“So if one is supposed to not lie to one’s friends but conversely I should not tell Fluttershy Rainbow is scared to ask her out and that she should make the first step” — Twilight carefully stepped out of the shower — “then that poses a paradox.”

Musing on the dilemma, she blindly reached for a towel.

“Consequ—” Twilight shrieked when she was instead of silken smooth cotton, greeted with cold tiles. And yet, it was not the cold that made Twilight’s heart crumble and the remains sink. It was a terrifying realization:

She was bare naked! In someone else’s bathroom!

That it was her girlfriend’s bath didn’t matter. They never had gone any further than holding hands and booping noses. Giving Sunset the wrong signs could make their love rise to steep — and make it fall even steeper. A thought that made Twilight shudder.

There needed to be a solution to the problem not involving Sunset seeing her naked. After realizing that without her phone — which was idly sleeping on her commode — her best option would be to grow a dress out of mold and hair dandruff, she resigned.

“Sunset?”

The sound of her voice slunk through the foggy bathroom to the door — the hasty messenger ran scorching.
At that wooden border, it was forced to leave most of its volume as customs, but continued its journey nonetheless — a humble merchant carrying a scroll of whisper.
Looking at the broken tone, most would’ve found pity and ignorance, even amusement at lost syllables and silent letters.
But Sunset’s ears weren’t most. The forgotten resonance was greeted as if being the sweetest of harmonies. Celebrations were held beyond belief: Wrinkles were chiseled; lips, decorated in the loveliest of reds, hung up; and eyes illuminated with a fiery dim of love.

A messenger was sent in return:

“Yes?”

“Have you seen the towels? There aren’t any on the holder.”

“Have you looked in—” The embarrassed creaking of a wooden door being opened and carefully scrutinized, interrupted her.

“Neither in the drawer!”— the inspection’s result.

Sunset smiled.

“Let me get one for you,” she chirped before putting her book aside and lifting the blanket.

“Two please!”

“Now calm down, there.” Sunset chuckled. “I am not your maid.”

Despite not being able to see her, Sunset could tell Twilight was painted in red. “I d-din’t mean it like th-that!” the girl blurted out.

“I’m just kidding, Twi.” Sunset rolled over, lifted herself up from the bed and playfully blew a kiss to the bathroom. “Two towels coming right up!”

A few steps later, Sunset was gone.

“Th-Thank y… “ uttered Twilight, her voice trailing off as she looked down at her feet — she was standing on the carpet. With wet feet!

“Oh no.” Twilight’s breathing was hit unconscious and replaced by hyperventilating. “Oh no”— breathe in — “oh no” — breathe out — “oh no” — breathe ou— she choked.

Gasping for breath Twilight leaned against the washing basin — only further wetting the cotton meadow. “This is bad,” she said before hesitantly jumping off the carpet to have a better view — immediately jumping on again as she almost slipped.
The rhythm of her jumping between trying to not make a bigger mess and not breaking her neck, was in synchronization with the kitchen clock’s ticking...

“Ahh.” Sunset stretched herself as she walked to the window. Looking out, the stars and moon bathed her face in glistening speckles.

Sunset sighed as her eyes whizzed over the endless sky only to once more show her that there was nothing in the universe she could desire more than who was currently trapped in her bathroom — the brightest Kunzite. Her purple star.
And even though her precious flower didn’t want to show her her bloom, she couldn’t be any happier.

*Beep Beep*

Sunset closed the window and strolled to the microwave. After re-learning that hot things are hot and cooling her hands, Sunset galloped back to the bedroom.

*Click* The door opened.

Twilight would’ve stayed frozen in the air if it hadn’t been for Newton’s dog pulling her legs onto the carpet.
“Here we go” — Sunset yawned — “Miss Sparkles. Two towels warm and toasty.” Sunset balanced them on her head and playfully twirled around the room.

“Oh, you’re a live-safer, Shim. Just put them—”

“Ah, ah, ah. What is my payment?” Sunset smirked knowing she was eliciting the sweet aroma of nervousness and embarrassment.

Nails began dancing on the mirror as Twilight misjudged the tone of Sunset’s comment and made her dance one of desperate measures — a sinful tango.

“How about... you come... in” — Sunset could’ve sworn she heard a trickling purr — “and I show you?”

The door slightly opened and out peeked, a wet-haired Twilight Sparkle — her lashes hesitantly swaying.

Sunset blushed to a degree one might fear she’d fall limp from blood shortage in her legs. “Oh my… Twilight. I didn’t know you were such a P-P-Per—”

“Pervert?” Twilight tittered.

Her jaw slack and knees weak, Sunset grabbed the towels and put them over her left arm. With the other one — as if being on auto-pilot — she tried to push the door open. Only when she was greeted with resistance and a gigglish cough, she awoke from the trance.

“The towels, please,” Twilight said, with a cartoonish amount of emphasis put on her tongue’s movements.

“Ah, my bad.” Sunset scratched her head nervously before handing Twilight the white pieces of fabric.

Sunset readjusted a little and puffed out her chest. “So” — she coughed — “how about you open that door and I help you—” The door was shut.

“Thank you, S-Sunset,” Twilight quickly said before leaning against the door and sliding to the ground — her hands put over her burning face.

Sunset dumfoundedly stared into the air. “I can’t believe I fell for that,” she breathlessly said.

Disappointed and fascinated, the girl was about to head back to bed, when the bathroom door opened. Standing before her was Twilight — one towel on her head, one beneath her shoulders.

“S-Sorry for that,” Twilight said.

Sunset said nothing.

“I-I can understand if y-you’re mad, b-but you can still get a reward if th-that h-helps.” Twilight smiled demurely.

Sunset said nothing.

“S-Sunset?”

Sunset said nothing.

“P-Please.” Twilight’s eyes filled with oceans.

Sunset said nothing — she laughed.

“Oh Twilight,” she said before running up to the confused mess of purple and embracing it, “you gotta stop being so serious all the time. Otherwise, I can’t make jokes without fearing you die of a heart attack.”

“You’re the worst,” cackled Twilight before wiping her tears away with her girlfriend’s magenta pajama.

“And what kind of reward does the worst get?”

“How about you decide yourself,” said Twilight hoping her girlfriend would understand her feelings and not rush things.

“Great. I’ve actually already prepared something I wanted to do. Just get dressed and then we can start.”

Twilight — as surprised and proud as she was — didn’t move an inch.

“Hellooooo? Anybody there?”

“O-Oh yeah. Sorry for that.”

“Seriously Twi” — Sunset got to her wardrobe and pulled out a pallid-jaune pajama with heart-pattern — “stop apologizing for everything.”

“B-But I—” Sunset threw the clothing into Twilight’s arms.

“That should suffice. Now get going. It’s late already.”

Twilight went back into the bathroom and stripped the towels off as fast as she had put them on — the afterward put on attire was much less revealing, and with that, more comfortable.

“So, Shim. What’s this all about?”

“Here” — Sunset shoved a book cover into her face — “read this.” Sunset closed her eyes.

“The Dos and Don’ts in relationships with introverts?” The pages flattered a little before the paper bird fell to the ground.

“Ehehe. Not that one.” Sunset looked under her site of the bed and retrieved another book — much thinner and heavily dented. “This one!”

“I am supposed to... read you a good night story? Aren’t you a bit old for that?”

“Perhaps” — Sunset twirled her fingers — “but it helps me sleep better.”

“I don’t know.”

“Oh come on, Twi. Your voice is so soothing.”

“Hmmmm.”

“Pleasssse. Pretty please.” Sunset’s puppy eyes — despite looking more tired than pleading — had the desired effect.

“Okay, okay.” Twilight laughed and looked at the cover. “The Queen’s Maid it is, then.”

The Queen’s Maid
[author unknown]

It once was a maid, who lived in lands far and wide.
No soul around, she was nature’s bride.
Jumping astray and flocking flowers.
She laughed her pain away, saved herself from tearful showers.

But one day there was, and that with much surprise.
Another voice filling all the skies.
A princess had gotten lost.
With the maid’s heart as cost.

A queen in lands like thee?
What brings thou here; what brings me glee?

No queen dear maid.
The kingdom’s lonely shade.

A shade I can’t believe.
It must be talking grief.

The princess cried the stars from sky.
The moon alone, the moon up high.

Don’t be sad madame.
You’rst queen of my heart’s fewst gramm.

The truth you don't say.
Your heart’s of gold not clay.

A cottage their destination.
Their love the only ration.
And yet, all problems breached.
Their love nest they had reached.

The princess turned around and spoke
...

“Wh-What did she say.” Sunset was biting her nails.

Twilight said nothing.

“Twilight?”

Twilight said nothing.

“Come on, now. What did she say?”

Twilight said nothing.

“You’re a jerk, you know that? A cute jerk nevertheless. But still a jerk.”

Twilight said nothing — she smiled.

Suddenly, she turned around.

“I love you.”

Their lips were locked in silence. And so was Sunset’s story as she had finally found a fitting end.

“I love you too.”
