Sunset Shimmer Vs. The Evil Eye
"MUA HAHAHAHA!" Sunset Shimmer laughed as she shoved Fluttershy into her locker. "MUA HA HA HA HA HA!"
"Sunset?" Snails asked, breaking Sunset out of her villainous joy. Sunset angrily jerked her head toward Snails.
"You buffoon!" Sunset yelled. Snails flinched. "You know you're not supposed to disrupt my villainous laughter!"
"Sorry boss," Snails said uneasily. "There's a new student at school. I thought you'd like to know."
"New meat," Sunset said evilly, tapping her chin with her finger. "Well, it would be rude for me not to introduce myself." She grabbed Snails by his shirt. "Where is he!?"
"Main office," Snails said meekly. Sunset released Snips and strutted down the hall. She noticed the fear on everybody's faces and drank it up like nectar. She would make sure the next student would be giving her those looks.
"There's your schedule Mr. Goldfarb," Principal Celestia said kindly. "Is there anything else you need?"
"No," Efram said to the principal in a nasally tone. "May I go to class now?"
"Of course," Principal Celestia said. "If you have any questions, please let me know."
"Thank you ma'am," Efram said kindly. He was about to walk out of the office and when he came face to face with some smiling, pink-skinned girl.
"Bah!" Efram said, startled. "I didn't, uh, s-see you there." Efram said nervously.
"My name is Pinkie Pie and my favorite things are parties and making new friends," Pinkie Pie said cheerfully. "What's yours?"
"Efram Goldfarb," Efram said with confusion. To his shock, Pinkie Pie put a small chocolate cake in his hands.
"How did you bake this when I just got here?" Efram asked.
"With an oven." Pinkie Pie said simply. Despite his confusion, Efram was touched by this gesture.
"Thank you," Efram said with an honest smile and warm gratitude. He then eyed the cake suspiciously. "By the way, is there any gelatin in this cake?"
"Why?"
"Gelatin isn't kosher." Pinkie Pie looked at him oddly, tilting her head.
"I've never heard of 'kosher' before," Pinkie Pie said, tapping her chin.
"Excuse me?"
"Is kosher some kind of fruit?" Pinkie Pie asked. "Is like a berry, or a citrus, or a kumquat, or-"
"I think you two should get to class," Principal Celestia said, interrupting Pinkie Pie's rambling.
"OK," Pinkie Pie said cheerfully. "See you around new friend," Pinkie said, skipping out of the room like a flower girl at a wedding. Efrem gave a wry glance at Princess Celestia.
"Is she...always like this?" Efrem asked Principal Celestia.
"Yes," Principal Celestia said with tiredness in her voice. She then gave Efrem a genuine smile. "But she is a really good friend once you get to know her."
"I feel like my mind might go before I reach that point," Efrem snarked as he walked out of the room. "That girl is meschugena."
Sunset approached the main office and saw an oddly dressed student walk out holding a chocolate cake.
"Excuse me," Sunset said to the person walking out.
"Yes?" the person said. Sunset looked at the person, and struggled not to laugh. The kid looked like some kind of nerdy Amish. He wore glasses, a black fedora, a black coat over a white dress shirt, black trousers. He had a growing brown beard, blue-grey skin, and had large sideburns that were braided. His nose was bigger then most students as well.
"Are you the new student?" Sunset asked the kid.
"Yes I am. Efrem Goldfarb," Efrem said, tipping his fedora. "What's your name?"
"Sunset Shimmer," Sunset said, forcing a kind smile onto her face. "Welcome to CHS! I...love meeting new people."
"Are you gonna bake me a cake?" Efram asked in a serious tone. Sunset rolled her eyes and let a genuinely amused grin form on her face.
"Let me guess? Pinkie Pie?" Sunset asked Efrem. The bespectacled kid nodded. "Yeah, she can be...a handful. Anyways...there's this party Friday night," Sunset said her eyes darting left and right. "I would've love for you to come."
"Sorry," Efrem said with a shrug of his shoulders. "Can't." Sunset glared at the student.
"Why not?" Sunset said, sounding more angry then dismayed.
"Well," Efrem said, confused by Sunset's sudden anger. "Friday night is the Sabbath."
"The what?"
"The Sabbath. The day when one doesn't work or party," Efrem said simply. Sunset let out annoyed sigh.
"Don't worry," Sunset with an obviously strained smile, "there's a...follow up party on Saturday night. Can you make it then?"
"That works," Efrem said. Sunset let out a happy grin.
"You have no idea how happy that...makes me," Sunset said with cheer. "See you then," the fire-haired said, turning around and walking away. As soon as she turned away, she let an evil grin form on her face.
"That weird Amish-kid will learn his place once and for all," Sunset said vindictively while rubbing her hands. "MUA HA HA HA HA HA HA!"
Efrem looked at the girl who was cackling like a madwoman with bemusement.
"She must've heard a really funny joke," Efrem snarked. With nothing better to do, he turned around and walked to his next class.
Efrem walked out onto the front lawn of CHS. The sun was going down, which meant that the day of rest was over. He looked at the empty lawn with utter confusion. He pulled out the instructions Sunset had written down for him with some frustration.
"Sunset told me party was going to be here," Efrem said. He set his jaw and grit his teeth. "Did that shiksa send me on some...goose chase." Before he could answer that, he heard a squeaking sound. He looked down and saw several sprinkler heads pop out of the ground. His eyes widened in horror.
"Oh, Lord," he muttered, before being soaked by the activation of the sprinklers. He shouted and flinched as the cold water soaked him and his clothes. Efrem stood their, dripping wet and quiet with rage. Unbeknownst to him, Snips and Snails were filming the whole thing with their camera phones, chuckling with amusement.
"Oh, Sunset's gonna love this," Snails said to his friend.
Efrem walked into the school, his eyes cold with fury. His anger only grew as he saw everyone was chuckling at him.
"What's so funny?" Efrem asked a random male student.
"Dude, you were....soaked," the kid said with jest, showing off the video him getting soaked that had been planted online. Efrem's rage erupted. He took the phone from the boy and slammed it onto the floor.
"Dude," the boy said with shock. "Calm-" Efrem then grabbed the boy by his shirt and slammed him against a locker. The crowd that had been laughing at him backed away with fear.
"Where's that little schmendrick?!" Efrem bellowed, his nerdy appearance looking positively furious.
"What?" The boy asked fearfully.
"Sunset Shimmer," Efrem growled.
"Down there," the boy said with alarm, gesturing with his arm down some random hall. Efrem let the kid go, and stormed down the hall. All the students were giving him a wide berth.
Sunset was pulling books out of her locker, when she heard a loud punch near the locker to her right. She turned to see Efrem looking at her with a scowl.
"What's the big idea letting me get soaked!" Efrem yelled. Sunset, rather then be stunned, just gave him an amused grin.
"Hmm," Sunset said. "Let me think. I...thought it would be funny." Efrem's frown deepened.
"You ruin my night and clothes for a good laugh?" Efrem said, his scowl deepening as Sunset continued to looked at him with remorseless amusement. "Apologize!" Sunset looked even more amused.
"Nah," Sunset said mockingly, pretending to look at her nails. "Not gonna happen." A vein formed on Efrem's forehead.
"You better you little schumck or-," Sunset punched the locker, stunning Efrem. He noticed a bunch of students gathering around, watching this little scene. Sunset glared at him with furious contempt.
"Listen here, loser," Sunset said in threatening tone. "I don't know what you just called me, but I think it was something rude. But you're new here, so it is only fair for me to explain few things to you: regardless of what the teachers say, I'm in charge here. I consider myself a nice person, so I'll give you one warning: stay out of my way, and they'll be no problem. Get in my way," she said, her eyes narrowing ,"and you'll get worse then soaked. Got me?" Efrem didn't looked scared, but more annoyed.
"Man, if my mother saw you, she'd slap into the next century," Efrem said with outrage. Without warning, Sunset knocked Efrem's fedora off his head.
"I don't think you heard me," Sunset said with a sinister purr. "Stay. Out. Of. My. Way!" she finished by stomping on the fedora. Efrem's furious face return.
"That's it," Efrem shouted. "You stomp on my hat, you insult my honor. You insult my honor, take this!" Efrem bellowed. Sunset bared her fists, preparing to use force to put Efrem in his place. Instead, Efrem just extended a gaunt arm to point at Sunset.
"Ayin ha'ra, ayin ha'ra, ayin ha'ra," Efrem uttered. Sunset and the crowd, who expected some kind of brawl, looked utterly confused.
"What?" Sunset said.
"Ayin ha'ra. The Evil Eye," Efrem said ominously. "It is a curse that punishes the arrogance." Without saying anything else, Efrem picked up his fedora, turned around, and walked away with a devious grin on his face. Since a fight wasn't going to happen, the crowd shrugged their shoulders and walked away, leaving behind a confused Sunset. As Efrem faded from her view, Sunset felt a triumphant grin form on her face.
"What a wimp," Sunset said with a smile. "He has to scare me with a curse, but there's is no magic in this world," Sunset said with amused arrogance. "In a few days, he'll know his place." Sunset turned around to walk away, but then tripped and fell on her face.
Sunset, her face throbbing, pulled herself up off the floor with a furious grunt.
"That hasn't happened since I came through the portal," Sunset said to herself. "How did that-?" She looked back at the direction Efrem was and felt a chill go down her spine. She then glanced down and saw a textbook on the floor.
"Oh, I just tripped over the textbook," Sunset said to herself, her anxiety fading. "Just a silly mistake. For a second or two, I actually thought there was a curse." Sunset walked away with her usual confidence and arrogance.
