The princess and the death
Thorax's choice
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThorax was standing in the burning apartment while looking at Twilight and there are two voices in his head. One of them was an icy and cold voice, the icy and cold voice was telling him to abandon her and walk away but there was another voice in his head and this one was kind and friendly and the kind and friendly voice was telling him to go save her because it was the right thing to do.
Thorax was having a hard time making the decision on whether to save her or not.
"She's expendable and has served her use. She'll just slow you down and interfere with the mission and the mission mist take priority over everything else." The icy voice replied.
"The mission will still take top priority, as it always does. She's a living being just like you." The nice and kind voice replied.
"She's slowing down your entire mission. Wherever she goes, the Nemesis will follow, it'll make you run out of your magic and it will make you loose your weapons. It is rentless." Said the icy and cold voice.
"Twilight came up with the idea to use the rooftops, she's smart, just like you when you were a foal Thorax." The firm voice shot back.
"You were willing to let another team die in the sewers. She begged you to save her, you refused. Why are you risking the mission to help this one?" The cold voice replied.
"You never jeopardize the mission." The firm voice stated. "The only difference between princess Sparkle and the other team, is that the other team was mortally wounded by doctor Chaos. There was no way you could save her, even if you bothered making the attempt. Plus you were three fourths the way way up the precinct by that time. You would have had to backtrack all the way to the sewer and she'd be dead by then. It would have interfered with the mission. Princess Twilight is laying right here in front of you with a non-life threatening wound. The other team was a valuable resource, but she was expandable. The only reason you'd go out of your way for Princess Sparkle, is so she can show you across Manehatten City." The kind and friendly voice finished.
"Are you sure that's the only reason to go out of your way?" The cold voice mocked him "Your absolutely sure that the city is the only thing you want the attractive young princess Twilight to show you? How would Nighthawk and your men back in the hive will see you as?" It finished.
Thorax closed his eyes tightly.
"Having feelings during a mission I undertake has ever happened and will never happen. In the unlikely case it were ever to happen, I wouldn't let it interfere in the least. That isn't even the reason I want her help." Thorax replied to the two voices in his head.
"Really? You do well suppressing all emotion, it's true.. But why did you take a passing glance at her look and outfit back in the armory? Or lay your hoof across her head back on the helipad when she looked sad? She certainly does have a nice figure on her, and are you in love with her Thorax?" The cold voice asked him.
"I don't feel anything for her and I'm definitely not in love with her, that's not the issue at hoof." Thorax stated emotionlessly.
"Clutching straws now, are we Thorax? Or lying to yourself? Don't forget the queen and Umbrella clearly wants her dead... And your current presence is helping her survive."
"I'm not breaking any orders from my queen or Umbrella. My mission is to deliver the G-virus to the queen back in the hive to make a new bioweapon. Not to eliminate ponies or princesses." Thorax replied to the cold voice.
"And if the queen put a bounty on her head? They probably have, and she could be worth quite a bit." The cold voice told him.
"I won't go for it. I'm not a recruited convict or a hired thug like all those useless U.B.C.S and I'm certainly not doing this for bits, I'm doing this to deliver the virus."
"Well if you don't kill her, it's bound to make the queen angry."
"Then the queen or Umbrella should have came to me directly and assigned me a mission to do that. Instead they chose to send a B.O.W after her. It didn't say anywhere in my orders that I was going after the princesses, my loyalty to Umbrella and the queen will never be questioned. I'm already the best agent they have. I've done more for them than any other changeling soldiers."
"Somepony in Umbrella had your extraction plan scrambled. Somepony wants you to be late delivering the G-virus sample, or is testing you Thorax." The cold voice said to him.
"I already know exactly who that pony is. I'll beat them by still delivering the virus sample first. I can deal with it later. The mission has changed unexpectedly, and I need to make full use of all the resources available to be." Thorax replied to the cold voice.
"Don't be foolish Thorax. That Nemesis will continue following you while she lives."
"Then I'll kill it. I've survived every seemingly suicidal mission I've ever had. Nothing can kill me. I've already trained against and killed tyrants and royal guards before, back at the military training facility."
"But never against anything like this new prototype the changeling scientists made."
"It'll die like any other type, no matter the upgrades it has. I can handle it, remember I've even defeated Celestia one time."
"Yes you did back in one of your missions but they wouldn't appreciate it being destroyed. It's a valuable bioweapon that they've been working hard on and creating."
"I'll tell them the truth, if they ask. Nothing stands in my way." Thorax simply replied to the cold voice.
"Her skills in magic may be sharp, but they are inferior compared to yours. She is weak and she and her friends hate Umbrella and the changelings."
"She's a princess and she has her pony subjects what would they do without her?" The kind and friendly voice asked quietly.
"She is emotional and dangerous to the mission." The cold voice replied.
"That's part of her own personality. It isn't dangerous if one knows how to handle it, and I do. Her, her friends and Shining armour were able to beat the odds in Canterlot a few months ago. The odds were completely stacked against them. Why should I leave her to burn to death or be eaten alive in this stupid apartment building? That's too undignified." Thorax replied to the cold voice.
"That's hypocritical, Thorax. You told the other team that survival was their own responsibility, and they ended up dying in a filthy sewer." The cold voice reminded him.
"The other team was fully aware of the risks the mission held, just like the Alpha team did. The queen always knows what it's gotten into. We're the best there is." Thorax told the cold voice.
"Thorax?..." Twilight coughed out again, still struggling to open her eyes against the smoke.
She attempted to rise, but let out a pained moan as she brushed her injured hoof against the floor, and stopped.
"Twilight is wounded." Said the cold voice.
"I have enough medical expertise to handle it, my past training and studies covered it. Besides, it doesn't look too serious anyway. The smoke is doing more damage to her." Thorax replied to the cold voice.
"It'll probably take time to fix her up and she'll probably need to rest." The cold voice told him.
"I can contact Nighthawk for more information later, he can give suggestions on an alternative extraction. We can pick up the pace in the morning, since we have three days."
"That's right Thorax." Said the kind and friendly voice.
"Well then time to choose Thorax. Are you gonna save her or are you going to leave her behind to get rid of the Nemesis?" The cold voice asked him.
Thorax stared back down at Twilight again, and in a brief moment, he made up his mind.
