Equestria Girls and the Homunculus
I felt the heat consume my body and the student of Carterlot High didn't fare any better. Some air cooler around the school had malfunction, leaving us in this inferno. It was like hell rose up to Equestria. Miss Luna, our substitute teacher for Alchemy class had a better handling of class and the heat. The book was up to her face as she read “The law of equivalent exchange, in order to obtain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed”
Again with this lesson. It gets tiresome to have to sit down and get our head drill with the same stupid lesson. Her eyes explore the world outside the school. Through the window she saw classmate sitting by the old statue. I much prefer being with my friend right about now, but I also wouldn’t mind spending some time with him. Her thoughts were taking over by that boy who made her heartbeat faster and a smile broke her stony face. My life is good right now, but why do I feel so homesick.
The teacher walks next to a careless girl. Luna tap Shimmer head with the book and the students snicker. “Oh, sorry Sunset, are we bothering you?”. The girl stays quiet and just shook her head. “Since you’re not paying attention, I’ll assume you know the material” Luna shut the book and wait it a minute before continuing. Never breaking eye contact. Making me more nervous. “What is a rebound and why does it occur”
“A rebound is a miscalculated transmutation. It happens when the law of equivalent exchange is not meet” Sunset answer without skipping a beat. The teacher seems please but it was hard to tell with her long face. She nods but before she could speak, the bell rings and Sunset quickly got up to leave. On her way out she could hear the teacher telling the students to enjoy the weekend. Walking out of class I stumble with a happy go lucky girl. Her Pink fluffy hair and contagious smile was greatly appreciated.
“Sunny! How is my fiery girl doing?” Pinkie pie said. Her body language was lively and passionate. We both walk down to the cafeteria to join the gang. Along the way I told Pinkie of my embarrassing display. She expresses her sympathetic by pulling a candy bar out of her wild hair. Sunset grab the chocolate bar but it was melted, much to her displeasure.
“Thanks” I said. This simple act meant the world to me. We both talk and laugh without paying attention to where we walk. Coming to a stop in front of someone we hope not to meet. Adagio close her locker and stood in front of us. She scowls and held her head high.
I was tired of the passive aggressive meetings or the awkward way we act when we take a class together. Maybe if I’m nice to her, one day we can become friends. “Hey Adagio, How you been?” Sunset form her best smile and put her hand out for an awkward handshake. Adagio cross her arms and pull back with a sneer.
“Just because we act friendly doesn’t mean we’re friends, she-demon”. The reminder of what I once was sting. I hated that name and Adagio when down on my list of people to befriend. She walks pass us and bump my shoulder on her way out.
“Yeah, good talk…” Sunset awkwardly pull her hand back.
“Ignore her” Pinkie put her arm on my neck and walk me to the cafeteria. We caught sight of the girls and Pinkie pull me all the way. She sat next to a sleepy Applejack. All Aj does now a days is work and when she not working, she takes a minute to sleep, but she deserves it. Rainbow Dash on the other hand had steam coming out of her ears. She would violently stab her meal. I ask Rarity for the gossip.
“Ignore her dear, she just a sore loser” Rare tease. Dash smack the table which seen to scare Fluttershy.
“Ok” Sunset said. Avoiding stepping on any land mine. We mostly talk and gossip, but I would occasionally catch Flutter throwing glimpse of the table next to us. The table next to us had the boys soccer team and Aj brother. Big Mac had joined the team last week and he was happily eating with his friends. Sunset eyes widen and turn to Flutter with a surprise smile. Fluttershy hid her face under her arms.
“Sorry I’m late, girls” Twilight said. She ran up to the table and drop on the chair, sitting next to Dash. “I was practicing my reconstruction” She explain. Taking out an angelic figurine with wings. Making Pinkie Pie was awestruck.
Sunset huff “In my world, magic is more impressive and less restrictive. And for does who can’t do magic naturally, their giving gems with magic store up inside”.
Twi face sour, but she hid the small figure “Is everyone equal in magic?”
“No, in fact we have princesses who can command the light” Sunset gloat. Twilight open her mouth but nothing came out. The conversation dials down around the table and It became awkward, but it didn’t last long when a bark was hear.
Dash was taken aback when she hears the sound coming from Twi backpack. “Did you bring your dog to school, egghead” Dash joke. Twi has made it clear to us all that she doesn’t like that nickname but Dash is the only one who keeps using it. “What if that dog get rail up in class?”
“Ok first, my head is not shape like an egg and second” Twilight put her bag on the table and spike head pop from the side, making all the girls gush. “I bring Spike everywhere I go, he’s my guarding angel. Plus, if he ever gets to loud in class, all I need to do is sing a lullaby and he’ll go to sleep”
While her group of friend play with spike Sunset receive a text. She took out her phone and read the lovely massage before she excuses herself. Shimmer walk up to her next class. Her walk turns into skips when she saw the boy with bright blue hair. He spots me coming forward and open his arms. I did the same before throwing myself on him. Firmly wrapping our arms each other. The heat was killer but I suffer through it just to be close to the person I love the most. I couldn’t help but place my head on his chest “Hey, what wrong?”
“Nothing, can’t you see I’m smiling” Sunset pull back and show a big beautiful smile. “See Flash”
“I can see you’re trying too hard” Flash Sentry answer. He read me like a book. Maybe that’s what happens when two people spent a long time together. Sunset let go of him and lay back on the locker, grabbing his hand in the process.
I don’t really want to talk about it here. I’m just want a moment of peace with him. Too bad the bell ring. Sunset face twisted but cold down when she felt him put his arms around her again. “Sorry I have to go but we’ll talk soon, ok?”. I understand why he’s leaving but I want something in return. Placing myself in front and not moving until I receive what I want. He laughs nervously but lean forward planting a tender kiss.
“Weak, what happened to that tough boy act?” I playfully mock the macho. He laughs as he goes to his next class.
“Yeah, just you wait hon” He glance once more and wink before disappearing into the crowd. I notice him not wearing the leather jacket I loves so much, but to be fair I’m not either. It too damn hot for this. She when into her next class, history.
Our teacher Cheerilee was very happy to teach class. Everyone gathers up in the room and pick their chair. Sunset pick the chair closes to the window. “Ok, continuing where we left off” She grab a book I don’t remember studying. “Can anyone remember, what was the first creation when times were dark and shapeless”. One random student raises his and answer “The light”. Cheerilee was ecstatic. Sunset shook her head and explore the outside world once more. On the sidewalk she saw a little girl walking with her two parents. Link by hand and bond by blood. She ignores the family and look at the blue ocean sky. There was something amiss. A bright piece of rock appears from the sky. It was small and the sun glimmer against it surface. It fell from the sky like a piece of paper and landed in front of the school statue. She was imminently interested in what it was. Too bad I was in class right now.

After the bell ring and school was out. Sunset burst through the door to pick up the mysterious item. She stands right in front of that ‘thing’ but she couldn’t believe her eyes. She stumbles upon a crimson color gem from her world. Equestria magic radiated from the stone just by standing next to it. I stash it in my pocket and made my way to the soccer field. Dash had practice today and we all decide to support her. She was already playing when I arrive. Taking out her anger on her teammates. On the bleachers are Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity and Twi.
“Sup guys” Sunset greeted everyone but avoided eye contact with Twi.
“Howdy” Applejack responded but she looks distracted playing with her hands. And the sandbags on her eyes only worry me further. I want to talk to her but we’re not that close. I’ll bring it up with Rarity. There usually hanging out together so she might know what up.
“You girls have no idea of what I just found”
“A rock?” Applejack said. Why would that be the first thing she says. Well, she not wrong but it was strange.
“Well, it better be a pretty rock” Rarity tease.
Sunset pull out the gem and explain where she found it, and what is does. She believes it was from her world, but the girls where not convince. I firmly grasp the gem on my hand and pick up a stick from the floor.
Magic in her world work differently from this one. It was based on emotions and feelings. If you were calm and relaxed, you could control the light and all its elements, just like Celestia. However, if you were angry with wild emotions, your magic could go chaotic.
I’ll stick to what I know. Been angry and firm. The familiar feeling of Equestria magic travel my body and the dry stick light up like a match. Only Twi eyes pop when she realizes what happen “Did you add some flammable product?”
“Real magic, not this primitive tech you call alchemy”
“Sunset, you can’t create something out of nothing”
“What would you know!” For a split second I lose my cool and everyone was taken aback with my outburst. Their eyes, they would stare at me like a crazy girl. “I’m sorry” Sunset turned on his heels and walked away. I hear them calling me but I said ill text them later. I was too embarrassed to stick around. While heading out I cross Flash walking my way. His eyes where glue to the floor. I block his path and we almost collided. He jumps back when he saw me. “Hey blue eyes” I playfully said.
“Sunny, you scare me” he put his hand on his chest. A bit of an overreaction but I didn’t care. I tilt my head to the side. That was my sign for ‘I’m tired, let’s go home’. Flash gave me a brooding look which worry me in return. “Twilight ask me if I could help move her school project back home”. Sunset huff and roll her eyes. I saw his arms about to wrap me in but I when under them and walk away.
“Whatever, I’ll see you later” I made sure to put venom in my words and storm off. Every footstep slam down. Flash call but they fell on deft ears. I stride home with images of does two together. I mean seriously, it could have been any girl in school but no, it had to be her. I would be fine with Adagio of all people.
Sunset sigh and speed walk hey way home. A bit of a walk but it was the only place I could find. An Isolated three store complex building. Not too far from the city. I’m lucky Flash give me a ride every morning or I wouldn’t be able to get to school on time.
She walks through the complex building and goes up the stairs. It was dusty with a funny smell you get from old places. Her room was on the second floor with a door install and her apartment is spacious. It has a connected kitchen to living room, one bedroom and a bathroom. It was the only apartment that was painted and the furniture was mish mash. Luckily enough, I had electricity and water but I always afraid of waking up one day without it. So, I just don’t think about it. She threw the backpack to the side and lay on the sofa.
Stupid Flash. Like I care if he goes off with Twi. Is not like I care or anything like that. Who care because I don’t. I repeated in my mind.
The phone ring and she swiftly picks up the phone. “Flash!” She became embarrass of how desperate she sounded. ”I mean, what do you want idiot”
“Idiot, ouch” The phone had static but she could hear him just fine. “Listen, I know your angry but I know how to make it up to you”
“No, you know what, I never want to talk to you again” Sunset smack herself with the phone for acting like a witch.
“Uh really? I just brought this large pizza and I don’t know what to do with it” The line when silent for a minute. Flash thought that Sunset had hang-up but there was subtle sound of her breathing.
“Fine, be here in five”

We both got comfortable on the couch. Blankly staring at an old movie on my old square tv, but for a while he’s been eye me up. “If you have something to say, then just say it”
“Ok, what’s up with you and Twi”. Sunset huff and roll her eyes. She gave a nonchalant response but Flash was too smart for that. Later he asks for my ‘cut’. He was referring to my new sleeves leather jacket. Which prompted the question of my ‘old leather jacket’. I hid it. I hate looking at it. It only carries bad memories. Sunset the bully, Sunset the manipulator, Sunset the demon. I would have thrown it out, but it was a good reminder of the person I never want to be. Cold and calculate.
“Adagio call me that name…”Sunset fess up.
Flash tightening his arm around my waist. The overprotective side of him made me feel at ease. “You’re not ‘that’ anymore, and you’ll never be for as long as I'm here”
Flash was simple and kind. Sometimes, that was all I need it. But I have to tell him. I hint at the question. What would he do if I when back to my world. He didn’t response, instead he choose to watch the movie in silence. I sat straight and asks him again. I need a serious response. Taking out the gem and explaining where it from, and how it works. Flash took a deep breath before connecting eyes. He said that if I want to go back home, he’ll understand. His voice was confident but there was pain in his eyes. I told him that I would stay if he asks me to.
He shook his head “I don’t want to see you go, but you probably have folks that miss you”. Silent fell once again. Sunset slowly put her hands on his chest and move her head to his neck. Playfully sinking her teeth’s in his neck. Giving a sign of what I want. If I leave, then I want to make one last good memory. Just one more night under the moonlight.

I can’t believe he just told me to wait here in the middle of night. I been waiting by the school for fifteen minutes now. I’m going to freeze my ass off. Definitely should of taking my leather jacket. But what taking him so long. Did he forget, I wouldn’t be surprised. He loses his car key all the time. And what is it with that car. Sometimes I believe he love that car more than me. He has a dodge chase sixty-nine. The only reason I know the name is because he gushes all over it. I remember once I accidentally scratch the door with my purse and all day was spend with him pouting. I said I was sorry, jeez. For as much as I love him, he can be a handful. Funny, I think he would say the same about me. But he was a good boyfriend.
After our intimate moment, we both fell asleep and I had a strange dream. The dream was about snakes. Crawling all over the Canterlot statue. It didn’t make sense but that how dreams work right?
From the distance a light flash and car beep. He was finally here. The red dodge chaser approaches the school and slowly park. What took him so long. No, better question was, what was he looking for. My question was quickly answer when Pinkie head pop from the car window “Sunny, how dare you!”. Sunset eye widens when all the girls got down from such a small car. Like a circus act, but it wasn’t as funny. All them had stern looks, except for Pinkie. Her sullen expression broke my heart. I love all of them but she was on top of that list.
All then ran towards Sunset and dogpile her. Grab from every different with firm hugs. “I ain't letting go, never!” Aj said. Following up with a soul crunching embrace.
“Too… Tight… Can’t breathe” Sunset said.
“Oh shoot, I’m sorry” letting Sunset drop.
“That too light of a punishment, if you ask me” Rarity said. she was bump by Dash to stay quiet but they have every reason to be angry with me.
“I deserve that. I’m sorry guys, I just thought that I wouldn’t be miss that much” Sunset responded.
Fluttershy step up and with a painful expression. She lightly punches my arm and shook her fist in front of me. “If you ever think that again, I’ll give you a reminder”.
Sunset was leave speechless. This wasn’t the shy girl I meet two years ago. She grown up. Telling me what I need it to hear. Most of them said their piece and goodbye, all but Twilight. She stood back with spike on her arm. I wave goodbye and she did the same. Turning to the statue just to be stop one more time.
“Wait, before you go, I want you to have this” He gave me his long sleeve leather jacket. I want to tell him that cloth don’t teleport with me but it I really appreciated how thoughtful he was. I grab his chin and peck on the lips. The girls cheer much to my embarrassment. I cover my face with the jacket and approach the school statue. I don’t really know what I’m doing but how difficult could it be.
“I think that you should follow the law of equivalent exchange” Twi whisper. She shyly steps back when the group look at her. Twi eyes downcast towards spike.
“Maybe she has a point, I mean she’s an egghead” Dash said.
“Dash, you know I don’t like that name” Twi put her best frown but she was too nice to give someone a stink eye.
“You guys worry too much, I know what I’m doing” kind of. I just don’t want to get into a fight right before I go. She places the gem on the statue and waited. She was confident her plan. “Any minute now”
A glow appear from the cement and she jumps a little when it actually works. The feeling of guilt struck me when I realized I be leaving them behind. She turns back to look at her friends one more time before she sticks her right hand inside. The portal sparks and became unstable. “Ouch” Sunset felt her hand burning.
“Hey, are you all right?” Flash asks. Sunset shook her head and try to pull her arm back but it was stuck. Flash ran up to her and the rest of the girls follow. As a group they pull back but her hand wouldn’t budge. That was until a great white flashing light blinded me and I appear alone on an empty white void. The feeling was strange to explain, but it was like I wasn’t actually here. It was like having an out of body experience. I walk along the pathless world looking for answers until I found myself in front of a double door made of solid gold.
It was a strange sensation. The panic a felt a seconds ago seen to disappear. Actually, all my worries seen to dwindle. This wasn’t as bad as I expected. I was calmly going through the white void until I stumble upon a girl who look like just like me. laying in the middle of a garden. She, or I mean myself was sitting on top of a small hill. Under a fruitful apple tree. She ogles the fruit while her lips before taking a bite off the apple.
My body jolt and I woke up back in school. Gasping for breath. I was on the floor, looking up at the night sky. She glances around to look for her friends but there nowhere in sight. Her muscle felt stiff and her cloths are wet from a puddle of liquid she was laying.
Her right hand felt like it was burning. She inspected her right arm to find the skin with a shade of red. She tries to move her left arm but every time I move my shoulder, I receive an immense pain. Her eyes widen when she realizes that her entire arm was missing. In a fit of panic, she uses her right hand to put herself in a sitting position.
That when she fix her eyes on the lower half of her body or lack thereof. Her two entire legs had disappeared, leaving behind two huge open wounds. Blood slip from the injury and surrounded my body. The blood stain my cloths and the cold wind of the dead of night was the cherry on top. I lost strength in my only arm and I fell back. Her body splash with the crimson water and her head smack the floor. Dozing off from the blood loss, feeling woozy. It was hard to maintain my eyes open and I just let the heavy feeling of going to sleep take over. Shutting my eyesight before drifting off to sleep.
