Two Orders Of Wonder With A Side Of Unknown
I'll have a 2 number 9's
Load Full StoryI stood outside, the front entrance of Denny’s while waiting for my friend to arrive.
I checked my phone. There was no new messages.
I started to fear he wasn’t coming.
But then I finally saw, his Subaru-Cross-Trek pull up. A smile made its way on to my face. Then he proceeded to find a parking space across the way. He then got out of his car. He started to try and spot me in the parking lot. I decided to get his attention.
“HARRISON! SONNY BOY!” He instantly snapped his head in my direction.
Upon seeing me, his face lit up.
I began to walk toward him, with long-happy strides.
By the time I got there to where he was standing, He had already met me half way.
“How have you doing? It has been since High-school, since we last talked in person,” I greeted happily.
“Yeah! It has been,” He replied beaming.
“Now, are you ready to get some good ‘ole food?” I ask wiggling my eye brows.
He, simply smiled, and nodded. We both proceeded to walk together, into the fine establishment.
The desk clerk, greeted us. “Two for lunch?” she asked. We both nodded.
She, led us to our both. We sat down with our menus in our hands. We started to talk, and catch up with one another.
“So! How’s life?” I asked.
“Oh! It’s been great!” replied Harrison happily.
“So-,” We talked for a bit while we waited for our waiter to appear.
We, were so caught up in our conversation we didn’t notice, our waiter, well waiting...
A polite cough, got our attention.
“Oh, sorry!” I apologized. The, waiter held up a hand.
“No-no! That, is quite alright.,” He assured.
I then proceed to clear my throat.
Before I could answer, the waiter asked us a question.
“Would, you fine lads, be interested in our special for the day?” He said never opening his eyes.
Harrison looked at me, curiously. I looked back at him. Both nodding, I decide to ask what he meant.
“And, that would be...?” I said curiously with a bit of caution. He then replied
“Why, the Dish Wonder, of course!” He smiled. Never opening his eyes.
“And, what would that include as a side dish?” Harrison asked oblivious.
I swear I could see the waiter’s smile get bigger, at that having been asked.
“Why, a side of unknown!” He said happily.
Harrison, being Harrison said-
“I’ll take it!” At this being said, the waiter smile grew to impossible lengths.
“And, you?” the waiter, said turning his head to me.
“...Well, I guess the same thing really...” I said not paying attention.
The waiter, then opened his eyes. I immediately noticed that they weren't any human colored eyes.
“Good, choice. I knew you were the right ones.” He said in a cryptically tone.
Before Harrison, and me had any idea what he meant, he snapped his fingers. In a sudden flash of light, we were gone. The waiter laughing, caught the attention of the manager, who then proceeded to yell at our waiter.
“Hey! Get back to work! You’re distracting the customers!” The waiter in question replies quickly
“Yes sir!” saluting, the waiter then proceeds to clean the table with a rag, with mischievous vigor. Still grinning.
“Oh, yes. This will be fun...” He whispers to himself.
“Fun indeed...” He whispers softer to himself this time.
All I could see was flashing lights. I wasn't screaming, just confused. I did not see Harrison in the vivid, colored worm-hole.
In this vortex of bright colors, and it seemed to go on for forever. Then all of a sudden as if a switch had been turned on; I could suddenly see the end. It was in fact-not warped in colors, but stable colors with a blinding white light toward end.
Before I could register what was going on, I was plopped out of the swirling vortex, landing on the ground with my butt.
"Ow." I managed to grunt out.
Dazed, and not really paying attention, until a series of gasps, broke me out of my trance.
Looking up from where the gasps came from, my eyes were immediately assaulted by every color of the rainbow. It, took me a couple of seconds for my eyes to adjust. There standing around me, were people who looked like anthropomorphic horses, who’s expressions on their muzzles ranged from curious, suspicious, shocked, and amazed.
I then remembered Harrison. In panic, I stood up quickly. They reacted by taking several steps from me. I scanned the sea of colors for Harrison. When I suddenly heard incoherent rambling from down below me, I snapped my head down-ward. There he was. Harrison was inspecting some dirt. Upon the dirt, was a bug. In, my disbelief but also with relief I said
“Harrison! There, you are! I thought I lost you in the sea of colors...Also why are you looking at dirt?” I questioned.
I caught a glimpse in his eye.
“Harrison. Don’t you think about eating that poor bug.” I said sternly.
He then, preceded to blow the bug away, with a puff of his breath.
While I was distracted by Harrison antics, I didn’t seem to notice the person behind me.
“Huh-hum!” She said, trying to get our attention.
I whirled around, to face the new cumber. Harrison just had to crane his neck in her direction from his place on the ground. They standing behind me was, a 5.6 tall anthropomorphic, Lavender Equine. Dressed in purple blue jeans, and a purple t-shirt.
“Good-Morning! I’m Twilight Sparkle-Princess of Friendship!” She said happily.
“Uh...,” I looked from her-back to Harrison. Who just shrugged his shoulders and went right back to staring at dirt. (with the bugs on it)
“Well, I’m William, and this is Harrison. And we have no idea where we are,” I answered finally.
She seemed to think for a second, while looking like she was in a deep state of thought. She finally snapped out of it with a shake of her head.
“I’ve, got some question for you guys. And, if you don’t mind, I’d like you guys to come to my castle.,” She said in matter of fact manner.
Harrison looked at me, from his place on the ground. He shrugged. I did the same.
“Sure.” I said coolly.
She seemed to seemed to accept this, and gestured for us to follow. By this time, the crowed had dissipated quite heavily, to the point where there was a path leading straight out of the market place (Or what I assumed was a market place would look like)
A small trip through town later, and we stood at the steps of a giant crystal blue castle. In, our amazement; we failed to see, she already had made her way atop crystal steps, and was waiting on us.
A small cough, got our attention.
“You, going to come in, or are you going to stare all day?” she said with a giggle.
This broke us out of our trance, with embarrassed laugh we ascended the flight of stairs. When we got to the top, she pushed one of the crystal doors open. Gesturing us to come inside. We proceeded to make our way inside. By the time the door shut behind us, we were in awe. Giant ceilings, and different type tapestries lined the walls (which were also made of crystal) The purple horse-lady known as Twilight Sparkle then proceeded to lead the way farther into the castle. She then stopped at a set of double doors. She opened one of them, and motioned us inside. Which we gracefully did.
Once, we did we got a better look at the room. It, looked like a library. She then motions us to sit down at a table with a bunch of chairs in the middle of the room. I sat down while, Harrison-being to immersed failed to sit down on the chair; missing it completely, and fell bottom first on to the floor.
“Dang-it.” he mumbled to himself. After correcting himself, we turned to Twilight who already sitting. Waiting for us with a note-pad and a pen.
“Alright, now I want to ask you guys a couple of questions...,” She said happily.
