Author's Note

So I'll admit, I didn't know what direction I was really going with this, I honestly just wanted to make something silly, something for the heck of it. I do feel like there's some stuff that could have easily been cut out from this, but that's honestly me.

I'll wait to hear what you guys think, and if it's out of place, then no problem, I can probably cut that out, or keep it in mind for my next story. Until then;

Enjoy and Happy 4th of July, my fellow Americans.

Idea was inspired by CSC and Twilight_Shimmer.

Proud To Be An American

A single hand knocked on the door of the Dazzlings' penthouse. And the door opened up, there on the other side stood Adagio Dazzle; as radiant as ever.

"Welcome Flash," Adagio winked.

The guitarist grinned. "Hey Adagio. Happy 4th of July!"

"And to you as well, please, come on in," Adagio opened up the door, inviting him inside.

Inside, Flash could see she and her sisters had really gotten into the spirit. Banners, balloons, even the good ole American flag hung from the ceiling. Everything in red, white, and blue for the holiday. Food was set out on a table, mostly snacks like chips; a lot of different chips; tortilla, ranch, potato, all kinds of them! And out back on the massive balcony, they had a cooler set out with tons of soda and full of ice!

"Wow, you girls really went all out," Flash said, looking at the decorations.

"What can I say? We really like getting into the spirit," Adagio shrugged.

"Hey Flashie!" Sonata waved. She slid down the stairs on the railing, landing on her feet She had gotten into the spirit as well, wearing a top hat that was drifting on the side of her head, also blazed in red, white, and blue with stars.

"Hey Sonata. Nice hat," Flash chuckled.

The youngest siren giggled. "Thank you!"

"Hey Flash!" Aria waved from the balcony.

The guitarist waved to Aria with a grin. The middle siren had a tank top in the colors and formation of the American flag, and was wearing short shorts, mostly due to the absurd heat outside. But the sunny weather accompanied by cold drinks and barbecue? Oh that was the stuff. And the sunglasses kept her eyes out of the glare as well.

"Hey Aria! I brought some steaks over to barbecue, want me to take them to the grill?"

"Yeah, just come out here, just set them on a plate, I've already got it going!" Aria called, waving to him with a pair of tongs.

Flash stepped outside onto the balcony, where there were more banners hanging over the railing and on the walls. And there was Aria, cooking on the grill. And as far as he could see, there were a few of his fellow classmates/friends from CHS there as well. Sandalwood, Brawly, Sweet Leaf, and some!

"Hey dude!" Sandalwood cheered, raising his soda. "Happy American Day to you, dude!"

Flash chuckled. "Thanks Sandalwood."

"Hey, you brought the steaks!" Vinyl Scratch smiled. "Sweet, Aria just got the burgers out onto the grill!"

"Alright!"

As Adagio talked with a few of their friends, Trixie had emerged from the bathroom, dressed in a summer tank top and shorts. A little sunscreen on her nose, and a pair of sunglasses resting on her forehead to block out the sun shining through inside the penthouse. And just for the occasion, she held her shorts up along her waist with a belt buckle in the form of the American flag.

"Hey Dagi," Trixie smiled, walking over to her girlfriend, and giving her a side hug. Adagio happily side-hugged her back, giving her a soft nuzzle on her cheek, making her girlfriend giggle.

"Hey sweetie," Adagio purred. "What took you so long?"

"Sorry, had to get the sunscreen applied, I didn't know we were eating outside," Trixie sheepishly replied.

"Well we've got all the shade underneath those tables, perfectly cool underneath those," Sonata said, passing by.

"Ah, right, I forgot," Trixie blushed.

Adagio just chuckled, stroking her girlfriend's cheek. "You're super cute, you know that?"

Her girlfriend blushed. "Dagi..."

"Oh hush. You're adorable and you know it," Adagio teased, kissing her again.

"Hey, lovebirds! If you two are done, we've got some stuff already cooked! Come and get it while it's still hot!"

Already their guests were starting to crowd around the food like hungry savages. Everyone grabbed a plate, forks, knives, chips, whatever else they wanted, and each got their own form of meat; burgers, hot dogs, steaks, whatever they wanted, they got it. And everyone got themselves a spot around the outdoor table.

Once Adagio got her food, she parked herself at the table with everyone else and pulled out a chair for her girlfriend. She patted the seat next to it, inviting Trixie over which made her smile. Trixie contently sat next to her, and soon everyone was joined together. And no one needed any other words, they just dug in!

After everyone had a delicious barbecued meal, everyone was practically stuffed. It had hit the spot, and it was a delight.

"This was delicious, thanks girls," Sweet Leaf complimented.

"Don't thank me. Thank Aria, she's the maestro behind the grill," Sonata giggled.

"Still hate being kicked off of Iron Chef," Aria grumbled.

"... I'm not gonna bother asking," Brawly put a finger down.

"Hey everyone!"

Everyone looked over to Adagio who stood in the sliding door of the balcony. "Now that you've all had time to let the food settle down a notch, how does everyone feel about going into the pool to break all that heat?" Adagio asked. The guests were very much liking that idea, as shown by their lit faces. "I thought so. Sonata's opened up the pool, so if you all are ready, you can just go get changed into your swimsuits. We've got bathrooms upstairs and down the hall if you need them," Adagio addressed. "I think I'm gonna go change into mine. Trixie?"

Trixie turned her head to a 'come hither' look from Adagio.

"Care to join me?"

"Um, uh... s-sure?" Trixie blushed, following after her. She followed Adagio up to her room and closed the door behind her. "Um... why did you want me to come up here?"

"Because I want you to be the first person to see the outfit I got for this special occasion," Adagio grinned as she started to unzip her shorts, making her girlfriend blush.

"I, oh, uh... I'll look away--"

"Trixie. Sweetie, I told you, I don't mind if you watch me change."

"Yeah, but... I don't know, it feels a little awkward staring at someone undress. You know that... incident?" Trixie quaked.

"Sweetie," Adagio walked over and stroked her cheek. "I promise, it's okay. It's just me. I'm not gonna get mad at you. Besides, I brought you up here for a reason, you know?"

"O-Oh okay..."

Adagio grinned as she pulled the zipper down. She swayed her hips side to side, letting her shorts fall on their own, revealing she was wearing a bikini piece underneath her shorts the entire time. Red and white striped all around, just like on the American flag, they were. And as she looked back at Trixie, she shook her rear at her with a sexy grin, making Trixie blush even harder.

"And to add onto that..." Adagio flipped her shirt off, revealing the other piece of the swimsuit visible; a top piece that was colored blue with dozens of little stars all around. "Soo... what do you think?"

Trixie blinked. She took one more look at Adagio in that outfit, and she couldn't help but smile. "Dagi, you... you... you look great."

"I wasn't sure if I should wear this or not," Adagio said, looking at herself in the mirror. Her head glanced over looking over at her own rear, seeing how tight her bikini piece was against her skin. "I may be in American spirit, but... I'm still Equestrian."

Trixie blinked. "But you're currently living in our world."

Adagio shrugged. "But still..."

"Adagio, it doesn't matter to me where you're from. It only matters who I celebrate with," Trixie leaned in and kissed Adagio's cheek. "Besides... I think you look good."

Adagio felt her cheeks heat up, failing to smile. "Y-You really think so?"

Trixie nodded. "Very much so," she replied with a smile.

Adagio grinned. "You seem to be growing a little more confidence in being around me, haven't you?"

"I-I guess so?"

Adagio pulled Trixie close and kissed her back. "It's still an admirable thing, sweetie. I'm proud to see you've come a long way from the shy girl you once were... and..." She gave her girlfriend an over the shoulder sexy wink. "I'm proud to be an American citizen, just like you."

Trixie slowly smirked back, making Adagio giggle.

"You know, I think you'd look sexy in a two-piece bikini."

Trixie's face suddenly went bright red. "Um... I-I don't know if I want to walk around like that around my friends."

"Why not?"

"W-Well, I... I guess I'm still shameful of my body."

Adagio's hands rested on her own hips. "You know you shouldn't be ashamed of your body, right?"

"I-I..." Trixie stuttered. "I know, I just... ehh, I don't feel comfortable being around people like that," Trixie said. But she stopped partway, looking at Trixie, cheeks going red. "B-But, um... if you don't mind... maybe if it's just you and me, I-I could dress like that for you?"

Adagio's eyes went wide. She really didn't know what to say. Trixie wasn't the type to show off, except for that one brief moment when they were talking in the locker room. But here she was actually asking about possibly showing herself off to her? Sure, alone, but it was perfectly okay!

"D-Dagi? You've been standing there for 3 minutes, are you okay?"

Adagio rattled her head, coming back to her senses. And as she thought again about the offer, she couldn't help but give an alluring grin.

"If you're okay with showing yourself off to me... then I would be perfectly okay with that."

"R-Really?" Trixie blushed. "I-I know, I don't really... I mean, I don't... I-I don't really show myself off to anyone, b-but when I'm with you, I... I feel like I can."

"You really feel confident showing yourself off to me?"

The little geek nodded.

Adagio moved towards her girlfriend, wrapping her arms around her and gave her a hug, accompanied by purring like a cat. So cute.

"Trixie, I'm so proud of you..."

Trixie blushed. "I-I haven't even done anything yet..."

"But still, sweetheart. Having confidence to do anything is an amazing thing. And it doesn't even have to be showing off yourself to me. If you can have confidence to show off to me... imagine the confidence you could get back in front of a live audience as the Great and Powerful Trixie you are."

Trixie rubbed her arm. "I-I guess I never thought of it that way..."

"It's a small step, but we'll get there. Now then, a quick question. Do you have your swimsuit on already, or do you need to borrow one of mine?"

"Oh, I've actually gone mine on. I brought an extra set of clothes with me, just in case," Trixie nodded.

"Excellent. Now what do you say we join our friends downstairs in our pool?"

Trixie grinned. She opened up the door, gesturing for Adagio to step out first.

"Oh, how sweet of you," Adagio cooed. But before she stepped out, she opened a hand up to her, hoping to hold her hand as they walked downstairs.

In the swimming pool, they saw already a few of their friends diving and splashing in it. Sonata even pulled out a few inflated beach-balls for them to play a little pool volleyball.

"Come on dude, toss it!" Sandalwood hollered.

"I've got this!" Brawly called back.

Brawly's fist made the mark, tossing the beach-ball into the air. And moving into action, Sweet Leaf bounced it back, finally getting a good shot. She wasn't strong when it came to hitting her mark in sports, and she didn't know what, but she found a little bit of that coordination coming back into play just for this game.

But the two lovers just parked themselves on the edge of the pool, legs resting in the cool water. At a few moments, the beachball came flying at them, and Trixie/Adagio managed to get some throws into the game despite not participating.

The eldest sister sighed with a relaxed look on her face, arms keeping her from falling backwards onto the marble floor. "This is a perfect day..."

"Happy Independence Day, Dagi," Trixie cooed, giving her girlfriend another hug and peck.

Adagio pecked her cheek in return, though this time she gave her another one, this time holding her close and kissing her lips. Pulling out of the kiss, she stroked her girlfriend's cheek with an adorable smile.

"Although... I think there's one more thing we can do to if you want to make this even more perfect," Trixie suggested.

30 Minutes Later

Adagio, Trixie, and a whole gaggle of their friends were sitting in several sets of bleachers somewhere near an airfield. They had gotten tickets to attend an airshow, which had been put together in honor for the holiday. Everyone in the bleachers had their own set of snacks, sunglasses for the glare, and sunscreen to beat the heat of the burning hot sun.

And just then, the announcer spoke over the PA system.

"Everyone, please rise for our National Anthem."

Everyone in the audience stood up, and placed their hands over their hearts. And some of them in the audience, those who were with military families, gave salutes. Even the Dazzlings, with proud smiles, joined in the salutes of the soldiers. And over the PA system, they heard the American National Anthem began to blare.

As everyone stayed saluting, they could see three jets racing through the skies. The ones who were performing the first part of the show. They spun themselves around, almost going close to the crowds that watched below. But then, they began to spiral around up high in the air. All three started releasing smoke into the air, streams of red and white dashing through the air. And then the third plane flew underneath and dashed right up the side with a collection of blue smoke behind, finishing the picture of the American flag created in the air.

And as the friends stood standing with hands over their hearts, they stood together, beaming with pride and joy. The music was finishing it's mark, as the airshow was about to begin. And it was there, the Dazzlings all smiled as they saluted to all the men and women who sacrificed their lives for their freedom today, in the good ole USA. Knowing deep in their hearts, they would continue to fight for all they believed in; freedom, liberty, and justice for all.

They were proud to be Americans.
