You Should Have Seen

Luna made an interesting spectacle as she marched herself along the hallways of the castle to her sister's chambers. She looked like a mare with a mission. And indeed she was.

She had not forgotten her talk with Sunset Shimmer, nor the much needed dose of old fashioned discipline she'd meted out to the guilt ridden unicorn. It had served its purpose, relieving Sunset of not just guilt but also the vast amount of self hatred. There was only one problem with the entire thing.

Celestia was the one who should have done it, not Luna.

The princess of the night lifted her head a little higher and looked a bit sterner as she continued her journey to Celestia's room. Her sister was in for an unpleasant time. She should have seen very clearly what Sunset needed and delivered it herself...rather than letting her off with mere hugs and words of pardon.

No. Celestia had epically failed in her duty to Sunset, and Luna fully intended to make sure she was brought to justice for it. She arrived at her destination and rapped loudly with a hoof, to ensure Celestia heard it clearly.

"Enter!"

Luna threw open the door and made her way into the room, using her magic to shut the door again...using enough force to consider it a slam.

"Oh, Luna!" Celestia greeted cheerfully, barely looking up from a document she was reading. "What a pleasant surprise!"

"Sister, where is your mane brush?"

The random question made Celestia look up and arch an eyebrow quizzically.

"Its...over on my dresser there, where it always is. Why? Did you lose yours again?" She chuckled.

"On the contrary, Sister, I did not. I simply require yours for the present. Also would you grant a request and go lay on your bed, please? I believe that will be the more logical option compared to placing you over my knee."

"Hm? Oh, of course, Sister." Celestia responded, slightly distracted.

Then it registered.

"Wait, what??" She burst out, dropping the document and gaping at Luna, who by now had her sister's mane brush firmly held in her magic. "Luna, what in Equestria are you saying??"

"I believe I am quite clearly informing you that I am preparing to execute justice to your hindquarters, Sister." Luna was unfazed, and determined.

Celestia stared with her mouth hanging open, shocked.

"You WHAT?!?"

Ignoring the very un-princess-like shriek, Luna met her gaze and calmly explained.

"I had a very informative and neccessary conversation with your former student, Sister, after I quite literally collided with her in the halls of the castle."

"Sunset? What did she do? What happened? Is she alright?"

"Oh, she is quite alright now, I assure you. Twas nothing a journey across my lap could not fix."

"I-I do not follow.."

"To put it very plainly, Sunset Shimmer required an old fashioned spanking for her miscreant behaviours. And I provided it." Luna glared at Celestia.

"I...well, if it helped her, then..." Celestia stammered.

"The point, Sister, is that I should not have been the deliverer of such punishment. You should have. You should have clearly seen the guilt and the hatred she carried for herself, and you should have dealt with it."

"But...but I just wanted her to be greeted with love and forgiveness, not punishment!" Celestia protested.

"Very well. Then embrace her, yes, and offer forgiveness, yes. But these things should have been followed with a punishment, Sister, not for the sake of making her repent but for the sake of letting her forgive her own self."

Luna moved nearer, still holding the brush up in the air, and Celestia gulped a little.

"So...so you propose to do what? Yell at me for a while?"

"Did you fail to hear me mere moments ago? I believe I said I was preparing to mete out justice to you."

"...I heard that. I am hoping you are joking."

"I am quite serious. You failed in your duty to Sunset Shimmer, Sister. It is time for your reckoning. So kindly step away from the desk and let us get this over with."

"T-technically, Luna, you can't do this. I am not a foal. And if I was, I am older than you."

"I care not how old you are. I can do this, and I am prepared to do so."

Luna was dead serious, and Celestia grimaced. Part of her knew her sister was right, that she'd failed to see Sunset's needs. But at the same time, she had no desire to admit that to Luna or accept Luna's ludicrous proposal. She was older, for Equestria's sake! She did not have to submit! So, she rose from her desk and did the most sensible thing she could think of.

She made a run for it.

Luna rolled her eyes and ran after her. The few night guards that were on duty blinked in complete and utter confusion and dismay as the mighty Empress of the Sun charged down the hallways and around corners, with her sister close behind her, still holding the brush in the air.

"Celestia, you return this way immediately!" Luna ordered, slightly breathless.

"No!" Celestia responded, turning another corner.

"You will only make this worse on yourself, Sister!"

"Not if you do not catch me!"

"Celestia, halt this senseless resistance and return with me to your chambers immediately!"

"Make me!!"

Celestia sounded way more like a foal running from punishment than a grown princess at this point. Luna huffed and continued chasing her.

"Very well, if you insist!"

She cornered her at last in the throne room, postioning herself so she couldn't run out the doors. Celestia backed slowly towards the throne platform, eyes on Luna, who steadily advanced.

"You are not escaping this." Luna informed her. "T'would be far better for you if you would cease fleeing and surrender."

"I do not surrender." Celestia returned, trying to sound defiant and failing entirely.

"Then I see we shall have to continue the hard way."

With that declaration, Luna pounced on her sister like a cat on its prey, eliciting a startled shriek of protest as she managed to pin her to the floor.

"L-Luna, wait, w-we can talk about this!"

"The time for discussion has ended, Sister. The time of reckoning is now at hoof. Or brush, as this case may be."

"B-but wait, Luna, w-wait! I want to say something!"

Celestia, for all her attempts not to, sounded incredibly nervous. Luna paused, brush raised, and arched an eyebrow at her sister.

"Speak then, or forever keep your silence."

"D-don't do this h-here, Luna...the guards..."

In reality, Celestia was stalling, trying desperately to gain enough time to come up with an escape plan. Luna was intelligent, and was well aware of this because the throne room doors were shut and there were no guards in the room with them. She however did not argue.

"Very well."

She let her sister go, and motioned to the doors with the brush. Celestia took that as she was to go first and did so, preceeding Luna from the room and towards her chambers, all the while attempting to come up with a reasonable argument for why this was unnecessary.

By the time they got to her chamber, the elder sister was confident the argument she had worked through would satisfy the younger, and put it to the test.

"You know, Luna. You are absolutely correct in saying that I should have seen what Sunset needed and provided it. I believe we can consider this a lesson learned. And there might be a friendship lesson in it as well. Why, I'll even write a report to...myself! 'Dear Princess Me, Today I learned I should pay attention to what my former student needs! Signed...um, myself!' There!"

She was babbling nonsensically and she knew it as soon as it left her mouth. The look on Luna's face was one of complete unamusement.

"You cannot write a friendship report to yourself, Sister. And you are only stalling." Luna shut the door with a hoof and looked at Celestia.

"What...me...stalling...? Why would I...I mean, would I do that?" Celestia stammered, backing away from her again.

"You are aware you resemble a foal at this moment and not a grown mare?" Luna asked, eyebrow arching.

"I..."

Celestia actually had no argument for that. Luna was correct on all points. She swallowed hard and threw defiance out the window in favour of a new tactic.

"Luna, please...please, we can talk about this...please don't do this...you do not have to do this...I understand perfectly where I failed."

"Good, then I have no need to remind you and as such can avoid the lecturing and proceed directly to the punishment."

Luna was not relenting, that much was obvious. And Celestia was out of options. Running would yield nothing but capture. Pleading would yield nothing save ignoring said pleas. Arguing or fighting would yield nothing either. Any way she looked at this, she would end up at the same place. She now had only one sensible option: give in and just accept it.

She sighed heavily. "Very well, Luna...I will surrender."

So saying, she walked across her room and placed herself in position over the bed, shutting her eyes. Luna blinked, having expected further resistance. She shook it off and walked to where her sister waited, postioning herself behind her and just to her left, reaching to brush the other's tail out of the way with a hoof.

Celestia nearly jumped at the touch, barely able to will herself to stay still. Luna lifted the brush a bit higher and lowered it against its intended target with a fair amount of force.

Smack

Celestia let out a startled squeak and bolted upright, not having expected it to hurt quite to that extent. Luna sighed.

"Sister..." her tone held a note of sympathy, but also warning.

"But-but that hurt!" Celestia protested.

"As it is supposed to do."

Celestia sighed herself and shuffled a hoof on the floor...more resembling a foal about to be punished for some miscreancy that had occurred. Luna rubbed her muzzle, and decided to be merciful, just to get this entire thing over with.

She took a seat on the bed, and her sister let out another squeak as she found herself draped over the other's lap, Luna's foreleg wrapped securely around her to prevent escape.

"L-Luna..."

"You may now struggle all you wish, sister, if it assists you with dealing with the pain."

"But-"

Luna cut her off with a resounding smack of the brush. Celestia jumped, and bit back a yelp. Well, if she was going to accept this, may as well do so quietly.

Smack Smack Smack

Celestia squirmed a bit, as Luna was not really holding back. She was only holding back enough to prevent serious harm. The elder tried to think of the last time she's suffered such a punishment, yet failed to recall it.

Smack Smack Smack Smack

"Ow!" Celestia yelped at the last one. "I believe you can stop now!"

She squirmed in an effort to escape, but unfortunately for her, Luna's hold was too secure. She wasn't going anywhere, at least not until Luna said so.

"Really? And pray tell me, Sister...how do you feel knowing you failed to give Sunset what she needed?" Luna asked, punctuating her query with another smack.

"Hnngff!" Celestia grunted.

She pondered the question. If she was honest, she had to admit she felt guilty for failing her former student in this regard. Luna was right. She should have seen what was needed and acted accordingly. She really had been in the wrong.

Smack Smack

"Ow!"

"The question, Sister." Luna spoke calmly.

"I-I feel badly about it." Celestia admitted. "I mean, she had to have felt really severely guilty to have submitted to punishment..."

"In other words, you feel guilty." Luna nodded in satisfaction. "That is all I was after."

Smack Smack Smack Smack

"Ow...ouch...ow!" Celestia yelped, struggling harder.

Had Luna increased her force?? This was hurting far more now! Her efforts to escape were getting her nowhere...Luna's grip was too strong. She attempted, in a manner like that of a foal, to protect herself with her tail, but all that accomplished was causing Luna to roll her her eyes and use another line of magic to move it aside and hold it there.

Smack Smack Smack

Celestia was stubborn...but not so stubborn as to try to pretend she wasn't in pain. She yelped and resorted to tearful pleading.

"L-Luna, I'm...ow...I'm sorry...you can stop now...ow...I'm s...ow! Luna, I'm sorry!"

Luna could hear the tears in her voice, as well as how it kept trying to crack, and she knew Celestia wasn't too far from her breaking point. As hard as it was on them both, she powered through.

Smack Smack Smack SMACK SMACK

The last two were harder than the rest, and Celestia broke almost instantly, dissolving into sobs and slowly stopping her struggling. Luna breathed a sigh of relief, as she honestly hadn't been sure how long she could keep up her task. There was still one thing left to do, and it was not the easiest, but it would drive the point home clearly.

She lowered her aim slightly, and smacked the brush against her sister's more sensitive sit spots, where she'd cerstainly feel it for a while when she sat down.

SMACK SMACK SMACK SMACK SMACK SMACK!

Celestia didn't resist these, yelping once, before going back to sobbing broken apologies as she lay limply across Luna's lap. Luna dropped the brush and gathered her up in a hug, soothing her. It took some time before Celestia pulled back and dried her eyes.

"That was unpleasant..." she grumbled.

"It would hardly be punishment if it were enjoyable, now would it?" Luna stated, shaking her head.

Celestia's mouth twisted into a smirk and she calmly retorted,"Perhaps not. But I happen to prefer the enjoyable ones."

"...that aside, do you think you can pay attention to the needs around you from this moment on?"

"Yes. I do. I can. I will."

"Then my work here is complete." Luna headed towards the door. "I still have night duties to take care of."

"Luna?"

"Yes?"

"We never speak of this to anypony. Ever."

"Noted. Goodnight, Sister."

"Goodnight, Luna."

Luna left the room, and Celestia went to bed, soon lulled to sleep by the beams of her sister's moon playing through the window.
