The Adventures Of Pumpkin Cake/Spice : Filly Meets World
My name is Pumpkin Cake, but only my friends calls me Pumpkin Spice. I'm of filly age and my mom says I have a pension for mischief, I live in a small town west of nowhere and opposite of fun by the name Ponyville.
My mom is divorced from my dad. This happened when I was just two, so I don't remember much about him. He packed up his life and set forth into the world alone and depraved, or so says my mom on sunny days. If it happens to rain she enjoys telling me he was hit by an oncoming train during a stormy night and now haunts the railways unable to find peace.
So yeah, my dad's a deadbeat or a ghost which ranges from depressing to awesome. I have a pegasus brother though at the moment that dork is off at Flight Camp, lucky if you ask me!
I've been asking to go to Magic School for ages with no luck!
It's never the right time, according to my mother.
My mom is pretty cool though if suffering a bit from an overactive imagination, she's my BFF in life I can tell her anything and everything without feeling like a weirdo.
Yet my mom's favorite thing to tell me has to be…
“Pumpkin Cake, get out of bed!” The voice of my mom rang out through the house like a banshee out of a horror movie.
I let a groan escape my lips in a sudden sense of defeat. Slowly rising from my wrecked bed like a zombie, wearing an oversized pink shirt with the phrase “Lil Devil” sprawled across the front.
“But moooom, I'm contemplating life!” I set my bluff on the table running a hoof through my messy dark auburn mane, at this point more of a rat nest than anything else.
“If I have to walk up there, I'll contemplate tossing you down the stairs!” She replied in a shrill tone of pure business, I knew better than to press my luck any further.
Rolling out of bed much like an amorphous blob I hit the floor running, tossing off my pajamas and shaking off my pastel yellow coat. I made my lair up in the attic where mornings were killer cold on my hooves, even if it was summer outside, in my tomb, it was always winter.
Flinging up a quick ponytail I made sure to use my favorite blue scrunchie, rushing like a boss down my bedroom ladder in a blur of colors. Swiftly running across our shag carpet to only stop at the stairs, every day since I was five, I've had a thing about sliding down the stairway railing.
Mom thinks if I do, I'll break my neck. But I'm pretty confident I'd just snap my legs. Rolling my blue colored eyes, I decided against tempting fate today. Skipping down the stairs with ease before doing a sick one-eighty into the dimly lit kitchen.
My mom sat alone at the table her pale blue coat fluffed out, her magenta mane in a semi-decent condition this morning just to be polite. Clasping a lukewarm mug of coffee in her hooves, dark violet eyes keeping a careful eye on me from a distance.
“You know, summer vacation is my free pass for sleeping in!?” I cast a quizzical glance to my mom, kicking a nearby step ladder in front of our dinky beige fridge firmly.
“Maybe short-stack, but sleeping till noon, in my opinion, is pushing it.” She simply gave a lackluster eye roll, watching me ascend towards the freezer as if the chosen one.
“Can't help it, old-timer! Hollow Heart hosted a ‘Gore Mares’ countdown last night, I just had to catch it on the radio, my depraved little mind forced my hoof!” I swung open the freezer swiftly, coming to view with ice shavings and ancient frozen treats.
“Isn't that just all horror serials in general?” My mom sipped from her mug in a compliant manner as I let out an annoyed moan.
“What No!?- One most horror stories fall into the trope of 'Final Mares’, ‘GM’ is a subgenre of heroines who bathe in blood and enjoy the sport of slaughtering the slasher villain!” I quickly flaunted my vastly superior horror knowledge over my mom, slamming the freezer door in a huff.
“Bathe in blood?” She winced scrunching nose in mild disgust.
“My questionable pass time aside old mare, where are my hay rolls!?” I struck at the heart of the matter early this afternoon.
“I was peckish this morning, so I ate them.” Mom just chortled with a sly smirk, sipping away on her coffee as if she committed no crime.
“Peck?... PECKISH!? I'm downright starving!” I let my jaw drop in utter disbelief of my mother's lack of compassion towards her offspring.
“We have cereal in the cabinet drama queen.” She gave a quick roll of the eye.
“Wheaties!? Do I look like an Olympic hopeful to you!?” My hoof ran down the contours of my small pathetic frame.
“Should I make you a plate of oats, Your highness?” Mom sat up in growing annoyance, flashing me daggers from across the room.
“Meh, how about a short-stack for your favorite short-stack?” I flashed my most innocent puppy dog pout possible, watching my mom melt before my eyes.
A loud knock on the front door snapping us both into reality, mom placing a slender hoof atop her temple massaging gently.
“Fine Pumpkin, just go answer the door please.” She replied with a flaunt of her hoof, sending me on my way towards the front door with a loud sigh.
The knocking echoed throughout our humble abode much like a thunderstorm, the air filling with a annoying melody as I dragged myself to the old wooden frame.
“We don't want to witness your savior!” I swung the door open with a loud pop of my lips.
The mare before me stood tall and proud with a waist-length bubblegum colored mane, coat a vibrant pink hue and eyes a dark ocean blue. Wearing a totally sick black leather collar around her neck, with awesome golden hoop earrings piercing her left ear. Ones I could just dream of wearing myself when I was older.
“What's cooking cupcake?” The mare giggled with a coy smirk, strutting in the house with a confident stride.
“Pinx!” I squealed my totally favorite friend in the bitchin' world entering our fray.
Pinx was a long-time friend of my dorky mother, but my total spirit animal in every sense of the word. She's spontaneous and beautiful, with a wild streak two miles long as well as a no-nonsense attitude to match.
My mom said she used to be part of an all-girl group of heroines, who seemed to save Equestria on a weekly basis. If I could grow up to be half as a badass as her, I could totally die happy in my twenties.
“Where's Chiffon?” Pinx spoke in a gentle demeanor, kneeling down to my level with a smirk crossing her lips.
“Momma bear is in the kitchen! But why bring in the square when we can just hang home spice?” I held out my hoof Pinx wasting no time in completing our secret hoof shake a hoof slide, hoof bump, and a rump bump.
“Usually I'd be all over that offer Pumpkin Spice! But I need to speak some business, if you don't mind?” Pinx gave a wink, I knew that as code for something juicy was cooking in the oven, I just nodded leading her back to the kitchen.
“We can hang later.” I squeed.
“Totally!” Pinx ruffled my already messy mane before walking over to my mom, while they said hello, I set up my spot on the table grabbing a first-class seat to the show.
“Chiffon, you know how you can never send Pumpkin to Magic School ?” Pinx gave a giggle leaning up against the counter.
“I know it all too well, we didn't sell enough cupcakes to send me last year!” I just had to add my two cents, it being a drag to be apart of a family that could never do anything interesting.
“It's not that bad…” Mom gave a sigh, flipping my pancakes on the skillet in one swift motion.
“Well my boss is going through a settlement with her hubby. She's trying to hide a few special items away from prying eyes.” Pinx flaunted her hoof to my mother who just broke into a fit of laughter.
“Old Donut Joe, is finally fighting back against Croissant Cream?” Mom arched her hips to the side, sliding a stack of pancakes onto a waiting plate.
“Mm-hmm! It's getting down and dirty I hear, in fact, he caught her in…” I watched Pinx slowly tilt her head my way, I was on the edge of my seat to hear more.
“Kissing?” I slowly waved my hoof in front of myself as mom just burst out laughing like a dying hyena, walking over sliding my late breakfast onto the table.
“Ahem. Long story short Chiffon, I got a quote 'One Time Raise’ so that mule can't take it!” Pinx quickly dug out a large bag of bits, placing them on the counter like a hotshot.
“Pinkie!?” Mom gave a total look of disbelief to my home spice.
“Does she want to send me to Magic effin’ School!?" I nearly jumped out of my chair in excitement, Celestia’s the premium private school of Equestria.
Host to the sickest classes and most wonderful dorms near the beach. Ponies say the ocean is always calm during the night for bonfires, but during the day is just full of the fiercest swells anyone could wish for.
“Pumpkin!” My mom cast a glare deep into my soul as I rolled my eyes.
“Sorry, just Celestia's is like the 'IT’ place to be right now! I'm like frickin' Harry Trotter and need to be in that school!” My hooves raced across the breakfast table as eyes burned into my mom.
She was never the coolest person, willing to take chances.
“I don't know Pinkie, it's like three hours away, besides I can't take your bits.” Mom shook her head softly in fear, my heart shattering into a million pieces.
“Chiffon, you're not taking them! I'm giving them to you!” Pinx nudged mom on the side playfully.
“But!?” Mom pushed away with a loud huff.
“Take a chance Chiffon, Pumpkin deserves that doesn't she?” Pinx let the bits jingle on her hoof playfully.
The world grew extra quiet, Mom running the possibilities of some huge disaster wreaking havoc on our lives soon. My pancakes now just a lukewarm pile of flatbread as I held my breath in anticipation for the wonderful news.
“Maybe…” Mom let those magic words escape her lips uneasily, I could feel myself rise to my hooves in utter disbelief and world-shattering excitement.
Screaming aloud like a mad mare, I bounced in place happily. My heart racing like a drum in my chest as Pinx gave my mom a tender embrace.
I was going to be at Magic School in a matter of weeks!
I had one thing to do at this moment!
