Cloudsdale Medical Clinic
Room #57
Bright light filtered through the blinds, illuminating the entire room. Rays of light floated every which way, some cascading off of the polished instruments and trays. Others streaked across the room to land on the single hospital bed that was centered along the far wall. Limona lay on the bed cradling a tiny colt in her arms. He was napping, his fiery mane contrasting against his mother’s dark green fur.
The colt stirred, a slight change to his breathing. His brow furrowed as he clung tighter to his mother. A quiet moan escaped his mouth as he partially opened his eyes. “Sleep, my little BlazeRun”, Limona crooned. “You need your rest so you can grow up to be a big and strong Pegasus someday.” She gazed at him lovingly, gently rocking the little colt back and forth. Little BlazeRun’s eyes slowly drifted shut once more, and he snuggled tightly against Limona. Limona gently stroked the little blue colt’s ear, further lolling him into a light slumber.
As she continued to soothe her son, her husband Thunder Wing entered the hospital room with one of the doctors. Thunder Wing had a troubled expression on his face as he trotted further into the room. He cast an affectionate look onto his newborn son, and then turned to his wife. Picking up the anxiety of her spouse, Limona sat up on the bed. “What’s wrong?” she asked with a concerned expression on her face.
Moving the short distance to the bed, Thunder Wing stared at the little sleeping colt sprawled out on Limona’s belly. His eyes still fixed on the newborn, he replied in a quiet tone. “I just finished speaking with General Loudhoof. Apparently, our squadron is needed to reinforce the main army. It seems the Gryphons are pushing harder than we anticipated. The General has ordered that all reserve squadrons be commissioned at once to assist in repelling them.”
Limona’s confused expression quickly turned fearful. “Every squadron? Surely they won’t send our squadrons in. We have a newborn colt to look after!”
“He explicitly said ‘No exceptions’.” Thunder Wing’s expression displayed the anger he felt. Of all times….I can’t believe this! He stamped a hoof. This isn’t right. We can’t leave our son like this! But, orders are orders, aren’t they? His wife’s next question snapped him out of his thoughts. Limona leaned forward. “If we deploy, who will take care of BlazeRun? W-what if we don’t come back? What will happen to him?”
The doctor, who had been checking the various instruments around the room, cleared his throat and spoke up. “We will take care of him in our daycare until you get back, miss. I promise we will care for him to the best of our abilities. He will be like one of our own children.” The doctor punctuated his last statement with an affirmative nod.
Limona looked down to where BlazeRun was still sleeping and held him close. “Oh, BlazeRun. We just met and already your father and I have to leave you.” She rubbed his nose with her hoof. “Don’t worry, little one. The clinic daycare will take very good care of you. We will be back as soon as we can. I promise.” She gave the sleeping colt a peck on the cheek.
Thunder Wing gazed down at his son, a loving expression on his face. “Well, little guy. I guess it’s good bye for now. But I will do everything I can to make sure that we get back to you. See you soon, kiddo.” He leaned down and nuzzled his newborn child. Limona gazed at her newborn son for what seemed like an eternity, and then hesitantly handed little BlazeRun to the doctor. Both parents cast longing glances towards their son, and then together, they left to join their squadrons and the fight to defend Equestria.
