I'm looking at a spell I want to try and according to the instructions, it requires one hundred bananas split up in groups of ten arranged in a circle around the caster. So I was wondering if you could go get them?" Twilight asked. 'What kind of spell requires that many bananas?' "Alright I'll get them" Spike said putting down his Power Pony comic and getting up to get the bananas. Ten minutes later, Spike returned to Twilight with the bananas. "I hope you realize, Twilight, that there isn't enough bananas for this spell." Spike said plainly. "That's alright, I know a duplication spell." Twilight said with a smile. "Will this spell work with magically crafted bananas?" Spike asked. "The duplicates are just as real as the original, there's no reason as to why it shouldn't work." Twilight said knowingly. Spike put down the bananas and Twilight activated her horn and surrounded the bananas in a purple aura and magically created the rest of the bananas required for the spell. Following the spell she grouped the bananas together in bunches of ten in a circle around her. "So what is this spell supposed to do?" Spike asked. "If casted correctly, it could open a bridge to the world described in the book. Just imagine Spike, a whole new world, with a whole different history, and new things to learn!" Twilight exclaimed excitedly. Spike, perked up immediately and asked "Really?! A bridge to another world?!" he asked excitedly. Twilight rolled her eyes at her best friend's reaction and replied "Yes, and it's only for studying purposes and learning, not for fun." Twilight said. Spike huffed as she gathered her concentration into her horn a familiar purple aura surrounded it and then the ten bunches of bananas. Just as she was about to finish the spell the door to the room burst open rather loudly as a hyperactive and bubbly voice exclaimed "HI MS. SPARKLE!!" shouted Silverstream, a hippogriff from Seaquestria and another student at the School of Friendship. Right behind her were her friends, Sandbar, Smolder, Yona, Ocellus, & Gallus. However, Silverstream's sudden shout of greeting broke Twilight's concentration and made her jump in alarm. And then everything went haywire... The spell instead of being concentrated into one place like it was supposed to, shot out of Twilight's horn instead and started ricocheting around the room. Everyone present ducked for cover to avoid getting hit by the rogue spell that did who knows what. Twilight stood in front of the Young Six and made a shield around her and them to protect them from the spell. A certain purple dragon however, wasn't so lucky and got hit by the rogue spell and then... everything exploded, forcing everycreature to shield their eyes. BOOM! When the light dissipated everycreature uncovered their eyes. "Is Everycreature okay?" Twilight asked worriedly. "Y-Yes" said Ocellus nervously. "Yep" said Silverstream frightened. "Yes" said Sandbar in fear. "Yona okay" Yona uttered. "I wasn't scared" said Smolder. "Me neither" said Gallus. "…." no reply "Great everycreature is safe and accouted fo- WAIT! I didn't hear anything from Spike! Spike! Can you hear me?!" Twilight shouted. No response. "Spike! Spike!" Twilight shouted in complete panic mode now. Twilight looked over to the Young Six and ordered "Everycreature, fan out and find Spike!" she exclaimed franticly. So then the Young Six and Twilight fanned out around the room to find Spike. They searched under every nook and cranny but couldn't find him anywhere. Then Ocellus noticed the open book on the table and saw it was the one she had brought Twilight earlier on in the day. She walked over to it and looked over the page it was open to, and read the spell Twilight had read. She examined the room in front of her and noticed ten bunches of burnt bananas arranged in a circle around the room. She stood there in thought about what had happened, and then... it hit her! They had broken Twilight's concentration in the middle of a spell and the magical shot that fired hit Spike while it was ricocheting around the room. If the purpose of the spell is correct then the spell DID work... just not as intended. Then realization hit her: They just sent Spike to this other world. Spike groaned in pain as he noted that his back hurt. He must have fallen from a great height. Then he opened his eyes and then quickly shielded them with his furry arm as the sun was really bright. ...Wait. Furry arm? Spike opened his eyes completely in alarm and sat up and gave himself a quick once-over. He was skinny and was covered in light purple fur that covered his arms and legs as well. His claws which were a deep purple now, but they looked like monkey paws now. Spike also took notice that he was now wearing a green hoody like humans wore in the human-world. He looked behind him and saw that his tail still looked the same but his spines looked more furry now then scaly. Looking beyond his tail he saw that there was a nearby lake and he ran over to it so he could see his face. The face he saw was not his usual draconic face but a more primate-like face. His head was covered in messy green hair and his eyes weren't reptilian like they normally were, they were more rounded and more human-like. Another thing he noticed was that he had monkey-like ears. Taking a look around him, Spike saw that he was in a jungle of some sort. Only one sentence could sum up what he was thinking at this very moment. "What in the name of Celestia is going on!?" the dragon-turned monkey shouted. Meanwhile in an unknown location... "Twilight, forgive me." said a voice. Author's Note The prologue is finally done. I've wanted to do this story for years now, but I kept putting it off to the side. It's only thanks to Lucar's story "A Sweetie Dreamland" that I recently picked back up on this idea. Thanks to it, I was able to get a clear idea of what I want to do for this story, and make a plot that I really like. And man! This story evolved over the years from when I originally conceived it. Originally I was going to have the Mane Six & Spike get sent to the Donkey Kong world and it was just going to be Returns, Tropical Freeze and an original adventure I had planned. Then I decided to cut out the Mane Six and make it just be Spike that was sent to another world. Around this time, Season Six had just wrapped up, and I started working on the prologue now that I had a Fimfiction Account. Then I stopped working on it for awhile. Then we enter 2019, and I stumble across Lucar's "A Sweetie Dreamland". I didn't think much of it at first, but I read it, and it immediately went to my favorite's list! (You should read it. It's really good!) Not to many days later I went back to this story and changed the prologue I had originally to what it is now. And instead of just doing Returns, Tropical Freeze, and an original adventure; I'm going to do the original 3 country games, 64, the DK games, Jungle Beat, Returns, Tropical Freeze, 4 original adventures (this may be subject to change), and a certain game that Donkey Kong guest starred in. So like Lucar, I'm going through a ton of games. I may not be as frequent as him, but I plan on seeing this story through to the endgame. And with all that out of the way, time to get started. Until next time! This is Emperor Wolfgang Sighing out! AROOOOOO! //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter-1: Welcome to Kongo Bongo //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter-1: Welcome to Kongo Bongo "DONKEY KONG!!" yelled a cranky old voice. A big brown gorilla with a red tie with the initials "DK" in yellow, jumped out of his hammock in alarm from the sudden shout from outside of his treehouse. Donkey Kong quickly got up and opened the door to his treehouse and looked down below to see his grandfather, Cranky Kong. Also known as Donkey "Cranky" Kong Sr., Cranky Kong is an elderly Kong that wears a grey vest and has a long white beard and a small set of black glasses on his face. He also has a brown walking stick. Cranky looked up at Donkey with a scowl on his face as he tapped his foot impatiently. DK sighed "What I do now Cranky?" "Nothing yet, but I've got a job for you so get down here!" Cranky yelled impatiently. DK leapt off the edge of the terrace of his treehouse and landed on his feet in front of Cranky. "What can I do for you Cranky?" DK asked. Cranky sighed and folded one of his hands behind his back and said "Donkey, as you know, you are to take over as chief of Kongo Bongo in three weeks time. As such you have to take - more responsibility, I know." Donkey said interrupting him. Cranky scowled at him for a moment before continuing "Yes, that's correct Donkey. And your little nephew, Diddy is supposed to take over as chief - thirty years after me, Cranky, I know this, but can't you just keep being chief for a little while longer?" Donkey said interrupting Cranky again before continuing as Cranky scowled at him more harshly "I mean, planning meetings, managing resources, running a whole village, I'm not cut out for that. I mean, I can help out around the village but can't you just -" Donkey didn't get to finish as cranky yelled at him "Oh for Pete's sake, Donkey. I'M GETTING TO OLD FOR THIS! I've been chief for over fifty years now and I'm getting to old to continue as chief! It's time for new blood to take the helm so that's why your going to be taking over. Your going to be the next chief of Kongo Bongo so start acting like one! Now, the job I have for you." Cranky said clapping his hands together. "What do you need me to do, Cranky?" DK asked with a small smile. Despite his earlier demeanor, Donkey Kong loved to help out his grandfather and around the village. He just didn't feel he was ready - let alone, cut out - to be chief. His father, Donkey Kong Jr. was supposed to take Cranky's place as chief but he and his mom disappeared about twenty-one years ago when he was six. So Cranky had to take over for another twenty years until Donkey was of-age to take the mantle of chief from him so he can retire in peace. "Something has landed in the Kalimba Jungle, and I want you to investigate. Take Diddy with you if ya want. Might be good experience for the kid." Cranky said. "Any idea what landed?" Donkey asked. "None, which is why I'm having you investigate." "What's with the yelling?" a young sounding voice asked. Donkey and Cranky looked up at the treehouse to see that Diddy had woken up but was still a tad tired if the look on his face was any indication. Diddy was a young monkey and Donkey Kong's nephew. He is currently wearing a red striped shirt and hat which act as his sleepwear. DK smiled up at him and yelled "Diddy! Feel like exploring the Kalimba Jungle?! Cranky says something landed in it!" Diddy immediately perked and exclaimed "The Kalimba Jungle!? Sure!" before rushing back inside to get ready. DK laughed before looking back at his grandfather and saying "We're on it, Cranky." Cranky nodded with a satisfied smile before walking back to the village while muttering under his breath "Would it kill him once to call me "Grandpa?"" 'This has to be some sort of bad dream. It has to be.' Spike thought to himself as he wandered through the jungle, all while trying to get used to his new body. He had stood by the lake he woke up by for what felt like hours, trying to make sense of what had happened. Spike had come to the conclusion that after Silverstream burst in unexpectedly, the spell Twilight was trying to cast went haywire and ricocheted around the room and he ended up getting hit, and now he's who knows where! He had decided to see if he can find civilization and started traversing the jungle. Thus leading us to our current scene. Spike had been wandering the jungle for half an hour now and has found nothing but more jungle... and occasionally, some randomly placed barrels. And to make matters worse, he was in the body of what appeared to be a cross between a monkey and a dragon. 'hmm... Monkey...' Spike mused to himself. Looking around, he tried to locate the tallest tree. He then noticed one tree that poked further above the canopy then some of the other trees. Deciding to use this one, he ran over to it and started to climb. After many failed attempts, Spike managed to get to the top of the tree. Once he was up there, he glanced in all eight directions. To the north, northeast, and east directions was the face of a mountain. In the southeast was an arch and under it, was more jungle. Spike could barely see past the arch but he thought he could see faint hints of sand. A beach maybe? Directly to the south and southwest even more jungle and an ocean. To the west appeared to be even more jungle. And to the northwest was more jungle but beyond it, there appeared to be something else. Spike squinted his eyes to see if he could make out what he was seeing. It was far away but Spike thought he could see the roof of a building in the distance. That meant civilization! And that means somecreature that could tell him where he is! Before he could climb down the tree though something flew into his line of sight. Directly. In. Front. Of. His. Face! Staring back at him was a black face with huge eyes and a pair of mandibles. "AAAAAAAHH!" the dragon turned monkey-dragon screamed in alarm as he flailed his arms and fell out of the tree. Donkey and Diddy had since entered the Kalimba Jungle in search of whatever landed in it when they heard a scream "AAAAAAHH!" Diddy and DK turned to each other as the young monkey asked "Did you hear that DK?" "I sure did, little buddy. Let's check it out!" Donkey declared as he and Diddy started running towards the sound of the scream. Spike had landed on the jungle floor with a thud. Propping himself up on his claws, he looked up and saw what had spooked him in full detail. It was insectoid in appearance and it was split up into three segments. The head was black and had long black antennas on top its head. It had huge eyes that were closely joined together and a pair of mandibles for its mouth. It's middle section, the thorax consisted of its six long black legs and a pair of wings on its back which we're currently buzzing as it was airborne. And last but not least, it's abdomen. It had a striped pattern consisting of yellow and black. Like a bee. Along it's back were razor sharp spines and at the end of it's abdomen, it had a sharp pointy stinger, ready to lay some pain to anyone who bothered it's owner. And it's owner wasn't small either, it was big. At least as big as Spike, so needless to say... Spike was a bit intimidated by the giant insect. The giant insect flew in closer as Spike immediately backed up before bumping into something sharp. Spike yelped and jumped to the side to see that there was another one of those insects behind him. The two big insects were soon joined by three more and now there were five of them. Spike kept backing up until he hit the back of the tree, signaling he couldn't back up any further. The insects kept closing in, flying closer and closer. Spike normally wouldn't be scared, as he is certain his scales could protect him from their stingers; but he's not exactly covered head to toe in dragon scales anymore, he could tell! The only parts of him covered in scales were his hands, feet, and tail, leaving the rest of him that's covered in fur, vulnerable. Suddenly, Spike got an idea. He's a dragon, he can breath fire! 'Why didn't I think of that sooner?' Spike asked himself. Spike steadied himself against the tree and got up on his legs. Now standing tall, the insects backed off a little, but not in fear. They were merely curious about the determined and brave look he had on his face. Spike took a deep breath that puffed up his chest... and breathed out... but nothing happened. Spike opened his eyes and saw that the insects were still there, blinking in confusion. So he breathed in and breathed out again. Still, nothing happened. Growing desperate, Spike tried to breath fire again and again but had no success. That's when Spike came to a startling conclusion. 'I can't breath fire now, either!?' Spike shouted in his head, now in full panic mode. Noticing the change in his expression, the insects crept in closer again. Spike braced himself against the tree in full panic now. He had no Twilight, no friends, no allies, nobody to save him... he was alone here. Not being able to back up anymore, Spike closed his eyes and prepared for the worst. "BANANA SLAMMA!" a voice shouted from out of nowhere. The insects looked in the direction of the shout only for one of them to be hit in the head with a barrel that broke upon contact. The insect hit fell to the ground unconscious. With a thud, the attacker revealed himself to be Donkey Kong who pounded his chest and made gorilla noises. From behind him appeared his nephew, Diddy, who let out his own monkey noises. Spike had since opened his eyes and got a good look at his saviors. Buzzing angrily for their fallen comrade, the wasp-like foes charged at their attackers. DK and Diddy leapt in two different directions to avoid the remaining enemies and their painful stingers. "Diddy, you remember how to take care of Zingers?" DK asked as he landed back on his feet. "You use a barrel!" Diddy answered as he landed by a wooden barrel. The little monkey may not be as physically strong as his uncle but he can still lift a barrel, just not over his head. Diddy tossed the barrel at the closest Zinger who didn't have time to get out of the way as the barrel barreled in to him. Even though the barrel hit the Zinger, it didn't break upon contact like the first one did. Instead it kept rolling, but the remaining three Zingers had already flew out of the way of the barrel. Momentarily distracted, a Zinger didn't have time to react when DK surprised it with another barrel. The remaining two Zingers stared at their two opponents who stood in an attack-ready position, and then looked at their fallen comrades. Deciding to cut their losses, they each picked up one of their three fallen allies and took off. Deciding they'll find another Zinger to come back and pick up the third one before predators came by. Spike stared as the two Zingers flew off while his two saviors laughed and high-fived in the background. "Not bad, not bad at all, Diddy. You did good for your 3rd time out in the jungle." DK said praising his nephew. "Thanks DK, I had a great teacher." Diddy said referring to his uncle. "Why thank you, little buddy. Now let's make sure our new friend is okay." DK said referring to Spike. The two Kongs approached Spike who had turned to his saviors and said shakily "Um...Th-thank you for saving me. I-I don't know wh-what I would have done if you hadn't shown up." "Your welcome." DK said helping Spike up to his feet. "My name is Donkey Kong III, you can call me Donkey Kong, or DK. Almost everybody does." DK then put a shoulder around Diddy and said "And this is my nephew, Diddy Kong." "Hi there." Diddy said. Seeing that they were friendly, Spike lowered his guard and smiled at them. "I'm Spike." he replied. "So, Spike, how'd you wind up in the middle of the Kalimba Jungle?" DK asked curiously. Spike wasn't really sure how to answer his question. He just kind of woke up in the middle of this "Kalimba Jungle". Answering honestly he said "My friend/ Big sister figure was practicing a spell she found in this new book a student of hers found in the library, when that same student and her friends came in through the door and spooked her enough to break her concentration, causing the spell to go haywire. I got hit and the next thing I know, I wake up in the middle of this Kalimba Jungle with no idea where home is and on top of that, I'm in a body that's not my own." Spike summarized. DK and Diddy just stared at Spike for awhile before Diddy answered "Well if your unsure of where home is, maybe Cranky can help you, back in Kong Town. He knows everything. Where is home anyways?" Diddy asked. "Ponyville, Equestria." Spike answered. DK and Diddy just stared at him again, not having any idea where that is, nor have they heard of it. "Have you heard of an Equestria, DK?" Diddy asked his uncle. "No, though granted we aren't that good at geography anyway. Ask me about any local on the island and I can give a brief summary on each location and the environment but out there in the big blue? I'm as blind as a Squeekly." DK said. "Speaking of locations, where exactly am I?" Spike asked. DK smiled and said "Your on Kongo Bongo Island, Spike. Home of the Kongs." "Kongo Bongo... Wait a minute..." Spike said to himself as realization hit him. 'The book that Ocellus found. The title was "History of the Kongs" and she mentioned that the book mentioned a place by the name of Kongo Bongo. Could this just be a coincidence? Wait Twilight mentioned the book having a spell that could create a bridge to the world the book described. Could I be in another world? Oh sweet Celestia, please let me be dreaming!' Spike panicked in his head. Noticing the panicked look on his face, DK patted his back and said "Don't worry, Spike. We'll get you home and back to your big sister in no time. Now let's go see Cranky in Kong Town." he said with a smile. DK and Diddy then led the way back to Kong Town, with Spike in tow. Hopefully this 'Cranky' creature will be able to help Spike and get him back home to Equestria. Author's Note And with that, Spike has met Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, and now he's on his way to see Cranky to see if he can possibly get him home, but it's going to be a little more complicated than they think. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter-2: Residents of Kong Town //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter-2: Residents of Kong Town Donkey Kong, Diddy, and Spike were still traveling through the Kalimba Jungle on their way to Kong Town and on the way the trio had started up a conversation. "So let me get this straight. Your name is Donkey Kong, your father's name is also Donkey Kong, and your grandfather's name is ALSO Donkey Kong?" Spike asked in surprise upon finding out that his father and grandfather are also named Donkey Kong. "Yep. My grandfather is Donkey "Cranky" Kong I, my father, Donkey Kong Jr., is Donkey Kong II, and I'm Donkey Kong III." DK said with pride in his voice. Spike just grinned and said "That's cool! I can't wait to meet them!" he said with an eager smile. At this DK just frowned and turned away. Spike lost his smile and asked "Was it something I said?" Diddy turned to him and replied "Naw, your fine. It's just..." Diddy said with a little hesitation but continued "DK's father disappeared about twenty-one years ago, and nobody's heard from him or his mother since. Upon finding this out, Spike felt guilty and appoligized "Oh, I'm sorry DK, I didn't know." DK sighed and raised one of his huge hands and replied "No, no, your fine Spike. You didn't know." Diddy leaned toward Spike and whispered "DK says he's fine and that he's gotten over it, but I think it still bothers him sometimes so I try not to mention it." Diddy finished making Spike frown and nod in understanding. Looking to change the subject and lift the mood, Diddy asked Spike "So earlier you said that you were in a body that's not your own. So if you weren't a... monkey-lizard hybrid before you arrived here, what were you?" DK immediately perked up and said excitedly "Yeah, I don't think you told us!" Spike smirked with pride and answered "Well back in Equestria, I'm actually a dragon." Spike answered. At this answer, Donkey and Diddy stopped and stared at Spike in shock and wonder. "Woah, really!? An actual dragon!?" DK asked excitedly. "Yep." Spike said simply, popping the "P". "Oh, oh, can you breath fire? Can you fly? Do you have a whole hoard of gold and treasure?" Diddy asked jumping up and down in excitement. "In order? Yes, I could breath fire back in Equestria, but I haven't been able to since I got here. I tried to barbecue those... Zingers, but no flames. No I can't fly, and... I really don't like to talk about that last one." Spike answered rubbing his sleeved arm in embarrassment in remembrance of his last birthday. The Kongs raised an eyebrow at the answer to that last one but shrugged. It wasn't their business. If Spike didn't want to talk about it, that was fine with them. "Anyway, with my fire I can send messages and letters to the monarch of Equestria, Princess Celestia, and it works vice versa in case she needs to deliver a message to Twilight, my best friend and big sister figure." Spike explained. "Really? Directly to the leader of Equestria?" DK asked. "Yes." Spike answered. "Have you tried sending messages to someone other then Princess Celestia?" Diddy asked. Spike thought for a moment but couldn't recall a time he sent a message that wasn't to the princess. "No, I haven't tried actually. Never crossed my mind really." Spike answered. The trio kept talking as they continued their trek to Kong Town. Soon they reached an opening in the forest and they were greeted to the sight of a small town with wooden huts and a tall stone clocktower near the center. The towns residents went about their day, chatting with friends and store owners and young apes playing in the streets. Spike was speechless at how peaceful this town seemed to be. It seemed as peaceful as Ponyville was in times of peace. And he's talking about a town that got a monster attack at least once a week. "Spike, welcome to Kong Town." DK welcomed. When the trio entered the town, Spike got a few weird looks his way. The apes here had never seen a purple monkey before. Let alone one with claws and a reptile tail. Spike was getting a little nervous from their staring, but DK assured him that they were just curious. Then a sudden voice got the group's attention. "DK!" a female voice shouted. Spike turned and what he saw made his mouth dry up. If front of them was a beautiful female kong with shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes with light purple eye shadow and pink lipstick. Her figure is slim and fit, most likely from exercising regularly. She has light brown fur and pale skin, and Spike thought he could see pink nail polish on her fingers. She wore a revealing pink vest top that was torn up at the bottom, turning it into a revealing pink crop top that left her midsection exposed. She also wore dark pink shorts with a purple belt and gold ring buckle. Attached to the belt was a small box like device that Spike didn't recognize. On her feet she wore hot pink sneakers, and had a set of headphones around her neck with a wire leading to the device on her belt. Upon seeing her DK smiled immensely and replied "Heya, Candy. How are you this fine day." DK said all gentleman like. Candy giggled a melodious giggle that was an absolute pleasure to hear. "I'm just fine DK." Candy looked off to the side and saw Spike. To say she was curious was an understatement. She had never seen a purple kong before. When she saw his reptilian tail she became even more curious. She asked DK "So who's this little cutie, DK? You babysitting for one of the villagers?" She asked innocently. "Oh for Celestia's sake, I'm almost 13." Spike grumbled with a blush at being called "cutie". "This is Spike. He... kinda has a unique situation so we're taking him to Cranky to see if he can help." Diddy answered. "Spike, this is my girlfriend, Candy Kong." "Hello, Spike." Candy said in greeting. "H-hi" Spike said shyly to the beautiful woman before he realized something. "Wait...Candy... Kong? You both share the same last name?" Spike asked confusedly. DK, Diddy, and Candy laughed at his confusion before Donkey replied "No...no see, Kong isn't really a last name per se. It's the name of our species." "Then how do you know who's related to who?" Spike asked with a raised brow. "That's simple, we just do." Donkey replied. Spike stared at them for a second before shrugging. Basically deciding to just not question it. "Anyway, I just stopped to say hello. I better get back to my jog. Hope Cranky's able to help you with your problem, Spike. And DK, don't forget: we have a date this coming Tuesday." Candy said waving goodbye before jogging off. DK waved back to her and replied "Don't worry Candy, I won't forget!" After Candy left, the trio continued on their way to Cranky's. On their way through town, they noticed a crowd in front of a booth. Deciding to see what was going on, they saw a well-dressed Kong manning the booth. 'Maybe this guy's a nobleman' Spike thought in his head. He wore a black bowler hat, and wore a golden plaqued buttoned dress shirt. That was all Spike could tell because the rest of him was obscured by the booth. The kong was currently addressing the crowd "Step right up folks, don't be shy! Try your luck at Swanky's Darts!" the Kong said waving his hands at a dart board behind him. "And I'm your host, Swanky Kong!" The Kong, now known as Swanky declared. "For only 25 Banana Coins you have the chance to win awesome prizes! For children, price is only 10 Banana Coins! So step right up, hit the target, get a prize!" Swanky finished, speaking in a confident spokesperson's voice. The well-dressed Kong turned and saw Spike and addressed him "You there!" he said pointing at Spike. Startled, Spike looked around and saw that the crowd was looking at him now. From the crowd he could hear some whispers like "What's with his fur color?", "Is he sick?", "What's with the tail?" "His hands are purple.". Spike looked back at the ape in the booth and asked "Me?" Spike asked pointing to himself. "Yes you!" Swanky confirmed "How about a game of darts? Price for kongs your age is only 10 Banana coins!" Spike stumbled on his words. From the sound of it, Banana Coins was the currency around here. Which he had none of, so he was trying to think of a way to tell him he didn't have any money. Fortunately, Donkey came to his rescue "Um sorry, Swanky, Spike's new around here and were kind of busy right now. We're headed over to Cranky's place to see if he can help him with something." he explained. Swanky waved his hand "Oh it's fine DK, surely the kid's got time to play just one game?" Swanky asked looking at Spike who's only response was "um…" "...No? That's alright kid, I won't pressure you. Name's Swanky Kong by the way. I run gameshows and small carnival games that give away fantastic prizes. If your looking for something to help you unwind and forget your troubles, I'm your Kong. NOW can I interest anyone in a game of darts!?" Swanky said addressing the crowd once more as Donkey, Diddy, and Spike continued on there way. "So what's Cranky like anyway?" Spike asked. "Well, once you get past his cranky demeanor, Cranky can be a really cool Kong. He tends to complain a lot about how some things are done nowadays. Something about how stories use to be original and there being no need for fanfiction. I don't know, I can never pay attention when he goes on one of his rants." Diddy summarized. DK replied to him "Me neither, little buddy. Me neither." "Yo! Donkey-Dude! Diddy-Dude! I was just looking for ya!" a Jamaican accent said happily. DK and Diddy smiled upon seeing who it was. Spike just looked and saw a big kong with a similar build to DK and had light brown fur instead of dark brown like Donkey's. He wore a white tank top tucked under blue shorts with a black belt and a silver belt buckle. This Kong sported purple tinted shades and a red bandana with white polka dots wrapped around his head. Carried under his arm was a red surfboard. The kong walked up to DK and Diddy "What up, my friends!" he said in greeting. "Heya Funky." DK said back. "Catch any big waves today?" Diddy asked. Funky shook his head 'no' and answered "Not today Diddy-Dude. The tides have been flat today so there have been no waves to catch." Funky then looked at the third member of their party and noticed the tail and exclaimed "Woah! Far out tail, man! Donkey-Dude, who's your new friend?" Funky asked. DK put a hand on Spike's shoulder and answered "This is Spike. He's new around here. Spike, this is my older brother, Funky Kong." "Hi, Funky." Spike said waving at him. "We're taking him to Cranky to see if he can help Spike get back to his home." DK informed. "Well what a coincdink, Cranky just sent me to look for you guys! Talk about great timing!" Funky said. DK and Diddy raised an eyebrow in confusion. DK confusingly said "Uh, Cranky sent you to look for us? We were only gone for about an hour. We didn't have to go very far into the Kalimba Jungle." "Try almost two hours, Donkey-Dude." Funky corrected. DK and Diddy squawked in shock "TWO HOURS!?" they said at the same time. "Yeah. You know how impatient Cranky can get so he asked me to go find you two." Funky answered. "Well then let's not keep Cranky waiting any longer." DK said as they were about to continue to Cranky's until Diddy came up with a brilliant idea. "Hey... maybe we don't need to go to Cranky's. Funky can just take Spike back to his homeland." Diddy suggested. DK perked up and turned to him with a smile and said "Say... that's not a bad idea little buddy. Funky can just give Spike an express flight back to this Equestria place in his Airplane Barrel." Spike hearing them asked confusingly "Take me back to Equestria in a what barrel?" Funky facepalmed and declared "It's not a barrel, man! It's an actual airplane!" "It's still in the shape of a barrel Funky." DK said before turning to Spike and saying "See Spike, my big bro runs a business by the beach called "Funky's Flights". He takes people to their destinations around the world in his airplane." "Well... not the entire world DK. I haven't ventured any further than the Northern Kremisphere. And THAT is a twenty hour flight." Funky stated. "Well Funky. Have you heard of an Equestria? It's Spike's homeland." Diddy asked. Funky tapped his chin in thought, trying to think if he's ever heard of such a place... "Mmm... nope. Can't say I've ever heard of an Equestria..." Funky stated but then snapped his fingers as he got an idea "but maybe Cranky's has. We all know he has a ton of knowledge in that brain of his, maybe he's heard of it and knows where it is. And then, once he gives us the lowdown and a map, I can take Spike back to his home." Funky planned. DK, Diddy, and Spike agreed with Funky's plan and continued on there way to Cranky's. They had now reached Cranky's house and now DK was knocking on the door. The one who opened the door was an elderly female Kong that was slightly hunched over wearing a green poncho over a white robe. "Ah, Funky, back so soon?" the elderly Kong asked and then she saw DK and Diddy. Wrinkly laughed in surprise and stated "Ah, you found them already. My, you work fast, Funky. Now if you could just find a girlfriend as fast. I want some great-grandkids to spoil rotten." At this, Funky groaned while DK and Diddy snickered at his expense. "I keep telling you Grandma Wrinkly, I just haven't found the right girl yet!" Wrinkly folded her arms and asked "Really? You flirt with all those women at your workplace, Funky's Flights, and yet you haven't made a connection with any of them? Shame on you, Funky." Wrinkly said to her oldest grandson. Funky just groaned more as Donkey and Diddy continued to laugh at his expense. Wrinkly then noticed Spike and his strange appearance and asked "My, now who's this strange looking young man?" Spike, noticing she was talking to him, introduced himself "Um... hi, I'm Spike." "Wrinkly Kong. I'm Donkey and Funky's grandmother." Wrinkly said extending her hand out for Spike to shake. Spike shook her hand while DK told Wrinkly they were here to see Cranky. Hearing this, Wrinkly invited the four in. They sat down in the living room while Wrinkly went to go get Cranky. Before leaving the group Wrinkly said she had a batch of Banana Cream Cookies in the oven that were almost done, much to the joy of the three Kongs in the room. They loved Wrinkly's cooking. Spike and the Kongs chatted until Wrinkly came back into the room with who Spike assumed to be Cranky while Wrinkly went into the kitchen. The elderly Kong ignored Spike and marched up to Donkey and Diddy and asked "Well? What did ya find?" Cranky asked impatiently. "Well, Cranky. While we were exploring the Kalimba Jungle, we found Spike here... " DK said gesturing to the aforementioned dragon turned... lizard-monkey that Cranky just now noticed and just stared at him "being attacked by a group of Zingers." DK finished. "We rescued him and asked what he was doing in the middle of the Kalimba Jungle and he told us he just woke up in the middle of the jungle. Said he was from a place called "Equestria"." Cranky head snapped back towards DK with his eyes opened wide as DK finished "So we took him here hoping you could help get him home or at least provide a map so Funky can take him back." DK leaned back as Cranky pointed at his walking stick at his face and demanded "Equestria? Did you just say Equestria?!" Dumbfounded, DK answered "Yes. Why?" Cranky turned his head away in thought. 'So that dragon wasn't making it up after all...' Cranky thought to himself. "So what do you say Cranky? Can you help him?" Diddy asked. Cranky saw the hope light up in Spike's eyes. Cranky sighed and walked away from DK and went to sit in his rocking chair in defeat. After about a minute of silence, Cranky spoke "There's no easy way to break this so I'm just going to rip off the band-aid and get it over with." What the elderly ape said made the light disappear from Spike's eyes as the three Kongs glanced at each other in confusion. "Kid, I'm sorry to say it but... your stuck here. Ain't no way to get you back to Equestria. It's impossible" Cranky said finally. "WHAT!?" Author's Note My first Cliffhanger!:yay: https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/yay.png Apologies for the wait, I got distracted. So what do you think? Did I interpret Candy, Swanky, and Funky's personalities correctly? Do you think they could use some work? Share your thoughts! I welcome any constructive criticism you have. This chapter was going to be longer but I decided to cut it off here and put anything I had in the next chapter. Until next time - which will hopefully be soon - Emperor Wolfgang out! AROOOOOO!!
