Three young fillies - Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo and Apple Bloom - are old enough to get their starter Pokemon.
And to go on their own Pokemon adventure.

Starter Pokemon

Sweetie Belle's green eyes opened. She saw a note on the bedside table.
"Hm?" she hovered it over. I can barely read Rarity's hornwriting. It's somehow too cursive!
"Dear Sweetie Belle,
I'm sorry, darling, but I have to be at my Gym in the Crystal Empire. Remember that you're meeting Apple Bloom and Scootaloo at the train station to go to Canterlot!

Sweetie Belle yawned as she got out of bed. She hovered everything she'd need - her saddlebag, her Spike Pokedoll (it's in the comics, okay?), and a Potion. I'm excited to get my first Pokemon! EEEEEEEEEEE!!!
She ran out of her house and to the train station.

Apple Bloom bucked the tree as the apples fell into her saddlebag. "There! Some apples fer mah journey!"
She put her saddlebag on as she smiled. Ah wonder what Pokemon Twilight will give me. Hopefully a Grass-type like AJ and Babs and mah other family!
Apple Bloom skipped out of the orchards into Ponyville Adjacent, looking up at Cloudsdale.

"SCOOTALOO!" she yelled.
She got some strange glances but ignored it. She sighed. "Maybe ah'll just wait for 'er at the train station. Hopefully Sweetie Belle's there."
Apple Bloom exited the town, carefully walking through the route connecting Ponyville Adjacent with Ponyville, making sure to not step into any tall grass.

Scootaloo was the only one of the Crusaders who didn't need to be woken up. She did it on her own.
"Let's see... My Rainbow Dash Pokedoll, a Potion, my Holocaster..." did Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom even have Holocasters yet? She could probably get them some. She had plenty of Bits.

She exited her room, paying to use the Twinkling Balloon to get down.
It seemed to go by so fast, but oh well.
She flew out of the balloon as she flew to the train station.

"Sweets, Apple Bloom!" Scootaloo exclaimed. The two fillies looked to her, and Sweetie Belle smiled.
"The train's coming in a few minutes - c'mon!" Apple Bloom exclaimed. The train came as they jumped on it. "Aren't y'all excited ta get our first Pokemon?! 'Cause ah am! Ah better get a Grass-type - everypony in the Apple family does!"
"I want a Fire-type," Scootaloo said, "maybe one that evolves into a Flying-type! So... Charmander! Or I guess that Torchic would be close enough..."
"I just want a cute Pokemon! Do you think Pikachu's one of them? Or Pichu? Or Fennekin! Or -" Scootaloo put a hoof on her mouth. "Just... stop."

The train arrived as they jumped off of it. The three squealed all the way to the lab.
"Oh! Girls!" the unicorn turned to her.
"Why did you decide to be in Equestria instead of your world?" Scootaloo asked.
"Well all of us - and my friends - had to come here. For some reason..." Twilight sighed. "Anyways... Your Pokemon's Pokeballs are on the tab -"

"Professor Twilight!" Diamond Tiara pushed open the door. Silver Spoon was right behind her.
"Not again..." Sweetie Belle murmured.
"Where are mine and Silver Spoon's Pokemon?!" she exclaimed.
"Right here next to the Crusaders'." Twilight said.
"You mean the blank flanks?" Diamond Tiara asked.
"We! Have! Cutie Marks!" Scootaloo bellowed.

Sweetie Belle sighed, hovering a Pokeball over to her. "This one?"
"Yep!" Twilight said. She hovered the others' Pokeballs to them. "Here."
"How do you get the Pokemon out of them?" Scootaloo asked.
"Throw them up." Twilight answered. She threw up a Pokeball that she dug up from her saddlebag, revealing an Espeon.
"Espe!" it exclaimed.

Sweetie Belle hovered her Pokeball up, releasing it at its highest point. A Fennekin came out of the Pokeball.
"Fenn!" it exclaimed, jumping into her hooves.
"Aww! So cute!!" Sweetie Belle smiled.
Apple Bloom threw her Pokeball, which released a Bulbasaur. Scootaloo's released a...
"Torchic!"
"Are you kidding me?" Scootaloo grumbled. Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom couldn't help laughing.

Silver Spoon got a Piplup and Diamond Tiara a Snivy. They didn't say anything and simply left the lab, their Pokemon following.
"Spoiled fillies..." Apple Bloom murmured. "If ah'm correct we got our cutie marks from helpin' 'em, right?"
"Yeah." her friends answered.

"Well I wanna have a Pokemon battle!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed. "Against... Hm... Apple Bloom!"
"Why me Sweetie Belle? Why not Scoots?" Apple Bloom asked.
"I have a Fire-type~ You have a Grass-type~" Sweetie Belle smirked. "Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?"
Apple Bloom groaned. "Fine. Ah will."

"Go! Fennekin!" "Fenn!"
"Bulbasaur, ah choose y'all!" "Bulba!"
"Fennekin, use... er..." Sweetie Belle paused. "Twilight, we need Pokedexs."
"Oh! Right!" Twilight hovered a Pokedex over to her, and one to her friends.
"Fennekin, the Fox Pokémon. Fennekin expels hot air that can reach nearly 400 degrees. It likes to snack on twigs. This Fennekin is female. Fennekin knows the moves Scratch, Tail Whip, and Ember." Sweetie Belle's Pokedex said.
"Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokémon. A young Bulbasaur uses the nutrients from its seed for the energy it needs to grow. This Bulbasaur is female. Bulbasaur knows the moves Tackle, Growl and Vine Whip." Apple Bloom's said.

"Bulbasaur! Growl!" Apple Bloom exclaimed.
"Bul!" Bulbasaur growled.
Fennekin's ears flattened on her head as she braced against the loud sound. "Fennekin! Use..." she rubbed an ear with her hoof. "Use Ember!"
A small ball of fire hit Bulbasaur, who tried to dodge but failed.

"Tangle 'er in yer Vine Whip!" Apple Bloom exclaimed.
Vines grew from her bulb as they went toward Fennekin.
"Burn the vines!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed.
"Fenn!" the fire hit the vines, turning them into ashes before Bulbasaur pulled them back.

"Tackle 'er!" Apple Bloom yelled. Bulbasaur rammed into Fennekin, knocking her into the healing machine.
"Kin kin in..." Fennekin's eyes became spirals as she fainted.
"Fennekin!" Sweetie Belle hovered the Pokemon toward her, onto the healing machine. "Fennekin, come back!"
"Kin! Kin kin kin!" Fennekin shook her head.
Sweetie Belle sighed. "Okay then."

Sweetie Belle stuffed Fennekin's Pokeball in the saddlebag. Apple Bloom and Scootaloo tried to get their Pokemon in the Pokeballs, but they didn't want to go in.
"Well," Scootaloo sighed, "let's go back to Ponyville!"
"YEAH!" the three of them hoofbumped.

To Ponyville and Beyond!

Sweetie Belle skipped away from the lab, Scootaloo and Apple Bloom following.
"Ah hope we find some Grass-type Pokemon!" Apple Bloom exclaimed, as they boarded the Friendship Express.

"Route 101!" Sweetie Belle read the sign.
"Ah can't read so ah'm happy y'all read it for me." Apple Bloom said, entering the tall grass.
"You can't read?" Scootaloo asked. "..."

Scootaloo simply sighed as the three of them entered the grass.
"Cherub!"
"Did y'all hear that?" Apple Bloom asked. The other two fillies nodded.
"It sounds like a Pokemon." Sweetie Belle said. "But I don't see one..."

Fennekin started sniffing the air, before barking.
"Hm? Oh! What is it Fennekin?" Sweetie Belle asked, approaching Fennekin. "Footprints?"
The other fillies looked. "It seems like it."

Suddenly a small cherry-like Pokemon popped out from the bushes. "Cherubi!"
Sweetie Belle hovered her Pokedex out of her saddlebag, scanning Cherubi.
"Cherubi, the Cherry Pokémon. All of the nutrients needed for evolution are contained in its small ball. Cherubi becomes redder as it is exposed to sunlight, and is almost ready to evolve once the smaller ball buds." the Pokedex said. "This Cherubi is female and knows the moves Morning Sun and Tackle."

"Should ah?" Apple Bloom questioned Bulbasaur. The Pokemon nodded, jumping in front of Apple Bloom. "Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!"
Bulbasaur tangled Cherubi in vines, hitting her against a tree. "Rubi!"
Cherubi eyebrows furrowed as she tackled Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur stumbled back up as she managed to stand. "Tackle 'er!"
Bulbasaur rammed into the cherry Pokemon, who fell over. "Ru... bi..."
The small ball attached to the leaf on her head bobbed back and forth as Apple Bloom threw a Pokeball at Cherubi.

"1... 2..." the Pokeball dinged, as she smiled and picked it up, "mah first caught Pokemon!"
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur exclaimed.

"Well I guess now me and you should try to find some Pokemon," Sweetie looked at Scootaloo, "correct?"
"Yeah." Scootaloo said. She flew away to an area with some trees, Torchic following.

Suddenly a flock of Fletchlings flew out of the tree. "Whoa!!"
"Torchic, use Peck on..." Scootaloo scanned the flock, seeing one with an injured wing, "... Torchic, talk to that one. With the injured wing."
Torchic nodded, climbing up the tree and talking to the Fletchling. "Chic chic chic! Tor!"
The Fletchling turned, before falling.

"Gasp! Chic!" Torchic exclaimed. Scootaloo gasped, flying beneath her and catching her. "Gotcha!"
She flew back to the ground, examining the Pokemon. "Are you okay?"
No response.
Her eyes begun to open. "Fletch?"
"You're awake!" Scootaloo exclaimed. "Are you okay?"
"Fletch..." she motioned to her wing.
"Sweetie Belle?" Scootaloo asked. Her marefriend nodded, approaching and putting her horn on Fletchling's wing as it healed.

Sweetie Belle smiled, pulling out a Pokeball from her bag, tossing it into the air, releasing a cat-like Pokemon.
"Kitty!" it exclaimed.
Scootaloo and Apple Bloom were silent. Scootaloo pulled her Pokedex out of her saddlebag.
"Skitty, the Kitten Pokémon. Skitty will get completely caught up in pursuing any moving objects that catches its eye. This Skitty is female and she knows the moves Copycat, Double Slap, Disarming Voice and Attract." the Pokedex said.
"Skit!" Skitty exclaimed. She saw her tail twitching and begun to bite it. "Skit skit skit kit kit kit..."
"It's so..." Scootaloo was cut off.
"She." Sweetie Belle said.
Scootaloo sighed. "She's so... cute? I mean that's fine but still... How is she going to be powerful in Gym Battles?"
"I don't want to fight all the Gym Leaders. I want to compete in contests!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed. "I found Skitty and realized that she would be perfect for contests!"
"Skit!" Skitty exclaimed, kneading Sweetie Belle's leg.

"Well there it is!" Scootaloo exclaimed. Fletchling perched on her wing, which was out. "Ponyville!"

Author's Note

Yes that was a Friendship is Witchcraft reference at the beginning. ("Ah can't read so ah'm happy y'all read it for me." Apple Bloom said, entering the tall grass.)

The First Gym Battle

All of the Crusaders' Pokemon ran into Ponyville, with Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo close behind.
"We're here!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed. "Where's the Gym?"
"Is it in Sugarcube Corner?" Scootaloo asked. She approached a young filly and colt. "Where's the Gym?"
"Here!" the unicorn filly exclaimed. "Me and Pound will show you! C'mon Pound!"

Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake led the three of them to Sugarcube Corner.
"Our parents and Pinkie Pie work here! C'mon! We'll lead you to the Gym!" Pound exclaimed, his wings fluttering as they went up the stairs. They opened a secret entrance, sliding down.
Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom landed flanks first, whereas the Cake Twins did not.

"Hi Pound! Hi Pumpkin! Oh!" Pinkie Pie noticed the Crusaders. "Hi! You'll have to get through three battles with each of my sisters! And with Pound and Pumpkin! Good luck~"
She hopped away onto an area at the end, with a fox-like Pokemon following her.
"Well are you ready to fight?" Pound Cake asked. Scootaloo nodded.
"I'll fight you two first!" Scootaloo exclaimed. "And then... um..."
"Ah will!" Apple Bloom exclaimed.
"I'll be the judge!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed. Skitty and Fennekin followed her to the side of the battleground.

"Plusle!" "Minun!"
"Plus!" "Min!"
"Torchic, I choose you!" Scootaloo exclaimed. Torchic ran in front of her.
"Plusle, use Thundershock!" Pound Cake exclaimed.
Torchic tried to run out of the way but Plusle's Thundershock hit her.
"Torchic, use Ember on Minun!" Scootaloo exclaimed. A ball of fire exited his mouth and hurtled towards Minun.
Minun dodged the fireball and hit Torchic with Quick Attack.
"Chic!" Torchic exclaimed, getting knocked out of the way. His eyes turned to spirals as he fainted.
"F - Fletchling!" Scootaloo stammered. The bird flew in front of her. "Use Quick Attack on Plusle!"
Fletchling hit Plusle as he hurtled away, fainting.
"Plusle!" Pound Cake flew toward his Pokemon. "Pumpkin, you'll have to do this yourself! I need to get to the Pokemon Center!"
Pumpkin nodded as she exclaimed, "Minun, use Spark!"
Electricity gathered around Minun as it went toward Fletchling.
She managed to fly out of the way of the attack, going toward her in a twirling tackle. Blue energy surrounded her as in the aura she changed.
"Fletchinder!" she exclaimed.

Fletchinder hit Minun as she flew above it. "Chinder!"
"Fletchling, you evolved!" Scootaloo exclaimed. Pumpkin Cake ran toward her Pokemon as Scootaloo scanned Fletchinder with the Pokedex. Fletchinder, the Ember Pokémon, and the evolved form of Fletchling. Fletchinder flies faster and faster as the flame sac on its stomach gradually heats up."
"Scootaloo wins with Torchic and Fletchl - Fletchinder!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed.
"Well our Pokemon are beaten up so you can go onwards." Pumpkin said, teleporting out of the Party Cave.

The fillies fought all of Pinkie's sisters as Sweetie Belle teleported over to Pinkie.
"Hi Apple Bloom! And Sweetie Belle! And Scootaloo! LET'S FIGHT!!!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed. Next to her sat the same fox-like Pokemon. "Go, Swirlix!"
"Ah'll go first!" Apple Bloom exclaimed. "Bulbasaur!"
Bulbasaur jumped in front of her.
"I'll give you the first move!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed.
"Okay! Bulbasaur!" Apple Bloom whispered something incoherent in Bulbasaur's ear. She nodded. Vines came out from her bulb and touched Swirlix's tail. Swirlix was distracted, and she tangled her in vines.
"Swirlix!" Swirlix whimpered. Tears were coming out from her eyes. "Swirl!"
As the vines retracted Swirlix fainted. "Lix lix lix swirl..."
"Clefairy!" Pinkie Pie's mane tossed a Pokeball as a Clefairy came out. "Metronome!"
"Metronome?" Scootaloo asked. One of Clefairy's fingers wagged back and forth and glowed blue, as she pulled Bulbasaur into the sky.
"SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUR!" Bulbasaur yelled as she was thrown down from the sky and fainted.
Apple Bloom growled. "Cherubi!"
"Bibi!" Cherubi exclaimed.
"Use Leech Seed!" Apple Bloom exclaimed.
Seeds bloomed around Cherubi as they sucked some health from Clefairy, as they planted in the ground surrounding her.
"Dazzling Gleam!" Pinkie exclaimed. A flash of light dealed damage to Cherubi from the brightness, but after the seeds sucked health from Clefairy again.
"Fair... y..." Clefairy shook her head, jumping up. "Clefairy!"
Without Pinkie Pie saying to, she waggled her fingers again, using Metronome.
A loud sound came and its sound waves injured Cherubi, knocking her back. She braced against the attack and yet again used Tackle, fainting Clefairy.
"Sylveon!" the fox-like Pokemon jumped in front of her. "Use Attract!"
"Attract?" Apple Bloom asked. "They're the same gender!"
"Oh... crud..." Pinkie murmured. "Use Sparkly Swirl!"
A whirlwind with an overpowering scent surrounded Cherubi. She braced against it, but was low on health.
Sweetie Belle scanned her with her Pokedex. "Cherubi has one eighth of health left."
"CHEEEEEEEEEERUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!" Cherubi yelled, bumping into Sylveon multiple times. "Ru! Ru! Ru! Ru! Ru! Ru! Ru! Ru! Ru! Ru!"
Sylveon rolled her eyes, kicking Cherubi and fainting her.
Bulbasaur jumped up. "Bulba!"
"I think that she's saying she can fight." Sweetie Belle said. "I mean, I may or may not have healed her and Pinkie's Pokemon..."
Bulbasaur tangled Sylveon in vines, hitting her against the ground multiple times. "Bulb! Bul! Ba!"
Sylveon stood up with multiple scrapes, running toward Bulbasaur and using Swirly Swirl on her. Bulbasaur seemed unphased, and simply tackled her and Sylveon fainted.

"Sylveon is unable to battle! The winner is Apple Bloom!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed. She healed Cherubi and Sylveon, as they went back to their respective owners.
"Here!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed, handing her a badge that looked much like her Element of Harmony. "This is the Badge of Laughter."
The three Crusaders hoofbumped.
