Cupcakes & Smiles
ACT TWO: CUPCAKES & DREAMERS
Previous ChapterACT TWO: CUPCAKES & DREAMERS
Shadows creep across the once gloriously bright Equestria as the Princess of the sun tries her best to imitate her sisters ways with the night sky. A half asleep Pinkamina glances towards the shadows that create images of a scared and sad Lagoon, the sight of her brother in distress wakes Pinkamina and makes her jump into a defensive state launching her poor blanket into the air forcing it to do a series of barrel rolls before reaching the ground. The sick shadow puppetry continues as Pinkamina is surrounded by images of Lagoon alone and terror stricken, she grabs her silk blanket adorned with bright stars and waves it into the shadows, but its far to dark to be of any use.
Pinkamina brushes the dirt of her blanket and wraps herself in its comforting embrace. "This is foalish, how can I help Lagoon if I'm letting my imagination get to me." Pinkamina lay back down and closed her eyes, but it was a small victory as she could hide from the shadows but the sorrow remained.
Pinkie Pie dreamed of a grown mare standing proud over smiling ponies on top of a castle made of cupcakes surrounded by a milkshake moat and chocolate cannons, the mare was a pony who could face anything head on with an unfaltering smile.
Pinkie Pie woke up next to Granny Pie but pretended to still be asleep as she wanted to stick to Granny Pie like frosting to a cupcake.
"I can tell your awake Pinkie."
Pinkie was quick and cunning responding with."Can't hear you I'm asleep." Well the quick part was true.
"What a shame." Granny said dramatically.
Pinkie snickered.
"Guess I'll have to eat these cupcakes all on my own."
Pinkie shot up like a rocket. "No wait!"
"Gotcha."
Pinkie and Granny munched on last nights cupcakes while making idle chit chat.
"I had an interesting dream last night." Pinkie said with curiosity.
"Oh! I had a dream where I flied to the moon in a Swiss roll rocket, oddly the place was filled with cheesecakes."
Granny noticed Pinkie was to lost in thought to focus on her dream which was a shame cause she really wanted to discuss moon cheesecakes.
"What is it Pinkie?"
"It's my dream, I saw a mare, she looked so serious and determined but about the silliest things, I really wanted to reach out to her, but it was just a dream."
"Hmm, I think I know just the pony your looking for."
"Really!"
"Yep, she's right here in this house."
Pinkie started to run around the house popping out of cupboards, vases, and bags of cake mix in search of this mysterious mare.
"Over here Pinkie!"
Pinkie dashed over to Granny Pie who was holding up a mirror to her.
"I'm looking for a pony Granny, not a mirror."
Pinkie was about to return to her frantic search when Granny said. "Look again Pinkie."
Pinkie looked into the mirror and engaged her reflection in a contest of who could look the most confused, but then it struck her what Granny was trying to say.
"What, no way, I couldn't compete with her Granny, she had a cupcake castle."
"Well she does sound like a pretty hard mare to live up to but..."
"Cup. Cake. Castle."
"But, if you take away your imagination from the dream than perhaps this is a vision, a vision from the fuuuuture." Granny said shaking her hooves for emphases.
"Well when you put it that way it is awfully convincing."
"Great, now I can tell you about the moon cheesecakes."
Granny and Pinkie continued to talk about moon cheesecakes and cupcake castles for hours, both ponies eager to take in as much of each others company as they could.
"I guess we shouldn't delay any longer Pinkie."
"Yeah." Pinkie said knowing this was her destiny and she couldn't hide from it any longer.
"You really should look more happy Pinkie, your'e going to be on your very own adventure and your sure to form countless friendships."
Pinkie looked at her caring Granny Pie and bounced to life."Oki doki loki."
The spontaneous mood change made Granny Pie chuckle. "See Pinkie you've already got me smiling." With both ponies in a happy mood, Granny got her mind on track. "Now remember Pinkie, not everything's gonna be cupcakes and smiles."
"No fair I love those."
"Don't worry Pinkie its part of the experience and often part of the fun. Iv'e already filled your C.C.Suit..."
"see see what?"
"C.C.Suit, you know that pink belt jacket thing you wear."
"Oh yeah, I hardly got a look at the thing cause as soon as I put it on you started throwing cupcakes at me."
"Sorry I was excited, But back to the C.C.Suit, I've filled it with enough cupcake ingredients to last you over a month, but remember you'll be making cupcakes for ponies you meet as well so stock up whenever you can."
Pinkie looked at her pink C.C.Suit, it was designed to be agile and had two small pockets on the sides of her front legs that looked like they could only hold a couple of cupcakes. There was also one slightly wider pocket on her chest, did Granny Pie eat the burnt side of a cupcake this morning, there's no way these pockets could hold so many cupcakes. Pinkie hesitantly slipped into the Pinkie Pie pink utility belt and was shocked how it seemed to fade away before her very eyes, she felt for the pocket on her chest and opened it.
The sight, oh the sight. It was like joy, happiness, and all things good in the world combined and created A MOUNTAIN OF CUPCAKES SHE COULD FIT IN A TINY POCKET! Surely this must be a dream. "Ouch" Pinkie said after Granny pinched her. "Not dreaming then." Pinkie said still transfixed on the portal to cupcake glory.
"Your Great Granny and I were friends with Starswirl the bearded himself, he was one of Equestria's greatest magicians..."
Beams of light brighter than the sun itself seemed to leap forth from Pinkies leg, there was no outside world, only a pale comparison to the wonders before her naked eyes.
"...He was a little abrasive at first but when he had a taste of our cupcakes he figured it must have been some kind of bizarre magic..."
Pinkie Pie plunged a hoof into the sea of cupcakes and it took all of her will not to try and dive in there. She could smell the aroma of cake batter and frosting seamlessly melding to herself.
"...After we got one of Equestria greatest minds doing a chicken dance and playing pin the tail on the pony, he felt he had to give us a gift in return and... Pinkie are you okay? Pinkie!" Granny vigorously shaked Pinkie out of her trance.
"Cupcakes! Oh sorry Granny, kinda lost myself there."
"Those pockets are powerful stuff Pinkie, be careful how you use them."
"What would happen if I jumped in."
"Don't even think about it, I'm not entirely sure what would happened if you did, but I'm certain it would be no fun."
"If you say so."
"On your left you have all your tools and ingredients for making cupcakes, on your right you have an empty pocket, and on your chest you have..."
"Cupcakes!"
"I guess that's everything then, all ready to go on your adventure." Granny said with see through enthusiasm.
"Yeah... just like you and great granny." Pinkie was feeling scared about being away from Granny, finding her own way through Equestria and meeting tons of new ponies.
But than she saw Granny Pies smile edging dangerously close to a frown, and all her thoughts were gone. Almost without even thinking she dashed over to Granny Pie in a pink blur and picked her of the ground with a tight hug. "There's nothing to be sad about Granny cause I'm gonna make tons of friends and cheer them up with tasty cupcakes and sing songs when their feeling down and nopony will be able to resist having a fun time and with there confidence and smiles up I'll be able to help them with there problems and at the end of the day we'll all eat hundreds of cupcakes and drink milkshakes cause there like a tasty snack but in the form of a drink and you can even put chocolates in them you could have a chocolate milkshake topped with chocolates and chocolate sprinkles."
Granny Pie was completely shocked, she'd seen spontaneity from Pinkie before but this was a whole new level, she had no idea what to say, so she smiled and embraced Pinkies hug.
The Sun burns away the shadows and drifts Pinkamina away from her inner demons. She attempts to lose herself to her surroundings, but she couldn't relax, not until she had a plan for finding Lagoon, so instead she started to dig a grave for her television. The ground was surprisingly soft and easy to break through, it was as if somepony dug this specific spot of ground as some kind of gesture to her and it filled Pinkamina with an odd sense that she wasn't completely alone. She heaved the television into the hole then returned the hill to its previous peace.
Pinkamina looked out to her view of Equestria, it usual left here tranquil and breezy but this time seeing the vast view filled her with panic and adrenaline, Lagoon could be heading to anywhere in Equestria, but she had a start, there's only one road here and Pinkamina was lucky enough to see what direction the car carrying Lagoon went.
Pinkamina spent her life gazing into Equestria with wonder, wishing to meet all the ponies that made it such a magical place and celebrated its beauty, she was planing on leaving home with Lagoon once he truly understood their situation.
And now Pinkamina has achieved her goal, she and her brother are far away from her parents and are venturing through Equestria. But Pinkamina was robed of any sense of victory, and the fact that this was what she fought for filled her with guilt.
But even though she achieved her goal with harsh ripples, she has been successful, she just has to keep strong and find Lagoon. Pinkamina will use this knowledge as a cleansing light to vanquish the shadows of guilt.
Pinkamina fashioned her blanket into a cape and charged over the unexplored side of the hill, she had rehearsed the act so many times it felt like she controlled the wind that blew through her mane and the grass that slammed against her hooves. Nothing could escape her grasp as she tore through the tranquil sunrise like a hurricane. That is until the hurricane hits her little hoof on a rock and trips over. Well, almost nothing can escape her grasp.
Pinkie Pie and Granny Pie leisurely walk through their garden as the first Autumn leaves begin to fall, in a matter of minutes the vast green grass will be covered by crisp dark yellow leaves. The two pink ponies sit on a tree stump looking out at the sunrise shining gloriously through the blanket of falling leaves, a leaf falls on Pinkies nose making the ponies share a chuckle.
"I remember when you were a tiny filly and I saw you picking up the falling leaves in a panic, you asked me what was happening to them and what could we do to help. I wanted to cheer you up so I told you the grass was feeling lonely and the leaves wanted to help so they left their homes to play with the grass, but then you felt bad for moving the leaves and I had to promise you the leaves had forgiven your mistaken and found your intentions as sweet as a cupcake, and then your couldn't stop smiling."
"You always could get me to smile." Pinkie said as she gave Granny Pie a hug.
"So could you."
Celestias sun rose above the clouds and gracefully outshines all.
Pinkie Pie leaps from the tree trunk and stood tall, she had to take charge and show Granny she could take care of herself.
Granny Pie stood up and looked at Pinkie, she was wearing a fearless expression that only made her look even more adorable, she could tell Pinkie Pie was trying to make her feel better which assured her that Pinkie was ready for this Journey.
"If you only remember one thing I say Pinkie, Remember, any problem can be solved with a smile."
"Don't be silly Granny, I'll remember everything you say."
Granny Pie tilted her head preparing to turn her back on the pony she'd laughed everyday with for the past ten years, but she then went back to Pinkies eyes and said. "One last thing Pinkie."
"Yes Granny."
"Smile for me."
Pinkie Pie pulled a huge cheesy grin.
Granny Pie smiled to Pinkie, then turned around and casually walked towards her empty home. She heard Pinkie Pie bouncing through the autumn leafs, and when she got to her door she turned around to see a cotton candy silhouette in the distance.
After ten years of singing, laughing, and baking, Granny Pie finally let her smile fall down, but she knew it didn't matter, because she had Pinkie to hold it up.
