A knock was heard on Twilight Sparkle's door. It was morning. Twilight Sparkle went up to the door and opened it with her unicorn magic. It was the local delivery mare, Derpy Hooves. Hovering about rather uncontrollably, the mailmare checked inside her saddlebag for the parcel that was meant for Twilight Sparkle. She pulled out a fairly large box, and handed it over to Twilight Sparkle.
"Here you go miss." Derpy said. She then pulled out a clipboard as well. "I just need you to sign here,"
"Thanks Derpy!" Twilight said, as she signed the clipboard. "I've always wanted to read this book!"
"Hehe. Just doin' my job." Derpy said, smiling sheepishly. "It was real hard getting this here. It came from all the way from Amestris. Beyond the Appleloosan Desert."
Twilight returned Derpy Hooves her clipboard. Twilight waved Derpy goodbye, and Derpy waved back, as she flew away to her next destination for her route. Twilight carried the parcel into the main study hall. She would open this box to find a book. It appeared quite plain in appearance.
"Wow! Real human magic! I've always wanted to see what humans can do!" she said to herself.
The Science of Alchemy

Twilight Sparkle began to read out loud the contents of the book starting with the first chapter.
Alchemy, the science of understanding, deconstructing and reconstructing matter. However, it is not an all powerful art; It is impossible to create something out of nothing. If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given. This is the law of equivalent exchange, the basis of all alchemy. In accordance with this law, there is a taboo among alchemists: human transmutation is strictly forbidden...
Twilight continued to read through the chapters of this massive tome of a book. This book was by no means meant for ponies. However, Twilight felt that she could replicate Alchemy using unicorn magic. She began to write notes with her quill pen, floating it about. A wave of nostalgia hit Twilight Sparkle like a powerful gust. She had never been THIS immersed in a magic form ever since she was little, when she was just beginning to learn magic. Right now, she was learning a new kind of magic. She was willing to give it a test drive.
She saw a symbol. It was a fairly simple looking symbol. A circle, with a pattern inside it. The book calls it a "Transmutation Circle". A fitting name, she thought.. She replicated the pattern onto a large piece of paper. On top of it, she brought a large block of iron she got from the "Iron Blocks Galore" store. She then pointed her horn onto the transmutation circle. The horn glowed, and the transmutation circle responded by glowing with it.
In that moment, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy all walked in the library. They were here to ask Twilight Sparkle for a picnic. It was a nice day out anyways. As they walked in, Applejack stopped everypony else from interrupting Twilight Sparkle's magic experimentation.
As for the iron block, it began to glow, and then, after a brief flash, it was transformed. It was still the same iron block, only this time it looked like a miniature version of Princess Celestia. All the other ponies watched in awe. They were aware Twilight was capable of all sorts of magic, but not this.
"THAT WAS AWESOME!" blurted out Rainbow Dash. "HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!"
Twilight was shocked, and fell back a bit, completely thrown off by the fact that her friends were right there, when previously they were not.
"Wh...what was that?" stammered Fluttershy.
"Oh this?" said Twilight. "It's a new form of magic I'm learning. It's called Alchemy."
"Alchemy?" everypony else said.
"Yes. Although humans call it a science, I've found a way to replicate it using my magic." Twilight said. "It's something they have in a faraway land known as Amestris."
"TWILIGHT TWILIGHT!" Pinkie Pie said, jumping up and down. "WHAT ABOUT THE PICNIC?!"
"Oh right. Sorry girls. I'll just quickly get my stuff." Twilight said.
The Mane 6, as well as Spike, had gone to the park for a picnic. The Picnic proved to be rather uneventful. The weather was nice. Everypony was eating their sandwiches. Pinkie Pie was being Pinkie Pie. However, even then, even Pinkie Pie proved to be very bored. Twilight was simply reading her book of Alchemy.
"Mr Author! Can we skip to the part where something interesting happens?" said Pinkie Pie.
And, almost as though Pinkie Pie commanded an author to write this, something does happen.
Twilight Sparkle made another Transmutation circle. The same as before, and experimented with a piece of cake.
"Pinkie Pie, do you remember the ingredients of this cake?" Twilight asked.
"Of course! I used flour, sugar, milk..." Pinkie Pie gave her an entire list of cake ingredients. Twilight then used her alchemy to seemingly remove the bite mark on the cake, while making the slice of cake somewhat thinner than how it was originally cut.
"Alchemy is cool and all, but is that all the magic humans can do?" Rainbow Dash said, as she reclined on the ground, wearing her SWEET SHADES OF 20% COOLNESS.
"...I remember reading up on something about 'human transmutation' but..." Twilight trailed off.
"But what?" Rainbow Dash said.
"But it says here that nopony should ever try it. EVER." Twilight said. "Besides, we don't have a human to transmute."
"OOH! HERE'S SOMETHING YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY!" Pinkie Pie said, somehow having the book in her possession.
Twilight Sparkle began to read the section of the book Pinkie Pie opened up.
...it is said that the Philosopher's Stone destroyed the city of Xerxes in one night. It is also thought to give immortality. While varying in shape and name, ultimately, they are all the same things. It is said that this item can amplify one's alchemical abilities...
"Whoa nelly...this Alchemy stuff sounds mighty scary if y'all ask me." Applejack said.
"C'mon you guys. Everything on a larger scale is scary." reassured Twilight, somewhat nervously. "Besides...this is just an old folklore..."
"Why'd y'all get it anyways, sugarcube?" Applejack asked.
"Well..." said Twilight.

Book Report (Twilight First Person)
I was at Canterlot on royal business. Princess Celestia had arranged to meet me in pony regarding my lessons about friendship. However, during my stay there were times I was given some free time. I spent much that free time at the Royal Canterlot Library. I found a mostly unknown part of the Library. I've never seen this part of the library, so it must have some amazing books for me to read.
I read a book in the wing. It was a part of Equestrian history, on the Elements of Harmony. It is said that the original elements of harmony originated and descended from six different ponies.
Star Swirl the Bearded, a powerful unicorn sage. He created many spells of the pre-classical and classical era. It was said he was related to the Royal Family. This has yet to be confirmed.
General Spectrum, one of Celestia's most trusted and loyal Pegasus generals of the Solar Army. He was famous for his final attack on Discord's Armies in the First Discord War. Legend has it that he was the first pony to perform the legendary Sonic Rainboom, ultimately uniting the six heroes.
Apple Gavel, a judge of the highest court. Despite being an Earth Pony, she had limited magical abilities, hence bringing out honesty out of everypony, and providing justice for all.
Platinum II, the direct descendant of Princess Platinum of the Old Unicorn Kingdom. It was said her beauty caused many civil wars.
Fuschia the Harlequin. She was once said to be Discord's lover, but was thought to have died. She had recalled no memory of being with Discord after her apparent disappearance. Everypony learned of her past relation with Discord only after his demise.
Heavenly Breeze the Humble. Little is known about him, except that he was a kind and sincere pony, as well as an avid lover of nature. It was said that his sincerety and serenity inspired peace and security amongst ponies that met him.
Little is known of what happened, but it is said that their deaths were not in vain. Their last dying attack, led by Star Swirl the Bearded, had led to the creation of the Elements of Harmony, which stopped Discord once and for all. While it did ravage Old Canterlot, wiping out all the citizens of Old Canterlot, ultimately the war against Discord was won.
Only Star Swirl the Bearded had lived to tell the tale. However, it was said he went away to a distant land. Nopony had ever seen him since.
I finally had a chance to speak with the Princess. As I was reading the book of Equestrian History, a guard came in the library and said that the Princess wanted to see me. I snuck the book with me, so that I can read it later. It wasn't stealing, after all. I was going to...return it...
Anyways I went to the Princess's study room. We initially just spoke about the past letters; a recap of the lessons I learned. We had a good discussion. We even had a chance to talk about things that weren't mentioned in the letters. Princess Cadence and Shining Armour also briefly stopped by to chat.
We then had a cup of tea back in the Princess's study room. Eventually, however, she discovered that I snuck one of her books with me. I was terrified. I was caught stealing, not just from anypony, but from the ruler of all of Equestria.
"I...I..." was all I was able to stammer.
"Twilight..." she said.
"I...I'm so sorry..." I stammered. "I just wanted to..."
She raised a hoof and stopped me from speaking any further.
"Twilight. You know stealing is wrong." the Princess said sternly. "I'm afraid I'll have to punish you.."
I was devastated, but realized there was no other choice.
"Once I send you back to Ponyville, you will be sent a parcel. And as punishment, you will write me a book report on the book I send you."
"Okay Princess," I said weakly.
Finally, after some time had passed, I was sent back home.
Just outside the castle grounds, before I was to be sent off back to Ponyville on pegasi-chariots, Princess Celestia wanted to tell me something.
"Remember the book report, my dear Twilight." she said.
I replied with a simple nod.
As the Princess appeared to get smaller and smaller, as I went farther away, I began to wonder what was the book that Princess Celestia would send me. It would be the thing that would keep me curious until I finally got the book.
Meanwhile...in a different land...
A young man, with black hair, wearing an impressive blue military outfit, was sitting at his office desk. He was filling out paperwork that he had been meaning to work on, but slacked off for most of the time he did have the time to work on it. The paperwork just kept piling up. This man, Colonel Mustang, groaned.
He began to look through the papers. He took a random file of military information. From Eastern Command, it seems. He began to read the dossier.
Name: Unknown (Code name : "Ditzy" )
Age: Unknown
Height: ~4"
Weight: Unknown (approx 100lb)
Hair colour: Blonde
Eye colour: Gold
Skin colour: Grey
While not actually a human, she appears to exhibit human-like qualities. Possibly a chimera. If it is a chimera, it is a mix of equine, bird, and possibly human. May be suffering from defects. Eyes appear to be the only hint for this. Possibly capable of speech. Does not appear to employ Alchemy whatsoever. "Ditzy" took a book, and little else. Appears to simply drift about. Does not appear to have connections with Ishvalans. Interrogation attempts were futile. Possesses the ability to fly.
"Pfft. A prank? And on a military dossier?" Mustang muttered. "It'll be a long day..."

Twilight finally finished reading the book, as well as the book report, as she finished up her cup of coffee. Her organization skills (for once) actually helped her, when usually it did not do to help much. She fully understood the human magic known as alchemy. This would get things done faster, it seemed.
Then, suddenly, she accidentally dropped her mug on the floor, shattering to many pieces. Spike heard the sound and quickly brought a brush and pan.
"Don't worry Twilight! I got it!" said Spike, hurriedly.
Twilight stopped Spike, and gave him a reassuring smile. Spike was confused, as Twilight was drawing a circular symbol (Transmutation circle) on the floor. She scooted the debris into within the circle. Twilight then focused her horn onto the transmutation circle. Sparks of energy surrounded the broken cup, and it was fixed, mostly good as new, save for a somewhat rough texture that was left behind. It appeared to be peeling somewhat.
"Twilight, how did you do that?!" a mesmerised Spike said.
"Oh it's just a new form of magic I learned." she said.
"Twilight, that's amazing!" Spike said.
"Thanks Spike..." Twilight let out a yawn. "Time to hit the hay."
She quickly gone through her nightly chores and quickly went off into bed. She let herself sprawl throughout the comfortable bed. Spike was not far behind, as he went to sleep in his little bed of his own. Both of them drifted into their own, peaceful night-time slumber.
Twilight found herself in a white void. She looked around. More white void. Finally, she came across a large, stone gate. On the gate was her cutie mark, a large six-pointed star, with several smaller stars around it. The large imposing gates intimidated Twilight Sparkle. Twilight Sparkle was more than terrified.
"Hello, young alchemist." said a strange, metallic voice. It sounded almost like a foal, but distorted.
Twilight perked her head around. She saw a very white pony. Even whiter than Rarity or Celestia. In fact, this pony was white as the void around her. The pony had no tail, no mane, no face (save for a snout and mouth).
"Where am I?!" Twilight yelled in fright.
"Oh my, I forgot to introduce myself." the ethereal pony said. "I am of many names. I am God, I am Truth, I am All, I am One, I am also YOU."
"What?! What is this?!" Twilight said. She was so terrified, she could, as Rainbow Dash put it, 'shit bricks'.
"Don't worry. I won't take anything from you, Miss Twilight." the ethereal pony said. "However I will say this much. If you so dare decide to open these gates, you will have to pay a piece of yourself. It is the Law of Equivalent Exchange. For now, however, I shall bid you farewell."
As the world around her began to darken, she saw a human. He had long, blond hair, and appeared to be severely malnourished.
"Wait! Who are you?!" Twilight yelled.
"h...help...me...find my...soul..." said the blonde human weakly, before everything turned black.

Spike was woken up from the scream. It was early morning. The sun barely came up. Twilight was breathing hard. She was sweating a lot too. This had to be the most insane dream she has ever had in her life. Twilight was trying hard to catch her breath.
"Twilight, you really scared me ju-BUUUURP" Spike said, then he belched out a magical gas, which solidified into a scroll. A letter from Celestia herself. No. It bore the Royal Seal of...Princess Luna? Twilight took a quick read at the letter she got.
Twilight is to leave for Canterlot. This time with her friends.
Elsewhere...
News and rumours have been spreading around East City in Amestris for a while. Rumours of flying pony chimeras. The news did not quite spread very fast, but at least a third of East City have heard of the rumours. Exactly what was going on was strange. Colonel Mustang, however, shrugged off the rumours as a ridiculous rumour.
"Hey Colonel. You heard about the Ditzy Pony Chimera?" asked a tall, blonde man, who smelled of cigarette.
"Havoc this is becoming more ridiculous than your ramblings of your girlfriend. Of course I heard about it," said Mustang.
And so, the legend of Ditzy the Pony was born...
