Midnight Shadow, an earth pony living in Ponyville, discovers that he has a special talent for mechanical engineering. However, his inventions end up dragging him into a conflict between forces of light and darkness, with consequences far beyond what he had hoped for. With the fate of Equestria in the balance, and no way to return to his quiet life from before, he has only one option: keep going, and hope that a solution presents itself.
