The Crazed Blue Bat
The Crazed Blue Bat
Load Full StoryA unicorn mare with a dark grey coat, and blackish-blue mane was trotting through the woods on her way back to her little cottage deep within the forest. She had just finished shopping and was on her way home. But something wasn't right... She felt as if something was watching her. Something up in the trees. Ignoring it, assuming it to be some curious squirrel or more likely than not her slight fear of the dark kicking in as the sky above got darker. Several years ago she and her friends would hide up in her parents old creaky attic and tell ghost stories... One in particular that her friend, a blue batpony made up. The story told of a thestral being that stalked the forest at night, searching for pray to feast upon. Even though now, grown up and as tough as Storm was, those stories did still affect her though she knew it was made up.
Up in the dark sky, the blue batpony glided far enough behind her target to where she could see it, but it couldn't see her. Seeing that her prey was nearing a clearing, she decided it was her chance to strike. With a few flaps of her leathery wings, she descended closer and closer towards her food, until she had silently landed, only a few feet away. As silent as a mouse, she creeped up, fangs at the ready.
The pony in front of her was humming a tune. A familiar tune at that. It was an old song she had once made with an old friend of hers. Way back before she left town to become a creepy creature of the night. Humming along silently in her head, she hadn't been paying attention to her footing and stepped on a small twig. An audible CRACK filled the air, and the mare ahead jumped from the sudden sound with a yelp, swiftly twisting around and sucker punching the bat that was behind her.
"Ow! What was that for!?" She yelled out, grabbing her face in slight pain. The punch hadn't been too hard, but it still hurt.
Recognizing the voice, the unicorn squinted, trying to see through the darkness of the night. Just barely seeing the blue coat and bat wings, she had an idea on who it might be. But it couldn't be who she thought,
right?
"C-cosmic?! Is that you?"
The bat pony's eyes widened upon hearing the voice of the unicorn, faintly remembering who that voice belonged to... What was her name though?
"... S...Storm..?" the figure asked back. The unicorn mare lit up her horn to get a better look at the shadowy figure, confirming her suspicions. Seeing the familiar mare, Storm leaped at her, embracing her long lost friend in a tight hug. Something Cosmic was not at all prepared for. The sudden action caught her off guard, causing them both to tumble to the damp and dirty path.
They hadn't seen each other in what felt like forever, so the action wasn't much of a surprise, but cosmic still wasn't quite sure how to reacted.
"Uhh... Hey?" She said awkwardly. Sure, two friends reuniting was nice, but the mare on top of her still embracing her with a hug even though she was supposed to be her... Ahem... Birthday dinner and dessert.
"Where have you been? Everypony misses you back home!" Storm exclaimed. Still hugging the blue bat pony.
"I've been... You know... Doing stuff... Things y'know?" Cosmic answered. In her head she was kinda glad to see a familiar face, but was still considering feeding off her... She hasn't had much sustenance the past few days.
"You can tell me all about it at my place! Its only like what? 10 minutes from here? I was heading home just now anyways so might as well right?" Storm kept pummeling Cosmic with ideas and suggestions. She even suggested to her friend to stay the night and catch up a bit. Which to Cosmic didn't sound too bad. She'd been living in a damp, dank hole for awhile so might as well, right?
"Um... I don't know about th-" She was cut off by Storm,
"C'mon! Please? It's been so long! I have nopony else to talk to!" With a sigh from Cosmic, she finally nodded and said,
"Fiiine... But I'm not staying the night... I can't."
"Dangit... Well I'll take what I can get." Storm said before hopping off her friend and continuing down the trail, with a skip in her step. Cosmic pulled herself to her hooves and followed her old friend. Stalking a few feet behind, as lurking around was pretty much second nature wherever she went nowadays. The rain slowly picked up, with the occasional crack of thunder. About 10 minutes had past with no conversation between the two mares, as they finally reached Storm's humble little shack in the middle of the forest. A nice small cottage with a fair sized garden by it's side as well as a quaint little pond on the other. It was a good looking place.
Storm pulled out a key from her saddlebag, inserting it into the lock on the door and twisting it. With a click, she pushed the door open and a faint creak could be heard. Storm trotted in, lighting up her horn, causing all the lamps and lanterns to spark to life, illuminating the living room of the home with a low, comfy glow. Upon entering, Cosmic closed the door behind her, as to not let the heat out that suddenly smacked her in the face. It was pretty toasty in here. Which made sense. The trees of the forest was dense and it rained quite often so there was always a bit of a chill.
"So! Welcome to my place!" Storm chirped. She trotted to her kitchen and tossed her saddlebags on the counter, unpacking the contents within.
Cosmic walked in, taking in the surprisingly dark colored walls and gray couches. There was nothing brightly colored in the house aside from Cosmic herself.
"It's... Pretty nice. A little dark though." She said. She could hear fumbling and fidgeting coming from the kitchen, but decide the plop down on a couch rather then investigate.
"Thanks! And yeah, I kinda like darker stuff now. Everypony changes from time to time." Storm said. A moment of silence passed.
Cosmic pulled herself up off the couch and finally trotted over to the kitchen. "Hey Storms? I'm a little hungry. You got anything good here?" She asked.
"Yeah, I've got cookies, salads, hayrolls, hayburgers, pizza, all sorts of stuff. You name it, I got it." She responded, finishing up her task by putting the last few groceries in there respective places.
"I was thinking something a little more juicy..." Cosmic replied. Her hunger for blood growing stronger by the minute. It didn't help that Storm's neck looked so darn biteable.
"hmm... I've got... Apples? They're juicy." Cosmic shook her head,
"Those won't do... I need something a little thicker then that."
"Why? You on some sort of diet or something?" Storm asked, looking over to her friend.
"I...guess you could call it that." Cosmic answered.
"Well then come on! Tell me what you need and I'll figure something out." Storm said, determined to help her out.
"It isn't that simple," Cosmic said, grabbing a stool at the island and sitting down, facing away from Storm,
"Remember that story? Waaaay back up in your mums attic? I told you a story about a bloodthirsty batpony in the forests?" Storm tilted her head, staring at Cosmic with a puzzled look, not knowing where this was going.
"...Yeah..?" Storm answered. "What about it?" Cosmic looked around nervously. This could go one of two ways. Either she could get what she was needing, or she'd be chased out of the house by a mad mare wielding a broom. She finally looking up at Storm and spoke up.
"I sorta kinda maybe wanted to be like that... And I was also born with the ability. That's why I left town all those years ago to live out here... And I may or may not be a little...hungry right now..."
Storm just stared, processing what she'd just heard. Realising what had been said, a flash of horror appeared on her face but was quickly replaced by a... Happy expression? "That... Is... So cool! Y-you haven't... killed anypony because of it though... Right?" Hearing her own words, a drop of horror showed itself through her face again.
"No! I usually just... Sneak up on them, take what I need and leave before they even knew what happened." Cosmic answered. She was growing hungrier.
"Ok good... But, wait..." A moment of silence pasted... "You... Were sneaking up on me... Were you gonn-" Storm was cut off.
"I didn't know it was you! Also you still haven't apologised for punching me!" Cosmic half shouted. Storm looking down, embarrassed she forgot that she hurt her friend.
"Oh... Yeah sorry about that... And, um, if you really want to you can feed off me as an 'I'm sorry' gift." Gift... Why did that word bounce around in her head for a few moments. She glanced up at the calendar and read the date. April 23. Storm shot her eyes up at Cosmic and spoke, "It can be a birthday gift!"
Cosmic was touched that her old friend remembered her birthdate. She never was one to mention her birthday to others. The singing of 'happy birthday' was always a little humiliating. But right now, she was more interested in the offer.
"R-really? Are you sure?" Cosmic asked, with a hopeful look in her green eyes.
"Yeah! I've always wondered what it would feel like... Now I might be able to find out! Hmm... But where to do it..." Storm thought for a moment. Without a word being said afterwards, Storm skipped through the kitchen and to the couch, where it would probably be more comfortable then just standing. Cosmic followed behind. Storm sure was excited to be bit and have blood sucked from her... Which could come off as pretty weird if it hadn't been for her already weird nature. Before she could sit beside Storm, she was stopped by a hoof.
"How about you try sneaking up on my like you were gonna do in the woods? I'll just sit here and pretend like I don't know you're here." Storm said, causing Cosmic to tilt her head in confusion.
"Wha?" Was all she could manage to say.
...Minutes later...
Storm was relaxing on the couch watching the fire place crackled and pop while a warm radiance washed over the living room, completely oblivious to the shadowy hanging from the rafters. It dropped down, and with a few flap of its wings and landing without a sound. It slowly creeped up to the unsuspecting mare, with a wild hungry look in its eyes. As it slowly and silently approached it prey, a forked tongue licked over its teeth, readying to pounce. It was only a foot away when suddenly, it leaping at its prey from behind, boaring its sharp fangs down into its neck. A yelp escaped the helpless pony as she could feel blood being drawn and sucked up by the creature behind her. A sharp pain pierced her neck and she winced in pain, before quickly fading to a tingly sensation.
"Ow! ...Oo-ooohh that actually feels kind of good.." Storm said, cooing softly. Admittedly Cosmic, who was currently sucking blood out of her friends neck, found that kinda weird but oddly made her want to keep going. Making sure to only take what she needed and not completely draining Storm of blood, she sat for a few more moments before gently pulling away as to not hurt Storm's neck upon exiting. "Aww... Over so soon?" Storm said, looking over at Cosmic with a sad expression.
Cosmic could only half giggle at her friend. "You're weirder then I remember." Cosmic flapped her wings a few times to get enough air to easily hop over and onto the couch with Storm. Satisfied with what she got, she just laid back and smiled.
Moments pass, Storm rubbing her neck where she was bitten. She had to admit, she enjoyed it. But nopony needed to know. Slowly, a smell creeped into Cosmic's nose. A very familiar and welcome smell... Mangoes. "Storm... Mango... Where?" She asked, looking over at Storm.
"Uhm... Kitchen... In the fruit basket on the island." like a rocket Cosmic bolted off the couch and into the kitchen, only to fly out and plop back onto the couch holding the biggest and ripest mango, slowly nibbling and noming on it. "I forgot how much you liked those. Call it a... Dessert." Storm said, laying back on the couch, once again watching the warm fire crackle away.
Minutes past - that felt like several tasty hours for Cosmic as she fully ate through the entire hoof sized mango. Savoring the sweet mango'y juices, Cosmic eventually got up, stretching before saying,
"Welp. I should get going. Thanks for everything, I'll be sure to come by some time." Storm frowned at this.
"Really? Why not stay the night? Its pretty bad out there..."
"Sorry Storms, but I got a home of my own to attend to." Cosmic trotted towards the door.
"Pleeease?" Storm pleaded while cosmic was just about to turn the door handle. "I'll give you more Mangoes!" Cosmic stopped dead in her tracks, ears twitching perking up even more then they were before.
"...How many?" she asked in a low, serious voice.
"About... 5 more? Maybe 6?" Storm answered. Cosmic turned a full 180 and darted to the kitchen within merely a second.
The End
Author's Note
Hope you enjoyed this piece of pony randomness! This is a bit of a test to see if anyone likes this as well as the characters. Though likely only one will make it into the bigger project. (dubbed "Project Stop Procrastinating And Write, Dammit!" by me.)
Do leave some feedback assuming anyone finds this.
Also tell me if you like this little one shot. I'd be happy with doing more with these versions of the characters if that's what people want. Other stories that may come with these characters won't have the personalities they have here because again this was just to test the waters.
ALSO, LEMME KNOW ABOUT MISSPELLING AND SCREW UPS SO I CAN FIX IT!
