Another day has ended in the town of Ponyville as many of the locals began to close their shops and businesses and make their way to their homes. Mr and Mrs. Cake were closing up Sugarcube Corner, Rarity was closing the boutique, and Fluttershy was gathering all of her animals up and bringing them back to her cottage. Normally on most nights, many of the residents would keep their businesses open just a little bit longer to drum up some extra business. However, the residents of the little town in Equestria were not willing to stay out late on this night because of one particular reason.

This night was Nightmare Night.

The one night in Equestria were the denizens of this great land remember the legends of Nightmare Moon and all of the little fillies and colts would adorn their favorite costumes and roam the streets in search of candy, while some of the more mischievous ponies would pull pranks on unsuspecting victims. One such pony in particular was a cyan blue pegasus with a rainbow mane and cutie mark. Rainbow Dash giggled to herself and she stuffed her sack full of eggs, paint, and toilet paper and flew from her home to cause as much mischief and she could. Scootaloo had already left for Sweet Apple Acres to trick or treat with her Crusader friends which meant Dash was free to prank. The best flyer in all of Equestria soared through the sky until she was high enough in the air to survey the entire town and began to look for her first victim. Her eyes caught sight of a cream white pony with a styled purple mane and a triple diamond cutie mark.

Rarity

The element of generosity was helping her little sister Sweetie Belle collect candy seeing as how she felt that the little filly was still too young to trick or treat on her own, despite Sweeties constant annoyance. The two of them were on their way to Sweet Apple Acres to meet up with their good friends Applejack and her little sister Applebloom. As they continued trotting along, the only thing that could be heard was the sound of Sweetie Belle complaining.

"I still don't understand why you always feel the need to go with me" Sweetie Belle said glancing at her big sister. Rarity looked down at her sister and smiled.

"Because no matter how big you think you are you are still too young to venture off on your own" she replied in her usual prim and proper accent.

Sweetie Belle just huffed and looked down at the ground as they continued to walk, completely unaware of the of the maliciously mischievous mare flying above them. Rainbow Dash looked through her bag of tricks and pulled out two things that she knew would really set Rarity off. She pulled out a little trick mirror that was supposed to make anyone who looked into it look horrible and a bottle of spray paint that she had re-labeled it as what she calls 'beauty spray'. She laughed to herself as she quickly flew down towards her friend and landed right in front of them making the two ponies jump, having not expected the sudden appearance of their friend. Upon noticing it was Rainbow Dash, Rarity smiled at her friend.

"Oh Rainbow Dash you really mustn't just drop in on us like that darling" she said. Dash just smiled as innocently as possible.

"Yeah sorry about that I just wanted to meet up with you before we head over to the library for Twilight's slumber party" she said in her slightly raspy voice. Suddenly she put on a look of fake shock and took a step back.

"What is it?" Rarity asked concerned. Rainbow pulled out the trick mirror and held it up in front of Rarity's face. When Rarity looked in the mirror her eyes grew even larger than they already were and she screamed.

"AHHHHH"

In the mirror her reflection had a matted and tangle mane, her make-up looked like it had been done for a clown, and her fur was all covered in dark splotches of dirt.

"I look absolutely horendous" Rarity replied in horror. Sweetie Belle looked like she was about to say that there was really nothing wrong with Rarity but she snuck a peek at Rainbow Dash who winked at her which caused her to smirk and nod.

"Yeah you do" Dash replied with a bit of a chuckle.

Rarity snatched the mirror from Dash and fell on her haunch looking like she was ready to break down crying. Rainbow looked at Sweetie Belle who looked like she was ready to start laughing, knowing it was all a joke. Dash then reached into her bag and pulled out the bottle of paint and handed it to Rarity.

"Here try this" Rarity looked up from the mirror for a split second and looked at the bottle. She grabbed it and held it in her hoof as she read the front.

"Beauty Spray, what does it do?" she asked almost sobbing.

"Well I got it the last time I visited Canterlot, the vendor said that when you spray yourself it instantly makes you beautiful" Dash explained with a smile.

Without even a second thought, Rarity quickly thrust the mirror back to Rainbow Dash and sprayed every single inch of herself with the 'beauty spray'. She had sprayed so much that it had created an orange cloud around the three ponies. When the cloud had finally cleared, Rainbow Dash and Sweetie Belle almost fell over laughing at the sight before them. There stood Rarity with orange spray paint splotches all over her muzzle, her mane, her body, her flank, her legs, and her hooves.

"How do I look?" she asked with a smile showing the orange splotches on her teeth. That did it for Dash and Sweetie Belle as they both let out the biggest laugh ever and fell to the ground holding their aching stomachs. Rarity looked at the two completely confused.

"What in Celestia's name is so funny?"

Finally able to take a hoof away from her stomach, Rainbow Dash handed Rarity a real mirror and the moment she saw her reflection, the once cream white turned orange spotted mare let out a horrified shriek. Dash finally got to her hooves and put all of her pranks back in her sack.

"Happy Nightmare Night" she said before shooting off into the sky and out of sight. Rarity looked over at her little sister who was still laughing so hard. Sweetie Belle wiped the tears from her eyes and finally noticed her big sister giving her one of the biggest glares she had ever seen. Giving off a small innocent smile, Sweetie Belle bolted away ignoring the raging calls from her sister.

Twilight Sparkle had a huge smile on her face as she was putting the finishing touches on what she believed would be the best slumber party ever. This time not only will her five friends be joining her but also their little siblings as well so she went all out to make this the best night ever. Currently they were out trick or treating but as soon as they finish they would all be knocking on her door. She had an assortment of different pillows that would be used for their pillow fights, supplies and different make up pallets for makeovers, bowls of pretty much every candy there was in Equestria as well as other snacks and beverages all lined up on a huge table. Speaking of which, she noticed a small, purple, scaly claw reaching up onto the table for the candy.

"Spike that is not for eating until everyone gets here" she scolded. The claw immediately retracted and from behind the table, Spike the small purple dragon emerged.

"Aww come on Twilight can't I just have one piece" he begged. He then put on the biggest puppy dog face that he could muster and Twilight looked right into those huge cute eyes and smiled.

"Awwwww" she cooed walking over and patting his scaly head with her hoof.

"Nope you've got to wait like everyone else" she said and walked off. Spike's face then changed from puppy dog to disappointed as he grumbled and walked off after the purple unicorn pony. Twilight used her magic to conjure up a checklist of everything to make sure she had what she need.

"Let's see, pillows for pillow fights" she looked over at all the pillows and smiled before checking them off the list. She then did the exact same thing for the make-up supplies and the food table. Spike only grunted.

"An annoyed dragon who can't get a piece of candy until everyone comes" he mumbled to himself, completely unaware that Twilight had heard him.

"Check" she smiled and checked that off of her list as well.

"Hey"

Twilight giggled as she continued walking around the library and away from the annoyed looking dragon who walked off to another part of the library. Suddenly the sound of a knock on the door made Twilight gasp and smile with joy as she made her way to the door and opened it wide to greet her friends.

"Hi guys welcome to..." Twilight stopped dead in her tracks and her mouth fell to the ground when she saw what was at the door. There stood a very orange spotted and angry looking Rarity, an egg splattered Applejack who looked equally angry, and a toilet paper mummified Fluttershy who for once in her life looked truly angry and annoyed. Next to the three of them were a smiling and laughing Rainbow Dash and three equally laughing little fillies named Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, and Applebloom. Twilight picked her mouth up off the ground and stared at her friends in disbelief.

"Do I want to know?" she asked.

The other ponies simply ignored their friend and trotted into the library and stood in the center of the room with Rainbow and the crusaders still laughing as they entered. All three of the older ponies looked the pegasus and the little earth ponies and unicorn with glares.

"I find nothing about this funny" Rarity said angrily.

"Why in tarnation would you do somethin' like this?" Applejack asked with her thick country accent.

Fluttershy tried to say something as well but it only came out in a muffled garble because the toilet paper was wrapped securely around her mouth. Twilight walked up to her shy pegasus friend and unwrapped her as the yellow pony smiled.

"Thank you Twilight" she said in her meek but sweet voice. Twilight smiled back at her friend and looked at the rest of the group.

"Now would somepony please tell me what the hay happened here" she said.

"Well apparently Rainbow Dash decided that it would be a good idea to trick me into spray painting myself with orange spots" Rarity pointed an accusing hoof at her blue friend.

"Yeah and then she turned me into a chicken coop" Applejack explained wiping away some egg out of her face.

"T-then she m-mummified me" Fluttershy stuttered trying to sound angry.

Rainbow Dash and the three fillies finally stopped laughing and wiped their eyes.

"Oh come one guys it was just a few pranks"

Twilight surveyed the room and noticed the lack of presence of another pony. Normally it was never this quiet when all of her friends were in the same place.

"Uhm where is Pinkie?" she asked. All of a sudden the puffy haired, party loving pink earth pony popped out from behind her.

"Here I am" she said loudly. Twilight screamed and jumped in fear and ran off to the other side of the room. This caused Dash and the fillies to start laughing again.

"Oh my Celestia, I didn't think it was possible to laugh so hard and so much in one night" Rainbow Dash wheezed out.

Twilight having calmed down made her way back to the center of the room and glared at her pink friend.

"Pinkie you have to stop popping out like that or your going to give somepony a heart attack" she scolded.

The energetic pink earth pony just smiled widely and patted Twilight on the shoulder.

"Oh come on you silly filly, me and Dashie here were just having some fun" she said pointing to Rainbow Dash.

"Yeah come on guys lighten up a bit, it's just a few harmless pranks"

Rarity and Applejack frowned when they heard that.

"Harmless my hind quarters" Applejack growled.

"Like the time y'all replaced the good apple from our harvest with rotten apples. We had to have a health inspector pony check every apple before we could sell that year"

"Or the time you replaced my blush with itching powder. I'm still feeling the effects" Rarity said as she scratched at her face.

Pinkie and Dash just shrugged their shoulders and continued to laugh. Twilight smiled a little and shook her head at the scene she had just witnessed. Her horn then glowed brightly and encased Rarity and Applejack with a purple aura and when it faded the two of them were clean as a whistle and back to their old selves. When they noticed this they both smiled and sighed with relief.

"Thank Celestia" they both said together.

"Now if everyone is done messing around we have a slumber party to put on" Twilight said excitedly.

Everypony jumped up and cheered at that and the party began. All the ponies started conversing and laughing and playing as the party continued to roll on. Pinkie and Spike ate every single piece of candy at the refreshment table and by the end they both had extended bellies from all the sweets they ate, but neither of them cared. Rarity and Sweetie Belle were giving each other makeovers and while Rarity did very well with Sweetie Belles the same could not be said for her. Her makeover looked even worse than the orange spots but this time instead of getting angry she just laughed with her little sister and wiped it off. Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo were pillow fighting with Twilight while Fluttershy was wearing a referee jersey and officiating. In the end it was Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo standing tall over Twilight with Fluttershy holding their hooves up in victory.

Finally it had come to the best part of the night in Twilight's opinion. It was time for scary stories. Everyone gathered in a circle around Twilight with each of the crusaders with their sisters.

"Tonight's scary story is one that is sure to curl your manes for sure" she said sounding sinister.

"Is it the one about the headless horse again cuz that one is gettin kinda old" Applejack said. Twilight then lost her spooky demeanor as she thought of another story to tell.

"Ok how about The Hoof" she asked.

"Heard it" Rainbow Dash said dryly.

"Nightmare on Hoof Street" she asked hopefully.

"We stopped screaming at that one three times ago" Rarity said sounding bored.

Twilight stood up from her spot and ran to the bookshelf and started rummaging through trying to find some scary books with stories she hadn't told before. After throwing nearly every book on the floor she finally came to the last book. It was a leather book that looked pretty old. The leather was even starting to peel off of the cover and dust was all over the book. Twilight blew the dust off the book and it created a cloud and she went back to the circle. Everyone in the circle looked at the book curiously.

"Well that there sure looks strange" Applejack pointed out. Twilight couldn't help but nod.

"Yeah it does, hey Spike when did we get this?" she asked show the book to Spike who shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't know half the books in here are older than I am" he said.

Twilight looked back at the book and slowly opened the front cover. The spine crackled a little showing that it was indeed old. Upon opening the covering she noticed that the paper was stained yellow from years of being on the shelf. At the bottom of the page there were words written in red.

Everyone looked at each other not knowing what to think. They had never before heard of a pony with that name, in fact that seemed like a pretty weird story for a pony to begin with. Nonetheless, Twilight turned the page and noticed what looked like newer looking pages that all had red writing on them. As she looked them over she noticed that this was indeed a book of scary stories. Though sort of weirded out she decided that she would read a story or two from this book, after all they were just stories.

"Ok guys how about a story from this book" she said smiling.

Rarity was the first to speak out against it.

"I'm not sure darling this seems rather creepy to me"

"Oh come on Rares your not scared are you" Rainbow Dash teased. Rarity looked at her and glared.

"I am not scared, I am merely looking after poor Sweetie Belle here" she said putting a hoof around her sister who pushed her off.

"I'm not scared of anything, the spookier the better" she said confidently.

"That's Cutie Mark Crusaders don't fear nothin" Applebloom agreed.

"Yeah go on Twilight" Scootaloo encouraged.

Twilight smiled at the three and then started reading. The story that she was reading was called The Big Toe. A truly terrifying tale about a young boy that found a toe sticking out of the ground in his garden and pulled it out. the boy then brought the toe to his parents and the mother cleaned it, cut it up, and put it in the stew that they would eat. This made everyone especially Rarity gag. As the story continued, everyone started to get more scared, Fluttershy most of all a she found herself under a blanket shaking. The story continues with the boy sleeping in his room at night and then suddenly hearing a voice of a corpse looking for the toe. The corpse makes it's way through the house looking for it's toe until eventually making it's way to the boys room. The story ends with the corpse standing at the boys bed before the corpse tells the boy "YOU'VE GOT IT"and the fate of the boy is unknown.

At this point everypony in the circle, including Twilight, jumped and screamed with fright. Each of the crusaders were clinging to their older sisters with tears in their eyes as they shook in fear. Fluttershy was still hiding under a blanket and trembling. Rainbow Dash was on the ceiling holding onto a support beam for dear life. The only one who wasn't shaking or screaming was Pinkie.

Wait where was Pinkie?

Everypony looked at each other with worry and fright at the fact that Pinkie was no longer with them. All of a sudden a loud clap of thunder shook the room and everyone in it and they all screamed again. They all huddled up together and held each other for dear life. Then, all of a sudden, they heard what sounded like footsteps stomping on the floor, and then...

"Where is my toe?"

Everyone held each other even tighter and quaked with fear. The three little fillies were crying and now even their older sisters were crying. They all held each other tighter as the voice came again even louder.

"Where is my toe?"

Suddenly, a door in the library slowly creaked open. Everyone was so scared of what was about to come out of that closet. Twilight, crying and gasping to breathe grabbed a blanket and threw it over herself and everyone They all just sat there quietly hoping that whatever that thing is won't find them. At that moment, they could hear something coming towards them and again the voice got louder.

"Where is my toe?"

Whatever this thing was it was getting closer and closer to where they were hiding. Inch by inch they could here a hard stomp as the thing edged closer and closer and then...stopped.

"WHERE IS MY TOE?" it yelled.

Everyone froze and the air was deathly quiet. Not a sound could be heard not even a pin drop. The only thing that could be heard was the frantic beating of a few terrified hearts.

"YOU'VE GOT IT"

The blanket was ripped off and everypony screamed and ran for their lives, only to have the lights suddenly turn on and the sound of laughter was heard. Everypony stopped and turned around to see Pinkie Pie with two heavy looking books strapped to the hooves on her hind legs and she was laughing. She had been the one that scared them, she had been the one that nearly caused them all to fall over dead from fright. Once she had finally finished laughing she looked at her other friends and their little sisters who all had a look of pure anger plastered onto their muzzles. Pinkie merely giggled nervously and then ran off, quickly being followed by the others.

Nopony was around to see a dark mass lifting up off of the old book and make it's way out the window.
