Lyra and Bon Bon had been dating for moons now. The two young mares had been through everything together. Every attack on equestria, every performance, and every adventure, the two had been side by side. Lyra loved this mare with all her heart. She did everything within her power to make sure Bon Bon new how loved she was, and Bon Bon always returned those feelings. The two had a healthy and beautiful relationship. That’s why for the past 8 moons Lyra had been saving up for something special.
Lyra planned to propose to Bon Bon soon. With all that had been happening in equestria she didn’t want to wait a moment longer. She gathered up every bit she could and had collected over 30,000 bits so she could get the perfect ring, a mint green and navy-blue diamond. It looked like the two colors were swirling together and intertwining. Lyra had been eyeing it up for so long that the shopkeeper agreed to hold it until Lyra could pay for it. Today was finally that day.
Lyra walked into the jewelry store with her saddle bag full of bits and grinning brightly as she moved over to the front desk where a the young shopkeeper with a white coat, well kept brown mane, and tail.
“Hi Lyra” the shopkeeper said grinning from ear to ear. “Is today the day?”
Lyra nodded nervously. “Yeah. I honestly still can’t believe I’m doing this.” She said with a nervous laugh.
“You’ll be fine Lyra.” The shopkeeper said as he pulled out the ring using his magic. He put it into a purple box decorated with little flowers.
Lyra took two large bags of bits from her either side of her saddle bag and the two exchanged items. Lyra opened the ring box and smiled, her eyes watering up a little. “Thank you.”
“No problem. Now go get that mare.”
Lyra nodded and put the ring box into her saddle bag. She hugged the shopkeeper and then left the shop.
The mare quickly ran across town almost bumping into a few ponies and ran into the house to hide the ring. She threw open the door with her magic and shrieked as she almost ran straight into Bon Bon.
“Wow, wow! Hold your horses Lyra! Why are you running?” Bon Bon asked.
Lyra stood wide eyed for a moment in shock. Bon Bon had come home early from work and now she didn’t know what to do. She had expected to have an hour to hide the ring and set up the house for her arrival.
“Lyra?” Bon Bon pressed, confused by the shocked mare in front of her. “I thought you would like having me come home early?” She teased.
“N-no! I do but you just never do this…” Lyra said finally somewhat recovering from the shock.
“Got to mix things up every once and a while.” She laughed. “Now let’s go out for a bit! No sense in being cooped up on such a lovely day.”
Lyra had no time to remove her saddle bag let alone protest to Bon Bon who was almost pushing the mare out of the house.
A few minutes passed and the mares where well on their way to town square. Bon Bon walked just a few feet ahead of the still shocked and confused Lyra. Lyra could tell Bon Bon was saying something about how her workday went but she couldn’t focus. All Lyra could hear was the sound of her heart beating in her ears.
'What am I going to do now?' Lyra thought to herself.
Lyra shook her head and started trying to listen to what Bon Bon had said.
“So, then Miss. Cake came in with Mr. Cake and the twins. They bought my hole stock of twists because the twins weren’t accepting any less. It was crazy!” Bon Bon said with a chuckle.
Lyra responded with a quick and confused “yeah.”
“Alright.” Bon Bon said suddenly turning around causing Lyra to almost walk into her. “What’s wrong? You’ve been acting off since you got back and realized I was home. Did I upset you?”
“No! No… I just had… plans?” Lyra said trying to reassure Bon Bon but failing.
“Oh…” Bon Bon said.
Lyra looked around noticing a few people looking at the two mares. Bon Bon herself looking down at the ground unsure of what to do and feeling like she’s inconveniencing her marefriend.
Lyra was starting to panic and didn’t know what to do. “I didn’t mean it like that Bonnie. I-I just mean… I had plans to surprise you and take you out when I got home, and I just got flustered.”
Bon Bon looked up at Lyra with a blush. “Oops." She giggled "Well we can still do your plans!”
Lyra then decided she couldn’t wait. Here was as good a place as any. “We don’t need to. Really all my plans needed was for me to be with you.” Lyra said kissing Bon Bon cheek. “I love you Bonnie.”
Bon Bon turned beat red and giggled “L-lyra! What is with you?”
Lyra smiled and removed her saddle bag placing it on the ground beside them. “I finally realized what I want.”
Bon Bon was so flustered she couldn’t even reply.
Lyra teleported the ring box into her hooves and opened it as she got down to propose. “Bon Bon. Will you marry me?”
Bon Bon began crying and jumped on Lyra “You-you-you… Yes.” She said sobbing years of joy.
The two mares embraced each other as they both cried tears of happiness. The two even managed not to notice the crowd of smiling ponies around them.
"Do I get to come to the wedding?" Derpy says as she falls almost on top of the two mares breaking them out of their little world.
Lyra and Bon Bon looked at Derpy and then back at each other and laughed. Derpy just stared in confusion.
"Of course Derpy" Bon Bon said as Lyra wiped the tears from her eyes.
