Chapter 2
First day
"The H.M.S Lightning doesn't allow stowaways."
"Hey son." My father said lovingly, as he ruffled my hair, drawing a giggle from me.
He wore his normal business suit, and looked like he was tired. But seeing me, and Mom, seemed to make him feel refreshed.
"Hey sweetie, how was work?" My mother asked, as she gave him a hug.
He gave her a weary smile, then replied, "It was tiring, but better now, thanks to you." He then picked me up, (I wasn't very big, seeing as I was only five years old.) "And Zach here."
I giggled once more, and hugged him.
For a second there, I was in bliss. It seemed like everything was going to be alright.
Then a gunshot sounded, and a bullet tore through my father's chest. This caused him to drop me, go to his knees, then fall face-first in front of me. I froze and my mother screamed as another gunshot echoed.

I shot awake, sweat dripping from my chin. My pupils were pinpricks and my entire body shook uncontrollably.
It was just a dream.
But then why did it feel so real? It doesn't matter, it always feels real. No matter how many sleepless nights I have, it will never change.
My parents, the two kindest, and most loving, people I ever knew, were dead. Nothing was going to change that. I should accept that, I wanted to accept that, but I just couldn't.
They were such good people, why did they have to die? It made no sense to me.
Something stirred in my chair. I jumped in surprise, then it hit me.
Last night wasn't a dream. I had a multi-colored winged pony, named Rainbow Dash, living with me now.
I sat there in the dark, staring at her small body rise, and fall, with each breath. She looked troubled. I don't blame her. To suddenly be in a whole new world, you didn't understand, unexpectedly like that, must have taken some sort of toll on her.
Suddenly I felt the urge to draw. I couldn't use the desk though, due to the fact, Dash was sleeping in my chair. Fortunately, I kept a sketch pad and a small lamp by my bed, should I feel too tired to actually go to my desk.
I bent down, and retrieved the two items from underneath my bed. I turned on the small lamp, earning a soft glow from the object. I then turned to a blank page and retrieved the pencil from the little slot on the back.
I stared at the sleeping creature before me, and began. I took in every one of her features and put them to the page. I went into full blown artist mode, as my writing utensil expertly glided across the page, refining the curves into her facial features, curving the lines into the arch that was her back was while she slept in a ball. The way her hair was slightly messy in an intentional way. How her ears were long, but just the right size for her head.
How the colors in her mane seemed to fade to different colors, when you followed her mane towards the back. It reminded me of one of those cheap mood rings that never actually get your mood right. How she had her fore hooves crossed under her chin, like a pillow. Her lower body was hidden behind the rest of her, but I imagine she wouldn't look half as cute from that angle, than from this one.
Did I just say "cute"? I don't think I did. That doesn't matter, what does matter is this drawing.
I began shading in the colors of her mane, and fur, using grey scale. Still, it looked pretty good.
By the time I finished, I felt pretty tired. I always did, after a late night drawing session.
I shut off the lamp, stuffed my drawing supplies under my bed, and returned to sleep.
*BEEP!* *BEEP!* *BEEP!* *BEE-CRASH!!*
What you just heard, was the sound of two living things showing their hatred for the same object. More specifically, me and Rainbow simultaneously throwing something at the alarm clock. Fortunately the alarm clock is made of steel and was merely unplugged, not destroyed. We both groaned in a "time to wake up already?" way. Well that's the groan that escaped my lips, don't know about her.
I slowly sat up and rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes.
"Ugh, I hate alarm clocks." I heard the mare say. Too groggy to care about what this statement just implied, I just nodded in agreement.
"They need to find a better way to wake people up, even in the early hours of the morning." I replied, sleepily. She just sat there with a weary look on her face.
I decided not to question it; it was too damned early to delve into someone else's problems.
"I'm going to take a shower, be back." I told her while throwing my towel, and a change of clothes, over my shoulder. She just grunted in acknowledgement. I looked over at her, to spy her looking out the window with tired magenta eyes. I then left her to take my shower.
I emerged from the bathroom around twenty minutes later, with a fresh set of clothes on. I wasn't going to change in front of her, so I did it in the bathroom.
I then entered my bedroom to find Dash once again asleep, only this time under a blanket. It was kinda chilly, so I didn't blame her for using it. I picked up my bag and left for school.
As I descended the stairs I noticed the fresh bottles on the table, which probably meant my mom was home. She must have been in her room, because I got to the front door without an encounter. Not that I'd WANT you to meet her.
As I locked the front door behind me, and began my walk, I suddenly had a thought.
Rainbow Dash seemed pretty docile when I left her. Based off our first meeting, she isn't one to trust easily. I hope she doesn't get herself into trouble.
Wait. Why do I even care? She is a strange creature I had never seen before, why do I feel like I have to protect her? I don't know, but my gut tells me to do it, so it must be a good idea.
Also my eyes tell me that I have arrived at school.
I entered the graffiti covered front gate, and began heading towards my locker.
My walk was pretty uneventful, aside from the occasional "sup" from one of my gang members, nothing happened.
My locker was located in the deepest, darkest, corner of the school. So the closer I got to it, the less people I would see, until there was no one at all. On the bright side, at least it was a place where I could get some privacy.
I set my bag down, and unzipped it so I could put my books in it. But what I saw inside made me jump in surprise.
Right there, sitting inside my bag, was little ol' Rainbow Dash smiling at me triumphantly.
"Looks like I have a stowaway." I growled, as my surprise turned to anger. She climbed out of the bag, began flapping her wings and floating up to eye-level with an "I don't care" look on her face.
"Look, I don't trust you. But there was no way I was going to say holed up in that room all day." She flicked her tail on the locker as she said that.
I grabbed her, opened the locker, and shoved her in it practically yelling, "What, are you crazy!?!? Don't you remember what I said about getting seen?!?"
She gave me this defiant look, which just infuriated me more.
"I don't care. Why do you?" I froze at the question. There it was again, the doubt of my intentions. Why did I care? I barely knew her, yet I felt like I had to protect her.
I shook my head clear and just replied, "Call it my non-existent conscious. Now you have to stay here, in my locker."
She looked me in the eye and said, "If I am locked up in here, I will kick and scream until somepon, erm, ONE finds me and asks you about the pet you brought to school.
Touché, you bastard.
My face got screwed up in frustration, then I just told her angrily, "Fine, stay in my bag. Just don't make any noise, okay?"
She gave me a victorious smile, grabbed my books, and hopped into my bag with a thud.
I heard an "Ow!"
"You okay?"
"Yep."
"Kay, let's go."
I sat in my seat as my Economics teacher talked to us about how your money loses value over time when left in the bank for too long. Something like that.
The class was set up like your normal classroom, except a little more worse for wear. The teacher was actually pretty entertaining. He always wore this smug look, as if he knew something we didn't. That was probably true.
His name was Mr. Jones, and he was in fact the only good teacher in this school. That I knew of. See? I can be optimistic.
"I'm bored." I heard my backpack whisper.
"So am I, but I'm being quite about it. Maybe you can be quiet about it too." I replied in a hushed tone.
I know what you're thinking; "Why are you bored? I thought he was entertaining?" Well even he gets boring once in a while.
My bag groaned, then shifted a little.
I rolled my eyes, then said, "Still happy you came smart one?"
The backpack thought about it for a moment, then replied, "Well it got you angry, so that's a plus."
At that moment, I glared darkly at the bag and questioned, "Do you wanna die?"
The object laughed lightly, and replied, "No, but you aren't gonna kill me."
"Don't count on it." I growled.
"Shouldn't you be paying attention?"
"SHUT UP!" I shouted.
I froze when I realized what I just did. EVERYONE staring at me in confusion. Mr. Jones, thinking I yelled it at him, did NOT look happy.
"I blame you." I muttered to my bag, or rather a certain someone in it, as I once again found myself in another unbearable hour with the living incarnate of evil, Ms. Salis.
I stared at my cheese pizza. Well that's what they called it anyways. I'm pretty sure they just took the ingredients and threw them in the microwave, then put it on a plate. Why do school lunches suck so much?
"I'm hungry!" A certain pony moaned.
I considered starving her, but then my conscious kicked in and told me not to. Especially if not starving her meant feeding her this terrible pizza that tasted like salad.
"Here, eat this." I replied, as I opened the bag and handed her the plate with the pizza on it.
"What's this?" The bag said to the failure.
"Pizza. If you don't want it, then don't eat it."
"I didn't say I didn't want it." Then there was a munching sound, then a sound of surprise.
"Wow! This tastes just like a daisy sandwich from back home!" She cried.
"Quiet!"I hissed at her. Luckily for us no one noticed.
"Opps, sorry."She quickly replied in a smaller tone.
"That's bett-"Wait, did she just say "sorry"? I just sat there my mouth agape, as she munched on my "pizza". When did she get so nice? Maybe food makes her more docile.
There was a moment of silence, then she said, "You're still a jerk."
The scowl returned to my face.
Ahh, there is the disrespect that was missing. I almost thought she was going to befriend me there.
"Yea sure, and you're still a hothead." I replied, with a small scowl. I then rested my head on the table, while I stared at my backpack. The bag then snickered a little, which drew a small smile from me.
After a minute of awkward silence, the bell rung, announcing that lunch was over. I grabbed the bag, earning a surprised sound from the one within, which drew a small grin from me, as I walked to my fifth period.
History. My most hated subject.
Let's just skip the details of how I once again ended up in detention with good ol' Ms. Salis.
I just want to say, lecturing your teacher on how boring and stupid history is, is a terrible idea.
Now let's fast forward time here, let's see.... No, I don't want to show you what happened in Mr.Barcelona's....
There I was in Mr. Barcelona's Chemistry class of doom.
Wait! I said, I DIDN'T want to show you this! Crap, seems my remote is broken. Ugh, please skip this part; you really don't want to see me embarrassing myself do you?

Fuck. I'll take that as a yes.
Ugh, let's get this over with.
"Mr. Summers! Would you mind giving us your presentation on the three forms of water?" The mad scientist said loudly.
I didn't have anything, but I lost a bet with Rainbow Dash during passing period, so I had to make one up as I go.
I groaned, then got up. I could feel everyone's eyes on me; I never did my projects so this had to be good right?
I stood before the class, with a small look of uncertainty. Okay just make it up. With that thought, I began.
"Okay so as you notice, I have no power point." Snickers rose from my audience.
"So I have decided to just talk about it."
I picked up a marker, and drew a circle, on the board.
"So this is water. We all drink it, so that makes it pretty awesome, and cool." I drew a pair of sunglasses on the circle. "So cool, that it can even change forms. Like into a block." I drew a square around the circle. "This block it can become, is known as 'ice'. But it is so much more than just ice; it is a very effective weapon." I drew a gun around the block, and labeled it "Ice gun" and I drew Mr. Barcelona being blasted with it. Everyone chuckled at that. Everyone except the teacher.
"Also it can become gas." I made some squiggly lines. "But be careful, it can drown you in this state, making it a potent chemical weapon." Laughter filled the room, as I drew an evil face on the drawing with a pitchfork, as it choked little stick figures.
"So really there aren't only three forms, more like six. And yes, they are all very deadly. So watch out, or you will be next on its kill list." I gave a fake "OooOoo" scary sound, as the classroom howled with laughter. I swear I heard Dash's voice among the noise, fortunately no one noticed. I glanced at Mr. Barcelona, who wore a scowl and was pointing toward the door.
"Hello again, Mr.Summers...." Said a certain devil's servant when I entered detention for the fourth time today.
"Ugh." Was my only reply.
A horrifying hour, and an uneventful walk later...
"That was fun!!" Cried Rainbow, as she did a loop out of my bag, and landed on my bed.
"Yea sure it was... For you." I told her bluntly.
Yes it was indeed an enjoyable day for her, and a shitty one for me.
She cocked her head, with a curious look on her face.
"Something wrong?"
I gave her a blunt look, "What do you think? Why do you care anyways, I thought I was the bad guy."
She sighed heavily. "Look, you put up with me, AND gave me a safe place to stay, even AFTER how I treated you. That takes some real loyalty. Also, I know I've been kinda a jerk lately, and I'm sorry. Do ya forgive me?" She gave me an apologetic look.
I just stood there, looking like Bigfoot showed up, as I tried to process what she just told me.
"S-So is this a truce?" I stammered out. With the curve ball she just threw me, I was lucky to be able to say anything at all.
"Truce." She stood there with a smile.
I did the one thing I could think of.
"YES!! ONE PROBLEM DOWN!!!" I yelled, as I pumped my fist.
She laughed at the sight of me doing a victory dance in the middle of my bedroom.
A couple of hours later, I had calmed down and was ordering pizza. I was getting cheese pizza, and Rainbow decided to try the veggie pizza. Which kinda made sense, because horses don't eat meat right?
"Okay," I said, as I put down the phone, "So it should be about thirty minutes, what should we do until then?"
"Pillow fight?" She suggested, shrugging as she did.
"Nah, only got one pillow. How about we tell each other about ourselves?" She perked up at that. I guess she likes to talk about herself.
"Since I'm at least twenty percent cooler than you, I'll start." I gave her a "really?" look. She just gave a smug smile in return.
"...then I saved my best friend, my personal heroes, and won the competition!" She finished with a triumphant pose, where she jutted her chest out.
"Pretty awesome Rainbow." Was all I said, which she seemed to count as a victory.
A loud knocking sounded from the door, and I slowly got up, and walked over to the window to see who it was.
My eyes widened in surprise.
It was her. Kate Wake.
"I'M COMING!!" I yelled as I tore out of the room, clutching the money tightly in my hand. I arrived at the door, and grasped the door handle, turned and pulled. Which resulted in it barely moving.
FUCK!! Not now!!!
"One second!" I shouted.
I began tugging and pulling on the door, even pushing off from one of the side walls, with a foot, as I did. I gave it one more big pull, and it came free, however the force of me pulling sent me to the ground.
"Are you okay?" Kate asked, concern evident in her voice.
The air had been knocked out of me, I felt slightly dizzy, and my crush was standing over me asking me if I was okay. I'm okay. I groaned a bit, and slowly got up.
"I'm okay... Just a little worse for wear." I replied, then gave her a small smile.
She returned the smile.
"So how are you today, Kate?" I arched an eyebrow, as the pain faded. I don't know if it was the fall, or RD's stories of bravery and courage, but I felt more confident at the moment. Not like that is a bad thing.
"I'm good. You?"
Alright! This is going so much better than last time!
"Umm, good, good." That's the biggest damn lie I've ever heard, but right now that doesn't matter.
"That's good.... So the pizza will be eight-fifty."
I handed her a ten, the told her, "Umm... Thanks for the pizza. See you later." I gave her an awkward smile, the kind that says, "I like you, but I don't have the guts to tell you."
"Yea, bye. See you later." I don't know if she looked disappointed, or just tired. I was too busy kicking myself for not asking her out.
I entered my room to find Dash laughing her tail off.
"What's so funny?" I asked in an irritated tone.
"You totally like her; you should've seen the look on your face! It was all like, "And she made some silly expression. The funny part was, she was probably accurate.
I gave her my "really?" expression, then told her, "Shut up, and eat your pizza."
The rest of the night, we traded stories over pizza. Well actually I didn't have too many stories to tell, but she had enough for the both of us. Telling the stories made her a bit more joyful, but something was off. I didn't want to ruin the fun, so I didn't question her about it. But she DID have a question to that I definitely didn't want to answer.
"So Zach, what are parents like here?"
I repressed a sad expression, and gave out a fake "thinking" one instead.
How should I know? I don't want to tell her about a certain event, but at the same time, she seemed pretty curious.
"They are kind.....and....... Loving." I gave her a strained smile. She wasn't buying it. Luckily, she didn't question further, she just nodded her head slowly. After that, we just sat there in awkward silence.
I stared and at her, and she at me.
"Whelp, bed time!" I said loudly, getting up quickly and breaking the awkward silence.
"Yep!" She replied in agreement, and hopped up on my chair.
I walked over to the lamp, and switched it off.
"Zach?" I paused.
" Yeah?"
"You're still a weirdo."
"Just go to sleep."

Chapter 3: The question
"Just ask her already!!"
[4. Jerry lives in Dallas, Texas; his friend David lives in Madison, South Dakota. The two cities can be found on the same longitude line; and the radius of the earth is approximately 6,400 km. Jerry wants to go visit David; so using the arc-length method, calculate how far Jerry must travel to visit his friend in km.]
What the fuck?
I stared at the Trigonometry test (more specifically problem number four) with a mixed look of confusion and frustration.
The class I sat in was your basic, run-of-the-mill trig class. Just a little worse for wear. Everyone sat at desk/chair hybrids, that weren't very well kept. There was gum stuck under the furniture items, and random phrases scratched into them as well. As per some apparent secret rule, posters declaring learning is fun (on which I call bullshit) covered about seventy-five percent of the walls.
The A/C didn't really work, so it was fairly hot in the room; which was making me sweat a little in my light grey t-shirt, and black south pole shorts. The instructor's desk was just like a common teacher's desk. If you have ever seen one. Even had that stupid little name plate they like to have, along with the stereotypical brass apple.
Yellowish light filtered through the bars of the windows, giving a weary feeling to the room. The lights were off, per request of the teacher. Save power and all that jazz.
The test was a twenty question quiz, that was currently testing my patience.
I read over the problem again.
Why the hell doesn't Jerry just use a fuckin GPS? I don't even have the slightest clue to helping him out here. Why should I even care that he is going to visit his friend? He ain't my friend.
Wait. I don't know, but I might know someone who does.
"Hey Dash." I whispered to my backpack.
"Yeah?" She replied in a hushed tone.
"Do you know how to find arc-length using trigonometry?" I asked surreptitiously.
"Trignonwhatzit?" She sounded genuinely confused
Damn it!!
"Aren't you supposed to already know this anyways?" She inquired in a slightly playful tone.
"It isn't my fault they make this stuff boring as hell." I retorted as quietly as I could without losing effect; which was actually pretty silent.
"Doesn't change that you don't know it." She replied smugly.
I gave the bag a menacing glare.
"Smartass."
"Airhead."
I didn't know what was pissing me off more; the test or the rainbow colored pain in my ass.
Back to the dreaded problem. Does anyone have a lighter I could borrow? No? Fuck.
Screw it.
I put my pencil to the paper and began writing.
[First: Why the hell should I care? Second: How the fuck is this important?
Third: Jerry and David could go fuck themselves.]
Satisfied with my answer, I moved on to the next question. No way could they all be this hard.
[5. After visiting his David, Jerry decided to go visit his parents in LA. Calculate the distance using the same method as before.]
In the land of Equestria a distant cry sounded through the royal palace in Canterlot. It reached the ears of a certain alicorn princess and her student, which made the latter look up in confusion.
"Princess, what was that?" The pupil inquired.
The teacher wore an expression of confusion and slight sadness.
"That was the sound of pure anger and frustration." The instructor replied, then she peered out the window and said, " I wonder where it came from..."
This is getting old. I think I'm going to start getting homework from Ms. Salis at this rate.
I mean sure I screamed and tore the quiz to pieces like a madman; but who hasn't?
"That was hilarious." My bag whispered.
"Shut up."
I stared at the laughable excuse of a burger, as I sat in the school's cafeteria. I could hear the bustle of the other students around me as they ate.
I had given Rainbow the salad that came with it; which left me to "enjoy" the hamburger. If it could even be called that. I think I'm considering starvation over the piece of moldy cardboard the school expected us to eat. I'm also pretty sure that red liqu- wait, is that blood? Okay I'm now definitely going with hunger.
*growlllll*
Shut up stomach.
" So President Hoover believed in a laissez-faire policy. This meant that..."
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
WARNING, BOREDOM REACHING CRITICAL LEVELS. DEATH IMMINENT!!
What do we do sir!?!
I don't know Private, he is in *shudder* history class. Call your family son, cause we ain't gonna make it.
But sir there are at least twenty brain cells on this ship, we can't just abandon it.
What can we do? We had a full mental breakdown earlier, I think the stress is getting to the system.
WARNING MIND WANDERING.
We can't just give up Captain!
Okay Private, I'm suddenly inspired to do something about it. POWER UP THE FOCUS DRIVES! PREPARE TO TUNE IN!!
"... So they were called 'Hoovervilles' as an insult to the President."
I think I'm going to somehow go back in time and murder the guy who invented history class.
Normally I would have fallen asleep by now, or said some sarcastic comment, but today I hope to get through this class without acquiring time with she-who-must-not-be-named.
The hilarious part is that I set this same goal every time, yet I always get sent there this period without fail.
I can only wonder how long it'll be until it happens...
Four minutes later...
I sat there, with Ms. Salis's piercing stare sending shivers down my spine. Despite that fact, I still wore my scowl.
"You just HAD to go on a rant about how stupid history is." A certain bag enclosed Pegasus whispered.
"It is." I replied in a low growl.
"It's funny, you remind me of a less egghead version of Twi- I mean somepony I know. Or knew."
Silence.
Wow. Things just got horribly awkward at the wort possible place.
The rest of the time was spent in silence.
Awkward, awkward silence.
Sounds like fun doesn't it?
*RIIINNNNGGGG!!!*
Why does it seem I've been spending more periods in detention lately?
In fact I spent every single period in detention today. I could include the hilarious details, but I'm pretty sure whatever your imagination cooks up will be pretty accurate.
I kinda feel sorry for what I did to that one kid though. I wonder when he'll fully recover...
All in all, a slightly less than normal day.
A deep sigh escaped my lips, as I began my trek home.
Is it just me or has my life began to get more... I don't even know. All I know is that I don't enjoy spending my days with Ms. Salis. Just between you and me, I think she isn't human. For example, sometimes I swear her eyes flash a different color. I may just be going crazy as I think (with good reason) my chemistry teacher is a mad scientist as well.
Ugh.
I need to stop getting stressed out, I don't even know why I am. I don't give a crap about any of this.
Right?
I flopped face-first onto my bed. I felt a weight lift off my back, as Dash left the confinement of my backpack.
"So what's for dinner?" She inquired. My stomach asked the same question.
"I dunno. Probably pizza." I replied with a half groan.
"Doesn't your mom ever make you dinner?"
My eye twitched.
"No." I told the pegasus in a not-so-happy tone.
I turned my gaze towards her. She sat in my chair, a saddened expression pasted on her face.
We stared at each other, having a silent conversation. I could feel her delving into my eyes, as I tried my best to search hers.
It was funny, because they looked so similar to...
"Where's the phone?" I asked as an attempt to change the subject.
"I think it's on the desk." She replied.
I groaned and slowly lifted myself off the bed, then made my way to the device on the hard, wooden, surface. My day has been pretty shitty, but it is about to get better.
"Oh! Now I know why you keep ordering pizza." I arched an eyebrow at her, phone in hand.
"You are in love." A huge grin busted out on her face, as if she just solved some great mystery. A nice red blanket spread across mine.
"HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW THAT!?!?" I yelled.
She began laughing. "It's obvious! You are totally in love with the pizza girl!"
I just stared at her, blushing furiously.
"You should ask her out!" She said in a joking tone. My eyes widened, as I turned redder than a red delicious apple.
"NO!!!" I practically screamed. That only made her devilish smile grow wider.
"Why not? You totally love her, so you should make a move." She waved a hoof for effect.
"What if she says no?" I said in desperation.
"Then you be her best friend ever. And maybe, you'll get another chance." She replied in a more sincere tone.
Fuck. She had me. Maybe she had a point. Maybe I should ask Kate out on a date. Also, why do I get the feeling the columbian blue mare is more experienced at this than me?
"Fine. I'll ask her." I said with a small smile of defeat.
"Alright!" She did a loop, landing back in place, then did this really cute thing where she pushes her cheeks together with her forehooves, making her lips pucker up. "This gonna be SO AWESOME!!" Her voice squeaked on the last two words.
I sighed and dialed the pizza places number.
"Now, what have we learned?"
"Good control."
"Good."
"Eye contact."
"Okay."
"And most of all, confidence."
"Right. Now that you know all the elements of a good date invitation, lets hear one."
Dash, who was previously pacing back and forth next to me, landed in front of me. I, meanwhile, wore a focused look.
I took a deep breath. And began.
"Rainbow Dash," I looked into her magenta eyes, which formed into an innocent look. Then Kate's image popped into my head. "W-W-Will you g-go on a date with me?" My voice suddenly turned meek, I found myself tripping over my words. Which was kinda uncharacteristic for me.
Dash gave me a deadpan look.
"Seriously? You're gonna ask her out like THAT?"
"I may be a LITTLE (understatement) nervous about this." I replied, with a weak smile.
She face palmed. Or is it face hoofed?
"Okay, let's start over again."
Thirty minutes of practice later...
"Rainbow Dash do you want to go out with me?" I asked in total confidence (well feigned).
"PERFECT!!!" The light blue mare clapped her forehooves together and gave me a big grin, in which I reflected back at her. "Now all you gotta do is say that to her." She leaned in towards me, with a confident expression on her face. "Can you do it!?!"
"Yeah!" I pumped my fist.
Dash seems to have a strange ability to inspire confidence in those around her. To get them pumped and hyped up for the task ahead. I swear she would make an awesome one man cheer team. Even if she is a pain in the ass half the time.
A knocking sound echoed through the house. I froze. She's here.
"Are ya just gonna stand there, or are ya gonna go answer the door?" The pegasus asked. I snapped out of it, and headed towards the door. The whole way there, I continued reassuring myself.
Okay. I got this.
I reached the door, took a deep breath, and opened the door...
...to reveal the pizza GUY.
"Okay a large cheese pizza and a bottle of Dr. Pepper. That'll be seven-fifty." He said.
I paid him, and quickly retreated into my home. I then made the journey back to the bedroom. When I entered, I wore a mix of relief, disappointment, and frustration, on my face. Dash had a weak smile on hers.
"We'll just have to try tomorrow." She told me in a comforting tone.
Next night...
Doubts filled my mind, as I paced back and forth on the floor.
What if she says no? What if she doesn't love me back, we only met three days ago. What if she doesn't even want to be my friend? Is the risk too high? Why can't I think of her and talk straight.
"Umm... Zach?" I heard Dash say.
I half replied, "Yeah?" I still paced.
"I think you might want to stop going back and forth like that. You're making a path." She told me. I stopped and looked down. Indeed there was a path going from the door to the bed.
"Oh." She began laughing.
Before I could say anything, there was a knocking at the door.
I burst into action and hurried down the stairs, towards the door.
Okay, this is it. It all comes down to this. Don't fuck this up Zach.
I grasped the handle, and opened the door. There she was. Funny, she looked even more beautiful tonight. Or is that just me? Whatever, it doesn't matter.
"Hi Zach. You okay? You are sweating." She told me, in a tone that suggested she knew what I was planning. But she probably didn't know. I was sweating though, pure nervousness was dripping from my skin.
What are you waiting for?
"Umm... Yeah, how about you?" I replied, as I rubbed the back of my head.
Come on ask her!
"Good, that'll be seven-fifty by the way." She gave me a smile.
I paid her, and she began to walk away.
YOU ARE LOSING HER! NOW OR NEVER!! You're right me. I need to man up.
"Wait!" I called out. She turned around, as I jogged up to her and looked her in the eyes.
I threw Dash's rules out the window as I just spoke my heart. This was it. No distractions, no hesitation. It all comes down to this. YOLO right?
"Kate Wake, will you go out with me?"

Fall winter friends part one
"GOOD MORNING!!!!" A scratchy voice screamed, causing me to jump twenty feet into the air.
I landed on the floor with a loud thud. Rubbing my aching head, I glared up at grinning Rainbow Dash.
I proceeded to open my mouth to say something which turned out to be a mistake as a launched bowl of mashed potatoes smashed into my face followed by sounds of laughter.
My vision was blocked but my hearing wasn't. I heard TWO sets of giggles. The second set sounded familiar....
Oh shit.
"RAINBOW QUICK HIDE!" I yelled as I quickly tackled the general area where the pegasus supposedly was resulting in me tackling my chair.
"Wow. You were right! He IS slow in the mornings!" The familiar voice said as the chair impacted with my face resulting in a shot of pain. The end result was me going head over heels over the chair and ending up on my back with a second bump on my head.
Stars circled my vision as the bowl was lifted to reveal a blurry figure leaning over the fallen chair.
My vision cleared revealing none other than one I knew to be Kate Wake, who giggled then said,"Good morning Ditzy Doo."
I just stared at her wide-eyed. I shook my head clear then tried to rise only to have my hand slip on fallen potatoes, sending me to the floor again.
"Need help?" She asked, stifling a laugh.
"No, no...." I replied trying to retain what little remained of my dignity (and my sanity). It was lost as I slipped again. "I got this." I then gripped the overturned chair and proceeded to pulled myself up. After finally succeeding. I inspected myself then groaned.
"You okay Ditzy?" Kate asked innocently.
I tried to glare at her. However, her being my crush and all, I simply couldn't.
"I'm going to go take my shower", I grumbled as I started my way toward the door. Then as an after-thought I added, "And don't call me Ditzy!"
I emerged from the bathroom refreshed and my thoughts in order for the first time this morning.
Okay. So somehow Rainbow and Kate met, befriended each other and now they are both in my bedroom.....
HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN!?!?
My mind tried its best to process the information life had inserted into my brain. After that I came to a conclusion: I'm going insane. The thought entered my head but was dismissed quickly. I then tried to recall the events of last night.
I ordered pizza, she came, I asked her out....then black.
WHAT HAPPENED!?!
Well whatever happened, I just had to try my best to roll with it. She is the girl of my dreams, so retaining my sanity should be possible right?
Best not jinx myself.
I entered my bedroom to find that the two had decided to make themselves comfortable. Namely reorganize my room . They were still talking with each other as I remained frozen in the doorway.
Everything was out of place. My bed was pushed against the shelf that held my random things of interest, the desk now lay under the window with the chair to its left (why the heck they had decided it was a good idea to put the chair there I'll never know) and my drawings, MY DRAWINGS! No,no,no! On the recently cleared-away wall, random sketches were pinned for all guests to see.
At this point they noticed me as my eye began to twitch.
"Umm you okay Zach?", Rainbow asked with a worrisome tone.
Kate then added, "Are you gonna fall into another coma? You look kinda sick."
WHAT!?!? ANOTHER COMA!?! If you could peer at my face at this moment you would see that it was a pale white, as my features were distorted in a mixture of pure anger and extreme horror. My left eye twitched erratically.
My humble abode had been destroyed, my reality shattered and somehow I had fallen into a coma. I wanted to scream. I wanted to tear everything apart. I wanted to rip my hair out. But none of that happened. All my thoughts were basically summed up into one word.
"Fuck." I whispered shakily. Before either of the two could respond, I screamed and ran out the door.
Snow.
It blanketed the world around me. The homes, the roads, everything. In addition, the air was crisp and everything was silent. Well, as quiet as it could be in this city. I enjoyed the winters. Even when they seem to surprise me out of nowhere due to my reality exploding.
No matter what goes wrong, no matter how confusing things get, winter is always there to bring my life back into order. When the snow covers the world it is as if we are given a clean slate. All the dirt of our mistakes washed away.
If only that were true.
The crunch of my shoes on the snow was audible among the morning silence. No one seemed to really be awake yet. I took a deep breath, full of the cool air, feeling it calm my senses. When I exhaled the visible vapors billowed forth, as if the morning's stress had taken an observable form and decided to take flight. The warmth of my black South Pole sweater kept me from shivering.
I closed my eyes briefly as I reflected back on the events of my life. Even before the light blue pegasus entered my life things had always been hectic at best; just one screw up after another followed by me scrambling to fix them. One might call my past a tragic one, but as bad as it was nothing could be done to change it now. Not a thing had changed since that day. Nothing will. My life will continue on its downward spiral and the events of today will be written off as strange occurrences in the book that is my timeline.
It makes me wonder if I ever had control in the first place; No doubt I didn't. Of course the true tragedy of it all was that I didn't care anymore. Like I have said before, when something bad happens people often tend to become desensitized to it and I am not immune to this fact. This is a world of chaos; nothing is certain. The only thing that is certain is that uncertainty.
Then a thought entered my mind:
Rainbow. More specifically, Rainbow Dash.
She came from a world of total harmony. Everything was predictable, even the weather. The sun rose and set at an exact time, even the stars' positions were planned. What was it like? To live in such a world. A world of near perfection. One where all problems could be solved by magic and if it couldn't, then it wasn't worth the trouble. A damn utopia compared to what this world is like. But there was one constant between this place of chaos and that land of harmony.
Death.
Magic or not, death came for us all. It was inevitable as much as it was unpredictable. Nothing could stop it. Not even the heartbroken pleas of a child.
It makes me wonder how my magical resident saw this world of which I live. Did she understand it? Does it scare her? I would have to ask.
How did she get here in the first place anyways? That is the thing that confuses me the most about her. It seems that life decided to throw me a second curve ball; but have I caught this one? Or is it still speeding towards me? Only time will tell.
At that moment a bird flew overhead and landed on a nearby tree. Normally I wouldn't have given any notice such an occurrence, but something was different about this bird. It was primarily a bright pure white with specks of black on its breast. It wasn't a pigeon, or a crow, it was something else entirely. Then something even more strange, amazing even, happened.
It began to sing.
It was low at first. Then its notes rose and fell as it sung its somber tune. There was something about the song that seemed to pluck at my heartstrings. It reminded me of.....something. Something I couldn't quite put my finger on. It was as though it was addressing a part of me that simply wasn't there.
I couldn't help but feel a sense of kinship with the bird. You know...a part of me knew, or thought, that the bird felt the same. For a fleeting moment I was drawn closer to it. We were two beings of imperfection, two souls dancing to the same somber tune. The song rose to a climax then flatlined. At that point it hit me.
A dove. That's what the bird was. A dove.
Suddenly struck by the muse of art I swiftly turned and began to walk away. A bird chirped and it found its way onto my shoulder. I glanced over at the white and black dove and a small smirk found its way into my face.
"Okay Muse. If you really want to come...", I said aloud.
The bird whistled in response.
I nickered, then began making my way to face the insane mess that was my home. Maybe I still had some semblance of control. Maybe.... It wasn't too late. Only time could tell.

Of Rainbows and Men
Chapter one: The day my life was turned upside down.
"In life, nothing is certain."
Hi I'm Zach, Zach Summers. I'm no one special; in fact I am just a failure. Or at least that's what everybody says I am. My parents died when I was a kid. Ever since then, my whole life has just become one straight drop down a bottomless trench.
By the time I got into high school; I was a mess, I had gotten into gangs, and my grades were terrible. I possessed no friends, no real friends, if you want to call the fellow scumbags in my gang "friends" then be my guest. I live in some god forsaken slums in the middle of Detroit.
The school I go to, is pretty terrible, Kennedy High School. The school didn't give a damn about what the students did, as long as they got the grades. Bullies ran rampant, and you could just as easily get shot at school as anywhere else in this shitty town. Luckily I was a part of a gang so I got "protection" from bullies. Protection as in the guy will be shot the next day. What about me? I haven't ever shot anyone, and hopefully I don't ever have to.
Death is an everyday occurrence in my life. When something bad happens regularly like that, people tend to stop caring and just ignore it. They become desensitized to it. My house was only a block away from the school in the war-zone that was my neighborhood. The "home" I lived in, was about as homely as a shack. Actually, I'd take a shack over that dump any day of the week.
Well that was my life, and it seemed to only get worse. Then, one day, the strangest thing I had ever experienced happened...

"MR. SUMMERS!!!"
I shot awake, and nearly fell out of my chair, drawing laughter from my classmates.
Welcome to my chemistry class, boys and girls. Looks like the designer made it to match the teacher's personality. The class was clean, with glossy black counters serving as desks. Tall chairs were positioned behind them, with students sitting in them.
I was the one with short, spiked, brown hair. I had on a white shirt that had the picture from some hip hop artist's album on it, and was wearing black South Pole shorts with a pocket chain. I had on medium length white socks, and a pair of black Lugz. I had around my head a bandana with a picture of a viper on it, representing my gang, The Vipers.
Now you might wonder, what is a poor kid is doing with nice clothes? Well being in a gang has its benefits. Like money. I was about five foot eight in height, and was about average weight. I was fairly muscular, but it wasn't very visible. I was white, which is pretty ironic, considering that almost everyone in the school was either Black or Mexican.
Back to the classroom. The walls used to be white, and posters lined them. They all had terrible puns about how fun learning can be. I don't get why they make them in the first place, no one pays any attention to them. The floor was tiled, slightly cracked, and a bland beige.
The teacher was your typical evil mad scientist. His name being, Mr. Barcelona, he enjoyed embarrassing students, and making our lives hell. His labs always involved something that could possibly blow up the whole school. I swear his getting a job as a teacher is the eighth wonder of the world. He was a middle aged man, with grayish-black hair, that was messy. He wore a white lab coat complete with a dress shirt and tie underneath. He looks so much like a mad scientist; it even makes me wonder if there is some sort of conspiracy, because no one believes me when I say he is one.
"Mr. Summers would you mind telling us the chemical composition of oil?" His voice was laced with the evil of his intentions.
"Umm..." My mind was blanking, I WAS having an amazing dream about flying through the clouds above a beautiful landscape, but now I was back in cruel reality. Come on think! I never really paid any attention in my chemistry class. Then again, I never paid attention in ANY of my classes.
"Carbon? And... Oxygen?" The air filled with laughter, and the teacher had an amused, yet aggravated look. I would have been embarrassed, if I wasn't still groggy from my nap.
"Mr. Summers, did you have a long night of studying? Or did you rot what's left of your brain with wasteful video games?"
It was rhetorical question, but I wasn't really thinking straight, so I did a very dumb thing.
"I was busy trying to figure out what type of mental sickness you have." I retorted, "How do you spell, crazyfuckingteacheritis?" I gave him a mockingly inquiring look. The room fell silent, as everyone stared at me with wide-eyed expressions. The realization hit me, along with the withering glare Mr. Barcelona was giving me. I tried my best to keep my composure, but his angry look was terrifying.
The class burst out laughing. The teacher kept his stare. I just committed suicide; NO ONE ever talks to him like that. I guess they were giving me a warm goodbye.
"Mr. Summers..." He growled, "You just earned yourself two hours detention. Maybe you can think about your actions there." The room silenced itself when he spoke.
I just stood up with my backpack, and quietly walked out of the tenth circle of hell.
The school was divided up into in multiple buildings. Four were for classrooms, and one was for administration. They had the student ones on two sides in rows, with the admin building at the end of the two rows, in the middle, it made it look more intimidating that way. The cafeteria was in the middle, to cut down on traffic to it I guess.
Everything was so bland. The school's attempts to make things more vibrant, wasn't working. It doesn't help when you have lockers lining the walls of the halls, and the walls look like crap. Most of the lockers were damaged too.
Hey look we're here. I guess that boring talk about my horrible school took longer than I thought.
I casually walked into detention. The teacher that ran it, was a middle aged woman with blonde hair, and a red dress. To be honest she was pretty hot. Unfortunately she was both older than me, and hated me. She even went through the trouble to make a sign that read, "Reserved for Zach Summers" on a desk farthest from the door. This was to mock the fact that I was constantly in there. Her name was Ms. Salis. Charming right?
"Hello again Zach. Right on schedule I see." Her lips curled into a cruel smile. Why is it always the good looking ones that are evil?
"You know me," I replied with a groan, "I aim to please."
The room was devoid of students, so that left me to be able to fully take in her hate. The room was like your normal classroom. Except that the room seemed darker. But I'm pretty sure that's just me.
The next hour was excruciating. She stared at me with cold green eyes. It was freaking creepy. It was like she was studying me, like I was her prey. I couldn't sleep and the clock thought it would be hilarious to slow down.
Sweat started to soak into my bandana, as I stared at the time device like my life depended on it. I just couldn't stand to think about her eyes locked on to me. Yet I still did. The minute hand moved an inch. The second hand seemed to taunt me with its speed. It swear it went around twice before the minute hand even THOUGHT about moving.
This is going to be a very long hour.

I burst through the door of detention, a huge look of relief, and joy, plastered all over my face. The air never felt more refreshing. Sweet freedom! One more second in there and I would have killed myself.
"Ey, Zach!!" I turned to the source of the voice, to see a tall muscular Mexican guy, with a white tank top, and baggy black pants. He wore similar shoes to mine, and had a bandana with a viper on it. He wore the same look I did. A barely noticeable smirk.
"Hey Eddie!! What's up?" When we reached each other, we did our usual handshake, sliding our hands and fist bumping.
"Nothin' much guero. Hey you wanna hang out man?"
I shook my head, "Nah man, I got to watch the house today." I replied, which was partially true. The truth was, I was tired. I needed to get some sleep. But I knew he wouldn't take that excuse.
"That sucks guero. Okay see ya tomorrow, stay cool man." He wasn't one to just stick around and talk without the rest of our crew. We did our usual handshake, and I began my walk home.
The school was butt ugly on the outside. I swear who ever designed this place, must have been high off his ass. It looked like it was an old rusted prison instead of a school. It probably was a prison at some point.
Our neighborhood was pretty, no very, rundown. The houses looked more like shacks, and barely held together. All the windows were boarded, barred, or dirty. Very few actually worked.
Luckily, I was one of the fortunate few that got a functional working window. That made my house easy to spot. Just look for the two story shithole, with the only functional window on the second floor. The walls were worn down, and the door had bars on it. The building wasn't exactly in one piece.
Speak of the devil, there it is.
I walked up to the door, grasped the door knob and turned. I then pushed on the piece of crap door for it to move a centimeter then not budge.
Again? Really?
I pushed harder, and it refused to move.
Fine you retarded door, you wanna play that way?
I backed up then the kicked the door as hard as I could, and it relented. An inch.
Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Time to end it.
I charged the door and slammed into it with my shoulder. It swung open, and I was greeted by the smell of cigarette smoke. I coughed slightly, then entered, rubbing the throbbing pain in my shoulder from smashing into a metal barred door. Not the best of my ideas.
"Mom?" I called out. The house reeked of cigarette smoke again, that usually meant she is, or was, home. I'll go with the latter, mostly because I would have gotten a response by now. I walked in and shut the door behind me.
Welcome to my "house". Between the wallpaper peeling off the walls, and the stink of cigarettes, I question who actually thought this would be a good place to raise me.
Or anyone.
It was like we picked it up at the city dump, and then called it home. The hilarious part is that is what basically happened. The city was going to tear this place down, then we moved in. So yea, this place is literally a dump.
To start, we have the living room, more like the dying room. It consist of an in-more-than-one-piece couch, and a crappy T.V. Oh, and the million cigarette butts and empty bottles of alcohol on the lopsided table and semi-couch. Now we have two choices, stairs on the right that lead to the bathroom, and bedrooms, or the kitchen to the left. How about we start with the kitchen, and not brave the messed up, creaky, stairs just yet.
Well first off, I wouldn't call it a kitchen. It's more like a barely intact room that happens to have food in it once on a while. Since I have my own source of income, I usually get take out. At least we have a fridge that works, because that's where I keep the leftovers to heat in our microwave. Isn't that Ironic? We don't have an oven, and we have a sink that kind of works, yet we have a microwave. I don't get it either, so don't ask. The tiles that make up-actually there aren't really any tiles left on the floor.
After deciding if I wanted to have leftovers, or just order pizza, I ventured up the stairs, each step extracting a creak from the boards. The phone was in my room, but I needed to use the bathroom first.
The bathroom was well, believe it or not the most intact part of our "house". Yea sure around half the tiles are missing, and the walls look like shit, but the shower and toilet actually WORK. The mirror is pretty dirty, but it still does the job. Let's not forget the cliched, "single light bulb hanging from a wire".
Well after I finished my business, I left the bathroom and headed for my bedroom. Now my bedroom is the second most intact room, due to the fact I live in it, and I would prefer to not have it collapse on me while I sleep.
I opened the door to my room and walked in, tossing my bag to the side. I then walked over to my purple colored mattress and hopped on it, swiping the phone up as I did. Dialing the neighborhood pizza place, I laid my head down on my beige pillow.
My room looked very nice. But it was a deception. Sure I painted the walls white, but I didn't actually fix them. I have a double sided, green and yellow blanket, and clothes all over the place. I also own a desk; it's actually the nicest thing in the whole god damned neighborhood. It comes complete with a chair.
What do I do at the desk? Well not homework obviously. Who does that? No, I do something far better.
Draw.
I don't really draw about anything in particular, just things I experience and see. Things that pique my interest. Think of it as a personal journal of sorts. Except the book is the desk, and the entries, the pages I fill with drawings. I never let anyone see them. They are a representation of my own personal thoughts and feelings. Not anyone's business.
Besides, as far as anyone knows, I’m too tough to do something like that, if any of my fellow crew members found out about it... I would be finished. I may be a guy with no future, but at least I'm a guy with no future who can draw. A single lamp provided the light for my room, the same goes for every other room in this god forsaken house.
I have shelves with various things I like to collect, but that isn't important.
"Okay, bye"
I hung up the phone. As usual I had to spend the first hour trying to convince the guy who answered to just shut up and take my order. But at the end, I finally was able to order a pepperoni pizza, with a bottle of Dr.Pepper.

A loud knocking at the door woke me from my nap. I jerked awake, and groaned.
Must be the pizza guy.
"COMING!!" I yelled, as I slowly rose, and sauntered over to the window. The cool thing about having a functional window, facing the front of your house, is that you can see who is knocking on the door. Like the chick delivering your pizza being a total hottie.
She had beautiful medium length, hair. She was fairly slender in figure, and wore the company's uniform. The company uniform consisted of a red baseball cap with their logo on it, a white polo, and black pants.
I burst from my bedroom room, and tore down the stairs, cash in my hand. My hair was slightly messy, but I didn't notice. There was a super hot chick on my doorstep, and I couldn't make her wait.
My breathing was heavy and sweat beaded my forehead, from the burst of action. Yea, definitely from the burst of action and not from the cute girl on the other side of that door.
I calmed my breathing, and slowly opened the door as casually as I could.
I can't screw this up.
"Umm... hi. You the pizza gu- erm, girl?" I said nervously.
Damn it!!! Strike one. Get yourself together Zach!
She laughed a little, closing her wonderful sky-blue eyes.
How in the name of all things sacred, is this girl not taken? How do I know? Well let's just say I have a sense for such things and leave it at that.
"Hi, and yes I am. What's your name?"
Holy shit, did she just ask my name!?!? Okay, play it cool.
"Zach Runners-I mean Summers." I found myself tripping over my speech.
WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!?
"How about yours?" Yes a complete sentence!
She smiled warmly, and handed me my pizza, snapping me out of my trance.
"Kate Wake. Now that will be seven-twenty five." She replied.
I handed her the ten and said, "The change is for you."
Smooth move, Mr. Cassanova.
She laughed at the attempt, and began walking away.
"See you another time Zach."
She got in her car and drove off, while I stood there, with an entranced look on my face.
I think I'm in love.

I sat at my desk, with the window open, drawing what I had just seen three hours ago. She was so beautiful.
I turned my gaze to out my window and sighed. Night had fallen about an hour ago. My supply of pizza had run out about an hour ago.
I just couldn't get her out of my head. A star began to glow brighter. She was so nice too. The dot in the sky grew bigger, but I was too entranced by my new crush to notice.
Suddenly the star was pretty big, big enough for me to notice.
Then straight out of nowhere something slammed into me, throwing me from my chair and onto the floor, with a loud *THUD*. My vision blurred as the air was knocked out of me. I felt something warm on my chest. I painfully turned my head to see the strangest thing I had seen in my life.
It looked like something straight out of a children's show. It was cyan, with wings, and had a rainbow tail, complete with rainbow hair. Its eyes were magenta. I could tell because, it had one eye closed, with a painful expression on its face and rubbing the back of its head. Wait a minute. Now that I think about it, it looked kind of like a horse with wings. That makes a little more sense. Crap I feel shock wearing down enough for panic to set in.
That happened right when we made eye contact.
We both screamed and I punched it square in the nose, and it fell to unconsciousness.
Holy shit......... I just fucking punched out a rainbow colored winged, horse looking thing in my bedroom!
My panic doubled, as the fear spread across my face.
Fuck!Fuck!Fuck! What do I fucking do!?! I began pacing back and forth, hands gripping my head. I HAVE A KNOCKED OUT ALIEN IN MY FUCKING BEDROOM!!
Crap! What do I fucking do!? Umm play it cool, when it wakes up I'll hope it won't be angry.
I crept towards it, and poked it. Its eyes shot open, and it kicked out with its rear legs, which connected square with my chest. I went flying across the room, and slammed against the opposite wall.
My yelp of pain came in the form of, "HOLY FUCK!!" My breathing hurt and sweat beaded my forehead. Did I just get my ass kicked by something one forth my size? Chest condition: I'll live. Pride condition: Pretty bad shape. I think it knocked the shock straight out of me. Nope, still there. It was even more scared of me, seeing that its fear filled face, was the last thing I saw before something smashed into my face.

My eyes slowly opened to find that I was tied to my chair. Also that my new acquaintance was staring me in the face, with a serious look on its face.
I was torn between screaming at the fact I was taken hostage by a rainbow colored horse thing, or crying at the fact that it kicked my ass and it was less than half my size. I decided on a frozen look of confusion and panic.
We stared at each other for a full minute. It must have been in as much shock as I was, seeing as she was in a strange place, with an alien as a hostage.
Now is the part where we play the waiting game. We stare at each other until one of us cracks. I might win, because its expression slowly began to quiver. The air was so thick with tension, that one could make soup with it.
Tension soup. Yummy.
I could feel my expression start to shake. A trickle of sweat found its way down the side of my face. Sweat beaded on its forehead as well. We stared into the others soul. I couldn't take it much longer, and by what I could tell. Neither could it. We both broke at the same time.
"What the fuck are you!"
"What the buck are you!"
What the hell? Did it just talk? Assuming that it could talk, and understand me. I chose my next words wisely.
"I asked first, you crazy motherfucker!" Behold my limited wisdom.
She (seeing as she was probably intelligent, and would take offense to being called an "it". Also the fact that she looked like a "she") was taken aback from that reaction. But that didn't stop her from stomping a bit and glaring at me.
"I am the one asking questions, weirdo. Now what are you and where am I?"
I stared at her defiantly. Well as defiantly as I could, seeing as I was still feeling the shock of being taken hostage by an alien in my own bedroom. However based off the look on her face, she wasn't going to have any of it. Which makes her a damned good actor; because I'm willing to bet she still is in shock.
"I'm Zach. I was just in my room minding my own business when a fuckin' rainbow colored winged horse just crashed into ME." I attempted a serious look, but the shock of having a rainbow colored, winged, horse smash into me while I was in my room, was still hanging on to me. She began flapping her wings, and rose up to my eye level still trying to stare into my soul.
"I am a pony! Also it isn't my fault you weren't paying attention!" She snapped.
"Okay rainbow colored winged PONY! There happy!?!?" I retorted.
We both had a second staring match. The tension in the air was unbearable. At first I thought I saw anger in her eyes. But after minute of staring, I saw fear and frustration even panic.
She was just as confused and afraid as I was. Okay, time to be the rational one. Sure she is a cartoon looking pony, and sure I am scared shitless right now, but there is not going to be any progress without being calm. Besides, she doesn't seem to be the type to stay calm in a situation like this.
Then it hit me. Here I am, tied to a chair, in an argument with a rainbow colored winged cartoon pony in my bedroom. My eyes widened in realization of the ridiculousness of this whole situation. Then I just burst out laughing uncontrollably. Waves of laughter rolled through my body as her expression changed from anger, to confusion.
"Hey! What's so funny?!?"
I paused for a moment to say, “Oh nothing, I'm just ARGUING WITH A STRANGE CREATURE I NEVER MET BEFORE IN MY OWN BEDROOM WHILE TIED TO A CHAIR!!!!!!" Okay I think I just lost it. A look of realization appeared on her face. I wonder if it was because the situation caught up to her, or due to the crazed look on my face.
She sighed, and rubbed the back of her head. Sensing the moment of weakness I ceased my laughter and seized the opportunity.
"So who, and what, are you?" I asked as calmly as I could, holding back and giggles left in me. At least the shock was starting to wear off. Mostly because freaking out got old.
This took her off guard, so she just stammered back, "W-Well I'm Rainbow D-Dash." She's losing confidence. I guess a name will do.
"Well Rainbow Dash, nice to meet you." I replied. Number one rule when dealing with aliens: be polite.
Don't pay attention to earlier; I had just forgotten that for a bit. It is harder to remember things when you're in shock.
Hey I may be a fuck up, but my gut instinct says be nice to the pony who has you tied to a chair. "Now will you mind untying me? I don't really like being tied to chairs."
She slowly untied me. Based off her movements, I could tell she didn't trust me. But this momentary truce would have to do. After she finished we both just stared at each other. It felt pretty awkward. There was one question that was nagging at me. Also the shock had pretty much dissipated by then.
What to do with her?
I could just kick her out. No. She would get torn apart out there. I can see it on her eyes, she's never experienced death. Especially on a daily basis, like I do. Also, she is scared. It's pretty obvious. Seeing she is shaking pretty heavily. I sighed.
I can't believe I'm doing this.
"So Rainbow, you wanna stay with me? Seeing as you just landed in a new mysterious world, and you have nowhere to stay." Attention everybody, the ice has been broken! I gave her a nervous smile, and rubbed the back of my head with a hand.
She looked like she was debating it. But I knew the ultimate answer would be.
"Okay. But don't try anything funny." She gave the "I'm watching you look." Her voice was still a bit shaky, and scratchy. Actually I think that's her normal voice.
I put my hands up defensively. "I won't. Anyways aren't you sore from a fall like that?" I asked. The look on her face confirmed my suspicions.
"Maybe... Doesn't mean I still can't buck your hide across the room." She growled.
"Point taken. Now whether you like it or not, there are some rules." I replied sternly. Yup shock has definitely resided. She responded by letting out a snort, and crossing her forelegs, with an angry look on her face.
"One: Don't get seen. You were lucky I was the one you ran into. Had it been someone else, you would be in a much worse position right now." She gave a nod that said she understood.
"Two: Stay here. Nobody ever goes into my room, so it will be safe place. I know you'll get bored, but it is better than being dead. Or worse." She rolled her eyes. I don't think she is taking this seriously. But I'm pretty sure survival is a good incentive to listen to me.
"Three: DON'T go through my drawings. They are very personal, and I don't need a rainbow colored horse going through them."
"I'm a pony." She corrected.
"I don't care if you are a fucking robot, DON'T GO THROUGH MY DRAWINGS."
She drew back at that.
"Okay, fine. I won't. But what do you expect me to do all day?" She had a point.
"Something, other than leave, or touch my drawings." I said stubbornly.
"Fine. I'll follow your stupid rules. I'm tired anyways. Good night." She was very irritated. There was something else there too, I could tell. But I was in no mood to question her about it. She hopped up on my chair, and curled into a ball.
I let out a yawn. I should probably turn in too. I turned off the light. Then laid down in the bed and didn't even bother to get undressed or pull the blanket over me. It just felt awkward getting undressed with her in the room.
I sighed heavily, and stuffed my head in my pillow.
This can't turn out well. Hey maybe if I'm lucky, I will wake up at my desk, and find out this was all a dream.
Doubt it.
