//-------------------------------------------------------// Kiss My Thoughts -by MellowSoul- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// One Step Forward //-------------------------------------------------------// Author's Note Why did I write this? Because I'm insane, and I embrace the insanity. One Step Forward Rainbow Dash opened her eyes. Isolated rays of sunshine slipped through the crack underneath the door. The warmth of Spike's arms clinging to her body entrapped her. She didn't want to move. She wanted to stay there forever, but her only option was to resign herself to practicality. Gently, she slithered away, much as she despised the action. She yawned before opening the door and leaving the room. Gradually, she moved toward the bathroom door. After showering, Rainbow dried herself off. There's an old saying that goes "cleanliness is next to godliness". That's how the mare felt she could best describe herself - a goddess in the eyes of her god. When she looked in the mirror, she saw what she had only rarely seen in herself through much of her life. Rather than the thin veil of playful boastfulness masking her uncertainty, she caught a glimpse of true confidence. Satisfied with her psychological salutation, she left the room and entered the living area. Her heart nearly stopped when she stumbled upon a familiar Alicorn. "H-hey, Twi." Twilight gave her friend a smug smile, as though she knew some deep, dark secret. "How was he," she asked out of the blue. "Wait, were you here all night!?" "Long enough to hear you turn into a mess of ecstasy." "Sorry..." Twilight started laughing. "Why are you apologizing? This isn't a surprise to anybody. The tension was building all week." "I dunno. Guess I thought you'd be upset for some reason." "Don't sweat it. I trust you guys enough to make your own decisions." "Thanks." "You still haven't answered my question." "Would you believe me if I said it was the most awesome thing ever?" "I'm not surprised." "Why's that?" "I may have convinced him to study advanced anatomy and physiology for such an occasion." "I should've known something was up. It was too good to be executed without some kind of planning." It was Rainbow's turn to laugh. "You became a sex guru through science. Go figure." "What a shocker, right?" The two cracked up about the situation for a while. Twilight calmed herself before speaking again. "Can I ask you something?" "Go for it." "Do you really love him?" "The spacing out and constant touching wasn't enough?" "It's just that I know the chemicals are all swarming around right now. I'm worried about what'll happen when they subside..." Twilight's voice carried a saddened tone with her remark. "What's wrong, Twi?" "I don't know how to explain. I guess I'm afraid of us getting our hearts broken." "Is everything okay with Flash?" "Yes, but that's what scares me. All the races in Equestria have one thing in common - our unpredictability." "You're worried he'll stop loving you." "Ironically, my love life is the easiest thing to discern about me. Am i overthinking it?" "Not at all. Fear of the future is grounded in reason and understanding. It's a defense mechanism to prepare us for the worst case scenario." "That's a surprisingly astute observation." "I dated a few guys that turned out to be real scumbags near the end. Feeling unloved is one of the worst things someone can go through." "What can I do?" "Treasure the love you feel now. cling to it for all it's worth. If things go south, fight with all you have to keep it. There's someone who will want to share it with you." "That's really beautiful." "Maybe I should write some poetry on the side, huh?" "It would definitely be interesting." "In reality though, Spike's been teaching me this a little bit at a time without even having to try all that hard." "What do you like about him?" "Where do I even begin? For starters, you and him were responsible for bringing everyone together. That opened up a whole realm of possibilities on its own. He's caring, strong, smart, persistent, but aside from that, I watched him become those things through his own struggles. He's already faced his demons and conquered them. That's why I know he'd never do anything to hurt me." "And why you feel the same way." "You guessed it." Rock music started playing in the dragon's room. Memories of the lasting pleasure he had shared with the Pegasus flooded back into her mind. "Speak of the devil." "Oh, judging from what I heard last night, he was pretty devilish." "You're such a perv." "And you use cliche anime lines." "Point taken, voyeur." "Contradictory to what you might believe, I was purely observing." "Nothing pure about it. That has sin written all over it." "I wasn't aware we were living in the year 1692." "Guess we should grab our cloaks and bibles." "Yeah, really." Spike emerged from his quarters. He saw the two ponies talking. "Hey, Twi. You're back early." "Ms. Smarty Pants was spying on us last night." "Yes. That's exactly what happened," Twilight asserted half-seriously. Spike's head felt so hot with embarrassment he thought it would spontaneously combust. "Don't look so wigged out. You knew I had to be curious what losing your virginity would be like. From what I heard, Rainbow wasn't the only one pleased with the results." The dragon gave his sister a comedically disapproving look. "You're so weird...," he responded before sitting on the floor next to Rainbow Dash. "It's okay. I know something Twilight doesn't," Rainbow teased. "Ooh! Sounds juicy. What's the latest gossip in SpikeDash land?" Spike wrapped his arm around his sky-shaded angel. He placed his head against hers. "He told me about the universal chromosome compatibility." "Are you saying what I think you're saying!?" "Looks like you're gonna' be an auntie twice over, now." "Wooooah! That came out of left field." "We're all in positions where our lives don't have to change much anymore, Twilight. I know you and him will be here for us." "What about you, Spike? Are you sure this is what you want?" "I've never been more sure about anything." "Well, this happened faster than expected, but, by the power not so vested in me, I now pronounce you horse and dragon I guess?" "You ever consider being a priestess, Twilight," Rainbow joked. All three of them laughed until it was difficult to breathe. Once their funny bones were tickled out, Rainbow and Spike fully embraced each other. "What do you say we play along with the ceremony shtick," the Pegasus suggested. "I'm game." They both glanced over at Twilight. "Don't hold back on my account." And with that, a sloppy make out session ensued.
