In the universe where Nightmare Moon has successfully taken over the entirety of Equestria, every single day is covered in total darkness. While most ponies had already grown accustomed to this situation, there are still those who miss the days when the gorgeous sun shone brightly in the sapphire sky and brought warmth to all the land.

Two of these secret dissenters, Grand Vizier Rarity and Air Commander Rainbow Dash, had recently found a spell that could open a portal to another dimension and bring something that could finally free their world from Nightmare Moon's tyranny. Even though they had pledged complete loyalty to the princess, they cannot bear to live under her rule any longer.

The spell works and it does bring something from a different reality. While it is not as valiant and heroic as they had hoped it would be, it is exactly what they needed: A warrior who can wield hellish flames bright and powerful enough to cut through Nightmare Moon's darkness.
