Chapter one.

Not everything happens
As one wants it.
But we all have to accept that.

My face still hurt from the kick that one woman gave me. I thought she was using some kind of, I don't know, invisible fan, to make her, clearly dyed, hair flow like that. I should have known better. I raised a hoof to my face and rubbed it. Wait. Hoof? And it was black, and full of holes. Well that cleared up one of the questions that was running through my mind, which was What am I? The answer? A changeling. Now, I could probably last a few days before I found a steady source of love, which I needed to find, but I noticed something strange. I didn't have wings. All changelings have wings, right? Oh... I appear to have gotten ahead of myself. My name... Well. it was Brandon, but I would have to think of a new one.
I got up and, shakily, walked off in a random direction. I was in some kind of forest. How to get out, well. That could have been a problem if I hadn't been tackled by a fairly tan pegasus I instantly recognized as Daring Do. In the short span of time I had before she opened her eyes, I generated a unicorn pony in my mind and saved it to my memory for later. In the meantime, I had to deal with an adventurous pony.
When she came to, I knew I was screwed. She kicked me in the face so hard I may have lost a tooth or something, maybe cracked my horn, I dunno.
When I woke up I was in some sort of structure, I looked around to see it was mostly made of something that looked similar to bamboo. I turned my head to see Daring sitting next to whatever I was lying on, and scrambled off, right onto the floor, which enticed some giggles from Daring Do herself. I tried to say "What are you laughing at?" but it came out more like "Phat fur fu phaphing phat?", which caused more laughter. I shook my head and tried again.
"What are you laughing at?"
"You, of course."
"Why are you laughing at me?"
"Because you're funny, for a changeling."
I shook my head and took in what her body looked like. Her magenta eyes were ensnaring. Her wings were folded neatly against her side, her hat precariously balanced on a post off to the side. She looked as though she had just taken a shower or bath or something of that sort. Then she notices me looking at her and turns slightly, looks at me, and bats her eyelashes which causes me to burst out in laughter, something I thought a changeling could never do.
After watching her eat something I would never consider a proper breakfast, Daring tells me that I should probably find a changeling hive. I refuse and ask her where the nearest town with a unicorn is. She says Ponyville is about ten miles to the left at the path and that we are in the Everfree Forest. Clearly we are very deep in the Everfree because of the distance.
As I was walking along the path, I thought of a name for myself, and worked on the mental image of a unicorn I had created. I took this time to attempt to disguise myself. The first few attempts nothing really special happened. But with every attempt I got closer and closer to finishing it. By the time I got to Ponyville, the disguise was perfect. But I still needed to speak with a unicorn about basic magic. I thought of an excuse for when they found out I was a changeling.
