Beacon of Harmony - Volume One
Prologue - The Headmaster of Beacon Academy
Load Full StoryPonyville lay in ruins. There was not a single thing that lay unbroken or unburnt. Creatures unlike anything seen in Equestria were howling and sounding the praises of the desolation they were made to inflict. The sun and moon had shattered, and the sky was now inky black.
And in all of this stood a horrified Twilight Sparkle, her mouth agape at the destruction. She had tried to flee before, only to be greeted by more death and the ruined bodies of her friends, the Elements of Harmony.
As she stood in the ruined town, a massive, fanged form emerged from the ground and lunged towards her. As Twilight screamed and braced for death, a voice spoke.
"So shall this be...if you do not fight."

Twilight Sparkle shot upwards, her hooves searching the area around her for something familiar to grasp onto. As her breathing returned to normal, she saw through her tear-blurred eyes that she was in her bedroom, the sun was shining, and Ponyville was just fine. As she wiped the sweat from her brow and tears from her eyes, she gave off a weary sigh.
"Twilight? You okay?"
She turned to see Spike come into the room with a raised eyebrow of concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine." she said quietly. "Just a nightmare. What time is it?"
"About seven." Spike replied. "Breakfast is ready downstairs. You coming?"
"Yeah, one second."
As Spike left the room, Twilight began to breathe heavily, trying to banish the memory of the dream from her mind. As she slowed her breaths and got out of bed, she headed for the bathroom sink.
Splashing her face with cold water, she closed her eyes and gave off a deep sigh.
"It's okay, everything's okay." she breathed. "It was just a dream, everything is fine."
As she turned off the water, a quick rumble from her stomach signalled the need for nourishment, and she headed downstairs to the relieving smell of Hay Bacon and eggs.
"You sure you're okay?" Spike asked. "You were sweating up a storm last I checked. That must've been some nightmare."
"It was." Twilight sighed. "I don't want to talk about it, though."
"Well, If you say so..." Spike said, turning off the stovetop. "By the way, Princess Celestia sent us a letter. It's on the table at your spot."
Twilight fetched her plate, and found the letter. She opened it to see the relief-inducing sight of her mentor's hoofwriting.
Dear Princess Twilight,
Though I don't mean to impose on you and your friends so early in the morning, there is something I need to discuss with every Element Bearer as soon as possible. However, you don't need to come to Canterlot for this particular errand.
I will be coming to you, but I will not be alone. An old colleague of mine has come to Equestria from afar, and I mean to introduce him to you and your friends. We should arrive in about two hours. There are some things you should know, however.
First, tell Miss Pinkie that a Party wouldn't be a bad introduction, but it might set the wrong first impression. Then again, if she does throw a party, tell her to keep it contained. (If that's at all possible.)
Second, tell Rainbow Dash that despite his appearance, he is an exceptional fighter and can hold more than his own in battle, so there is no need to be boastful of her achievements or your combined feats. Trust me on this one. He would beat her into the dust, and I would prefer if that would not happen.
Third, he is quite knowledgeable, so look forward to learning many things that you might not immediately understand. It will all make sense in due time.
Celestia.
Twilight resealed the letter and sighed, memorizing what she needed to tell her friends before digging into her breakfast.
"So, what's the matter?" Spike asked. "Equestria's in danger again?"
"Actually, no. Celestia's bringing two guests to meet us." Twilight said. "She should be here in two hours."
"Alright then." Spike said, sitting down with his own breakfast plate. "Let's eat and get ready for them!"
As the two of them finished their breakfast and headed out to gather the Elements, flying in the sky from Canterlot in a Solar Chariot was Celestia, along with a strange being.
He wore a primarily green suit with a black coat, with crooked-frame glasses set on his white-haired face. He also leaned on a silver cane with some sort of trigger mechanism built into it. A steaming mug of coffee rested in his hand.
"Ah, the realm of Equestria grows more beautiful by the day." he smiled, taking in the sights. "If only I could visit more often."
"You're always welcome, Headmaster Ozpin." Celestia replied. "You did teach me and Luna for...how long was it? 10 years?"
"Nearly twelve." Ozpin laughed. "Anyway, when I informed Glynda of my impending departure, she reacted quite as usual."
"With tact and slight annoyance?" Celestia raised an eyebrow.
"Somewhat." Ozpin replied. "But she did have something of her own to attend to. A potential student by the name of Ruby Rose."
"Ruby Rose." Celestia mused. "Where have I heard that name before?"
"I believe it may have to do with Team STRQ and her mother, Summer Rose, rest her soul." Ozpin replied. "She was one of the greatest huntresses to ever attend Beacon."
"Ah, yes." Celestia replied as the Chariot began to descend. "How is this Ruby Rose doing?"
"Studying under my associate and her uncle, Qrow Branwen." Ozpin replied. "He may be drunk almost 99 percent of the time, but he cares for her like no one else. Even her sister, Mrs. Yang Xiao Long."
As the Chariot landed, Ozpin and Celestia disembarked to find the Element Bearers waiting for them. Twilight's eyes, along with the eyes of her friends, shot upwards as they gazed at Ozpin, who casually sipped his coffee.
"Twilight, Elements, this is my guest." Celestia said. "Headmaster Ozpin of Beacon Academy, of the world of Remnant."
"It's lovely to meet you." Twilight said. "Though my friends seem to have forgotten themselves somewhat."
As the Elements introduced themselves one by one after regaining their composure, Ozpin smiled as he followed them to Twilight's castle.
"I still have yet to test them, but I see four Huntresses in front of me." Ozpin smiled. "Which of them has yet to be seen."
