Keep Calm and Be a Good Filly
It was a peaceful day at Ponyville. Fluttershy sat on the floor, right next to the couch where her best friend was lying relaxedly. Fluttershy raised her head slightly. Originally, Discord was bigger than her, now he looked even more giant when she was in this miniature state. That face, the face of a villain who had once brought terror and chaos all over Equestria, was now sleeping peacefully in front of her eyes. Fluttershy remembered the time she had to endure her whole fear when facing the Lord of Chaos, who also gave her a sense of security whenever she was with her close friend. Maybe Discord sometimes brought a bit of troubles to Fluttershy, but everything he did always gave the filly laughter. She knows those are all harmless, because he reformed, and that made her proud.
Then she collapsed her head again, thinking about the fear she had hidden for a long time. It was nonsense. Not that she did not trust Discord, but she was still afraid. Suddenly, a warm feelings ran along Fluttershy's tiny cheeks. She didn't even notice how long had she left her tears flow down.
"Fluttershy?..."
Hearing her name, she startled and raised her head, caught a worried look from the owner of that call, with her eyes still flooded. Fluttershy tried to wipe her tears away and smiled gently.
"Sorry Discord, did I wake you? I didn't think my cry was so loud." She chuckled.
"No, I did not sleep. I was awaken half an hour ago. Forget that. Why was you crying?"
"O-Oh well, I-I'm going to make some sandwiches for you..."
"Fluttershy, you haven't answered my ques-"
"Would you like cucumber or jam?"
"Fluttershy..."
"Tea seems to be a wonderful idea."
"FLUTTERSHY! SIT BACK HERE RIGHT NOW!!!!"
The filly obediently returned to her old seat in a few seconds and sat there as she was frozen with a frightened face. Discord chuckled. Since Fluttershy became a filly, Discord has started to try some new tricks on the little one. And seems like he has succeeded with one of them. Every time he shouted and called Fluttershy's name, she would immediately sit down in front of him like a puppy, even when she did nothing wrong. Gradually, it became a habit, Fluttershy knew that Discord only shouted to tease her, but she still did that reflexively.
Discord smirked, put his talon on her soft pink mane and played with it until red filled Fluttershy's face. She looked really adorable.
"Very good, Flutterpup."
"Never do that again."
Fluttershy was angry a little, though she couldn't deny that she liked it.
"Yeah, yeah. Now, answer my question."
An angry face immediately disappeared, replaced by a depression. Fluttershy turned her head away, not daring to look directly in his eyes. Discord realized it and let out a sigh.
"Come on now, Flutters. You know you can tell your dearest friend everything."
"Everything? Even if it sounds so silly? Will you still hear me?"
The draconequus nodded slightly. His words comforted her a little, but there was still something that made her hestitant. The pegasus took a deep breath, tried to calm herself.
"So, i-if you don't mind, please answer me: Will you be my best friend forever?"
"Of course I will. Why do you ask such a silly question?"
Seeing Fluttershy seemed to be more depressed, Discord suddenly realized that he had made a mistake.
"Not that I don't believe our friendship. It's just... if one day I grow up, and grow up, and... disappear, will you still remember me? I know aging process has been a few years slower than Twilght's and the others', but that doesn't change anything. In the end, the day I have to go will come. Does that mean..."
She paused, looked up at Discord with a face full of tears. Somehow, despite being influenced by Fluttershy's sadness, Discord could still find his voice.
"Of course the answer is yes. You're the first and the most important friend I've ever had in thousand years. How could I forget you?"
"So why am I important?"
"Because you are the Element of Kindness."
"Does that mean if it's not because of that Element of Harmony, I won't be important anymore?"
"No... I-"
"Tell me one of my special points!"
"You are beautiful, kind, gentle, and after all, you are caretaker of animal, remember?"
"That's what I'm afraid of! I don't have anything special!"
"What are you talking abou-"
"There are many ponies who are more beautiful and gentle than me. You can find kindness in everypony. And I'm not the only one can take care of animals! That's why I'm afraid... I'm not really a best friend that you need..."
Fluttershy gripped her head with her front hooves. Her tears kept falling and the soft sobs came out from her throat. Discord has never seen her being so pessimistic like this before. He felt a little helpless. But Fluttershy trusted him and told him everything, so now is his turn. Discord knew he had to help her get rid of these wrong thoughts immediately.
"Listen Discord, I know very well what I'm saying. I need everypony, but no one really needs me. I am completely useless and weak, right?! Just look at me, a pegasus can't even fly as well as others?..."
"Stop!!! You don't know what you are saying!"
In spite of being startled, Fluttershy was still stubborn.
"Of course I do!"
"No, you don't! Let me show you the problem."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a flash after Discord snapped. Fluttershy opened her eyes and realized that they were standing on the grass. Before she could ask anything, Discord dragged her to hide behind a nearby bush with him.
"Um... What are we hiding from?
"We're not hiding, we are watching."
"Watching?"
The yellow pegasus looked at where Discord's claws pointed. Laughter surrounded 3 familiar fillies, it was the CMC. Fluttershy still didn't understand. They simply played happily together, as they always did. Is there anything strange?
"They look... happy?"
"Exactly!" Discord smiled. "Look at Scootaloo. She is a pegasus, but she doesn't need to fly to be happy and spread that happiness to her friends."
"O-Oh..."
"And without you, the stone statues of those fillies would be somewhere in Everfree Forest with Twilight, who is now precious Princess of Friendship."
Fluttershy tilted her head. Seemed like she understood something. Another flash appeared. This time, they were in the center of Ponyville, where you can see loves and friendships everywhere. That warmed Fluttershy's heart a lot.
"Remember the dragon that once made the sky full of its breath?" Discord asked, but he didn't wait for the answer. "Without you, Ponyville would become Smokeville. You saved your home but didn't hurt that dragon even just a little bit. You think everyone can do that?"
Discord and Fluttershy teleported to the last place, the sanctuary that she and her friends built together. It was so peaceful, with green trees, clean water and fresh air. A perfect place for all kinds of creatures to come and rest, as she wanted. A few bunnies ran close to the pegasus. She smiled sweetly.
"Without you, would these animals have a safe shelter for all of them?"
Suddenly, Discord carried Fluttershy with his talon and hugged her tightly. The yellow pony was surprised, but quickly enjoyed the warmth from the hug.
"And without you, I would continue to turn Ponyville into Chaos Capital of the world and would never be able to see the magic of friendship." He said without noticing that Fluttershy was staring at him. She had never seen him like this before. He was serious, but his words were still so sweet and warm. "When others all wanted to turn me back into stone, you was the first and the only one willing to trust and give me another chance. You know how much it means to me, don't you?"
He looked down at her teal blue eyes while rubbing her mane. His gaze was strange, it was the first time she had ever seen that look in a naughty friend as Discord. There was something attracted her in those eyes, something that she didn't even want to leave. But she continued to rub her face against Discord's chest.
"You see. You don't need the Element to be a hero, because you're the Element. The true Kindness is deep inside your heart, and nothing can change it. Maybe you're right, you're not the only pony who can take care of animals, but you are the only one can truly understand what they need. You are not the only pony who have kindness, but no one is more kind and gentle than you. You don't need to fly well or have powerful magic to be special, 'cause you're special when you're being yourself. Do you get what I'm trying to tell you now?"
"Yes..."
"Show me."
"I'm not useless. I don't need to have powerful magic like Twilight, or a fast speed like Rainbow Dash, or even fanshionable style like Rarity. I have my own personalities. So... my thoughts were all wrong. Animals need me, my friends need me..."
"... And I need you. I know you still have your memories, but at this time, I think you're too young to clearly understand these things, my dear Fluttershy. Just don't ever forget: you're my best friend forever."
She won't forget, no matter what happens. Who knows what will they meet in the future? Discord's right, she was too small too understand her feelings as an adult. But she knew one thing: she is the filly, a silly filly that had her fluttered feelings.
