Chapter 1: The Beginning on the Bridge
The Russian birds chirped and the wind blew through the air, and through the hair of a young man. He had brown hair with a part down the middle and a couple bangs popping out in front of him. He had dark, green eyes. Army green eyes. He had a straight and masculine nose, and his lips were pursed as he trudged through the enemy territory. He had face paint on: brown stripes that streaked across towards his nose. A wire ran from his ear to a miniature machine on his chest. He wore a military uniform, olive drab with straps for suspension and a utility belt that contained all the necessary equipment he needed with him. He also wore a backpack, containing all of the needed equipment for his mission. In his elbow-length, finger-less gloves was a trusty Smith and Wesson Mk 42 9mm, also known as the "Hush Puppy." His was modified, however, to fire nonlethal tranquilizer rounds into his enemies, perfect for the op he was in.
This was the soldier known as Naked Snake, or commonly referred to as Snake.
He was approaching a large rope bridge, carefully swaying in the wind. The rickety feel of it scared him a bit, but he didn't care. He couldn't afford to, knowing what the consequences would be if he failed. The man behind him was a reminder of that.
He was an older man, a lot older than himself. He was bald, with the exception of his gray and black hair on the sides of his head. He had a small mustache, and true to his age, he had several wrinkles around his eyes. Attached to his ear was a clip for his monocle. A white dress shirt and a striped yellow tie, he wore a matching pair of corduroy pants and vest, and sported a black trench coat which matched his black dress shoes and gloves.
He, however, was not as brave as the man leading him. He cowered behind him, moaning slightly in fear. The man in front kept his balance, being sure to stay silent. He was bent over slightly, focusing through the sights on his tranq gun. Gripping the sides of the bridge, the second person looked over the rail, gasping at how deep the rushing river was below him.
Suddenly, and without much notice, a fog had started to set in. Through the blur the soldier could see the outline of another person, carrying something in each hand. he stopped, and prepared himself. The scientist stopped as well, not sure what to do. As the figure became clearer, the surprise of the soldier became more evident. he raised his head, not sure if what he was seeing was real or not.
The figure adorned an outfit strikingly similar to his own, complete with suspenders and a utility belt. Even the color of the clothes and the equipment was the same make. They stopped, and when she looked up, Snake was horrified to see that the person in front of him was a woman. She had a straight face with noticeable cheekbones, and blonde hair which was held together by a dark bandanna. Her piercing blue eyes cut into him, and finally he was able to choke out:
"Boss?"
Holding two cases, one larger and the other slimmer, she dropped one, the thud of which boomed through the air and shook the bridge violently. The scientist screamed in surprise and grabbed onto the railing for dear life. She dropped the other one, causing the bridge to suddenly shake again, and this time the scientist fell onto his back, just barely able to keep himself from slipping under the large gaps between the wooden planks and the ropes.
"Good work, Jack."
Aiming down the sights again, he said in a raspier voice, "What are you doing here?"
She looked down, then back again. "Sokolov...comes with me."
A dark and thunderous sky set in, but it wasn't a thunder storm. Low buzzing set in, but grew louder and louder. Then, it erupted, and he saw what was causing the noise and the dark cover.
'What the?' He thought, then saw a couple hornets fly from behind him. Soon a gigantic swarm enveloped him, and he groaned in surprise. He fell down, and used his combat knife to slice at them. "Hornets!?" They surrounded the scientist Sokolov as well, and he yelled. Turning around, Snake saw Sokolov being carried away by an upside down man, who the hornets seemed to be covering as well, into a helicopter. On the ledge, he saw another, fatter man, who was the one controlling the hornets.
Snake stared on in disbelief as the hornets retracted and the helicopter floated higher. The man who was responsible for the pesky insects was wearing a black ski mask, and had a bee-themed combat suit on, multiple yellow grenades strapped to his chest. Another, who kidnapped Sokolov from Snake, stepped forward and who's black and white hair set him out. He had a different camo on, a cheetah pattern. They both looked down at the the other two.
"My friends," the Boss said with a smile. "let us fight together again!"
The kidnapper responded in a silky yet scar voice, "I have waited long for this day."
"We will fight with you once more." The other one said, making a fist.
An impossibly old man looked down, wearing a set of protective ear muffs, rolled his neck and said, "Welcome back, Boss." His eyes bulged out of his sockets.
The woman raised her head. "Now that all five of us are together, it's time we go into the depths of Hell itself."
As if on cue, a couple raindrops fell down, which rapidly turned into a small yet strong rainfall. She raised her arms out, really feeling the rain on her body.
"It's raining blood." She closed her eyes slowly. "Is he crying."
She had a feeling on the back of her neck, and she turned around, but saw one behind her. Looking to the chopper, she could see a bluish, almost ghost-like presence move through the air and into the air vehicle, disappearing as quickly as it came. The rain continued to fall as both Snake's and the Boss' attention was re-centered on the other.
From behind her, another person emerged. He was wearing an olive drab, green trench coat, just barely revealing the red outfit he had on underneath. Sparks of blue electricity ran across his body, and down to the wood of the railing as his hand reached out and just gently ran over it. "Kuwabara, kuwabara..." He muttered in a deep, soldier-like voice.
The rain cleared up, and the sun peeked through again just as he stopped behind the Boss. He had short, blonde hair, but his most noticeable features were the multitude of deep scars that ran across his face and over his mouth and cheeks. "Ah, what a joyful scene."
She looked out of the corner of her eyes, and returned her gaze to the man in front of her. "Colonel Volgin..." She said softly.
He looked around himself with a wave of his hand. "Welcome to my country..." He said, and suddenly reached forward, and made a fist, the rubber squelching under his iron fist. "And to my unit."
She started to step forward to the edge of the bridge. "Boss? What is this?" Snake asked, jerking his head to the man named Volgin.
"I'm defecting to the Soviet Union. Sokolov is a little gift for my new hosts."
Volgin picked up on of the containers the Boss was carrying and held it in front of him, reading its contents. "Recoiless nuclear warheads..." He read off, and hoisted the other one on his shoulder. "These will make a fine gift for me."
Snake nearly stomped his boots out of anger. "This can't be happening!"
"Who is he?" Volgin asked menacingly. "Another one of your disciples?" He looked at the Boss, who turned around. "Are we taking him with us?"
"No, this one is still a child. Too pure for us, Cobras." She said, looking at him with a disgustful eye. "He has not yet found an emotion to carry into battle."
Snake, frustrated with the vague information, readied his gun and knife. "What are you talking about?"
She stepped towards him, spreading her arms as if to say Try me. "Think you can pull the trigger?"
Then, in the blink of an eye, she grabbed his arm and his gun, removing with just a single hand the barrel of the gun, rendering it useless. She shoved him down hard, yet he readied himself quickly, and aimed down the sights. Only to realize that it wasn't there anymore. She casually tossed it to him, and he looked at it. He pushed himself up and charged at her with the knife in hand. She grabbed his hand and made him drop the knife, then, carefully moving his body in front of her, she chopped down on his arm, the crack of his bone breaking filling her ears.
"Ahh!" He yelled, and dropped to his knees. He breathed heavily, looking downwards.
Volgin turned his back towards them. "He's seen my face. I can't let him live." Setting down the nuclear devices, he flung out his arms, electricity now hopping around him erratically. He turned back, and walked to him. "If Khrushchev finds out about this, we're finished." He then revealed the four rifle rounds in each of his hands, in the space of his knuckles similar to the Wolverine. He readied his arms, and put them in front of him as if to fight Snake. "He must die."
"Wait." The Boss said, putting her hand out to stop him. "He's my apprentice. I'll take care of him." Snake grunted and faced his old mentor, who offered a hand. "Jack, you can't come with us."
hesitantly, he grabbed it. She tightened her grip and launched him forward, and jabbed her elbow into his gut. She looked back at his face, and he put his arm on her, a desperate attempt to beat her. The Boss grabbed his collar, and with a mighty heave, tossed him overboard.
He screamed as he fell down, plummeting towards the water. He had grabbed her bandanna, and clenched it tightly in his fist.
Staring up at her, her broken yet angry face, he finally hit the water, a darkness enveloping his vision.
Author's Note
A/N: Alright, first chapter done! I know I'm working on To The Other World as well, but know that that story is my main concern, and that this one is more or less a side project. It won't have a regular upload schedule like TTOW, but I'm glad I have something else for my readers to read. And if you've played MGS 3 before, then you know that this isn't anything new, it's just the bridge scene. However, next chapter is when we start getting to Equestria, and what surprises lay for Snake there. AND yes! The other chapters will be longer than this one. Think of this as the prequel. :)
See you all later everybody! Hex Pony, out!
