Equestria 101: history of Alicorns
Celestia's breaking point
Previous ChapterPrincess Celestia, the sun goddess of Equestria had been sent many letters. For the first time in while, the ponies wondered about her race. Every letter she read said the same thing. Celestia didn't like sharing the history of her race, considering she had been there when the "end of Alicorns" came. It came to the point where Celestia wouldn't even read the letters, she'd just have them burned. Even if she tried to rid of the many questions, the only thing Celestia found she had no power over was the mind. After the many visits with the questions, and the oven overflowing with ashes, she finally decided it time for someone to know the history of her own race. She only called for the most trusted of subjects, and...friends.
Twilight never cared for what happened to Alicorn race, but she guessed no books were made with LOTS of detail of their history, and if Celestia is the oldest Alicorn living, might as well give it a try. Fluttershy really didn't WANT to know, the reason, she was scared of what was to come from Celestia's mouth. Fluttershy kept having thoughts of the scariest things Celestia could say about Alicorns, but it was her race, so if anything scary was to be said, Celestia would try to aviod it. Why? Scary things are negative things. Rarity was bounding ahead, so excited to hear the Princess' story of her own childhood, before Equestria was even called by it's name. Rainbow Dash was in Twilight's mood, she could care less, but that's it. Applejack continued talking and talking and talking, but no-one listened to her. Pinkie pie wasn't hopping in her usual way, maybe feeling like Fluttershy? Twilight? No-one knew how Pinkie felt, but she wasn't so excited.
Three little fillies followed the mane 6 down the hall as excited as ever! Maybe they'd learn something that would give them thier cutie mark!....but, less likley they would. Finally, all stopped in front of a wooden door, a giant wooden door to be exact. Twilight knocked on the door, yelling her name loud and clearly enough. Then the door opened and the ponies were greeted by Luna, who looked different, but nothing in height changed...maybe an inch or two. The ponies entered the room, and realized it was the royal bedroom. A table was set in the middle of the room. A long table for all of them to sit, stand, whatever. Standing at the end of the table was Celestia, who was flpping through an old book. It must had been as old as the princess herself, beacause the cover was nearly gone, words were faded, and pages pulled out or torn. On the cover, though it was hard to make out, was a title, Twilight was first to realized what it said, it read "SOLAR and LUNAR". At first, Twilight thought it was a childhood book that Celestia and Luna used to read, but it turned out it was a jounal. Celestia finally looked up, she had a serious face, she didn't talk, no greeting.
The ponies waved, but the cold seriousness stayed in the room. Finally, Celestia spoke. "Please gather around the table." and with that she returned to the journal. The whole room was quiet, but too quiet for some. Twilight decided to start a conversation, though she may had chosen the wrong words to start off with. "Princess, is this a journal of yours?" Twilight pointed at the journal on the desk. Celestia looked up, same expression on her face, the "meh" face. "It is not, it belongs to my mother, goddess of dawn." Celestia said, no real emotion put into the words, just a normal answer. Apparently, Celestia wasn't in the mood for a convo. Twilight decided to leave the princess alone and start conversations with her friends. Yet, the silence was too eerie, and it made the ponies too nervous to talk. They may say a sentence or two, but not a real conversation. Some didn't even say a full sentence, they'd just say "oh" or "um" or "uh".
Finally, the princess stopped flipping through pages, and returned to the first page. "Now you came here for?" she asked. "We want to know the history of your race." Twilight answered. "Well, then. Just know, some things I will tell you, you'll forget, but others may permanently be etched into your brain. Fluttershy started to whimper. She wondered what would get etched into her brain, she knew it would be things she didn't want stuck in there. "Can't we just get it over with?!" Rainbow yelled. Celestia glared at Rainbow, but instantly looked down at her journal. "Rainbow, don't say things like that in front or too the princesses!" Twilight scolded, of course she would say it. Celestia let out a small sigh, the room seemed to be less comfortable everytime she did that. Finally, Celestia began her lesson. "Now many wonder how alicorns formed in this world. How they came to Equestria. Why they are so rare, ec cetera.
"Entry 1, First born child. Finally after centuries of waiting, my little filly, would be born..." Celestia stopped to see Twilight thinking...of a question. "Yes, Ms. Sparkle?" Twilight stopped thinking for a moment and faced the princess. Obviously, she was expecting a question, though in reality, Twilight was daydreaming. "um...Well, how come Alicorns take so long to form?" The purple mare asked, blushing due to being called out. Princess Celestia summoned a book to her (not real summoned, like POOF, it's right in front of her), she bagan flipping through pages and read it aloud. "The Alicorn, being a very complex species, takes a century to form, while the lesser species only take about a year. Due to the Alicorn having both a pair of wings, and a horn, they must develop both these parts before exiting the womb. If a meant to be Alicorn is born without one of these parts, these would be deformites, causing problems among the race." Celestia looked up at Twilight. Twilight looked at Celestia, but turned back to the table. That expression the princess had was too much to handle. "Does that answer your question, Ms. Sparkle?" Twilight looked up, and nodded. She turned back around, feeling a bit uncomfortable, not only due to the eerie silence, but the princess calling Twilight "Ms. Sparkle", it was like Celestia just met Twilight.
To be honest, all the ponies around he table were uncomfortable, Rarity didn't even glance at the princess, nor her sister (Celestia's sister). Rainbow Dash just nervously clopped (not the fan term clop...). Pretty much, niether one of the princesses made the meeting better, they both had that one smug expression, and it wouldn't changed. The two sisters may had seemed cruel at this point, with not talking to anyone, calling them by names you wouldn't expect, ect, but deep inside it was only pain, nothing could actually fix that, they just hid it. The only option...anger. Twilight knew something was up, so when it seemed, no-one would be talking, she began. "Princess Celestia and Luna, I get you may not be happy at this point, but I KNOW you aren't mad, so what's up?" Twilight asked. Celestia looked up, only glared at Twilight, and looked back at the journal. Celestia then spoke. "The thing about is, that it's what is in this journal, that haunts me." Then Luna joined in. "Our mother wrote the most horrible things in there, still have nightmares." The 6 looked at both princesses. Twilight then asked. "Horrible things?" Celestia answered. "There are things in here, I read at a young age. Over 1,000 years old and I still remember it. It's a thought I wish I could make dissapear." The room fell silent once again.
"And Luna? What is it with her?" Twilight asked. No answer. Twilight officaly believed that the princesses were dead inside (only for now =D). Yet, Twilight had so many questions to ask them, the mood they had in here just wasn't what Twilight would expect. Celestia was always cheerful out the castle. Never called Twilight, Ms. Sparkle, just said hello. Sure, Luna was always serious, but this wasn't this serious Luna wasn't like the Luna she met on that one Nightmare Night. Soon, Celestia spoke again. "If this is boring you, I can make it more interesting." She said, looking around the room. Rainbow Dash jumped up. "Really?! How?!" Celestia didn't react to Rainbow Dash's response, or actions. "I can take you to the actual time as the journal goes on." She said. Rainbow landed back on the ground. Twilight began thinking again. "Um...Princess, wouldn't this cause paradoxes. Your younger self meeting your older self, I mean." Twilight asked. Celestia shook her head. "No, it wouldn't. As no-one in the past or if we travel to the future at all, in the future will hear or see us." "Yet time-travel is still a dangerous thing to attempt." Luna explained. "If done incorrectly, we could be stuck in time or a limbo, with no way back." "Any that choose to stay here?" Celestia asked. Fluttershy wanted to stay, but she didn't want to be left alone. "Okay, then." Celestia said, then she walked over to the closet and pulled out a board. A wooden board.
Celestia put the board in the center of the table, and lifted up a quill beside her. Everyone stared at Celestia and the board. Celestia put the quill back in the ink pot and looked at the image, making sure there were no mishaps. Celestia finally put her horn to the board. Her horn glowed and image glowed also. She lifted her head to check if it was strong enough. "Everyone jump in, and quickly. This will close in a few seconds." she said. Everyone jumped in. Luna was last before Celestia jumped in. "If you're a pegasus, I need you to open your wings and glid! Unicorns form a forcefield around yourself! Earth ponies...well, pray that you live!" Celestia yelled. When they were reaching the exit point, a white hole could be seen, as they got closer, they noticed a peice of land. Then, they were dropped out. It was rough landing, but it was worth it, because what they saw next was a paradise.
