Derpy Hooves sits in the living room of her house as she waits for Mal to come and spend the night with her.
Mal has lived in Ponyvile for a few years, arriving about four or five years ago.
He's a human that often gets bigoted remarks thrown at him by ponies due to how much crime is caused by small groups of humans in Equestria.
Mal and Derpy have been dating for several months now, but their relationship goes further back.
Mal and Derpy first met when Mal arrived in Ponyvile, his reason behind moving from Manehatten to Ponyvile was to get away from the hustle of the city. That and there was a lot of crime going on.
For Mal, the day on which he arrived in Ponyvile was a beautiful day filled with new opportunity.
For Derpy, however, it was another dark and grim day of being beaten by local bullies.
Flashback.
"Weird eyed freak! You're worse than a blank flank!" A mare yells as she kicks Derpy in the stomach.
"Pl-please... I-I j-just want to go home..." Derpy begs through her tears.
"Shut up!" Another bully yells as he punches Derpy in the face.
The bullies continue beating Derpy up and insulting her, starting to rip her clothes until a young human teenager wearing blue jeans and a black leather jacket shows up.
"HEY!!! Leave her alone!" The human says as he charges at the biggest of the bullies, knocking them to the ground.
The other bullies, scared that someone actually took down their muscle, run away in fear.
"You alright?" The human asks as he looks at Derpy, her face slightly bloody and bruised.
"Ye-yeah... Th-thanks f-for getting them off of me." Derpy says weakly, hiding her eyes from her hero.
"You're welcome. Why were they hurting you anyway?" The human asks calmly.
"M-my eyes.... They were hurting me b-because my eyes aren't... Right..." Derpy says as she starts to sob, showing the colt her eyes.
"Well, for one thing, that's a horrible reason to even think about harming someone. Second, I think your eyes are beautiful." The human says happily.
"Re-really? Y-you're not just saying that, are you?" Derpy asks through tears.
"I'm saying it because it's true. By the way, I'm Mal. I just moved here from Manehatten, figured I'd take in the sights. Glad I decided to stop by the alley." Mal says happily as he helps Derpy stand up.
"Th-thank you! I'm Derpy Hooves." Derpy responds happily.
"You're welcome! I can tell we are going to be the best of friends!" Mal exclaims happily. "Now come on, let's get you to the doctor."
Mal and Derpy made it to the hospital, and from that day forward, they were close friends, then they became more.

"No use begging, slut! You're going to get yours! A shame we have to gut you, but you're just too ugly to look at!" The lead thug exclaims as he and his goons start ripping Derpy's clothes off, holding various sharp weapons in their hands.

One of the thugs stabs her in the side, causing her to scream in pain.
"No can do! You're a dead mare!" The lead thug exclaims as he rips Derpy's bikini off.
"I'm going to tell you once. Let. Her. Go." Mal says sternly, having returned to get Derpy.

Mal shuts the door and makes sure the car is locked as he heads inside.
As they enter the hospital, the ponies and humans inside gasp as they look at the injuries on them.
Mal reaches the front desk and waits for the mare to notice him.
"Hello- Oh my Celestia! Wh-what happened?!" The receptionist mare asks loudly.
"We... We were at the beach... S-some thugs attacked her while I-I was gone... P-please.. G-get her s-some medical a-attent-ion..." Mal says through pants.
"Don't worry! We'll get you both fixed up!" The receptionist exclaims.
As the receptionist said, the doctors gave them great medical care, they were able to live after two days in the hospital.
Present.
Derpy cries a little, still blaming herself for her and Mal getting injured. She also still believes that Mal was only able to survive because someone came along and helped him.
"Derpy? You alright?" Mal asks as he notices Derpy crying sadly.
"Oh... I-it's nothing... I-I was just... Thinking.." Derpy says nervously, giving a vague but honest answer.
"Me too... You know, this isn't exactly the best movie to watch before bed." Mal says jokingly in a attempt to lighten the mood.
"Yeah. Wow... We're already at the final battle of the film? I must have really zoned out." Derpy says in amazement.
"I'll say. Don't worry, we can watch it again tomorrow if you want." Mal says happily, unaware of Derpy's intentions.
"Y-yeah... I guess so." Derpy says quietly, knowing that she won't be watching it ever again.
Once the movie is over, Mal and Derpy both yawn.
"Looks like we're both ready for bed. I'm just glad we get to spend time with each other!" Mal exclaims happily.
"Yeah! Me too!" Derpy responds happily.
They head for Derpy's bedroom and Mal lets Derpy get in bed first before cozying up to her lovingly.
"I have to take my medication real quick." Derpy says casually as she reaches for her sleeping pills.

"Derpy, you can't oversleep. We have a whole day planned." Mal says as he wraps his arms around Derpy and shakes her, she still does not wake up.
"Derpy? Come on, wake up!" Mal exclaims as he begins to panic, shaking Derpy rapidly.
Derpy's head turns to the side as he continues shaking her body, signifying the horrific truth.
"Derpy?! Please do not be dead! Derpy, please wake up!" Mal pleads in denial.
