Chief was only a young stallion. He loved to wrestle with his brother and all of their friends. They would play king of the hill, and Chief would always win. He was a happy child. His coat was brown with a short dark brown mane. He was a late bloomer when it came to his cutie mark but it never got him down.

It was late one evening. Chief and his brother Shining Armor were playing king of the hill with their friends. It was a free for all game, and as usual Chief was winning. Shining Armor was the closest there was to being able to compete with him. He had a blue mane with an all white coat. He wore a sleeveless shirt that was red. Chief wore one that was green.

“Come on guys! He can’t beat us all!”. Shining had announced. All the ponies then proceeded to charge at once. Chief kept a concentrated frown as he proceeded to headbutt his brother. Chief then continued to hold his ground by kicking another one of his friends. The kick had sent the poor stallion flying backwards and he landed on one of the other participants.

The next Stallion to climb up was met with a punch to the snout. Everypony was on the ground holding onto a pained area. Chief was bruised as well but he didn’t like to look weak in front of his friends, or his younger brother. He climbed down from the hill they were on and helped Shining Armor to his hooves.

“Good fight?”. Chief said. Shining looked disappointed that he had lost but he just laughed. “Good fight.”. He answered. “We better get everyone else up on their hooves or Dad won’t let us eat tonight.”. Shining said, sounding a little worried. As they helped the rest of their friends up they had yet to notice the pair of ponies watching them.

“I told you he would be a good candidate.”. The first pony said. She had a long light brown mane, with a tan colored fur. “Sorry I doubted you.”. The second pony said. The second pony was a male with a similar mane but he was much skinnier. “I’m going to go talk to him.”. The female pony said. The other pony didn’t get a chance to argue, as the woman had just walked towards the group of young stallions.

“Um excuse me!”. She holard. Chief and Shining had turned around to face her. “Can we help you ma’am.”. Chief asked. “My name is Catherine. I saw your game. May I ask what it was you were playing?”.

“Oh! We were just playing king of the hill. Mom and Dad don’t like me playing because i’m too rough on the other foals.”. Chief explained. Catherine smiled. “I take it you like games then?”. She asked him. Shining looked uncomfortable by this Mare. She was easy for him to read, but for his ‘punch first ask questions later’ brother, he wouldn’t be able to tell.

“I sure do!”. Chief said. Catherine smiled. “Tell you what. You see this gold coin?”. She asked. Chief nodded. “I am going to flip it a few times. If you can guess what side it will land on, you get to keep it. Deal?”. She said. Chief was excited to win the coin. He knew in every inch of his body he could win it. From most ponies, he would be seen as a rough pony that belongs in the royal guard, but he was actually very intelligent.

“Ok deal.”. He said calmly. Catherine flipped the coin into the air. Chief just looked at the coin and as it fell, he said his answer. “Tails.”. Catherine looked at the coin to reveal it being tails. “Good job.”. She said to him. She flipped the coin several more times. “Heads”. “Tails. “Tails.”. “Heads.”.

For about five minutes, they continued. Catherine flipped it one last time. “Heads.”. Chief said. Catherine caught the coin and inspected what the answer was. “Heads”. She said. “Good game.”. She said as she began to walk away. “Wait a minute!”. Chief had yelled. Catherine stopped.
“You said that if I could guess all of the coin flips correctly then you’d let me keep it.”. He said. Catherine merely smiled at the foal.

“So I did.”. She said. She then proceeded to flick the coin in chiefs direction. He caught it, and said his thanks to the mare. He then went over to his brother to show off what he had gotten.

Catherine walked back to the other pony. “How’d it go?”. He asked.
“Very well. Prepare the extraction team. Have them wipe the memory of everypony who knows Chief.”. She said. “I am not one of your scientists! Fine.”. He yelled. “Oh come on Keyes! This is for the sake of equestria!”. Catherine explained to her colleague.

Later that night

Chief and Shining armor had returned home after a long day of being out in the sun. their father was sitting on the recliner reading the news paper. "Aw! boys. there you are. I was wondering when you'd get home.". he said. chief and Shining both were rubbing the backs of their heads. "sorry dad. we didn't mean to be out so late.". Shining said. the truth was that they did mean to be out. they both had disliked their fathers cooking, and while their mother was in the hospital about to give birth any day now, they were stuck with his cooking.

"dinner is in the fridge.". Night light had said. Chief and Shining both gave a slight breath of relief. they both went into the kitchen where they found two plates with food that was so mashed that it looked like slop. Chief and Shining walked over to the window over the sink and dumped the food out. it was expected to rain in the morning, and the evidence would be washed away. Shining walked over to the pantry and grabbed a loaf of bread, and some peanut butter, with chunks of apples in it. Chief quickly grabbed a butter knife and two plates. they quickly made two sandwiches and ate them.

after cleaning p the mess, Chief had went to bed and fallen asleep. He was excited to meet his new baby sister. She was due any day now. As he had slept, several shadows crept into his room. Several Unicorns lifted the sleeping Chief from his bed. Some of the group of unicorns had begun erasing everything in the room from existence.

Other parts of the group had left the room to erase the memories of chief from Shining's mind. They had then done the same to the father, Night Light. along the way they erased chief from family photos as well.

Several groups were out tonight. They would be extracting memories from almost everyone in Canterlot, and taking other foals and fillies from their homes. in places like Applooza, to Manehattan, and Sattlerabia. It was difficult, mainly because of how many ponies there were, including guards. Throughout it all, Chief had been asleep.

Location unknown

Chief had woken to the sound of electricity being waved in his face.
“Rise and shine!”. A gruff voice had announced. Chief had sat up. He looked around himself to see a large room, at least the size of his neighborhood to his surprise. He was dragged out of his bed and he was shoved to start moving. Other foals were running in the same direction he was going so he decided to follow them. It wasn’t like he had much of a choice. As he started to jog, a stallion with a stick of lightning jabbed a younger foal after feeling insulted. “Don’t talk back to me Lamp Light.”. The stallion said. Chief kept his pace.

“Hey where are we? How did we get Here?”. A female voice said to chief. Chief turned to look at the filly jogging next to him. “I don’t know but I know that uhh..”. The look on his face had said it. “You can call me Kelly. It was a nickname back at home.”. Kelly said. Chief continued. “It will be ok Kelly.”. He said.

He was trying his best to be as calm as possible but it was extremely difficult. As they had reached the end of the hall they had found themselves at an obstacle course. At the entrance was Catherine, and two other stallions. Catherine spoke.

“All of you have been selected. You are the greatest children Equestria has ever seen. Your families are gone. Those around you now. THEY are your family. It will be difficult to survive, so work together.”. She then whispered something to one of the stallions next to her.

“Allright cadets, I am Avery. Today you will all be going through this obstacle course. It will be a small warm up for you all.”. The stallion had said. Chief had always loved a challenge. Especially if there was a prize. “What do we win for finishing first sir?”. Chief had yelled. The Avery smiled wickedly. “Dinner. You win Dinner, 117.”. Chief was confused when he was called a number, but he was determined to win. There were worried murmurs going on around him.

“GO!”. Avery shouted. Everyone had split up into groups. There were different lines to take. Chief didn’t care which line he took, so he just took the line that Kelly was on. He ran to the obstacle course with incredible speed. He had climbed over his first objective, and kept his pace.
As he cleared the second to last objective, he noticed everyone in his line was struggling to get up the last set to reach him. “Chief help!”. Kelly had asked. Although her plead had landed on deaf ears. Chief ran to the last obstacle. He had to climb a pole and ring a bell to finish. He gripped the pole and began to climb. It was a short climb for such a tall pole. He rang the bell with a smile on his face.

“First!”. Chief had announced to Avery, who was in front of him. An entire group had climbed the pole and rung the bell. “Red team is first.”. Avery announced. Chief went wide eyed. He gave Avery a a surprised stare that also showed a form of anger. Another group had reached the top. “Green team is second.”. Finally the rest of Chief’s group had reached the top.

One of the stallions was staring at chief for a moment. “Thanks for nothing.”. He said as he head butted chief to the ground. Chief barely felt it but he was in too much shock to get up from the ground. “But I finished FIRST.”. Chief said. Avery only shook his head.

“You may have finished first but your team finished last.”. He said. Chief was still confused. “You don’t win unless your team wins.”. Avery had then explained. Chief had let that sink in. Different kinds of thoughts ran through his head. He hadn’t even noticed that Kelly spat on his face before she left. Chief wiped it off of him, and knew he had to do something to make it up to the group he was now stuck with.

Cafeteria

Kelly and a few of their teammates were sitting at a table.Their group wasn’t allowed to eat dinner for the rest of the week. They all turned their heads and saw Chief approaching. “What do you want?”. Kelly spat.

“Kelly-”. One of the team mates was trying to calm her. “No Kelly is right. You could have helped us today but instead you left us in the dirt.”. A filly had said. “I know, and i’m really sorry.”. Chief began. He pulled out some crackers. “I stole these a little while ago. They’re stale but it's better than nothing.”. Chief said.

The ponies in the group took the crackers from chief. The all were happy that Chief would go out of his way for them but they didn’t have smiles on their faces. “It’s not a salad.”. Kelly said. “I know. I promise things will be different. I’ll never let you guys down again.”. Chief had said.

And just like that. There was a spark of leadership in him.

Do you ever regret your actions?

I don’t regret a single action I ever made.

What about Grim?

… How do you know about Grim?

We’ve kept a watchful eye on you for a long time now. Read your files on him to.

I do not wish to speak of him!

We will speak of him if I say so. You are the one in chains right now.

Fine… what do you want to know?

Tell me about the Argent project.

Author's Note
